Does anyone know if we can fed-ex things home from the ship at port??? :scratchin

I will be on one of the Med cruise and my flight from Barcelona to Paris limits me to 50 kg and 1 carry-on each. I was hoping to Fed Ex some souvenirs home after the cruise. If DCL won't allow it, do you think the airport will have a place to do so? I think I'm going to stop at my local Fed Ex department and ask for some boxes!

Not sure about Barcelona, but at Port Canaveral you CAN'T ship anything home from the ship/terminal....we have shipped stuff home from the Post Office across from the Radisson, but I do not understand why DCL/FedEx could not set up a shipping desk at the port....somewhere you could ship your packages home. With airline restrictions tighter than ever and airlines always trying to limit what you can carry onboard your flight, and weight limits on checked luggage....I think this would be a great idea....I also think people would buy more stuff onboard/in ports if there was a shipping desk at the port.

I have been saying this for years but I guess DCL does not agree!!!

I suggest going to the airport's website and seeing if any shipping is available....airport website usually have a ton of info...not sure if shipping would be listed but it might!

Sending items Fed Ex or UPS to/from overseas is extremely expensive. You will probably want underpack your clothes and do laundry on the ship. You might want to consider mailing packages home from each port to minimize costs and the possibility of having to pay duty on a large package that arrives home.
Your 50kg baggage limit is basically 2 50 pound suitcases per person since 1 kg=2.2 pounds.

There are two factors at work here. First, all packages must go through Customs and are subject to search. Therefore, there is no where inside the luggage area that a shipping desk could be established. Second, due to the "turn" times on the ships and getting persons out of the terminal as quickly as possible, this would present a logistical nightmare if you had people waiting to ship items from outside the terminal. So many people use pre-arranged transportation (read DCL buses and local shuttles) that they would not be able to operate on a consistent schedule due to people waiting in line to ship items home.

As for the OP, I would visit the local FedEx or UPS location and find out about shipping rates and locations in Barcelona. But, as another poster said, be prepared for "sticker shock" with the rates!

Very good points that I had not thought of.....still wish it could happen though!!

Thanks everyone for your answers. I have looked into the cost at the Fed Ex site and I do realize it is expensive. I am staying in Europe for 3 weeks, so I'm not sure 2 suitcases would be enough. The flight from Toronto to London isn't a problem, however the flight from Barcelona to Paris is an issue. They charge 12 Euros for each kg over the limit. That is why I was considering shipping. I guess I should count on doing laundry more than once. Maybe I'll leave the Pirate outfits at home this trip!
