Hey ya'll!

Ok, so I posted a thread here a few weeks ago talking about making my decision to have my disney wedding. Anyways, I can't find that thread right now, and I am stressing out! One second, everyone I talk to is all for the Disney wedding, and now, I am getting all kinds of negative feedback. Not negative like they are telling me that I can't have it, but negative like, "Do you really think you can afford that?"

Yes! It is possible...(or so the wishbook tells me so)... Either way, it is my dream and (GOD BLESS!) it want it to be possible! We have approx a $15,000 budget and about a 115 person guest list. As far as I have heard, that is not a far off dream! We have our meeting on Feb 20 with Joe, just to talk about costs and possiblities, but I need to talk to someone face to face to make my final decision. My hopes just seem to be dwindling due to the negativity that is surrounding me, and it is really frustrating me.

I know a lot of ya'll have done or are doing the disney wedding, so if you can spare, could you please share some positive energy with me. I just need a little bit right now.

:),:(, :/,

Hi Jenny

Try not to stress. I went through that before I was engaged and I wanted to have my wedding in Disney... EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE always told me 'its too expensive you should use that money for a house..' I would get so mad:mad: .... But once I got engaged my DF and I sat down and discussed budget with my parents. Thankfully my parents are paying for the wedding. But dont let others get you down. I would try not to let them get me down and look I am getting married in Disney. I bet you will have it there too.. Dont let others ruin what you want....Good Luck to you...:surfweb:

Jenny,
Don't let other people spoil your dream....It is very possible for you to have your dream Disney wedding within a budget. You can follow a lot of the advice on the DISboard. You can have it at several locations not just WP and still make it lovely. Do not let anyone question your dreams! This is your special day and if people are going to try to rain on it just ignore them.

Let them say whatever they want you and your DF are all that matters! This is your day so make it whatever and WHERE EVER you want it! If others don't like it TOO BAD for them. Sorry this may sound mean but when people are negative it just drives me crazy. I am sending you some pixie dust....It will all work out for you! Remember you have all of us here to support you! pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Weddings cost money. I think most people just assume since it's Diseny it's expensive. What they don't know is that the cost includes everything from rehearsal dinner, to the ceremony, or even 6 Welsh ponies!

Don't forget you are planning your wedding and not theres.

All the best dear.

I know how you feel - I'm going through this right now. I have had quite a few people try to talk me out of it (including my in-laws to be). All you need to focus on right now is you & your future husband and what the two of you want. If a Disney wedding is what you want - don't let anybody else talk you down. The possiblities seem (and I'm sure are) endless at Disney and you can make it happen on your budget. I don't have that big of a budget either but I'm going to make it happen whatever way possible because it's what we want. Stay strong and make sure you do what you want because it's your wedding!

Please try not to let anyone get you down. My DF and I have met with our fair share of negativity but my DF always reminds me that this is our dream and unless they want to pay for it then they don't get a say in it. It's inevitable that you will have a day every now and then when you think everyone is right and you're crazy for wanting a Disney wedding. Sometimes others opinions have a way of getting to you when you're having a bad day. I wish the best for you and your DF and hope that you find support enough support from the girls here on the Dis that you can keep all that negativity out of your head! :goodvibes

Hang in there and remeber not matter what they think in the end it your life and you have to be happy when you go to sleep at night;) I think you can do a Disney wedding on your budget for that many people you just have to figure out what is imporatant to you and your dh2b and what is not;)

Good luck and:wizard:

When we said we wanted a disney wedding we were laughed at! Everyone thought it was a joke which really upset me as none of them has every been to disney and they just think its rides and Disney is not all about rides. My DF sister got married here in the uk last august and it cost them £30000 which is about $60000 which is alot of money so we thought disney was the best way to go as its SO much cheaper than getting married here.

We are still having problems with our friends as they do not really want to go to disney they would rather us get married in the caribbean somewhere so they can all have a beach holiday!

So I understand what you are going through, I think every bride has some sort of problem with friends and family and what we thought is that you can please everyone and afterall its our day!

We too are finding out fair share of naysayers (including 2 people in our wedding party and DF's parents!). We had read about several situations such as the above posts, and knew that SOMEONE was going to be negative about it when we announced our plans.....but even though we knew ahead of time that it would probably happen to us as well and hearing from all the great folks here how generally it all worked out in the end...still we were shocked and saddened when it happened to us too.

The only advice I can give is to make sure you are considerate of your guests pockets and feelings. Definitely don't let the negative people get you down or cancel your dream! We've made sure to tell all our guests with plenty of time for them to plan and save, planned activities and accomodations that are light on our guests pockets, made sure not to let the naysayers see us upset, and accepted those who have naysayed or declined our invitation with grace.

You know it's something that most of us on here could probably all relate to.
There will always be one or more persons wondering why the hell you want a Disney wedding.
I had it myself. My Husband and I talked it over a few times, before it was set in stone. I booked it and told everyone they were invited. Take it or leave it, it was MY dream, and that dream was going to be fulfilled whether they were with us or not.
STICK WITH IT.
I was talking to my Brother in law over Christmas and he tells me what a fantastic time everyone had, and never in his wildest dream could ever imagine how fantastic it was.
Everybody enjoyed it so much.
It was a magical experience like no other ordinary traditional style wedding, and that will stay in their hearts & minds forever.
Good luck & stay strong.

Ya'll are really amazing. It's good to know that just about every other DB is going through the same thing. It's horrible but I guess it's just something we can't get around.

The kicker in the price is really the reception, eh? I mean, sheesh! 100 a head?:ccat:

:tinker: Thanks for the pixie dust and the hope! :grouphug:

Isnt it sad that you have such a wonderfull, exciting event and all anyone wants to do is to tear you down !!!

It seems thats how the world is today

Well I just have to tell you that you dont have to take it!

OT: I am sick and tired of people always telling me "no" or " you cant do that", but every time I "DO" do it, I just love shoving it right back athem, but nicely...Kill em w/kindness

I would just plan your wonderful DFTW and ignore all the negativity.

Even if you said you only had $5000...I would be telling you that if you really wanted it, youd find a way .

Its funny how everyone becomes your financial consultant all of a sudden

Anyway.....surrond yourself with the positives & excuse the negatives...besides, unless theyre paying, why do the even need to know....how rude that they even ask!!!

FYI: I still have people if Mickey married us....& you know what....I just smile & say yeah!!! just to mess with them:rotfl2:

you can always come here for posistive energy:wizard:

I'm not engaged yet but DB and I already decided we are having a Disney Wedding, his idea actually!   I told my mom and step dad and they said it was a really cool idea! (Probably because they live in Florida and I am in New Jersey) When I told her it was $100 a person she kinda hit the roof BUT if I were to have a wedding here in NJ......it would be at one of the hotels because all the reception "halls" are not real close to hotels and she didn't like that. Hotels run $125 a head easily, so technically....Disney is cheaper!

My mom's whole family lives in Florida, my dad's here in NJ. My dad passed away when I was 19 and to be honest, I am not at all close to my uncles on his side. They don't call me and I don't call them. My brother, his wife and my nephew are my family here and they wouldn't pass up a reason to go to Disney! I figure it like this.......if they really want to be at my wedding then it shouldn't matter where it is!!

Hang in there....have the wedding you want, where you want it! Reading these boards, I've realized that more people will come than you think.

We're not even warning my DMIL. We got married at the courthouse Aug '06, but having our wedding in feb next year. She doesn't know and we will be sending her an invite through the mail, even though we see her all the time. She thinks we should use the money on a downpayment. Well I would rather wait 1 to 2 years for a house than spend my life in regret, and trust me I would regret it. I've been wanting a DFTW since they added the info to the monorail!!! And I'mm 22, so that's most of my life as I can remember. This is your dream, have fun and don't stop for anyone. What's the worst thing you have an intimate size party? Trust me not many people will refuse a DFTW because it's not everyday someone get invited to a DFTW. Have fun!

I don't think I need to repeat everyone's sentiments on this thread--so the only thing I will say is "have fun and savour these moments in planning your DFTW". If you do that, your excitement and positively will be contagious.

We've looked past the negativety and are really shaking everyone up to the point where they now realize this is likely their only opportunity to be invited to WDW and a wedding (gotta admit - too cool:yay: )

Best of luck to you & your DF:flower3:

I'm no expert on weddings. I got married 24 years ago. I am on these boards because I am trying to do a VR. IMO have the wedding you want. Somehow we always get the things we "need" a house, a car, etc. If you want a house bad enough you'll save and get it. You could postpone your wedding until you can afford both, but why? There will always be something more pressing in others minds than a wedding. Go for it. Have the wedding of your dreams.

Try to enjoy the planning. Before you know it it will be a memory and you'll be saving for a house to prove everyone wrong. ;) - you can have both!

Thank you so much. You are so right. :) I really think that I'm going to go for the DW, but there are just sooo many NAY SAYERS! Thanks for the support. I love these boards!
