If you could choose between the two which would you pick....Having characters at the reception or having professional videography and why?

Im probably one of the few people here that didn't have video and don't regret it so...I say go for the characters. They are just so great for you and especially your guests. However, if you think that you will watch your wedding over and over again, then go for the videographer!! We are the type of people that would never watch the video so we spent our extra money on extra accessories! I also have an amazing image and memory of my wedding and I was worried that I would get another view or another image in my head if we got a video (maybe I would notice something that wasn't right). Go with the one that you feel would be most beneficial :thumbsup2

I would do characters too

You can have family/friends do video/photos & some people arent half bad at it

Having mickey & minnie is awesome

I couldnt even imagine waht to tell you here.

My parents thought that for the money- they could just buy a brand new hi-tech camera and keep it, and video tape it from the tripod (and Randy moved it around for them at approprate parts)...

We also had the characters.

Honestly, its probobly going to come down to a personal choice.
Maybe both:confused3 ... use someone in the families videocamera and tri-pod... and videotape there ceremony... and also get the characters:confused3 . As for choosing-- im no help!!

GL!:thumbsup2

i agree and say go for the characters. while i had both i agree that maybe you can get a family member to record the events for you. the characters are a great addition.

If you can, try to have both. Consider purchasing an inexpensive video package that covers the ceremony and the beginning portion of your reception. If such a package doesn't exist on paper, see if you can negotiate one. Some videographers might be willing to work with you. It certainly never hurts to ask.

If you can't afford both, then I would forget the characters and hire the videographer. You can always get photos taken with the characters for free in any theme park or character buffet restaurant.

I am thankful that I hired a videographer for my event. He caught a lot of moments that I didn't see. And they were priceless moments. For example, one of my guests imitated a Munchkin in the Land of Oz while we were having dessert. This particular guest wasn't sitting at my table and thus I never would have seen his "acting bit" had it not been for the videographer. It will make excellent blackmail material one day. ;)

Good luck with your decision. I've got my fingers crossed that you'll be able to swing both.

Thanks for all the tips..its such a hard desicion to make...we have a videocamera that records dvds so it just a matter of a professional tape vs. an amateur.?

I would do the video, but that is just me. I feel the video will last forever but the characters are only a 1/2hr. Go on Stans website and check out his videos they r priceless. I cry at every one of them!!! The video is something you will cherish 15yrs from now when u see ppl on there that might not be around 15yrs from now, and something to show your children. ;) Good luck with whatever you decide both will be great additions to your wedding day!!!!:wizard:

I would go for the video! Mostly because it will last forever - my day went by so quickly and i cant wait to sit down with my new hubbie and watch it again! Even in our sneak peek there are moments i didnt see!

I had this exact decision to make:sad2: I ending up choosing the video, like laura says your day will go by so fast and there are loads of things you will miss, I can't wait to sit down and watch it all again. The main reason I am getting the video though is there are loads of relitves that won't be coming and I want them to feel like they were there and watching a good video certainly helps them.
I really, really wanted the characters but my fiance said I could see them around the park and we've organised to do Chef Mickeys on the day before my mum flies home.
If I had the money I would have done both, but it came down to budget and Mickey and Minnie was gonna cost more than having Videography, the characters are for 30min but the Dvd is forever.

You could do both if you're prepared to compromise a little. We are having a low price video package (only need the ceremony and the cake cutting, and not too much editing or fancy titles) then we're going to 1900 Park Fare at GF for dinner in our wedding outfits (you could also go to Chef Mickeys) and have some half decent photo's with the characters.
Good luck on choosing.

We are doing video. There are only going to be three of us there, and we are planning a character meal after the wedding. This is such an important milestone in our lives, I want it recorded.

I agree 100% We didn't want video and I don't regret it at all! My wedding day was completely perfect and I don't need a video to remind me, or possibly alter my fantastic memories. It did go by fast but I knew we would never sit down and watch a video of it. We could have gotten an amateur video for free as my sister wanted to video it for us (we had only 8 guests) but we told her no. Of course, we didn't have the characters either (we probably had one of the most non "Disney" Disney weddings :goodvibes ) . . . but since you're asking for opinions between the two, I'd say get the characters.

I would also pick having characters at the reception. Videography is nice-to-have option.:goodvibes

Such a hard choice - I want both! I agree with other people, there are some WONDERFUL videos that you can watch for the rest of your life, but then having the characters there on your special day.... I'm really not sure which one I could cut.......!

Stan has a nice option for intimate brides. (Stvsweddings.com) He will do the raw footage only no edit. That way you can have it professionally edited when you wanted it. Maybe that will help you have both at your wedding.

I'd have to say I'd definitely take the characters. We opted for Mickey & Minnie, and having a guest record our ceremony (rather than pay for a professional videographer). While it was nice to have the ceremony recorded, the truth is when we went back and watched it, we found it a little annoying to overhear certain comments and to watch us all try to line up for pictures. Our memories of the ceremony were worth more than the video.

The characters, on the other hand, were worth every penny. EVERYONE, and I mean everyone loved them! Even people who would normally scoff at them and didn't care at all about Disney wanted a picture. The characters really made the wedding what one of our guests referred to as "a once-in-a-lifetime occasion." Yes, you can see the characters in the parks and at meals, but then you only get 30 seconds and there's usually some little kid interfering. Pictures with the characters, and of your guests enjoying them, last just as long as a DVD.

I've seen some of Stan's videos now (thanks to JonetteA's push in the right direction!) and yes, they are amazing! I've never "oooh"ed and "ahhhh"ed at a video before seeing his! :)

We are having a similar debate so I'm so glad you asked this. As it stands right now we have chosen the characters. I REALLY felt so strongly about having video, but I think the cheapest package was around $2000 and the cost for 2 characters is half that price. Plus, I would be 'ok' with taking our video camera and having family members take video and just have some raw footage of the day. We can't have anyone dress up like Mickey and Minnie, so that made our decision because it's 'sort of' like we can still have both!! :thumbsup2

Where did you find videography that was cheaper than the characters!?!?!? I wanna know :) :) :)
