2. Possibly do yosemite?
3. drive down the coast: Monterey Aquarium, at least one other night stop maybe two
4. LA--girls want to see the hollywood walk of fame (stars on the ground), they would love to see the hollywood sign and be in an audience although I think they are too young and probably shows on hiatus at that time. I could skip LA
5. Anahiem--Disneyland for a day or two
6. San Diego: Sea World (we have not done), Coronado maybe, beach
7. Grand Canyon maybe

I know it is broad and I am still working on it. I am planning on saving some money by getting the tickets from the southwest deal, another rewards credit card for a couple hotel nights, and have $400 disney rewards to help pay for disney.

What do you think? How long would you take for this trip. How many extra days would Yosemite or Grand Canyon take? If you had to pick one which one would you pick? Thanks!

Hey all -
We will be out the last week in Jan and 1st week in Feb 2014. I'm looking at all the things we would like to do and I'm not sure I'll be able to fit it all in, so I was hoping for some guidance on what may be the better things to plan on doing.
The set up - the 3 of us are coming out for DH's work conference and adding on a week to go to DL after the conference. This basically means that DS (will be 6) and I will be on our own for our time in SD. I've got 5 days to fill however the kiddo and I want to fill them!
Here is my to-do list right now:
1- Legoland - a must do for DS
2- SD Zoo - a must do for me
3- SD Wild animal park - pretty sure I want to do this as well
4- Sea World - maybe?
5- Knott's Berry Farm - looks fun, but I'm not sure
6- Belmont Park - another maybe
7- New Children's Museum - another maybe
8- Whale watch cruise

Given the time of year we will be out there, I'm not sure that we will want to spend much time at the beach/tide pools, etc. especially since we really aren't beachy people anyhow.
I'm pretty open to suggestions if there is something you feel like I should add to the list.
DS is a pretty normal 5/6yr old boy. He is NOT a daredevil and does not like coasters, etc. He loves legos, baseball, animals, etc.
TIA everyone!

I assume that Vegas when its busy is actually a bit more fun then when its not. Am i right with this assumption? We will mostly be seeing the sights and maybe visit a show or 2.

If not we can change our route and do it the other way around and head to San Diego first.

Ok, I know I had questions about the Sea World All Day Dining, so here's what I found out during our April 2013 trip. I have no idea how often Sea World changes it's menus or prices, but this should help a little on deciding if the dining deal with work for you.

It is $32.99 for adults and $16.99 for children (age 3-9).

All Day Dining allows you to have one entrée; one non-alcoholic drink (regular size) and EITHER one side or one dessert. However, you can get more food just by going back through the line again. On our days the lines were 5-10 minutes max, so it wasn't a big deal....we got our entrée/drink/side and went back later for a dessert. A few times we just walked up and got a dessert, lol. VERY unusual for us, but so much fun. Desserts are $3.69 at EVERY participating restaurant (there are other desserts not included in the dining plan, they typically were the really large items and the special desserts that included a souvenir or a reusable plate). I give prices here for those that want to price out what they might eat to see if the dining deal might work for them.

When you purchase your wristband be sure to ask them for the hours of the participating restaurants for that day. It is also printed on the back of the park map. This matters because both days we were there all but one of the participating restaurants closed more than an hour before the park closed (for us that meant 2 restaurants closing at 3:45 or 4:00pm. ) Since we knew about this from another trip, we knew to pick the latest open restaurant for our last meal of the day.

I've seen they are thinking of opening Tioga Road up to a month or more later than usual to save money for ploughing, etc. IIRC the normal time is Memorial Day, so this would push it back to the end of June when we are going. This will not be a disaster, but I had planned on driving up 395 and across the park, as well as hiking in the Tuolomne meadows area.

I've read that there's been a dry winter with not as much snow, so I'm hopeful everything will be open by the 26th! Anyone with insight as to how much snow the Sierras have gotten? The webcams seem to show that there's not a lot up there.

Fingers crossed. I've been planning this trip for at least 2 years. :worried:

Planning a trip to San Francisco for May 24-28. We currently have a hotel booked near the airport that includes free parking, free internet and free wi-fi for a great rate. We booked this on Saturday and we were so excited to be done with it and move forward in our planning.

Now that I've started planning our activities, I'm worried we'll either A) spend a lot of time and money parking the car at all the attractions or B)spend hours on public transit just to get downtown.

Are we better off staying more centrally located, or can we manage to drive into the city every day? Is it worth it to pay for parking at a nicer, union square area hotel? I would love the option to just take the MUNI everywhere...

Here are a list of the attractions/events we want to see/do:
- Walt Disney Museum
- Golden Gate Bridge/Park
- Union Square
- Fisherman's Wharf
- Ghirardelli Square
- SFMOMA
- Maybe one of the Aquariums or the California Academy of Sciences
- Giants Game (an absolute must for DH, he is taking care of this part)

We are a young couple and it will be my visit to San Francisco (DH went for a couple days about 12 years ago with his dad). I should also add that neither of us have ever lived in a downtown area and we are a little nervous about all the planning!

Oh, and for reference, the reason why we're trying to save our $$ on the hotel stay in San Francisco is because we are staying at the GCH in DLR and just bought APs too!
