Me Me Me (but you knew that already, didn't you???)

Does anyone have any definite details on the medal (or lack thereof) for the Minnie? I totally understand if it is not as big or flashy as the half and full medals but I am hoping it is something more than the 5k rubber medals. I really wanted a "set" of medals with Donald (2006), Mickey (2007), Minnie (2006), the castle (2007), and maybe even Goofy someday so having an actual metal medal would be perfect!

I'm curious if they are offering them at all.

Before this year--I don't believe they had medals at the 5K. This was the first year I noticed it mentioned when you registered. The lack of mention of it for the Minnie has me concerned.

I hope we'll have a nice medal to show for the Minnie. I'm hoping that since they're going to all the trouble of a 2-day Expo and advertising this a big deal women's event, they'll not short us with a plastic medal.

I'm counting about 9 of us so far going for the Minnie. Anyone up for a lunch/dinner meet on Sat? Which restaurant manager should we irritate this time :rolleyes1

Count me in for doing the Minnie, room already booked and training has begun.

I registered mom(NYcpa) and myself for the Minnie(Women Run the World) 15K. Figured sis(Stitch_lover_Sith) could register herself using her CM discount. We are booked at ASSp(AAA) right now but are hoping to actually stay at AKL using sis' CM discount or AP rates(which Disney hasn't released yet).

My b-day is that Sat and we are currently booked at Coral Reef for dinner but we would be interested in another WISH meet for a meal. Does anyone think that there would be interest in doing shirts again? I think that there would have to be a minimum number of us interested in order for it to be cost effective. I could spearhead the ordering and such but would need someone with some creativity(where's Sunny/Plutosmyfav) to create a design.

Also we need to combine this thread with the people listed on a thread started a couple months back. I'm not DISboard savvy enough to link the two but hopefully by dropping the hint someone who is can do it. Thanks in advance to whomever does it.

I was planning to wear my WISH shirt from the half since mine was covered the whole race with a long-sleeved race shirt. It would be cool to have a special Minnie shirt ::MinnieMo . I don't think I've seen Sunny post yet, so maybe she's still at WDW?

CAM - I can tell that we have all spent a lot of time "together" this year as I was thinking about starting a thread like this ealier this after noon and then the work pulled me away :rotfl2:

My answer is maybe. My DR visit wasn't the greatest news but I will next be seeing a sports orthopedic so we'll see what he has to say. I will also be seeing a PT soon and will hopefully no something soon.

I so much want to be with you all especially since I missed the 1/2.

I have an ortho appt for my knees - well, actually later today. Onec I see how that goes, I will be better prepared to make a decision as to what I should do. Right now I'm leaning towards the 5K. I'm just not sure I will be ready for 15K by then, especially at a 15 min mile pace.

Even if my knees end up saying I'm not able to do any of the races I am still up for a meet. :cool1:

Me too, me too!!!! I have decided I'm doing it even if I can't get anyone to come with me. Mom is "thinking about it" and my best friend is having scheduling conflicts with her DH work(he can't take off to keep kids). So not sure who'll be with me yet. But I definately doing it.

I would love to meet up on Saturday. I may be staying at Pop. We stayed there for 1 night this last time & loved it. Plus, since this is a no family trip, I promised DH to make it "economical"

My current plan is to come in early Saturday morning and stay through Monday night. Am hoping Rhonda can make that work on her end. Not sure yet where we are staying, but am looking to do it as economically as possible, since the rest of my family isn't coming.

Minnie -- so glad you are seeing a sports specialist. We need you to get to feeling 100% as soon as possible! :goodvibes:

Mel -- Sunny is at WDW until Thursday, so hopefully we will hear from her this weekend.

Nancy -- I hope your appt went well and that you can be at a start line in May.

I am all in for a WISH lunch or dinner on Saturday. Pretty much anything is fine with me as far as location, as long as the WDW buses or monorail can get us there.

Just got an e-mail for "special" minnie rates for AKL, AsSports, and POR.

$194, $84, $104 per night respectively.

I wonder if I can get a Florida Residents Rate that is cheaper.

I can forward the e-mail to anyone who PM's me, not sure if I can post the website as it is a travel company that is the official travel planner for the weekend.

Did you all notice that grad nights are during the Minnie Marathon weekend??

I wonder what that will do to both crowd levels in the parks and how booked the resorts are :confused3

When we had grad night many moons ago (disturbing aside...my 20th high school reunion is this year :faint: ), the seniors came up on chartered buses and left that night after it was over. No overnight stays for 400 hormonal teenagers :scared1: . MK was closed to other guests during grad night. I think EPCOT was still open regular hours but [cough, cough] MGM and AK didn't exist yet.

Thank you for the info. I asked about this on theme park board to and it let me to a thread that said that other than MK closing early the grads are barely noticeable. Still a slow time in the world. However with all the people coming in for the Minnie weekend that may change.

I agree you should be okay.

Gradnight runs from like 10pm or so to 5am. So the hotel for the night is one big party in the park and busses return the kids back home. It is a destination event (meaning no impact to day guests nor the hotels).

I am seriously considering the Minnie 15k. I have never run before and it's been years since I did any sort of walking or exercise. We just got a treadmill and I think I need something like a race to motivate me to use it (an extra trip to WDW sure helps too!)

I haven't been able to find out if there is a time limit for these races. I know 15-16 min./mile is standard for the other races. Just curious...

TIA!

Entering the 2006 Half is what got me on my dusty treadmill. And i did finish. I'll be doing the 15k also and a little worried about the pacing also. Remember, ever potty stop has to be made up for by jogging faster!

Pace for the Minnie is a 15 min mile

Our first trip to WDW was in Apr-May 2004 for DD'2 graduation trip. We stayed ASM and it was during the Grad Nights. There were quite a few grads from out of state staying there also. We had no trouble with any of them. They mostly seemed polite, courteous, and non-rambunkish (??). The only thing we noticed was the addition people waiting for the buses. Also on the Fri night Pleasure Island was closed from 6 - 9 for grad night activities.

We didn't spend much time DD that night as the sky opened up and we got soaked.

Thanks for the info about the 15 min/mile pace!

My Mom did her first 1/2 in Disney this year - no excuse why I can't do one when I am 20 years younger, right? ;) I do have bad knees and may have a slower training pace though.

I watch DH run Disney every year (5 years in a row now) and seeing everyone of all shapes and sizes running is truly inspirational. I think I finally may be mentally ready to attempt a race myself.

I have also been fighting to lose this last stubborn 10 lbs. on Weight Watchers also - this would definately help with that too.

We are trying to be better about not spending money this year. Maybe I can eBay my way to the Minnie Weekend! :teeth:

Tiffany just freaked me out on another thread when she said Minnie's only 15 weeks away :scared1:

I would like to suggest a meet on Sat (is that May 6th?), either lunch or early dinner. Also thought of maybe something just kinda casual like ice cream at Ghirardelli's or Beaches N Cream. If we want to do sit-down, we'll be able to make ADR's soon, so we probably need to decide by the first week of Feb. Our TE experienced kinda soured me...I was also thinking about meeting at a food court like POR or POFQ.

What do y'all think? How many would be interested and what would you like to do? I would be a party of either 4 or 6.

I would love to do a Minnie meet! :thumbsup2 I like the casual idea, too. It was kind of hard to get around and meet people at TE. The expo is open Sat. from 10 - 5. For those of us coming in that day, we just need to be able to pick up packets before they close. We will be a party of 3. Thanks for suggesting this!!! :teeth:

I would love to meet for an early dinner. Somewhere at DTD might be a good idea because everyone can take the bus there. I know Rhonda (akasleepingbeauty) and I won't have a rental car (as far as I know).

I walked in during Marathon Expo to just find out about hours and if they'd remain open for the playoffs--it was PACKED and there is no ADR's. So something to keep in mind.

I like the foodcourt ideas as well.

Trying to convince hubby to let me do DL--so while I"m expressing interest...gotta pick my travel plan battles. Worst case scenario, I can drive over same day for minnie. Heck--I can drive over...go to expo, eat with everyone and then come back home.

I would like to know if I could join up with everyone as I will be running my first race in the 15K and would really like to run with someone.

I had posted in another post that my friends who are training me told me I should be able to complete the Minnie in about 1:30 and then I got on the treadmill on Sunday and just about died.

Anyways looking to join up with anyone who would like a partner.

Here's an "anyone know" question: I just sent in my registration yesterday and now I'm starting to obsess :rotfl: . Anybody know if they'll send us a packet (like they did for the marathon) with our form to sign and instructions on transportation, etc.? I'm really wondering if early AM transportation to the start will be provided like it was at the marathon, or should we prepare to make alternate arrangements. I hope they'll send something prior to the race that makes this clear rather than giving it all out at the expo. (when it''s too late to make other arrangements). The website doesn't say.

If you don't know specifically for the Minnie, can anyone who's done some of the "smaller" events such as the race for the tase tell what happened there? Maybe it'll be similar for the Minnie. Any input appreciated to soothe my obsessive mind.

My DD and I did the Race for the Cure which started and ended at the AK parking lot. We had to take a taxi from OKW to the start because there was no transportation furnished.

The Minnie should be a larger race so hopefully they will have transport to the start.

I guess I am in!

I am nervous since I haven't exercised in forever! But, we now have a treadmill in the basement (with a tv) and I bought 2 really nice workout outfits tonight! I am bound & determined to start training tomorrow afternoon.

My Mom is going to come with me and do the 15k. She did her first half earlier this month at WDW. If she can do it, and she's 19 years older, I really have no excuse! ;) And it will be a great mother/daughter weekend - leaving the hubbies (and my 2 year old) at home! :teeth:

Welcome Keri! pixiedust: As Minnie said, come join us on the weekly Walking/Running Club thread. Is your 2yo a daughter or son? I have a DD who's almost 3 and I think Lynnda's DS is also near that.

Earl of Sandwich is nice...they have some indoor seating, but I think the outdoor seating area might work better, especially if we meet a little early.

I've never been to Wolfgang Puck's, so not sure of seating. Express menu looks tasty!

I LOVE Bongo's...would definitely be happy to eat there again.

There's a stage area near World of Disney that I've never seen anyone performing on, with lots of seating. If we overflow other seating areas, we could potentially get our food to go and all sit there.

Any other thoughts?

Mel- that sounds good to me

I have officially signed up for the Minnie now. ::MinnieMo

Another transportation questions. The race starts at AK but ends at Epcot. We will be driving so where do we leave our car? They have got to be running busses for that. Either park we park at we will need to get to the other one somehow.

Welcome Keri and Kristi!!!

I am officially signed up now, too!!! YEA!!!! :teeth:

My little man will be 3 in May. We'll be at Disney for the Minnie (probably off-site because we will need to bring the dog... never stayed off-site before!!!) Then we will be back on Friday for DS's birthday and stay through the weekend for the triathlon - this time on-site without :dog: .

I vote for Earl of Sandwich - they have a pretty good outside eating area, and we love the food. Wolfgang Puck Ex is very good, but we have had to wait in long, slow lines there every time - maybe just a fluke, though. We've never been to Bongo's - that might be fun to try, too! :thumbsup2

I'm not sure about the transportation questions. I'm sure if we have to get ourselves to AK, they will bus us from the finish back to our cars. When we did the Disney 10K Race for Taste, we started at Wide World and finished at EPCOT and they just bussed us back to WW. I don't remember them providing transportation for the start, but I could be wrong.

Disneefun: I doubt we will get a packet for Minnie. For Race for the Taste we just got stuff at the expo and an instruction card as to where to be when. Don't stress over transportation, though. There should be enough of us there with cars that we can get everyone to the start line if busses aren't provided. WISHers always take care of each other!!! :goodvibes

Well, I need to get back to looking through race pictures. I'm taking a break after every 1000... :faint: I never found a castle pic for DH - now I'm trying to find an AK of him. See you all in a bit! :surfweb:

I am mailing in my registration today! How scary is that? :scared1:

I have a 2.5 year old son, Zachary. He ran the 100 meter dash at WDW earlier this month (don't get me started on how badly organized that was...). But he got his Chicken Little medal.

I am going to start researching airfares and hopefully find something somewhat cheap. I am also going to call Disney and book a room at a value so I have something definate for now. I really am hoping for a good AP rate - but probably will still stick with the value since this trip isn't exactly in the budget. (we were suppossed to be taking a "disney break" this year) ;)

I am really hoping Disney provides transportation to the race since our plan is to not rent a car. We normally do rent, but we were planning on just using DME to save money this time.

ETA: Just booked our airfare on a great Southwest DING that just came up - $136 RT - not too shabby!

Sara...there's a space for gender on the Minnie registration. I doubt they could truly exclude men from the race.

Christa's photo on the other thread got me thinking...Kitchen Sink meet, anyone?

I was planning to wear my WISH shirt from the half, also. If everyone is interested in getting new shirts, we could start looking. Cam suggested a different color than lime since so many other people were wearing lime for the half/full. Anyone interested in new shirts?

akasleepingbeauty
01-27-2006, 05:44 PM
The whole transportation question motivated Cam and me to rent a car so we'll have one for the weekend. We got an intermediate for only $77 for 3 days including taxes etc. so for that price it'll be worth it not to sweat if there is no Disney-provided transportation.

A kitchen sink meet does sound fun but you are right about how small B&C is - tough to get any sizeable group in there but there is some seating outside.

As for new shirts, I wouldn't mind having another one for Minnie - maybe in pink or red since those are Minnie-ish colors :) I loved the lime green ones but there were a surprising number of people wearing that color for the half and full. Anyone artisitic enough to come up with a good design? If not, then we can always wear our beloved green shirts instead.

Can't wait to see everyone in May!!

I'm down with getting new shirts. Red would be way cool!! Just let me know what you guys want to do and if my assistance is needed in any way.

I know no transporation was provided for the Race for the Taste 10K, so it might not be a bad idea to have a rental car.

I am hoping to stay at Pop but will wait for AP rates to decide.

I just realized I haven't posted here! I, too will be running the Minnie (thanks to these great Southwest Ding fares that are popping up!!) I'm working on my pace since the Minnie is even faster than the 1/2 and full (this morning was the first time I broke 13 minute/mile!!)

As for the transportation-- I actually called WDW sports after I registered, and he said there would be no special transportation to the start for the Minnie. That kind of confused me, because on the website, they encourage you to use the Magical Express. He said the only transportation will be the regular resort transportation, so I should try calling the resort!!?? There is no "regular" transportation at 6:30 in the morning, is there?? I'm kind of inclined to try calling again and re-asking, because I wonder if he was talking about transportation at the end-- I can't see them not providing transportation when they are telling people to use Magical Express...

Now, to choose a resort to stay at...

It really sounds like Disney isn't going to offer transportation to the race start. THIS STINKS! This is truly a budget trip for me & Mom - I am only going because we got a great DING airfare. Oy!

I guess I have to decide to rent a car or just get a cab that morning. I guess a cab is alot cheaper. :sad2: Actually, maybe a cab isn't so bad. We would have to park at AK. Then after finishing in Epcot, we'd have to bus back to AK, then drive to our resort. This way, we just bus back to our resort. Decisions, decisions!

Hi everyone,

That wouldn't be good if we didn't have transportation but I guess if the event is small then it makes sense. So does that mean that they won't have the cheering squads and characters around like I saw on pictures at the Half and Marathon event?

So does that mean Sara that you raced the 10k run? I was wondering if they will have time markers out throughout the course or not?

Today I went running outside with my two half marathoner friends and just about pretended to have an injury or jump in the river because I was having a hard time, which wouldn't have been good because it was only about 0 outside(I live in Canada).

Anyways there is several weeks to go. Good luck in everyones' training effort this week.

From what other have said about the 10k's & stuff they have done, they don't do any special race a.m. transportation. They will bus us from Epcot back to AK to our cars. Maybe you can hook up with some other DISers staying at the same resort & share a cab. I know most people were planning on not having a car.

Yeah, I am thinking the cab is the way to go. At Epcot, we'd have to be bussed anyway, might as well go directly back to the resort.

You guys are talking about a Kitchen sink meet?

I was sitting here thinking that post-race on Mother's day, that's exactly where I wanted to go LOL! So if you meet up during the weekend, I may stop by--but won't be indulging until after the race.

I start training today. Wahoo!!

Just found this thread....duh!

I'm signed up for Minnie...

No tranportation in the a.m.? Great, I, like many others here, squeezed this trip in 'cause of the DING fare. I can't rent a car, too. Guess the cabs will be busy that a.m., eh? How far is it from OKW to AK anyway?

MMMMM....Kitchen Sink..... :cloud9: this sounds like a good meeting place!

I did run the 10K and they did have the time markers out.

I guess with no transportation provided, I am torn as to whether I will stay off-site or onsite. I guess it depends on the AP rates, if any, that are released. Right now I am at Comfort Inn Universal Studios with breakfast and internet access for $47.50/nt. The hotel got great reviews on Tripadvisor. I also have a car reserved - rates are kind of steep right now. Then I'll be able to get Rapid Rewards credits with the hotel and car. Pop Century would have to go for about $55/night to get me to switch...

OK. This time I am really going to do it. I signed up for the half, but wound up realizing AFTER I sent my money that it was the weekend of my best friend's daughters Bat Mitzvah. NO WAY I would have missed that!

I went to the Y this AM and hit the treadmill. I am using the Hal Higdon training plan. Stamina probably won't be a problem... TIME will (I am SLOW AND OLD LOL!)

Hope to get togehter with some of you. (I am amazed at how organized you guys are, planes, hotels, cars booked. I am the last minute type.... I was thinking of HRP.... Whrilpool ROOMS! LOL!)

I'd like to propose the Earl of Sandwich for our Minnie meet on Sat afternoon, May 6. We were at Downtown tonight and there's plenty of outdoor seating...there were a couple of large cheerleading groups eating there tonight with plenty of room left over. We could try to meet early (4:30 or 5pm?) to maximize our chance of beating the crowds. The Earl is also very close to Wolfgang Puck's Express, so anyone that didnt' want to get food from the Earl could bop over to Wolfy's then bring their food over to join everyone else.

And of course, Ghirardelli's not too far away either

Hi all. I've been following this thread because I have just signed up for the Minnie and am so excited to finally get to do a run through WDW! So far I can only go about 30 minutes without dying so I hope I can make it through!! But I was wondering about some of the stuff I've read---someone mentioned pictures. Do you bring a camera with you? disposable? I have done races before in college but they were shorter and over much quicker. Anything I need to be thinking about as far as clothing, bringing with me???.... Also for those that have done the 1/2 how do you feel afterwards? Do you just want to crash? or will I feel like doing the parks the rest of the day with my family? I know everyone is different but I'm trying to get a feel for things. Thanks! Also what are the Donald and Goofy medals people are talking about? How did you get them?

xterratri
02-16-2006, 05:36 PM
Welcome DebM. Easy questions first- Donald is the finisher's medal for the half marathon, mickey for the full marathon, and goofy is for the, you guessed it, people goofy enough to do both.
As far as whether you will feel up to touring parks afterwards, that in part depends on 2 things- your physical readiness going into it and how hard you push. I often feel a bit wiped for a couple hours after a long run but I did a 13 miler last weekend and felt great so you never know. Chances are you'll be somewhat tired and may want to stay off your feet so it might be a good idea to plan a hotel rather than park day.
Camera- I didn't carry one for the full but I was suffering under the delusion that I was going to be running for time. Got sick the week before, got hurt, and stung by a bee during the race- not a good pace but I would still do it all over again.
Clothes- weather.com has this custom weather page feature where you can put in dates and events and it gives the average weather for that date and location up until it is close enough to give a real forecast. So long answer to short question, it will likely be somewhere in the vicinity of the ave high of 87 and low of 64. For me, that is shorts and a short sleeve/sleeveless race top type weather. wicking fabrics such as coolmax, drylete, etc are key. Many people have gotten good workout clothes at a reasonable price at Target.
Hope this helps you.

debm
02-16-2006, 11:46 PM
Yes, that helps!! Thanks so much!!

I am hoping to increase to 5 miles tomorrow---on the treadmill though. Our temps just dropped 40 degrees today after a thunderstorm so it is now in the 20's!!! BRRRR!!!

debm
02-17-2006, 06:03 PM
OK---I have another question. Of course I've been to WDW many times but you don't pay attention to "hills" until you are running up them!! How hilly is the 15K course? If anything I'm thinking just a teeny bit--more like "small bumps" ---nothing like I have here in Illinois. I know Epcot is not hilly, but in between parks what is it like? Thanks!! BTW I made 5 miles today and didn't have to walk at all. It was on the treadmill since it is freezing outside but I still felt a huge accomplishment since the farthest I've done is 4---and that hasn't been too many times. The lady next to me did 10 though!!!!! I can't imagine yet!

TiffJ
02-17-2006, 06:47 PM
Its a pretty flat course. The biggest hill we had for the 1/2 was the "Contemporary Hill" and the off ramps to Epcot. I think this course is the last bit of the full so maybe others can answer better, but it is considered a flat course.

Cograts on the 5 miles. :thumbsup2 That's awesome!

Did I see something about a Kitchen Sink meet for after the Minnie? We would certainly be up for that. How many would be interested?

I really haven't been pursuing the shirt thing since Liz is working on her really cool penguin shirts, but looks like those wouldn't be 'official' until April, which might be too late for us in early May. I noticed the 5K and 1 mile have a red theme, so I'm wondering if a lot of people will be wearing red for the 15K too. I think I'm going to just plan to wear my WISH shirt unless everyone's interested in doing something specific for Minnie. What do y'all think?

Hi, guys! Sorry I have been MIA. Well, Rhonda and I have finalized a lot of our plans -- we are staying at Saratoga Springs and will take advantage of the spa for a pedicure after the 15K. Fun! A meet at DTD on Saturday sounds great and I have been looking forward to trying EoS. Very cool. As Rhonda noted above, we got a great deal on a rental car so if anyone is staying at SSR and needs a ride to the start of the 15K, send me a PM and Rhonda or I will coordinate with you.

I am still working on what to wear for the Minnie. Hoping to be a smaller size by then so that I won't feel like I need to hide inside an oversized tee shirt with bike shorts. I am definitely thinking dri-fit or coolmax clothes are going to be critical for that morning, though, due to heat and humidity.

We have been to WDW in early May the last few years. It is very hot & humid. So yes, Cam, they less you can wear the better. I am prob going to wear a singlet w/shorts.

Ummm...I might kinda have a little problem with the Minnie weekend. DD13's last band concert of the year is now scheduled for May 6 at 2pm. We'll still be able to make it for the race on Sun, but won't be in town yet for the EoS meet.

I wonder if anyone will be in town on Friday? I'll be driving up alone that morning to pick up our packets. I'll have to go back home that afternoon, but if anyone wants to meet for lunch or at the Expo, I'd love that!

If I don't get to see anyone before the race, I'll be wearing my WISH shirt so I'll be easy to spot ;) I got iron-on letters at Wal-Mart and now have Chimera on the front and Mel on the back :thumbsup2

Disfan...many of us have trained with John Bingham's Marathoning for Mortals book for the half/full marathons. I'm using his half marathon training schedule for the Minnie, but only up to the week of the 8 mile LR. You can take potty breaks, just have to be sure that you keep up the pace requirement. Congrats on registering! We'll see you there!

I started exercising about 4 weeks ago. I am signed up for the Minnie 15k (to get my behind in gear).

Anyway, I tried to run about a week ago on our TM and I could only run about .15 miles and almost died. I did keep walking at approx. a 3.8 pace for 3+ miles though.

So, today I am scheduled to do 2 miles of running per my training schedule. I decide I am going to try to run at least a bit so I can get under 30 mins. (15 min / mile requirement). Well, I could only run at 4.8 for about .1 miles. I walked the rest anywhere from 3.6 - 4.0 (our TM stinks and fluctuates easily). I did 2 miles in 31:23.

I feel like a total failure and that there is no way I am going to not be swept. I mean, I have to keep up a 4.0+ for 9+ miles for for goodness sake!

DH keeps telling me that running on a TM is alot harder than running outside, but I don't quite believe him. I keep thinking he's just trying to make me feel better. I also have asthma and I know the cold air in the basement while I am running doesn't help. I still think running a max. of .15 miles is pretty darn pathetic!

Please tell me it gets better!!! :worried:

TiffJ
03-01-2006, 05:49 AM
Kristi-stop being so hard on yourself. I agree with DH. I did most of my training for the 1/2 outside. There were a couple of times I had to use the dreadmill because of weather. I hate it! I cannot go nearly as fast on it. Outside I can walk 13-14 min mile. On the TM to get less than 15 min mile it tough and to get anywhere near 14, I have to be running. Try doing some intervals. When I first started, running even 30 seconds was tough. Just build up run a little, walk a little. You have to find intervals that are good for you.
Good luck!!!!! Don't give up! :cheer2:

Kristi...I am having the same problem. I cannot for the life of me get 1 mile within the 15 minute time period(on a TM) But outside I notice that I can def. do 1 mile faster. On the TM it takes me like 19 minutes to do a mile but outside, I can do a mile in 16 minutes, so there is a big difference. I cannot wait for the weather to get a little warmer so I can do some major training.

So as Tif said, don't be so hard on yourself, you will get it. There is still about 9 weeks left. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2

Kristi --
You have gotten a lot of good feedback here. I'd like to summarize:
1. You don't have to be able to do it today, but are training to be able to do it on 5/7.
2. The dreadmill is definitely a different animal from being outside. I do find I go faster outside, though I like the idea that the treadmill keeps my pace consistent.
3. Running intervals is something to work towards as it helps build a little cushion on your speed. Try doing a warm up of 5 minutes, then start intervals, maybe jog for 1 minute and then walk 4 to recover and try to see how many intervals you can do that way. Maybe only one the first workout and then you'll walk the entire rest of that workout, but you can build up the number of intervals you do in a workout session. Keep a really good log of your workouts so that you can see your progress.

Have fun training! Looking forward to seeing you at the 15K. BTW, are you coming to the WISH meet on Saturday at Earl of Sandwich? I think we are meeting there at 4:30 or 5:00.

sap1227

Kristy--I really think you will be able to do this! I agree with the Intervals that Cam recommended above. 9 weeks is a long time and you will be amazed how much you will be able to do in those 9 weeks!

I probably won't be at EoS. My Mom is coming with me (she is doing the 15k too), and we each are bringing a friend also. As much as I would really like to meet you guys, I feel like I shouldn't desert them since we all only have a few days on our 'girls only weekend.'

BUT, maybe I can meet some of your who are also doing the DL 1/2. My DH is running it and I am his personal photographer/cheerleader! :teeth: Even though I am not going to particpate it would be fun to match the faces with the DISboard names.

Thanks again! Time to go cross train now. I just got the Leslie Sansone Walk/Jog 2 mile DVD - maybe I should do that today, so I feel a bit more confident about this running thing.

"Cam-- patient" :teeth: I am getting more and more excited with each passing day. We are only 7 weeks and 3 days out from the start line! :cool1: I think that once my solo trip is done at the end of this month (to see DD17's marching band lead off the Spectromagic parade!!!! :cheer2: :Pinkbounc  the Minnie will seem so real and so close.

So, how is everyone's training going? I did 8 miles last weekend almost on pace but with no cushion to allow for crowds, etc, so I will be working on pace over the next 7 weeks.

Cam - thanks for the countdown reminder!! It still seems far away because we're going on a family cruise next month, so I'm really concentrating on that.

TnTsParty- There is an AP discount available. Cam was kind enough to forward me the necessary form.

Disneyfanz04 - Congrats on making you ressies!!

Perfectmatch300 - Hope all works out with the knee and you're able to make it. :wizard:

Training has been going wonderfully up to this point. I did 7 miles in 1:07:53 last weekend. I am scheduled for an 8-miler on Saturday. Feeling Good! :woohoo:

Is there transportation from the resort to the start of the race--5K? I'm in the midst of signing up! Hotel (PC) and flights are set! :goodvibes

Am I nuts?!?

I'm an old bat whose going to start training. I've been going to Curves for awhile, but I need to get out and walk/run.

Count me in for the Minnie. My family is staying at the Swan until Sunday and then we move to the Boardwalk Villas to meet our friends and we are staying their for 11 nights. The last couple of weeks the training hasn't been going very well. On Monday I started a cleanse and I only ran once this week and barely for 5km. I'm getting a little frustrated but next week is a new week. The cleanse has really been kicking me in the butt (literally and figuratively) and I hoping next week will be better.

Good luck everyone.

Cheers

Hey everyone! I haven't posted in a while, but I am still doing Minnie! We will be at POR Saturday and Sunday. We are hoping to meet at EoS with you all - there will be 3 of us. It just depends how early we can get away from here on Saturday and get through the expo. DH may be doing a race here Sat. morning, and we have to get :dog: taken care of. ;) I can't wait to see you! Happy training to everyone!!! :thumbsup2

Lynnda-great to hear from you! That is so cool you are doing Danskin too. If I lived closer I would go for it but I cant be there for both weekends. I didnt know you were coming to DL too. I cant believe how many of us are going to be at both events. That is so exciting. Good luck on your tri training. Swimming is my weakest event also. See you soon!

By the way guys~ 7 weeks to go :cool1:

Hey everyone! I am planning on doing the minnie!! Did the 1/2 marathon in 2005 but couldn't do it this year because I had a baby in August and was so unprepared!!

We will be in WDW from Saturday till Friday staying at OKW. I am a little (well, a lot :p ) nervous about doing this run because I am so out of shape. Just started over again this week and I am hoping to stay motivated. I am able to keep the 16min pace set for the 1/2 but the 15 min keeps getting away from me.... :furious: Hopefully I can keep focused and get on the ball!!!
Knowing WISHers are there will definitely help!!!
Could use all the help I can get! LOL!! :yay:

Hi, everyone! Be sure to check the first post on this thread to be sure I have you listed, where you are staying, and whether you are joining the WISHers at Earl of Sandwich on Saturday at 4:30.
I am hoping the list of resorts will help for anyone who has to car pool. And I figured it would be good for us to have some idea of how many are joining us at EoS so that we can choose an area of tables with enough space for everyone.
Once I get back from my solo trip to WDW this weekend, I am really going to settle into a training routine and hope we can all support each other on that. Hard to believe it will be only 5 weeks away by then!

I will be at EOS, probably with my sister (who is not running the Minnie) and I am trying to convince my friend to do the Minnie with me (she is doing the training, so I think she will do it)

debm-

i havent received any confirmation/information either. So, i decided to email disney sports...the response i received was that they were not aware of any type of registration/confirmation mailing. that all of this information would be avialalbe for pick up at the expo - kinda strange....although i did check my credit card statement and noticed that the registration fee was charged. I'd also be interested to know if anyone else received something from disney

Well, I have decided that I am going to sign up for something, but I am still not sure if it will be the 5K or the 1 mile run. Either way, I'll be coming from home, and DH and I will be at EoS meet. I'm off to see about sign-up now and I am going to hope that either I van get my pace faster than I have been able to do lately ofr that they are not too strict about the pace requirements in the shorter events. I really want to be a part of this event. I wish I could do the 15K, but at this point for me there is no way that would be my best choice so I'll do what I can and enjoy it for what it is. I think my knees should be OK, but I'd better get some more walking in. I've been doing more bike and swim lately because it is easier on the knees. Time to get back on my feet and get them moving.

Hi there everyone! I am planning on the Doing the Minnie 5K.. am all signed up and am staying at POP from Thursday through the following Tuesday. I will also have a rental car and am going solo.. so, If anyone needs a lift to the start on Saturday.. I will have room for 4... I would also LOVE to join you all for the EOS meet... and plan to come out of lurkdom to get myself motivated. I was there cheering you all on this past January for the 1/2 and the whole.. I just didn't get myself ready in time and was soooooo disappointed in myself for not participating. But not this time!! I am there!!!

Thanks.. and looking forward to meeting everyone!

Okay, now I am definitely in a panic. I have not received any emails or confirmation on this. I registered by mail using my DVC discount and I think it was $28 and there is a charge on my credit card to Track Shack Foundation in Orlando Florida right about the time they should have processed my payment. So, I thought that was it. Does anyone else know for sure?

BTW, Hi, Kathy & welcome! I LOVE the picture in your siggie. What a great expression! :teeth:

Thanks for the welcomes! I got my confirmation when I signed up online.. I printed it out.. and part of it was barcoded and then the release signature portion was there also... I was going to send in my form with my AP/DVC discount but I figured at this late date i didn't want to take the chance of wasting time... and I figured the discount was so small for this one.. so I just bucked up and signed online...

Hey everyone! This is getting closer and closer and I am getting nervous but excited :woohoo:

I have been working hard getting back into shape since having my son in August last year, but progress is REALLY slow....so I am hoping I can at least do the minnie in the required time as to not get "swept up"!

I am going to try to be at EoS, but will need to bring my SO and son if that is alright...no girls weekend for me :p But I am really excited to know my "guys' will be at the finish waiting for me :yay:

Anyone know why they aren't running buses to the start line?

Thanks for the link. I mailed in our registrations with the AP discount form, so I hope everything is OK.

After reading the instructions, I am wishing I signed up for the 1 mile instead of the 5K. I'm thinking that with the way my knees have been maintaining the pace will be a challenge! Hopefully they will not be too strict with the 15 min mile requirement. I'll do my best to make it.

TiffJ
04-15-2006, 05:58 AM
Kamgen-I think they only run buses to the start line for the marathon which is a huge event. They dont do it for the 10k's & I'm pretty sure not for any of the other events. And yes you can bring SO & DS to EOS. Look forward to meeting you!!

kamgen
04-15-2006, 06:11 AM
Tiffj- thanks for the information. Not sure how I will get to the start. I don't want to make my SO get up and bring the baby out to drop me off...but sometimes the baby is up that early, so we will see! We are staying at SSR so it shouldn't be too difficult. Our resort plans are different now too...we are at SSR Friday-Sunday and BWV Sunday-Friday.....
We will most likely be at EoS- 2 adults and one infant ;)

Nancy- I am starting to feel like I should be doing the 5 not the 15!! I am not sure I can keep the pace, but I am going to give it my best!!! That is all we can do! :goodvibes

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

I have a little more hope for my pace today! I finally had a good wog - the first time I have done much of any jogging sinec my knee injections. It felt really good, and my pace was about 16 min which is way better than I have been doing lately. I think it would have been even better but I misread my watch at my first half mile mark and thought I was really slow. I got discouraged by that and slowed down a bit, then decided to just go for it anyway. Then at the 1.5 mile mark I realized my watch was counting DOWN because I had purposely set the timer instead of the stopwatch. I had done a 6 min half mile, not the 9 min I thought it took me! DUH!!! I plan to keep pushing my pace for the next 2 weeks, then give it my best shot on race day.

My sister and I will be doing the 1K. We could possibly do the 5K, but we'll start small. We'll be staying at ASMu and taking a cab to get to DTD that morning. I don't expect that we'll make the EOS meet, however if we're in DTD at that time, we'll stop by.

OK...I am really feeling nervous, but excited. I have a few questions...

If we arrive at MCO at 12:45pm on Friday, and get our rental car(we do not have to get our luggage as we are going to pack everything in our carry-on to save time) and go to the expo, how long are e going to be at the expo??? I want to make dinner ressies, and we are thinking about hitting Epcot as they are open late on Friday. Do we have to check-in to our hotel before we can go to EMH's???? I have never done a marathon, so can you tell me what should be in my suitcase?? What is important not to forget??? What should I wear as far as clothes go??? Please help a really nervous marathon newbie!!! THANKS!!!!!!

TiffJ
04-27-2006, 06:57 AM
I can help with some of your questions. Yes, you will have to check in before you can use EMH. THey use your resort key to identify who is eligible for it.

How long you are at the expo just depends. We had to wait in line for the 1/2 to get our chip & stuff so it took a while but when we went back later, there wasnt a line. But getting there as early as you are, it shouldnt be a problem to go to dinner. It took us about 1 hr to get thru the line and that was with it wrapped around the expo & back out to the parking lot, it actually moved pretty fast for how many people were there. I dont think there will be near that many people for the Minne.

As far as clothes for the race, wear as little as possible. It will be HOT! You will need race shoes, shorts, top, socks, gu or shot blocks if you carry them, sunscreen. Bring whatever you've been used to training in.

keenercam
04-27-2006, 09:03 AM
Wow, everyone! I am getting so psyched about seeing everyone in just 9 days! I leave a week from tomorrow. Rhonda and I will arrive separately at MCO about 8:30pm Friday and then go to check in at SSR. We are planning to head to PI that night and hopefully, the Adventurers Club. So, if there are any WISHers around that night that want to join us for a "Kungaloosh" we'd love to see you.

D. -- sorry you wont' be joining us at EoS, but what an amazing, momentous event to have four generations in one place at one time. Enjoy! And take LOTS of pix!

Disneyfanz04 -- Tiff has hit all the high-lights for packing, I think. I would suggest some heavy duty sunscreen for the back of your calves and for your face. Especially when you are sweating and your face is salty, it is easy to get a nasty burn. I'd also suggest sunglasses or a visor. I also put sport bra, ponytail holder, garmin, fanny pack/water bottle, powerade on my list. There will be plenty of water on the course, but I will need powerade and there is only one kind I can tolerate, so I always bring my own.

disneyfanz04
04-27-2006, 10:59 AM
Thanks for the answers...so do you carry the bottle of powerade, or do you put it in your fanny pack??? Does the fanny pack bother you when you are running/walking??? What is garmin??? Thanks again for answering all my questions!!! :)

keenercam
04-27-2006, 11:20 AM
Thanks for the answers...so do you carry the bottle of powerade, or do you put it in your fanny pack??? Does the fanny pack bother you when you are running/walking??? What is garmin??? Thanks again for answering all my questions!!! :)

I have a fanny pack that holds a 20 oz. bottle of water on a slant in the small of my back. I fill the bottle with 1/2 water and 1/2 orange powerade (the only electrolyte beverage my stomach can tolerate) and put it in the fridge the night before the race. Disney was really good during the 1/2 about having lots of drink stations, but I really didn't want to try anything new on race day, so I brought my own.

I use the fanny pack every time I train with a long walk/jog ("wog"), so I am very used to it. It doesn't chafe and it has a pouch that is big enough for a power bar, some sport jelly beans, kleenex, lip balm, my camera and my cell phone. It is absolutely perfect and I LOVE having everything at hand.

I think the thing I learned over the course of training last year was not to do anything new on race day. No new shoes, no new socks, no different tee shirt, no cute new shorts, etc. It just seems like over a distance something new could chafe or rub or just annoy me. So, my plan is to use whatever I am most comfortable with.

Oh, on your last question. A garmin is the brand name of a wrist watch type item that keeps track of time and pace and distance. I got it last July and have used it on every outdoor training session I have done, so that I could keep track of my progress. A watch is perfectly fine if you want to have some idea of how well you are keeping pace.

Feel free to ask any more questions. It is all making me very psyched for the event! :cool1: :Pinkbounc

Kristi1357
04-27-2006, 11:49 AM
I am starting to get really excited too - and nervous as all heck! This is my first race ever.

I am also going to wear a fanny pack - I am going to need to bring a disposable camera for pics with the characters. At the very least, I need to have my rescue inhaler on me during the race. And knowing DH, he'll be calling me on my cell from NH during the race. :) So I better bring that. Nevermind, the phone is indispensable during the race to meet up with my family/friends. Chad hates being left out of anything! And me going to Disney without him is killing him!

I still think it's quite the riot when I am out walking/running - fanny pack, hat, sunglasses, mp3 player on my waist, garmin on my wrist. All this for a "free" sport - ha!

I'll keep in mind that you will be at PI on Friday night, Cam. We are arriving late Thursday and have no specific plans Friday other than registering and hitting some parks. If we show up, I'm a redhead - you can't miss me! I still haven't called to confirm our registration - I have to remember to do that tomorrow at work!

In a mere WEEK we'll be on a plane to WDW for the Minnie!!! I am getting so psyched also. However, I am suffering with a terrible chest cold and I am anxious and nervous about kicking it before I leave. Any suggestions or just some :wizard: would be really appreciated.

CAM - great answers!! I remember your list from the marathon in January and I had printed it out as a checklist for packing. It worked like a charm :)
DH and I aren't getting into MCO until 10:00 p.m. on Friday and then we have to check in at the Peabody, so most likely we won't make it over to PI. However, I am looking forward to seeing everyone at EOS on Saturday!!

Happy training to all this weekend :cheer2:

Thanks for the list Cam!
I am so nervous....we were out of town for a week and I got NO workouts in....and the past two days, my stomach has been killing me, so not much activity! :sad2: I am worried I won't make it!! :rolleyes2
But, I am going to try.....I will just do my best and hope I can maintain the pace....so far I have not gone the total 9.3 miles at that pace....but I will just have faith that I can make it....

Personally, I usually don't carry much with me...I found in the 1/2 that things were too distracting. But we will see.....

Are we wearing certain colors or WISH identifying objects???

Can't wait to see you all! :cheer2:

Who's doing which race? It sounds like most of you are doing the 15K on Sunday - I'm only doing the 5K on Sat. I want to know who I'm looking for!

Cam - I LOVE your list! Since it's my first race ever too, it should be a lot of help, although I don't think I'm going to need as much for a 5K as for the 15K. And I haven't trained with anything other than my cell phone on occasion, but I'm also not planning on much of a pace since I'm still mostly injured.

Cam-I'm so bummed. I don't have time for EOS and now I'll miss an opportunity for Adventureer's Club. I love the Adventurer's Club, but can never get anyone to drag along with me. I'll be turning in early Friday night for the 5K.

Disneybelle -- If you are going to the post-race celebration Sunday night, we might end up seeing you there. We have a 9:15 ADR for O'Hana's (gotta see WISHES even if we aren't going to the MK) and then heading over to Adventurer's Club which may be my last visit ever. I have heard it is closing and I won't be back until Marathon Weekend 2007 - -no idea if it will still be open then.

Kamy -- I know what you mean. I haven't gone 9.3 since the 1/2 and the longest workout I have done since then was close to 8. Worse, I know my hip can totally derail my pacing effort.

Jackie -- What an exciting first race for you! And don't say "only the 5K" -- look around you in real life and count how many people you know have done a 5K or longer event. It is an awesome acomplishment. I remember my first one in March 2005 and LOVE having that "first 5K" memory. Yours will be really awesome for having done it in WDW!!!

Glad you like the list. If I were doing the 5K, I'd just rely on the water stops and probably wouldn't carry the powerade/water mix. I also would only take the sport jelly beans and not the power bar. I don't think I'd take an MP3 player, either, since I think I would spend most of my time looking around and enjoying the atmosphere, anyway. Everything else, I'd still probably carry.

Now who would forget to put their chip on their shoe :teeth:

We'll be coming up Sat night. Hope to leave here by 4pm, so that puts us in Orlando by 6pm. I'll be wearing my lime green WISH shirt. It has chimera on the front and mel on the back so please say hi if you see me since I'll miss you guys at EOS!

I'm definitely toning it down for this race...just haven't trained as well as I did for the half. DD13 and I did W3/R2 for 5 miles then walked the rest and managed a 14:34 pace, so I think we'll be okay! I'd like to do a good, solid 5 miles then have time to take pictures once we get to MGM and EPCOT.

I'm hoping to make this a yearly 'girls' weekend tradition. We'll see y'all there!

I'm getting a bit nervous about this weekend! It's almost here! A few questions for those that have done it before. I just like to know what to expect. Do people talk to you? I mean, if we are in our 6th mile, pretty tired (because I've never done 15K in my life) and someone else is doing about my same pace. Will people chit chat or is everyone wearing headphones? Also someone mentioned taking Motrin before the race? I've never done that before I run either. Should I? I am a bit worried I will get a headache--is taking Motrin a good idea or not if I've never done it when running? Also, I really don't think I want to carry any extra weight--ie phone, camera. Is that OK or will I miss a lot? And right now I can do 4 miles under 11 minute miles but I know I will slow down a bit that last half--and especially if I walk some. When does the sweeper come along? Do we need to be worried constantly or is it pretty obviously that you are the last person and "need a lift." Thanks for all the help if anyone has the answers!! Happy last week of training. I'm cramming!

Another 5K wogger here! We do have to find a way to meet up that AM.

I will also be at the Expo early Fri. We will be stopping there on our way home from Sarasota, but not staying long as I want to get home for a pre-race rest day.

I am not sure of my shirt yet as I am still watching the weather, but I am expecting it to be HOT!!!! All the local stations are saying temps in the 90's for Thurs & Fri, no reports yet for the weekend.

I do have a lime green DIS button that I can wear, and maybe I can convince DH to wear his, too.

deb- I expect it will be a VERY friendly, very chatty group. At the 1/2 we talked to different people all along the way. Great atmosphere, very fun race. Everyone is there to have a good time & they all love Disney! I took ibuprofen before the race to help with my ankles. As long as you are used to taking Motrin you should be fine, just dont try anything new. Your body may not like it. They told us ahead of time the sweep points for the 1/2 but I havent see where they are for this race so no answer for you there. There will be alot of walkers there, don't worry about walking a good bit of the race, just enjoy the whole experience. I carried a disposable camera & took pics of me & mom with the characters along the way. It was fun to have pics of the actual race stuff, but not everyone did that. Good luck!

Nancy-yes, I am already dreading the heat! :sunny:

kamgen- :wizard: hope you get feeling better soon! We are doing a girls weekend so we dont have a cheer squad for this race.

Happy Monday!!

Holy hotness predicted for the weekend :sunny: Being a northern NY'er, I am in for quite a shock. Can any Floridians comment on the humidity levels? I was planning on wearing my WISH shirt but now I may just be wearing a long sports bra top.

DH and I both did our last 9 mile training runs yesterday, so we're both feeling fine. We also plan on taking it easy for the race and just having a great time. I hope everyone enjoys the taper this week and has safe travels to WDW.

Tiff - It is either 4:00 or 4:30 for EOS.

debm - it should be a very social race. I have heard it's better to take Tylenol as opposed to ibuprofen pre-race.

Mel - I'll look for you :)

Kamgen - No cheering squad for dh and I. They definitely do help when you need a little lift. I hope you feel better real soon.

Hi, everyone! I have a crazy week at work before I leave mid-day Friday, so I wanted to at least touch base on a few things.

I believe we all agreed to meet at Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney at 4:30. Rhonda and I will be coming from 2:00 tea at the Grand Floridian, so I am not sure if we will be there right at 4:30, but will look forward to seeing you all as soon as possible. Maybe the earlier people can find a bunch of tables together to save some space for the late arrivals.

For anyone that is interested -- there is a 12 or 12:30 talk at the expo that is a review of the race course for the 15K and last-minute race tips. We went to this talk for the 1/2 and it was very helpful -- a review of locations for water, powerade, port-a-potties, some racer etitquette stuff, etc.

Mel -- I still think it is interesting that I hadn't remembered to put the chip on my list for the 1/2 and only remembered because I was going through our race bag the night before and found it in there. Of course, we immediately put them on our shoes and as soon as I got home, I added it to my "night before" event reminder list.

By the way, I finally found a top I like -- long enough to cover my bulges in bike shorts but not a dark color. It is wicking material and I found it at EMS on the men's rack -- a salmon colored oversized tee shirt. I will probably have a lime green ribbon on my race number, and I have a lime green ponytail holder as the zipper pull on my fanny pack. Hopefully, we will see a lot of WISHers on the course.

Is anyone else even a little worried about the heat predicted for SUnday's Minnie? I live in New England so that "hottest" it has been here on a run for me is like mid-60s. I MELT in the heat and am worried about Sunday.

Any good pointers out there for anyone?

Hey everyone! Thanks for the get well wishes. I made a dr appt for tomorrow just to make sure things are okay...just feeling crappy for days and days...yuck! :guilty:

debm- oh, chatty..yes, I will chat...I will be alone and need to chat! ;) I found it helpful in the 1/2 to have people to talk to and keep you going...I don't wear headphones so hopefully there will be lots of chatty folks out there!

Cam- I found a shirt I liked too! Got it at Target! It is Hot Pink and black tank style and besides the fact that the black is going to be HOT :furious: I like the way it fits and feels.
Target also has really nice racerback Champion sports bras in ALL sizes, so that was a plus. Going to wear my old black biker style shorts so no lime green here...was going to do something creative with the shirt, but with not feeling well, opted not too....
I am hoping to hit the race talk at the Expo too!

I cannot believe it is this weekend! And for all you who have no cheering section, my man and my little man (LOL!) will be there! :cheer2:

Because the the 15K is at 6:30 in the morning, the heat and humidity should not be a problem until at least 10. We'll be done by then!! :yay: It will be warmer than 60, but not stifling, sticky hot for the race. The low is predicted to be 66, so it should be great. right, Mel?
debm DON'T DO ANYTHING NEW ON RACE DAY! No new shoes, clothes, food. NOTHING If you haven't been training with it, don't do it on the big day. You still have this week to try the ibprofen/Motrin if it is a real concern for you, right? This is the first year for the Minnie, so we don't know what to expect along the route as far as encouragement/entertainment on the sidelines..but it's DISNEY! You might want to rethink a disposable camera..Since this is a Women's event, I'm sure there will be talkers!! :lmao: You can do 4 miles in under 11 min/mile and you are worried about being swept??!!! I'll wave at you as you pass me plodding along (praying that I am..) at a 15 min/mile!! :rotfl2: As far as "the sweeper coming along", There will be pick up points along the course to transport you to the finish line if you are not able to maintain the 15 minute per mile pace.. Someone else explained that the pace clock starts when the last person crosses the start. So, those up front or in the middle really have a "cushion" in their pacing. I'm thinking how sad for that person who is LAST to start with because they knew they weren't fast and then the fast people get extra time! :rotfl: Just remember our mantra DFL>DNF>>DNS

Cam Is that Expo talk on Saturday? Somebody take notes and tell us at the meet! High tea!! How loverly!! :tink:

MDM, for those participating in the 5K and the 15K, when you pick up your race packet at the Expo, it will include a timing chip. I rented one at the CCC 10K. It's about the size of a quarter and you thread your shoelaces on one shoe through it when you tie your laces. It will electronically register your true start time when you step on the mat that will be stretched across the start and your finish time when you step on the mat stretched across the finish line. Sometimes you'll hear people refer to "clock time" and "chip time." Because everyone doesn't start at the same time, the start people usually will say, "Look at the clock when you cross the start, so you'll know how much time to take off from the time posted at the finish line."

Check out Championship Chip's website for a picture.

When you really get into running and doing events. you can buy your own chip. They come in all kinds of designs...even a Mickey Mouse one!! Hope this helps! :sunny: Anne

Anne -- Yes, the talk is on Saturday. I'd bet they are doing it on Friday, too, but since I wasn't going to be there that day, I didn't look at the schedule.

Now, everyone who is going to the Expo on Friday -- don't buy up all the good stuff! :teeth:

Kamy -- So glad you found a shirt you like. I really needed something that would cover my hips. Since I have lost weight my body shape from the waist down is actually scary and nothing I do seems to help. I now look like about 50 pounds of blob got stuck on me in random places around my hips and upper thighs. SO very ugly. So, while I insist on the comfort of bike shorts, I won't subject anyone else to what I look like in them!

WOW!! I am nearly done this work day, meaning I have only about 3.5 more to get through!

For those of you who don't have a cheering section, DD and her friend will be on the sidelines watching for all DISers, so if total strangers yell at you, it may be them! We're hoping to make EoS - we're attempting to squeeze all 4 parks into Friday and Saturday in addition to the 5K, so I may have to leave them somewhere Saturday to meet up with you guys, and then we have an ADR at Alfredo's Saturday night @ 7:30; the schedule is getting a little tight! But this may be our only trip for the next year, so we're trying to hit everybody's favorites and the new stuff (EE, Soarin') while we're there.

And yes, I'll be chatting - having never run a 5K before, I have absolutely no idea what to expect but will probably be totally awestruck! And I'll definitely be walking part of the way so I'll be easy to talk to - though DD says I HAVE to run at the finish line.

I can't believe it's actually almost here! :bounce: See everyone Saturday!

OMG - I can't believe it's already here! I am so excited & scared to death at the same time!

We fly in Thursday night, so I will try not to buy up all the stuff at the Expo. :teeth: My plan is to get our numbers Friday morning, then do park stuff the rest of the day Friday & Saturday. Sunday night we are doing Jelly Rolls, then fly home Monday morning.

I still haven't called to confirm our registrations. Neither my mom or me got anything from WWOS or anyone else regarding the Minnie. Is there something we should have in hand to bring to the Expo? I know DH always has something for the full in January. :confused3 I guess I better get calling today - Thursday's flight is going to be here before I know it!

I did my longest wog Saturday, an 8 miler - so I am now pretty confident I will finish and beat the dreaded sweeper bus.

Sunday morning, I will be the pale redhead with her Mom. I will be wearing a white tank top with running shorts and a white hat. Oh, and you won't be able to miss my WDW fanny pack! I am going to look like such a dork! But I *need* my disposable camera, cell phone and my inhaler. Oh well! I just finished watching the local weather. While it is still a little early, they are now saying 20% chance of rain on Sat, and up to 40% on Sun. Temps high will be low 90's with AM lows in the mid 60's. Should be fairly cool for here in the AM, but it may be more humid than the weather we have been having. Thanks to everyone who's not racing for all the support. I'm getting teary eyed just reading everyone's posts - imagine what I'm going to do when I cross the finish line. I don't WANT pictures of me then!

See everyone Sat!

Geez, packing! Guess I should get on that, huh?

It's official. I will be attending Minnie Weekend as a spectator. The podiatrist will not release me to do it. It's for the best, I have finally got to a point where she will let me ease back into slow walking realizing my normal daily walking is considered exercise by alot of people.

Spent last weekend in Tampa and St Pete's with Lynne. Walked around more than usual without too much additional foot pain. I did end up with sore shins though from walking much more than I am used to.

Hope to meet everyone at EoS on Sat.

Hey everyone! This is just a quick note before I run to the pool. I can't wait to see you all on Saturday!!! :cool1: I'll try to post a bit more and catch up this afternoon.

Several of you were mentioning what you would be wearing. I just did a design that I will iron on a tank top. I wanted to post it in case any of you wanted to use it. You can right-click on it to save it - it is in JPEG. Then just print it on to iron-on paper and iron it to any shirt (wash and dry the shirt first with NO fabric softener.) Sorry this is so late - I've been working on other designs, and finally got this one done. Special thanks to Kate (Julia & Nick's Mom on the design board) for the Minnie squares. My tank is red, and I have purple-ish/blue shorts, so please chat/wave if you see me! ;) And yes, I know that doesn't match, but I really like those shorts for running/walking and can't find any more... :lmao:

And again thanks to Julia & Nick's Mom for the Minnie picture. ;)

Lynnda-that shirt design is great. I made shirts for me & my support team for the 1/2 & we loved them. I still wear it. It worked great going on a wal mart $5 t shirt. I may do this to wear for Sat. EOS

2 days from right now I will be checking into the Nashville airport (and very sleepy because its 2 hrs away) So much to get done before then. My 2 friends that are coming with me are spending the night Thur since we have to leave so early & I live closer to the interstate so I also have to get their beds ready.

Kathy-sorry you wont get to do the race, but it will be good to see you. Better to listen to the DR so you can still race in the future.

Jackie-you will have plenty of people to talk to if DH wants to go on ahead. You will have a blast.

I cant wait to see you guys Saturday!!!!!!

Hey everyone! I am so excited...only a few days left! But my nerves are in high gear....oh man, I hope I finish! ;)

Lynnda- I LOVE the design...I am going to try and get a shirt done and wear this instead of the one I bought....I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a white sleevless T it would work great on! Just don't know if I have time, so we will see!

I am really looking forward to meeting everyone Sat! I might be the only one at our EoS meet pushing a stroller!

Safe travels to all!

Thanks ya'll!!! I use the Avery inkjet iron-on paper - you can get it at Wal-Mart and Target. You can use the light paper for white shirts - it is a little thinner, and you will only see the design - the rest is clear. However, you do have to reverse the design. If your printer won't do that, let me know and I can flip it for you and email or pm it.

I am using the paper for dark shirts since I have a red tank - the iron-on is thicker, but lasts longer when you wash it. Any space on the paper that is not printed will transfer white, so you have to trim carefully around the design. NOTE - the dark paper does NOT need to be flipped. There are LOTS of tips and instructions on the Creative DISigns board (under Just for Fun). I think there is actually a thread close to the top with just tips for how to iron.

I also just got some paper from our new AC Moore. (LOVE this store!!!) :thumbsup2 I will experiment on some of DS's shirts before I do my tank. I'll try to do them this afternoon and let you know how that paper is.

Just got back from my swim with the tri instructor. I'm wiped out!!! ;) I'm heading to church now to get some work done. I'll check in later! :teeth:

Lynnda,
You have created total havoc in my life! I was almost packed, saw your design and thought I had to have a shirt with the design, went to the store at 9:00 tonight to get a cool tank top so DH could do the transfer tomorrow AM while I'm at work (we leave for WDW at noon), bought 2 different tanks (one just because it matched the shorts I already had and was on sale), came home and decided I like the matching tank better and maybe I won't do the transfer after all! DH and DD think I've lost my mind, and I guess they're probably right. Now I'm wishing I'd just bought a plain white t-shirt and made a shirt for EoS, but if I suggest that to DH he'll probably leave! So I'll be the one in the perfectly matched white/lime green tank and shorts with an imaginary WISH logo...

You all make me laugh!!!! :lmao: I certainly didn't mean to wreak havoc for anyone. I'll definitely try to plan better for next time. Hmmmm... I guess I should start some designs now for the DL 1/2.... :teeth:

Kamgen - yes, for the light/white transfer paper you need to flip the design backwards. Read the instructions on your paper, but all the light paper brands I have seen say to do this. If your printer won't (like mine...) let me know and I can do it in the design program. Actually, give me a few minutes and I'll post a reverse of both designs for anyone who wants them. Again, this is only for the LIGHT/WHITE transfer paper. The dark paper is printed just as you want it shown.

I know we are a little short on time... sorry!!!! I'm so glad you like the designs, though!!! :goodvibes

I'm getting soooo excited!!! I can't believe tomorrow is Thursday! DH is doing a local 5K on Saturday morning, then we will head over. We are TRYING to get to EOS, but I'm getting very nervous with all the fires around here. It seems like I-95 and the Beachline are closing every day. It took my sister 2 hours to get to work this morning (it should take 25 minutes.) Ugh!!! So... we will get to downtown disney as soon as we can check-in at the hotel and get by the expo. Even if we're late, we'll stop by to see if you all are still there. If not, I'll see you on Sunday! Yippeee!!!

I'm reporting in from the 5K and EOS meet!

The good news is that I finished the 5K - well above the 15 min time limit, but did not get swept. It was also a personal best for me at the 6K distance. I did go faster on a 2 mile run last Nov, but it was a decent inprovement for me on my overall 5K time. The best part - I WAS NOT LAST!!!!!   Not overall, not in my age group!

Here's what I did. For me, it was good. I want to do better.

Official Time Chip Time Pace
55:57 55:38 17:54.2

The bad news - BLISTERS!!!!! I wore my favorite, tried-and-true shoes and socks. Never had a problem with them before. At about the 1.5 mile mark today, the blisters started. Ugh! The little toes on both my feet are big, ugly blisters that wrap around all the way under my toes.

DH did the race with me, but we decided he would go on ahead of me to see how he would do. He did very well. He walked the whole course and finished in 41 min. He was second in his age group. (I'm not supposed to say that there were only 2 men in his age group!) :teeth: He said he wished he knew that because his time was fairly close to the other man and he thought he could have beaten him if he knew he was so close! I didn't care. I was proud of him anyway!

TheK course was very pretty. The only part we did not like was the golf cart path that sloped fairly steeply to one side. DH and I plan to go back as soon as my blisters will allow and walk the course a little more slowly to enjoy the view.

The big problem of the day was that the tee shirt distribution volunteers started off the day giving 2 tee shirts to each participant after the race! That meant that they ran out of shirts about halfway through! They took our names and promised to mail us our shirts, but, needless to say, I was very disappointed. I had expected to get my shirt on Fri at the Expo, but they said they would have them on Sat. To not get them after the race due to a communications breakdown like that did not make me happy. They did ask over the PA system for people who got 2 shirts to please return one, but very few people did that. Many of them had already left the area.

After the race we went to Boma for breakfast, and some time at AKL. We then returned to DD and took a boat ride to POR where we walked (in my case, hobbled!) around the resort for a while before heading back to DD for the EOS meet. It was great to see so many WISHers there. We had a great time at the meet!

After the meet we had planned to head over to Epcot, but DH and I both weere really tired, so we headed back home instead. My feet thought that was a really good idea!

I am home, too! It was so nice to meet so many of you at EOS yesterday. The offical stats are not up yet, but if I remeber correctly it was 2 15 when I we finished. I can not wait to see the offical times. I thought it was a nice course, the beginning was a bit boring, but once we finally got to MGM it was very nice!

Hey all! :wave2: It was great seeing so many of you during the race (and waiting for us at the finish!) :teeth: We didn't make it to EoS until 6:30 (DS wasn't cooperating very well...), and I didn't see anyone that looked like a Wisher - I'm sorry I didn't get to meet the rest of you!

Christy - I think I was behind you and another Wisher from the time we came out of MGM. I saw two runners with green bows, and one had a bright lime green shirt. I never could catch up, but I finished 2:16 - right behind you.

I did try to get pictures of several wishers to hopefully find out who I was behind - I'll post an album once they are downloaded. :thumbsup2

Christy, thanks for asking. My feet are better today, although I am still sporting my very purple "badges of honor" today, they are far less painful. I expect I will be able to put on shoes and finally head off to Epcot tonight to see Paul Revere & the Raiders, since we never made it there Sat.

Lynnda, sorry we missed you at EOS. We must have been leaving just about the time you arrived. Glad you had a good race. Hope the fires in your area are under control. Fires scare me far more than hurricane season does!

I got 2 from the 1 mile walk and am willing to give away both. I have a large and a small. But they are cotton and i have been spoiled by the synthetic ones for moisture transfer.
