Buying into two different DVC resorts

I have a question... After doing a lot of thinking I kind of want to buy into two different resorts. I want to buy into Beach Club and buy into one of the newer resorts since I will be able to own it for 47 years. My question for those of you who that have bought into two different resorts, can you use both resort points for one reservation. For example lets say I buy 150 at Beach Club and 150 at Sarantoga, If I want to spend 200 points at Beach club could I take 50 points out of my Sarantoga points for the Beach Club stay?

I would like to know if this has worked for people in the past and if you have had any problems. Any suggestions/comments would be great help.

Thanks

You can combine the points at 7 months but not at 11 months. So you could use your BCV points to book there 11 months out and then try to add to that reservation at 7 months out using your SSR points, subject to availability. In order to combine the points, the two contracts must be the same Use Year and must be set up as a master contract and an add-on to that master.

If you have contracts which are totally separate (two master contracts rather than a master and an add-on), you could use points from the BCV contract to book as many whole nights as you can at 11 months and use points from the SSR contract to add on whole nights at 7 months. To combine the points from two master contracts, you could transfer some of your SSR points to your BCV contract, using up your one transfer per Use Year in both master contracts. The SSR points should retain their home resort status so again, you would have to wait until 7 months out to use those points to add additional nights to your BCV reservation (subject to availability) or waitlist those nights.

You can also use banking and borrowing in this situation. By banking some/all of your BCV points into the next UY and combining them with the next UY's BCV points, and possibly also borrowing BCV points from the following UY, you can accumulate three UY's worth of points in the middle UY to use for a trip during that UY. Then you can book the entire stay at 11 months out because you would be using only BCV points for the reservation.

First of all, I'm assuming both purchases are through Disney with one master contract number, same UY, etc.

You can only book your home resort at the 11 month window with that resort's points. So for your 200 point BCV stay, you can only use your 150 BCV points during the priority booking window. Of course, you can borrow the other 50 from the next year's BCV point allocation so that you can make the entire reservation using your BCV contract and the 11 month booking advantage.

At the 7 month booking window, all DVC points are the same and can be used for any resort. At that time, you can combine points for a reservation at any DVC resort.

What works for us (we have two contracts but they are separate, not one master from Disney) is to use the points from one contract each year and borrow from the next year of that contract to make a reservation. Then we bank the points from the other contract. The following year we use the contract with the banked points and so forth.

Do you know if Disney ever offers discounts for members to add points or are they top dollar?

If I were to buy a 150 pt SSR contract from disney then later when AK opens want to buy another 150 pts there would current members get discounts or only new members?

Thanks,
Melanie

I don't think there will be any discounts on AKV right out of the box. There seems like a lot of people have their checkbooks open and ready to go as soon as DVC tells the guides we're open for business.

I have no idea what (if any) incentives there might be for AKV. To give you an idea of what they have offered in the recent past, they have a discount in effect now for members adding on at SSR. You get the $86/pt incentive price if you add a minimum of 115 points. Prior to that, they offered things like a free AP with SSR add-ons (I think it was a minimum of 100 points to qualify for the free AP).

The incentives are usually at the resort they are currently selling (SSR in this case). I've only been a member for 17 months so I don't have a lot of DVC history, but in that short time I have also seen discounts at HHI and VB ($87/pt at a time when the other resorts were $92/pt) and currently members can add on at OKW (and probably HHI and VB as well?) for $92/pt vs $95/pt for BCV, BWV and VWL.
