So....we're talking at work about Elementary School memories. I am by far the oldest one here....I was in Elementary school in the 70s. And I was like...I love the smell of mimeograph copies and how they were kind of warm and the ink was purpleish......

I got blank stares all around!!!!

Jenny:)

I volunteered in schools in the 70s and I loved the smell too......hated the finger stains though......I asked hubby to mimeograph a few copies of my grocery list and the grandkids laughed at me.....

Ah yes, I remember those.

The teacher would come in with a fresh stack of copies and when she passed them out, the first thing we'd all do is press them to our faces and inhale. :rotfl:

I remember those and was in grade school in the 70's. Only we called them dittos.

February and winter are months that bring back these memories for some reason. I still recall some Valentine's Day and Lincoln's Birthday (talk about being old when you remember we had two days off for president's birthdays) mimeograph worksheets we did in 2nd grade.

I still call the worksheets that my son comes home with dittos. At first he looked at me like I was nuts, but then he seemed to decide that I was just old:laughing:

When I was little (early to mid-60s) my dad was the pastor of a very small Baptist church. He'd bring us up to the church with him on Saturdays. He would mimeograph the church bulletins and we would fold them!

Let me pull up my rocker and join you! 60's/70's student here...Remember smelling them before each and every test!:hippie:

When I volunteered at my kids' elementary school (only about 10 years ago), one of my duties was to run copies. Most of them were on a regular modern copy machine, but guess what??? They still had an old mimeo machine which I got to run! How fun was that??? (I think I got a little buzzed a couple of times, sniffing the ink).

I loved the smell too ! I used to work in the office as a child and still remember the turning wheel that made the mimeograph !!!

How about this...I used to work at The Ohio Turnpike and and microfilmed info...how 007 is that !!!:rotfl:

We called them dittos too. I also liked the smell, but not the smudges.

LOVED that smell! And the pages always felt so fresh - almost wet - in your hands. Made taking tests a little more enjoyable.

I was just thinking the other day about the huge, iron-lung looking opaque projector that the teacher would wheel into the classroom every now and then. And, then those days when she'd haul in that little record player in a tweed suitcase thing - you knew class was looking up that day.

But then there were days when she brought out the filmstrip machine. Those things were so BORING. Unless you were picked to be the one to advance the slides. Then you felt special. ;)

In the early grades, I remember that fresh new box of Jumbo Crayons we would get all to ourselves. maybe they still do that, but that was a cherished possession.

Boy, that brings back memories :goodvibes I remember helping out in the office in high school and having to run copies off the mimeograph machine and yes I LOVED the smell!
