Confusion about OHana

I am thinking of doing OHana for dinner on our first night...What times is Wishes b/c I heard you can see it from the Poly? ALSO, I am totally confused on whether or not this is a buffet or you order off of the menu. I keep hearing things about the meat but I do not eat red meat so now I am re-thinking my decision to eat here! Please let me know! Thanks!

The time of Wishes varies greatly throughout the year. What date are you planning for?

You can see Wishes from the Poly, from inside 'Ohana if you have a table near the window, and from outside in the area of the beach.

It's not a buffet, and you don't order from a menu. It's all you care to eat, served family style. You can see the menu HERE.

go to www.disneyworld.com and click on calander. Go to the date you want to, and click on the number so you can see what time is Wishes on the night. I personally didn't like watching Wishes from the Poly. It's not as good as being in MK.
Ohana's is served family style meaning you eat all you want, but you don't have to get up. They will keep bringing more and more to your table of anything on their menu until you say stop. We loved this restaurant.

If you don't eat red meat, you could still have skewers of shrimp & chicken. Basically the food is skewers of marinated, grilled sorts of meat: pork, beef and the aforementioned. It's O.K., but just skewered meat w/ various dipping sauces: an atkin's dieters dream. Our family loved watching fireworks afterwards from the beach on a hammock (but it's not a substitute from being in MK).

the no longer have shrimp on the skewers.. its sausage now:sad2:

It's actually not chicken, it's turkey. We liked it here, but I wasn't crazy about the meats either. However, the chicken wings that were served as an appetizer were very yum! I filled up on those!

But could I say NO BEEF/PORK/SAUSAGE and just eat more chicken? Or do they limit you?

Yes, you can just tell them what meats you want and they won't limit you.

The meats they have are sirloin steak, pork loin, turkey, and pork sausage. Those are all on skewers.

They also serve shrimp and chicken wings as a "starter" and you can request more of those, too.

I read on another post about people complaining about O'Hana's menu changing. Besides the sausage, what other changes were made?:confused3

We can't complain about Ohanas new menu b/c we ate there for the first time last trip and never knew it had changed! We watched Wishes from our table..it was really cool b/c they pipe in the music. We are starting this as a first night tradition from now on. If you don't eat the meat you can easily fill up on the other food, as the PPs said. My favorite is the bread pudding for dessert and the chips/dip. I love red meat myself but actually don't end up eating too much of the skewered items b/c I am full by the time they get there! I would definetly say to try it at least once! :goodvibes

I didn't care for most of the meats, but that's okay, I found enough that I did enjoy to fill up with no problem, LOL. We are planning to return next trip for certain. The entertainment was fun and kept DD4 occupied until she fell asleep. Service was good. They even removed DD's charge from the bill because she fell asleep, even though she'd already eaten her fill of salad and wings. Plus, our server boxed up some steak to go for her just in case she woke up because she was talking about eating steak before she conked out. I don't normally like bread pudding, would never order it, but oh my, the bread pudding at 'Ohana was absolutely delicious! I'd go back just for wings and bread pudding, LOL.

salad - good
shrimp - I don't eat, but my SIL ate two plates full
veggies - too much onion and pepper, not enough 'real' veggies
wings - OMG - too delicious for words!
chips and dips - good
cheesy potatoes - yummy

sausage - not much flavor
steak - tough
pork - dry
turkey - very good

bread pudding - another OMG - delicious!

I do not eat red meat either, but the turkey on skewers is quite good. I loved the salad, shrimp, and potatoes...not to mention dessert. You can do fine here without eating red meat.

do they give you the pineapple bread there or not?

They give you the pineapple bread for breakfast. They didnt have it at dinner last time i went 9/06. I think they use the pineapple bread or variation for the dessert at dinner which is a bread pudding w/ bananas foster sauce and vanilla ice cream. ;)

I've always found all the meats to be dry and chewy. I avoid them! I just ask the server to keep bringing me shrimp and that is all that I eat besides the wings, sides, and desserts. They have no problem with bringing me shrimp.
