Purchasing points at B*V

Hi! I already own 250 points at SSR and have made rezzies for two vacations this year (March and October) . My use year begins Oct. 1.

My question concerns purchasing just 75 points from DVC at BCV or BWV. I would use these points for my October (read: International Food and Wine Festival) vacations. Am I restricted by the 150 point minimum? Would I have a long wait to get a deal from Disney? I would rather go thru Disney than the resale market. Why? I dunno, but it seems like a good idea. Is it?:confused3

Thanks for any advice.:cool1:

Since you already own DVC, you may add on through Disney at any resort. The minimum number of points for an add on is 25 (50 if you want Disney financing). I have no idea how long you might have to wait for points through Disney - depends on how many points they have "in stock" for an October use year. Disney will only sell you the same use year you already have (unless you insist on something different and buy at least 150 points).

If you want to stay at one of the EPCOT resorts during Food & Wine, it is a good idea to own there. I assume you can take advantage of the home resort booking window - if you can't plan more than 7 months ahead, then it doesn't help to own there.

I'm puzzled when you talk about taking advantage of the home resort booking window. If I have 75 points at Beach Club Villas or the Boardwalk Villas won't I be able to reserve 11 months ahead? Or do I need at least 150 points to be able to do that?:confused3

If I can't reserve 11 months ahead, then I understand your last few words ". . .then it doesn't help to own there.":sad1:

You have the 11 month advantage using the number of points at resorts you own at.
So if you added on 75 points at BCV you could reserve a reservation at 11 months using those points. Points from other home resorts can't be combined for 11 month reservations.

yes but only the points that are at that resort.

You can book those 75 BC*WV points at the 11 month window but you can't use your 150 SSR points to book at BC*WV at the 11 month window.

I think what Carol was saying is...if you can not personally plan our vacation 11 months in advance, the BWC/BCV points would not have an advantage to you over owning at any other resort.

Yes, the 75 points would have the 11 month booking window at the resort where you own them, you could not, however, use any of your SSR points at BWV/BCV during that window. If you can plan that far out, go for it!!!

Yep! That's what I meant.

If you can't plan more than 7 months in advance, it doesn't help to buy at BCV or BWV. If you can only plan 7 months or less in advance, you might as well buy SSR and get lower dues and a longer contract. At 7 months, a point is a point is a point!

75 points at BWV can get you 6 nights in a SV studio every October, but only if you can call early enough to snag a SV studio. Those are hard to come by if you don't call early in the home resort booking window.

You can book those 75 BC*WV points at the 11 month window but you can't use your 150 SSR points to book at BC*WV at the 11 month window.

Rest assured that I am going to use the 75 points for the October vacation so I can be within walking/boating distance of the IF&WF.:yay: I will not use my SSR points. They will be for my March (or other month's) vacation and for family gatherings when my grandsons are old enough to realize what's going on---say in 3-4 years. One is 18 months old and they other will be arriving in a few weeks.

Another question: Would I have a long wait to get a deal from DVC? Does anyone have experience in this regard?

Thanks for your help and advice.:cool1:

Given there are waiting lists to purchase points at BCV and BWV, Disney has no reason to offer a deal on points at those resorts. I've been a member less than two years. During that time the only "deal" I've seen from Disney on the "sold out" resorts was a $5/point discount on HHI and VB a while back. The price for BCV, BWV and VWL has only gone in one direction during that time: up, $3/point every 9 months since I joined these boards!

The next price increase at SSR is coming in early March. The last time this happened, the prices at BWV, BCV and VWL went up the same amount (immediately for nonmembers, a few months later for members).

And yes it does make sense to purchase a 75-point add-on directly from Disney. Small contracts command a premium price on the resale market and you have to pay closing costs on top of that. Disney does not charge closing costs to members when they add on more points.

Good luck!

Its very possible that points are available for an October use year right now for BWV. Beach Club Villas you'd be more likely to wait for. You won't know until you call.
