Ariel thought we were related lol. I didn't have much time to chat with her though because the obnoxious parents behind me kept practically shoving their daughter into the area and the CMs were getting annoyed.

Last time we went, we treated our Sunday like a scavenger hunt for characters. My favorite character, by far, is Jack...
As I'm sure you guys are well aware, our dear Captain does not usually play nice in front of the camera and has walked off right before the you pose to take the shot. And that's what makes him the best: so completely in character!
My favorite picture is this, as our minds happened to work in the same way. At 3, we were both looking straight at the camera. At 2, he looked at me out of the side of his eyes. At 1, I countered by doing the same. The result? Two mistrustful pirates looking at each other out of the corners of their eyes.

Chip got mad at me for the same thing. :)
I had the Evil Queen sneering at me once when by chance I had only princess pins on my lanyard. She told me totally in character I couldn't get a photo with her "wearing these".
So I patted my pin bag, told her: "I keep the good stuff safe" and whispered "there's so many people who don't know what's good and they'll only trade for princesses."
That pleased her and I was told "you can get as much photos with me as you want." :lmao:

For the record, who is who?
Is it Chip that has the teeth apart, or Dale?
PNWmom

The easiest way to tell them apart is to look at their noses. Dale has a larger red nose, Chip has a small black nose (think chocolate chip).

Hi, I have just found the boards and this thread and I have spent a wonderful hour or so looking at the pictures of all your lovely families.
There are some wonderful shots, but my favourite thing of all is how happy everyone looks all the time, I love how the characters interact with the kids and adults, what an amazing job they do.
My son and I are going in 3 months and I definately want to do a character breakie to ensure we see some, but any tips for finding other characters?
Thanks and once again, love all the pictures.

Definitely take him to ToonTown, as there are always characters there, and he will love interacting with all the talking manholes and mailboxes and things in ToonTown. Take him into Mickey's house and at the very end, he will get to meet Mickey 'on the set' of a movie Mickey is filming and take a picture. He can also go into Minnie's House and other character houses as well, and Donald's boat. As for characters in other spots, Main Street City Hall used to give you a list of where to find characters at certain times - I am not certain if they still do that or not. It would be worth it to check with City Hall. They WILL give you a list of where all the pressed penny machines are throughout DLR, so if your little one likes pressed pennies, that is a good thing to know to save time looking for them. There are usually characters from Pooh around the Pooh ride, posing for pictures. If you go to Pirate's Lair (Tom Sawyer's Island), Jack Sparrow is over there. Those are just some ideas off the top of my head. You will have the good fortune of seeing the characters in all their holiday wardrobe, so that is fun too!
Oh, and make sure you look for Hidden Mickeys. There is a book on Hidden Mickeys in DLR - you can get it on Amazon before your trip - and then you can point them out to your son or have him point them out to you. After you spot the ones in the book, you will begin to realize that there are MANY of them all throughout the resort that are NOT in the book (the Cast members like to keep them secret and let people find them!).

Sherry_E had some great tips, and I also wanted to add that characters are at the Sun Plaza at DCA quite often. I usually see Mickey and/or Minnie, Pluto, and I've seen Stitch, Goofy, and Max there as well. And since crowds are typically lower at DCA, you won't have to wait in line as long. I even waited for Flik and Atta by Bug's Land once in February and we spent at least 10 minutes with them as there was no one else waiting! :goodvibes

Thank you, Alison, for throwing that in! I always tend to forget that the characters visit DCA as well!! I always associate them mainly with DL and the character meals in my mind, but DCA would be a good idea to find characters (reguar ones and more unusual ones) in different outfits and not have to deal with as many people waiting in line! I always have to remind myself - yes, Mickey CAN be in two places/parks at the same time (sometimes MORE than two!)!!

You will definitely find Tigger and Eeyore by the Pooh ride in DL, but they show up other places too. See if you can check with Main Street City Hall on whether or not they still give out the list/'schedule' of where the characters will be on a given day. That would be helpful as a guideline!
I am excited for you too because you will be going to DL/DCA around Christmas and that is the BEST time to see DL - in December, when all the holiday stuff is up and Small World and Haunted Mansion have their holiday overlays! It is definitely an extra magical time of year!
Try using Photopass - this way you will get lots of photos taken of your son and you together, and they seem to come out very well!

I have looked at the Photopass stuff and seems great, especially as I want pictures of us together on our Mum and Son trip. Will they take pics with my camera too? would be better than having to pay for the cds I think.....
I hadn't even realised it would be so christmassy, but now I can't wait, is Santa there at all? Want to visit him? I love Christmas and now the thought of Christmas and Disney all rolled into one is just amazing!! :santa:
Thanks again, and will stop hijacknig the thread with non-picture related comments. Thanks

They will take photos with your camera, too. But to have them take some and give you a Photopass card is a good backup just in case something goes wrong with your camera (hope not, but you never know!), and also you can view the pictures later and just buy whichever one you want if you don't want the whole CD. Or don't buy any! Santa is in a few different places - he makes an appearance daily at the GCH (not sure of the times) and a 'beach Santa' is in DCA, and there is another one somewhere too. Can't recall.

My DH with Cruella. I have told the story how we had our 3 year old grandson with us. We have two Dalmatians; and I told him to tell Cruella that...he did and she told him she wanted to borrow them for the weekend! He ran over to his stroller as fast as his little legs would carry him! He did not like the characters with no masks on for some reason! THEY scared him! :scared1: That is why he would not have his picture taken with her...but my DH was very willing! :lmao:

My oldest grandson meeting Captain Hook. pirate: (One of GRANDMA'S favorites!) :lovestruc
We were waiting to see him in a line, but when we got very near the front, Captain Hook started to leave. My grandson yelled, "Captain Hook! Wait! Puh-leeze!" :sad1: And Captain Hook DID turn around and come back! He came over to Dylan and shook his hand and showed him his hook and his knife. My grandson was thrilled and we were very grateful for a Captain Hook with a big heart! I know he was probably really hot and tired, but he knew a little 3 year old would be heartbroken if he did not say "Hi."

Care Bear is kind of a code name for that CM who plays Alice and also Wendy.
Since the real names of those portraying characters can't be used, sometimes these unofficial nicknames are.

Oh yes, I know the pins were for the 50th anniversary, there was a lot of decorartions and things to commemorate it. :cheer2: I loved the decorations and everything. :)

Great pics everyone!!! I hadn't looked through this whole thread until today!
We were on the Island on out trip in Sept 07, and hoping to see Jack! Much to our luck, he showed up :) Our kids aren't terribly interested in characters, EXCEPT him. They both sat watching him quietly, not expecting (or asking for) any interaction
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g240/famograham/DSC_0386.jpg
My daughter was positively SMITTEN!
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g240/famograham/DSC_0385.jpg
Which I guess Jack appreciated...because it caused him to spend a great deal of special attention on them!!!! HEEEEEEE!
He took my daughter's little compass...teasing her...and then he got my son to lead him through the cave nearby. There's even one pic of him swishing away another little girl (chef hat, yellow shirt). Not nice for her....but VERY special for us, and so in character for Jack!

It is still a great picture, even with the closed eyes (oh how often I have done that:sad2: )!!! You are right - it IS rare to get those three in a photo together! They are usually nowhere near each other! All you need is the White Rabbit! All the folks behind you seem to be fascinated by the scene in front of them. They look like they are waiting to swoop in for their photo op!

That's Sweet Hatter and Demure Alice (who was in another thread as friends with Wendy and Tinkerbell).
During peak periods, it hasn't been that uncommon to see the Queen of Hearts with them, often joining Alice & Hatter for Musical Chairs.
Alice and the Mad Hatter were signing autographs near City Hall on... November 4 I think. Yeah, must have been November 4 because that was the day I had that ECV.
That's also where the background crowd comes from, there was no really organised line and everyone was hanging around.
I didn't even notice the Queen of Hearts being there, she sneaked up on me. :rotfl:

Oh Sherry, I LOVED the old Goofy's Kitchen!!! Even though it was smaller, it felt more friendlier for some reason. Maybe it was the character filled walls. I never went during Christmas, but it looked really cool and the characters look so happy w/ their holiday cheer!
I also noticed that you have the old skool Santa Mickey hats w/ the plastic ears. I have a pair too! I haven't worn it since I wear my Santa Stitch hat, but it's nice to remember what the ears were like before the nice fuzzy ones. I even saw a lady wear them in the parks last week! Good times.

I loved the old GK as well as the old Disneyland Hotel in general!! I miss a lot of the things DLH used to have. I posted two pictures taken at the old Candy Cane Lane at the DLH back in the '90s over on the Favorite Holiday Photo thread - don't know if you saw them. That's right - they had character-filled walls at the old GK! I did kind of like that location better than this current one, for some reason, but I am happy it is still there and they didn't get rid of it!
Yes, we had the old Santa Mickey ears that were not fuzzy. We also got Reindeer Mickey ears, and I don't think they sell those anymore at DLR. Could be wrong, but I didn't see any last year in December! They were kind of scarce even when we bought them in 1994 or whenever. And I have these great Mickey earmuffs, which have big Mickey heads over each ear, and those were HARD to get back in 1991, and are no longer sold in that version. I have to dig out a picture with the earmuffs and the reindeer Mouse ears! All the old DLR headgear is gone!!

Sherry you're smile is so captivating, I love it !!!
At first, when I read your comment, I was thinking, 'Oh, there must be another Sherry on here that I skipped over!' Then I realized you meant me! Thank you!:goodvibes  That's such a nice compliment! I don't think 'captivating' has ever been used in reference to me! I appreciate that a lot! I think that was the fun and joy of the DLR trip shining through in the pictures! I know - as most women are - I was always very hard on myself in pictures in the past. Years ago, I would look at myself in photos and say, "Ugh! I look constipated! I have consti-face!!!":rotfl: Now, I can look back and say, "Oh, that one was pretty good!" or "Oh! Wish I looked like that now!" (I think all women do that to themselves at one point or another!) I was told by some people in the distant past that I had an "infectious" or "contagious" smile, and those were compliments, but I didn't like the words "contagious" or "infectious." Sounds like the Ebola virus. Now, if they had said "captivating," I might have accepted that!!!:goodvibes :lmao:  Thanks again, Jas!
By the way, you should see my hideous AP picture. Somehow, the lighting in that bank is not flattering. It is a grainy, gray photo, but I look like I am about 107 years old, and I look like I have black tar between my teeth because of the weird shading in the picture! Every time I had to whip that AP out for discounts, I felt like grinning really wide at the waiter or waitress and saying, "Look! See? My teeth are clean! No black tar anywhere! And I am not 107 years old!":rotfl: :rotfl: Too funny!

theres a bit of a story behind the real Surfin' Stitch but I thought I would post here :) Back in 2006 I had just gotten myself a stitch stuffie from my parents and found out we were going to disneyland! It was the first time stitch was there and i decided to take my stuffed one with some clothes and carry him around, long story short the characters LOVED him and each time I go "Surfin' Stitch" (as he was deemed by the cast members) accompanies me with a different outfit each day and goes around the park and takes pictures (and gets kidnapped, minnie, stitch and eeyore tried to snatch him last year ;D) with all the characters :) We are going back this valentines day to get some pictures with Mickey and run around with my boyfriend :)

I LOVE Stitch in the Tigger costume! That is beyond adorable. I am sure he would look cute in all kinds of character outfits - Pooh, Mickey, a Dalmatian or two... There are endless possibilities. I don't blame the characters for trying to steal him from you. I once saw that someone on another non-Disney message board had a certain Pez dispenser that they brought with them on every trip, no matter where it was. So in they had all kinds of random pictures - without people in them - of Pez dude in Europe, with various attractions behind him, or Pez dude sitting at a diner, Pez dude sitting next to a pastry, all kinds of things. I envision that kind of future for Surfin' Stitch!

haha, Well... he does already have that sort of future, hes gone on tour with my band, to the aquarium that i work at from time to time, and just whereever we feel like going :) My mom sorta started it with her traveling cow "Mister Moomers" but i find stitch to be a little more entertaining since he can wear clothes :D I shall have to find the picture of stitch and tigger :)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v391/lammyluna/DSC05369-1.jpg
Buzz is always awesome too. DS was a little intimidated for some reason. Every time I'd lift the camera Buzz would pop into 'buzz mode' and DS sorta turned around in the second one like "uhhh what?" The third one is my SIL and buzz

Hey guys,
I'm looking to get a photo with Cinderella (♥) this June, but have not done any character greetings before. Is the only place I can find her in the Princess Faire or are there other locations?

She's usually at the Ariel's Grotto character dinner. She was also appearing at the DCA "Drawn to the magic" show, but that's on hiatus at the moment I think.
I've seen pretty much all princesses out at the Mickey flower mural one later afternoon before the parade. But that was only once, not on any schedule and the place was a mob scene.

That's Sweet Hatter and Demure Alice (who was in another thread as friends with Wendy and Tinkerbell).
Sweet Hatter and Demure Alice? Are these code names for different people playing the character? :confused3
And what is the un-demure Alice called? Isn't she always demure??? :rotfl:

To clarify, those identifications were from a photo earlier in the thread - not the one with Alice & Hatter immediately above. Actually, that is Sweet Hatter again, but a different Alice.
The code names aren't official, but just a way for fans to identify and discuss a particular friend of Alice, Mad Hatter or another character. A well-known CM came up with the names.

Yeah, but not everyone has to define Alice and Hatter as they met them. They simply met Alice and the Mad Hatter. Maybe it should just be left at that.

However, we did see a bunch of the pooh characters. My 2 yr old loved Pooh!!

He's not used to smiling, so he kind of does this, "okay, ready, and GO!" and he turns his face towards the camera and gives an anchorman smile. HAHA
He had a lot of fun taking pics with characters! I think it helped regain his Disney spirit ;)

Oh, thank you! That was sort of a replacement picture to put in there until I found one I preferred. I was getting impatient with photo editing, etc. I wanted to jazz up my avatar and signature with actual photos now that there are no tickers to add, or no cute, bouncy holiday things to put in! But this stupid computer is soooooooo slow and old that it took me, literally, about 3 HOURS:scared1: to resize the pictures I used for the signature and insert them, along with the avatar! Arrrrrrggggghhh! That is why I don't bother with resizing for my Trip Report - can you imagine how much time it would take me to resize all of those pictures if it took as long as it did for the ones in my signature?!!! It didn't help that Photobucket was also misbehaving last night. I wanted to be done with all that stuff by the time American Idol came on, but the show started and I had to pause it until I finished adding the stupid pictures to the signature! Three hours! Can you believe that? I think Photobucket must have had a bunch of hits last night, all at the same time, to make it act up like that! It kept crashing on me!

:goodvibes I always thought the signatures with photos like yours and Courtney's and some other DIS'ers were pretty festive. It just livens things up a lot. But I was waiting until the DLR trips were out of the way and the tickers were gone and the holiday bouncy things were gone to start jazzing it up! Little did I know that it would take sooooooo long!!:scared1:
TIME FOR A NEW COMPUTER, I'D SAY! And when I finally get one, I may even get some Adobe programs for graphic design, etc. I had a rough time getting comfortable with InDesign when I had to work in it before (I know you love InDesign), but I do enjoy tinkering with pictures and editing them in different ways, so it would be fun to have a program like that PhotoShop that facilitates that!!

Thanks! I will take you up on that! If and when I get that software (which will depend on when I get a new computer and all the accessories to go along with it), I am sure I will need all the help I can get, and sometimes the manulas and tutorials can be too confusing and give too much info up front when you don't need it all right away! So I would rather ask a regular person who uses that kind of software (and excels at it!) for the basics and important tips before I get myself confused by a manual!! I figure if I could get comfortable enough to work in the basics of InDesign, which I did, Photoshop can't be that much more difficult - there are tons of people using it that I know of, so it can't be too perplexing!!

Surfin'Stitch those outfits on your Stitch are so cute!
Do you make them yourself, or did it come with the stuffed animal?
And also... WHEN was Wilbur walking around the park!?

Just an FYI - most big photo storage sites (like photobucket.com, flickr.com & tinypic.com) allow you to resize pictures as they are uploaded. The photos can also be edited online - adding text & much more involved operations. These operations can be slow too, but due only to load on the sites' servers.

You know, I think its all just luck for our trips. We usually get our best character shots when we're randomly passing by them! Either that, or having a character meal, that way you are guaranteed to get pictures with them !!!
:welcome: & I hope you have a fantastic time at DLR.. OH and get to take some sweeeet shots with some cool characters. I personally LOOOOOVE Frozone now, 10x more because of how cool he was when we took a pic with him (and no one really wanted to take pictures with him ?!?!!?).
When there was no one waiting for him, he went over to the ice cream cart and took a couple of basking whiffs of the cold air, gave us a thumbs up and walked back to his photo spot! He is SOOO COOL (pun intended;))

And then, of course, there is that other rumor (unconfirmed by Disney) as to why they really removed Jack Sparrow from DLR.;) ;) They claim it was cutbacks and that Jack Sparrow wasn't as popular anymore or some such thing. We know that's not true. Jack Sparrow is very popular. Maybe a little TOO popular, if you catch my drift. Let's just say that it has been suggested that Disney, perhaps, removed Jack because he was getting lots of attention from many female visitors that - if true - would be highly inappropriate for Disneyland. A former CM who played Jack wrote an article recently about his experience working at DLR and playing Jack, and he claimed to have been approached by many amorous women who basically were acting like Girls Gone Wild. Supposedly, it has been said that many years ago, Disneyland removed the Esmeralda character (from the Hunchback of Notre Dame) because lecherous men couldn't control themselves around the attractive women who played her, and would be inappropriate. So if the Jack story is true and women were unable to control their urges, then Disney probably just got rid of him because it was encouraging behavior that is not G-rated at all, and why subject small children to that?
Of course, again, none of this has been confirmed by Disney to my knowledge, but if the Esmeralda story is true, I am sure that's what happened to Jack Sparrow too. I guess some women just got overly excited because they thought they were inviting Johnny Depp back to their hotel room, rather than some poor, innocent DLR Cast Member!:rotfl2:

Yeah, I mean....DLR will probably never officially confirm that this is why they removed Jack, but the Jack character is extremely popular because of the movies and because he is now a part of the POTC ride. So the fact that they attributed his removal (in living, breathing character form) from the park because his popularity had dwindled is a bit silly. Perhaps the Jack Sparrow character in and of itself was always a little too raunchy and debaucherous to fit into the Disney mold (yes, I know POTC is filled with debaucherous pirates, but we only see them in Animatronic form; Jack Sparrow we have actually seen in the movies, and he is up to no good most of the time!!).
But the fact that grown women can't act civilized around a CM merely playing the Jack character and have to behave like they are in some sort of wild bachelorette party in Disneyland is very disappointing. I am sure we have ALL had our wild times in our lives, but there is a time and a place for that kind of thing - and that time and place is NOT Disneyland, and somehow some people just don't know that! Take that behavior to Vegas, or to New Orleans during Mardi Gras, or Florida for Spring Break...but not to Disneyland!!!
