Best time to visit in May or Dec?

I heard this December was crazy packed... I went a couple years back (more like 7) and December was great.. My cousin went just this past December.. first week and said it was really crowded..

According to Disney they dont have down times now.. WOW>>>>

Well, we were there for 10 days early December, and we'll be going for 5 the first week of May too. I'll let you know later.

Just don't ever go the week between christmas and newyears. We just got back a week ago and will never go again at that time. The first couple of weeks of december are great. May is not bad either. We plan on going Memorial day weekend for about 5 days. My family and I have gone several times at this time of year and crowds are not bad. Its just HOT.

I went in May last year for a week, and twice in May this year. My previous three trips had been first week in December. May is a PERFECT time to go. Great weather, low humidity, low crowds. December was EMPTY the first few years I went, but gradually has increased. Last time we were there in Dec was 2004 and it seemed pretty crowded in the walkways at the parks, but short lines for the rides. The decorations are beautiful. For me it's a toss-up, but I think May will win out because December is always so busy at home.

In our opinion, you can't wrong with either time. Mid May and the first two weeks of December are our favorite times to travel to WDW. Lighter crowds. May is nice because the weather is warm (upper 80s, 90s), but not as hot as Summer. December is great due to all of the decorating.

My vote is for May if you have not visited many times. If you are a veteran, then go for the decorations!!!

I have been in May and December and agree you can't go wrong with either.
We just went the second week of December and LOVED it. The decorations are fantastic. The weather for us was always high 70's and even 80 one day. But I heard others say we had just missed some really cold temps (upper 30's at night). So if you don't want to chance cooler weather you might opt for May.
And while May means no Christmas decorations we always love the garden festival.
But, one last thought--- The crowds are a little heavier in May than the first two weeks of December.
Hmmmmm.... the pro/con list just keeps getting longer.
You will love it regardless.

My two favorite times of the year to visit WDW...

Reasons I love May -
Star Wars weekends at MGM
Longer days make it feel like more time for magical fun
Warmer weather means more fun in the water - pools at the resorts and Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach

Reasons I love December -
Christmas decorations
Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party
Candlelight Processional at Epcot
Animal Kingdom is more pleasant to be at (due to heat in summer it just gets too humid sometimes for me)

They have a new thing on the Disney website called "Wonderful Weeks at Disney." It shows the weeks at WDW that they consider to be a great time to go. The break it down by seasons and May is in there, just the last week though. Which is when we are going, not because of this we already had it planned, but it was nice to see!
:cool1:

We have decided to go in December.. and we are staying at the Poly.. its 5 of us, so I am hoping the rooms will be nice..

Hey!! Congrats, believe me you won't regret it. In 2005 was the first time I went in December and now is the time I like the most in comparison with the others.:goodvibes

We were just there in Dec. actually Dec. 26-28 and it was very busy! It was beautiful though and the weather was very nice. The one day it was almost 85 and that was too hot, the other day it was overcast and rained on and off and it was only around 65 and that was perfect! Have Fun!

I've been both times of the year and I would say May would be the best time. However with that said you also have to keep in mind that if you've never seen the Disney christmas time celebration it's worth going to see. Honestly it's going to busy in December at each weekend, but the first or second weeks of the month aren't bad. May is slower because all of the kids are still in school. There might be foreigners there because their holidays are different, but the weather is a little warmer in May.

The first week in December it is dead. Then it picks up to 3 hr lines for everything and overcrowded everything. Best time.. beginning of January if you want everything to be dead and dont want to wait for anything.

Hi all-

First post for me, here!

We are going to WDW in May, and I am SO thrilled that it's a slower month. My DD is 7 and my DS is 3.5. I can't wait! DH is just thinking about how to pay for it, which is a legit concern! ;)
