In March the rates go up to $104 per point at Saratoga Springs. No actual date in March has been confirmed, could be March 1 or just sometime in March.

Animal Kingdom Lodge is the next DVC Club to be opened up!!
No confirmation date on when they will start selling AKL. Our guy (Michael Johnson) said they are all waiting with great anticipation for the release date of AKL.

Saratoga Springs is almost full, (he says) and the next property to be released to DVC is Animal Kingdom Lodge. They will be taking over 1 of the exsisting Hotels at AKL and begin building new buildings to expand the DVC at AKL.

That's the latest news.

Our Vacation club guide (Michael) didn't say what AKL would go for, but he did say they wouldn't be at the current price of $101 or the current sale price (with referral) of $86 per point. He said it in a way that meant they were not going to be cheap and not going to be on sale. He said it wil be one of the best properties. I am sure that is how they will price it as well.

Only speculation on my part, but I would guess since SSR is going to be $104 in March, my guess is that AKL will probably be $107-$110 per point, when they do start selling. Just my guess though, I will update you if I hear anything else.

Good news for us is that our value is going up on DVC for current members. So if we ever do have to sell, or rent, at least we are gaining value. SSR is the only DVC that expires in 2054. All others currently expire in 2042.

So far the additional years associated with SSR has not translated into higher resale valuation. SSR contracts currently sell at or below BWV and VWL and significantly below BCV resales.

Give it 10-15 years I bet SSR resale prices will be higher than BCV since it does offer the 12 extra years.

Exactly......as time goes on, the 12 extra years at SSR will increase the value, or re-sale value when there are less years left at the other DVC resorts. Currently you can also get SSR at only $86 until Jan. 20th. Plus you will still be able to use the SSR pts at BCV and BWV in the 7 month window. Plus, Plus, SSR has the lowest maintanence fees!

When we purchased OKW in 1997 both OKW and BWV were priced the same for points but the maintenance fees were the difference. I wonder if this will be the same if there are SSR sales still available when AKV become available which would put them both at $104 if reports are correct. Maybe presale and incentives will make a difference in the final costs.

I guess we will have to wait to see the prices are for AKL. I am going to call our vacation guide to see what she has heard.

I really wish we could buy before 1/20 or even 3/5 but it just won't happen until October. I don't mind paying an extra $450 for 150 pts. at SSR...I just hope it's not full by then! :goodvibes

We're at WDW now ... we spent a bit of time w/our guide (we just love our guide!) on Sunday...he told us:

1. The price per point at SSR is going up 3/4 (he didn't give us a dollar amount, though)...but he thinks Disney will give current members a "grace period" (could be up to a couple of months) before we're charged the new, higher price

2. They're not yet selling Animal Kingdom ... and the guides have not yet been given price or time information on the new AKV

3. He told us Disney is "transforming" the theatre at SSR into a new sales center for Animal Kingdom Villas...(the sales center will stay at SSR) he said it's going to be spectacular (we told him even if we don't buy we want to go see it, and he said "of course")...they're going to use all sorts of technology to make it look like a building on the savannah...it sounded awesome

4. He said they expect SSR to be sold out by the end of the year

5. The person at the DVC kiosk at SSR, just outside Artist's Palette, told us they think the new section (Grandstand) at SSR will open at the rate of one building every two months until it's all open by August...

6. We discussed an add-on...our use year is Feb...our guide told us if we buy 115 points (the number I'm interested in) before the 1/20 expiration date on the current promotion, we'll get all the 115 points we buy right away, and then the next full allotment on Feb 1...very close to being double points for buying in (oh, I am SOOOOO tempted!)...plus, we can bank the full current amount (there will be 11 days left in our use year, but we'll get all 115 points (if I buy) and can bank them all, and then get another 115 on Feb 1...close to irresistable!

I do love our guide...he gave us all this news and put absolutely zero pressure on us...in fact, told us to enjoy our vacation, go home, think about it, and call him next week...that'd be plenty of time, he told us...
he also promised us a tour of the new sales center for AKV even tho we have no interest in buying AKV points (if I get more points, they'll be at SSR) ...

And that's the news from on-site as of this week!

The price per point is not as important to me as the maintenance fees. I heard about $5 per point, which seems pretty good with a savannah to support.

I was thinking the same thing...until I remembered DVC recently introduced multi-tiered pricing on the sold-out resorts.

Still, I don't think it makes any sense for AKV and SSR. Rather than having different base prices they could just as easily vary the incentives between the two resorts. (i.e. AKV at $104 with a $5 discount or SSR at $104 with a $10 discount.)
