Fried Shrimp at Coral Reef ?

On the Coral Reef menu - it has Caesar Salad - Add fried Bay scallops and also Shrimp Cocktail.

Do you think the chef would mind taking the 3 or 4 shrimp from the Shrimp Cocktail - fry them like the Bay scallops and serve them with baked potato and green beans (from the Prime Rib entree) ? I would be willing to pay $18 for it.

Anyone totally modify a menu item ?

I think your answer will probably be at the complete discretion of the chef the day you go. Most chef's are very accomodating but I can see how a very overwhelmed kitchen may say no at peak times.

I have food allergies and have received some modified menu items but I highly doubt you could get fried shrimp at Coral Reef. Of all the restaurants we ate in they were the least able to modify but they were very easy on substituting side items. The fried bay scallops they offer are probably prebreaded so they wouldn't even necesarily have anything to bread the shrimp with plus the shrimp cocktail shrimp are probably precooked and chilled as well. From talking to all the chefs about allergies we are finding each visit that more and more items are predone. They do stock things like plain chicken and fish to make simple things for food allergy people but it's harder to get things made up special beyond just plain in terms of special orders.

You could try, but I wouldn't count on it. More than likely the shrimp are steamed and iced down during the prep for lunch. Also, as someone else said the scallops could also be breaded during the prep phase

Actually their shrimp cocktail is shrimp and noodles in a soy sauce. It's OK, but I'll not order it again. It's not the typical shrimp cocktail like they use to sell--this is a newer version.

While it wasn't for food allergy purposes, our server was unwilling to subsitute a baked potato for the scalloped potato that normally comes with the steak. They would, however, allow DH to get french fries in place. The server insisted it was because they only make so many baked potatoes a day to go along with the prime rib.

Okay, so here comes an answer, but probably one you will not like. My husband and I went to Coral Reef once for lunch. I am a BIG fried shrimp lover and asked for this request. What they said they could do for me was give me some small fried shrimp and fries. I thought, sure, that would be great. After all, it would still be fried shrimp right. It was the WORST fried shrimp I have ever eaten in my life. Literally the shrimp at LJS would be considered better.

If you are looking for some great seafood, we have always loved the Fulton's Crab House, but they do not take the DDP. If you are really looking towards eating at Coral Reef, do not request fried shrimp. I am going back there this may because of the extra things they do for birthdays, but will be sticking with the Prime Rib or other steak they offer.

Do you like fish? I can not eat regular fish, but those might be good dishes.

Our server mentioned this also when we were there. He said that they only make enough potatos for the prime rib dinners for that night. And when they are out they are out. But fortunately, he was able to accomodate my mother and get her the bake potato even thought she didn't get the prime rib. Lucky for her, someone didn't want the potato that came with the prime rib, so she was able to get it.

Having worked in restaurants, I can definitely see them only having enough baked potatoes to match up with the prime rib. The only menu item on both the lunch and dinner menu that has a baked potato available is the prime rib and there is nothing on either menu where they could use the leftover bakers. And it is not just simply popping one in the oven as they take up an hour to bake (although I guess they could cheat and micro it)

It is all about food cost and reaching certain percentages, if they have to throw out 10 potatoes at the end of the night that increases their food costs and could potently move them from the 30% to 31% point which could be unacceptable to the higher ups. Disney is not alone in this, all of the major chains (including high-end) do this type of analysis.

Not only is it a no meat day (abstinence), it's a day of fasting. Only two small meals permitted. Might be a good day to forget about using TS.

Interesting, if it makes you feel better the baked potato was awful but all the rest of our food there was great.
