I've been stalking the dining reservation page trying to tweak our ADRs for my Dad's first ever visit in August. I got a late start planning our ressies for this trip (at about the 4.5 month mark) because it took so long to lock in the who/where/when of an extended family trip. So going in I knew that it was unlikely we would get any great ADRs. But there was one I really wanted: a pre-park open CP. After 6 weeks of trying every single day (ok, 2-3 times a day), I had pretty much given up hope. Then tonight I couldn't sleep... so I logged on... and I got an 8:05 for my Dad's actual birthday for our party of 12!!!!!

Yes, I feel like someone just dropped a ton of pixiedust: on my head.

Good night!

My oldest DS and I are having a raging debate about lawn mowing, and I need some other opinions!

Some background: My DH grew up mowing the grass at his house. He shared the duties with his brother. They were expected to mow their entire yard. Most of the kids in both of our neighborhoods mowed their lawns too. It was the norm back in the "olden days" (late 80's/early 90's) around us.

My DS has been mowing for two years now and we typically only ask him to do one section of our lawn - front or back - at a time, since our yard is larger. The mowable areas total less than 1/2 of an acre. We have a plain old, gas powered, push mower.

My DS complains constantly about mowing the grass. :headache:He tells me that none of his friends mow their grass and that our lawn mower is horrible. (I do realize that much of this is being a teen.)

After thinking about it and talking to some of my friends, and other Mom's at school, it seems like very, very few kids are mowing their lawns anymore. Now I'm wondering if we are just being old fashioned and out of touch (at the ripe old age of 39!) about the whole lawn mowing thing.

So, do you your older kids mow the lawn? If so, how big is your lawn and what type of mower (riding, self-propelled etc) do you have? If they don't mow the lawn, can you tell me why you've chosen not to have them mow?

Thanks for settling an argument! (Hopefully!!):thumbsup2

My TA said she could put in a request for us to choose which days we wanted to eat in certain dining rooms. Which restaurant would you skip. The first night is halloween (no skipping), second night is pirate night( also not skipping), but the last night has nothing planned so I would like to go to Palo to celebrate our 11th wedding Anniversary. So which dining experience should I forgo? Thanks for your opinions in advance.

I was thinking the enchanted garden. I figured we can have lunch there on embarkation.

Does someone else have something similar, or would be willing to DISign a similar set of shirts for me?

The link to ShellsShirts library is here: http://s334.photobucket.com/albums/m...irt%20designs/

and the engagement shirts are the first 2 on the second row.

The edits I'm looking for is that both shirts need to have Mickey on them, and while one shirt has the phrase "I said yes", the other has the phrase "He said yes". The formal asking date is August 1, 2013. We will be in Epcot at WDW, dinner at Chefs de France. (I really need to overcome my compulsive need to plan).

Thanks in advance.

We're just closing now on a resale (300 BWV points), and were hoping to put together a trip for multiple family members this year during Xmas break, probably in the later section from the 28th through Jan 5th, though we could take pretty much any 7-8 day section in that two weeks. We would love a Grand Villa (and who wouldn't?) And with borrowing and the banked points on the contract, we have enough for OKW or SSR, and probably AKV if part of the trip is in January.

Am I smoking wacky tobacky to think this might be doable? Obviously we won't be in Disney's system at the 7-month mark. If everything goes smoothly, we might be able to reserve by early June.

We all could pack into a treehouse villa as well (we have 9), or packed super tight into an AKV 2-bedroom, so those could be a reasonable fallback, if those are any easier to book than GVs. Or we can book a 2-bedroom and a studio or 1-bedroom anywhere and try to get them near each other.

If ultimately there aren't any GVs available in that time frame, where and what dates are we most likely to pick up a waitlist GV? SSR? OKW? The week of Xmas or the week of new years?

Or am I kidding myself?

First of all, I want to thank all those who post such wonderful tips on these boards! I just returned from my DL trip (I travelled with my DH and my 27 year old DD), and thought that I would, in turn, share some of our adventures with you.

We stayed at the DL hotel, in a pool view room in the Fantasy tower. Check-in was smooth and friendly. We visited California Adventure first, on the Friday, as there was the extra morning hour. Bag check opened up at 7:30AM, and we were at the gate shortly thereafter. DH and I purchased our entrance tickets on the spot, but DD had a WDW hopper pass with days left on it that she planned to use (thanks for the tip!) and, at DH’s urging, she approached the CM who was standing behind the gate where we were in line, and asked her about swapping a WDW day for a DL day. The CM took her ticket, went to make a phone call to WDW to confirm the validity, and returned a few moments later with her substitute ticket, all before the gates even opened! Around 7:50AM, we were let in, and headed right away to the far right side of the rope (again, thanks for the tip!). We were then walked to Carsland, and funnelled into a single line in which we ended up 1rst, 2nd and 3rd! The ride was not functional until roughly 8:12AM, but we were first to board and had a blast! Before official opening to the general public at 9:00AM, we rode California Screamin’ twice (well, DH and DD did!), Toy Story Mania twice, The Little Mermaid twice, the carousel and Grizzly Rapids (not the exact name). We then moved on to Soarin’ with only a 10 minute wait. It started to get busy after that, and I will post more about our trip a bit later. If you have questions, feel free to ask!
