Our dog died last night. He has been sick with cancer. We had a party last night for my Dad's 60th b-day and I gave my dog a meatball. He ate it and then died like 30 seconds later. I feel like it is my fault because his throat was swollen from the cancer. I shouldn't have given him that meatball. He just liked meatballs. My only thing is I know he isn't suffering anymore. He was having trouble breathing this week. It is just sad.

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: I'm so sorry for you loss!! Our furbabies are so important to us, aren't they! I lost my cat to renal failure several years ago, and it was so hard!

You didn't do anything wrong!!!! I would have given him the meatball also! Just think if you hadn't given him the treat, then he died.. you would have felt guilty for NOT giving it to him.

What a beautiful dog. Tammy I am so sorry to hear about this. As you know everyone of us (well nearly all) are dog lovers. I hope that time will heal this feeling of loss in your life and that you realize that it was not your fault. The last thing you need to do is feel like that. He is in a better place, or atleast I feel like all dogs DO go to Heaven...

Oh Tammy, I am so so so sorry! I cannot imagine the pain you're going through  At least you're baby isn't suffering anymore and is in a better place. I am so sorry you have to go through this :grouphug:

RAINBOW BRIDGE (Author unknown)

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body begins quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Tammy,

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it must be. My cat is so important to me and just the thought of something happening to her makes me upset. He was a beautiful dog.

Awww, my heart goes out to you:grouphug: I am so sorry for your loss. Don't blame yourself, as you said, he had trouble breathing last week, it was obviously his time. Try and remember all the good times you shared together. I know I would be a wreck if I lost my dog and I have lost dogs in the past so I know what you're going through. His suffering has come to an end, feel free to message me at any time. Wishing you all the best during this difficult time:flower3:

awww...I'm so sorry to hear that and im sorry for your loss. He is in a place where he is no longer suffering. You can tell he was a very content dog with a very happy home just from the picture. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk.

This is seriously what makes it hard for me to commit. I love my dogs so much that I often am afraid to get too close to them in fear of losing them- seriously I could NOT imagine. I hope im not this way with a child of my own. Im a nut-case sometimes.... Tammy you are certainly in my thoughts..

..see this is what Rainbow Bridge does to me Jen..:sad1:

Oh My Goodness.. I am so sorry to hear about your doggy. He is in a better place now watching over you as your  angel:angel: ... My he R.I.P.

you have my sympathies...just know that it wasn't your fault and that he is in a better place now to watch over you. :grouphug:

Maggie, I am the same way. DF always says we better have a kid by the time Nati passes b/c he's afraid I may do something to myself. Of course he is exaggerating, but honestly my dog is my child with fur.

Tammy, again I am so so sorry. I've said a prayer for you, your DH, and your doggie

Thank you everyone. You all made me feel better. I knew you guys would be there for me. Thank you so much.

Atleast he died doing what he loved the most...eating human food.

Tammy I am so sorry and I started to cry when I read your furbaby passed away. I would of also given him the meatball. I hope time helps you with your pain. The loss of a pet is just as a horrible as the loss of a child to us animal lovers.

I am so sorry for your loss. My dog passed away about 2 years ago at the age of 16 and I got her when I was 5, so it was like losing a sister.
You just need to think that it was his time and at least he is not in any pain anymore. Also, don't feel guilty, just be happy that he got one last treat from you and that he knew you loved him.
It'll get easier, just don't let anyone get away with the "it's just a dog, why are you so upset?" comment. Only one person said that to me after Sandy died and they got an ear-full!
My thoughts are with you.

Dear Tammy,

I am so very sorry for your loss. Please don't blame yourself, you were just giving your dog something you thought he would enjoy. I would have done the same for our dog. Our Yorkie, Spirit, means everything to me as we do not have children. Just cherish all the beautiful memories and know he is in a better place watching over you!!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you!!

Lisa and Ben

Tammy, I am so so sorry to hear this! You are in our thoughts as you go through this hard time. You should not feel guilty at all, as you made your doggies last moment an enjoyable one! As Maggie said, all dogs go to heaven, which I'm sure is a happy and healthy place for them all! We're always here for you!!! :grouphug:

Awwwww....I'm so sorry about your dog! But, please don't feel bad...you have to understand that to a dog, eating something like a meatball is something that they look forward to. And please know that dogs truly live in the moment, without understanding or thinking of being ill. I hope you feel comfort in knowing that his last moments were filled with happiness and joy at getting that treat. I wish that my dog's final moments were filled that kind of happiness...instead it was filled with the stress of having strangers around, and sensing our panic and worry.
