I'm just trying to understand how transferring points works before I dive into it - I'm short about 20 points for our August vacation so was going to look for some points to be transferred in from somewhere - Is there only 1 transfer in or out that can be done per year? Approximatly how long does it take for the points to be transferred into my account? Do the points have to have the same use year or can they be any as long as they will be good until the end of my vacation in august? I presume approx $10 per point is about the going rate?
Thanks!

It is one in or one out per use year. I think you may find the $$ per point a little more for that situation, I know I'd want significantly more for that small a transfer. If you can borrow, you'd be better off doing so. If not, do you need more points anyway and maybe should consider an add on.

Thanks,
HAve already looked at adding on and it just won't work right now - want to be able to pay cash for anything I do and with just having bought a brand new house cash is all tied up for a bit - thought this would be an easier way to ensure we can do the full vacation. Just want to have all my facts strait before I dive into this!

Look for distressed points or those in a holding account that might work for you. And I applaud the financial approach, very responsible.

Have you also thought about trying to get the room for cash on your last day or 2, and then have them link the reservations together. It might be slightly more than transferring points, but would be less hassle. And you never know if it's a weekend night and you can get the member discount, it might be a pretty good deal.

I did call and ask about room rate - because we are taking my brother and his family we need a 2 bedroom and the rate they quoted me was over $500 for one night - Yikes - and we were asking about WLV and there were no member discounts left for there for some reason for the last week of August - I thought this would be a fairly quiet week due to the kids all heading back to school.

If it comes to it I can always just book in a 2 bedroom at OKW as I have enough points for that - my brother really wanted to stay at WLV though - and I would be 3 points short to book a 2 bedroom at SSR which is his 2nd choice. I don't really care where I stay as All the resorts are beautiful!

I just posted a similiar scenario in the "commercial renitng" thread on the Misc. board.

With the one transfer rule in or out it is much tougher to find a member willing to transfer that small amount of points to you. They in essence burn the one for the year with that small transaction.

You may find someone willing here on the DIS but you might need to pay far more than the 10/pp unless someone is just plain nice or never transfers.

This is an unfortunate side effect of the rening crack down.

Good luck.

Once they are transfered in, do the points keep their same home resort and more importantly, their expiration? I assume so with the expiration. Can you bank points that have been transfered in as long as they are within the bankable window?
