Wow, that is a great, unique perspective, and very holiday-ish! Really cool! It's like avant garde DLR holiday photo!!! Really kind of modern and interesting!

Thank you! I wasn't sure if 1992 DLH was considered vintage, but that whole Candy Cane Lane display at the DLH is something that they discontinued, so it is fun to look at stuff that used to be there!

Adorable! I love those pictures, especially the one with Goofy! When exactly was that second photo taken - of the two little ones and the stuffed Mickey in front of the Grand Californian Hotel tree? The reason I ask is because those kids look familiar, and I wonder if you were there on one of the nights I was sitting in the GCH lobby, watching people take pictures by the tree!!!:goodvibes

No, then I guess I didn't see you guys. I didn't get there until 12/19! But I swear, as I sat there, right by the tree, and watched all sorts of people go up to have their pictures taken, there was a little girl and boy with a stuffed animal posing very similarly to your kids!! How funny!

Yes, isn't the GCH a great hotel around the holidays? It has such a nice, warm, cozy vibe to it, with the piano player and the guitar player and the fireplace and the dim lights/dark wood and giant tree and all that. It really complements the holiday season and vice versa, I think. Plus, the location cannot be beat! And Storytellers is a nice, comfy, cozy restaurant. I stayed at GCH last year in December and also in 2001 for the holidays. This time we stayed at PPH, which was more than fine, but I STILL insisted on going to sit in the GCH lobby to take pictures with Santa and see the carolers perform by the tree!!

Sorry, :offtopic: but I cracked up when I saw this...in 1994 I was pregnant with my oldest son, and I had that same Mickey shirt that the girl to the left of Pluto is wearing...I loved that shirt, it was so cute with Mickey peeking through his legs when my tummy was round with baby! :lmao: I just thought it was funny how deeply the 'Disney connection' runs!

That's me in the picture with the Mickey shirt, DizFan13! I guess those shirts must have been popular in 1994!:rotfl: I wore that shirt off and on over the years up until 2007, until it was almost in tatters! I have never found another shirt like it, where Mickey was making that same pose, and I wondered why because it was kind of unique and unexpected. I wish I could find another one - I would buy several of them just to keep on hand. I can't remember how or where I got it - maybe someone gave it to me? - but it became my favorite Mickey shirt of all time. I got more comments on that shirt without even trying to get attention. People loved it - both women AND men, old and young. They would stare at it quizzically, like they couldn't figure out what Mickey was doing and if it was G-rated or obscene!! In any case, when I first got the shirt it was pretty large and roomy on me because I was just about at my thinnest point and the shirt was oversized, but it still fit me as the years progressed and I went up and down and up in sizes, so it was versatile too!

I bet the Mickey peeking through his legs would have looked really cute on a pregnant belly!

One of the things I like about Disneyland is that you can find enjoyment in the simple things. I was in a looooooonnnggg line for IASW and the lights on the building dimmed for the light show thing that happens on the building, and then the snow started falling. I saw this one lady who was happily reaching out to catch the 'snow.' It just reminded me of why we go...

They really are stunning - especially at Christmastime. If you have never been there during that time of year, I think we all would agree that you MUST do it at least once. As magical as DLR is during any other time of year, it is no exaggeration to say that during the holidays it takes on a whole other level of magic! It is almost breathtaking when you walk down Main Street at night and see all the lights, and see the sparkly Winter Castle glowing throughout the park, or the gorgeous IASW Holiday facade at night, which is so colorful I just stand there in a trance staring at it, transfixed, with my mouth open, looking like a fool. You get chills and goosebumps. There is something about the beauty of the decorations and all the Christmas trees and the holiday food and the music and the lights that just mixes so well with the 'regular' Disney magic. There is nothing like it. I don't think any other non-Disney park could compare at Christmastime. Heck, it's only March and I am itching to get back there for the holidays NOW!!:yay:

That is the problem! It is addictive. I mean, DLR is addictive anyway but there is extra magic piped into the air (literally and figuratively) during the holiday season that is just irresistible. Once you have been once during that time of year, you find yourself coming up with ways to get back there every holiday season, ahem, "just for the day...":rolleyes1...which turns into a 3-night hotel stay at the GCH "because it is a good hotel to stay in for the holidays...":rolleyes1:lmao::lmao:

Lovely pictures, by the way, DisneySuiteFreak! Do you use a Nikon? It seems like I recall you saying you used a Nikon in another thread (I am constantly paying attention to what people are using as I am on the hunt for a new camera but can't decide if I want a really great Nikon DSLR right now or a really good point and shoot for the time being (I like to be able to just shove the camera in my purse, but I want decent night pictures too!).

I can admit it; I am a Disneyland addict but even more so when it comes to the Holiday season!:woohoo::dance3:
Thank you for your kind comments, Sherry! I use a Nikon D90. It's a great camera. DSLRs have a little bit of a learning curve and it can be expensive due to the costs of the lenses. Every little thing adds up. However, if it's something you enjoy as a hobby, then it's worth it. It does allow for a lot more creativity than just a regular point and shoot. I'm still learning how to take good photos, and I have a lot of duds -- let me tell ya!:rolleyes1 I'm also trying to teach myself a little bit about post processing which I've never done until the last month or so. :scared:That also has quite a bit of a learning curve. I spend way too much time on the Dis and looking at Disney photos!:rotfl:But it's a fun hobby.
There are cameras that they call Bridge cameras that are similar to Point and Shoots but also allow for more creativity if you want it. I was thinking about getting a Canon SX1 IS or SX10IS. The SX1 IS coming out in April. It's one of the newest bridge cameras and can do HD video as well. I was thinking about getting one of these for those times when I don't want to lug all the camera gear around. I changed my mind because of the economy; plus I don't really need another camera! :rolleyes1 Speaking as one who has collected and amassed at least 8 or 9 different cameras in the last 20 years in my quest for better photos (not including camcorders:scared1:) I can honestly say that I am very happy with my D90 and assortment of lenses (finally!) and will stick with this one for quite a while. It wouldn't be too bad if I could have sold my various other cameras but by the time I would decide to upgrade they weren't worth anything anymore and technology progressed too far. That's what's great about using a DSLR to a certain degree - you can grow with it as a photographer and as you learn/progress you can buy new, faster lenses that give you more options for the various types of photography. The downside is cost. :guilty: Anyway, in case you're interested, I thought I'd pass on the info I've been researching... The Dis Photo boards has a lot of great info. I'm still learning, and have learned so much from there...
Have a great day, Sherry!

Thanks - I really appreciate the info and insight on the cameras.:goodvibes I don't know which the 'best' point and shoot camera is these days (frankly, I got a lot of use and great pictures out of my old 35mm camera but it's time for a new one) so a bridge camera automatically sounds better quality than that. And if a Nikon D40 is around $500, then the Canon you mentioned must be cheaper than that. I have been out of the loop on picture taking for a while (I used to take a bunch in the old days) so I don't necessarily want a clunky DSLR model just yet when I am such a clutz, but I either want a GREAT point and shoot that actually takes clear night pictures that don't look dark and fuzzy or maybe a bridge camera.

For a P&S: One of the photographers on the Dis photo boards just bought his wife a Canon SX110 IS (IS means image stabilization to help with camera shake:thumbsup2) and he said he really likes it. I was checking that one out for a P&S before I decided I'd prefer a Bridge, and then decided not to get anything.:rolleyes1 Then after he posted photos taken with it, a few others bought it or got it as gifts from their spouses as well. From what I've read, they are very happy with it. If you're interested, Amazon.com tends to have a lot of good deals, and if you buy directly from Amazon (not one of the third party sellers) anything over $25 ships for free. :woohoo:So I usually end up buying from Amazon. Amazon has a lot of customer reviews too which is great. Also, Amazon is an authorized retailer for all the major camera companies.

I love the coloring and clarity of this picture! There is a hidden Mickey on the float - in the stones, underneath one of the windows, at the very bottom, towards the right of the snowman. See the hidden Mickey stone formation? Or am I just seeing hidden Mickeys everywhere now?:lmao:

Thanks Sherry! This was one shot that came out, out of many that were less than stellar. :sad2: Unfortunately when I staked out my spot, I didn't think about the fact that I was shooting into the sun. :headache:That was a lesson learned that I will file away  for future reference. I didn't notice the hidden Mickey until you pointed it out, but yes it's there!:goodvibes

Oh, I loved that gingerbread man in the gingerbread coffin in HM!!
It smelled like actual gingerbread when you went through that part! :O I rode it multiple times just to go through that part over and over, lol!

And it was new that year, but they change that gingerbread display every year to something different ;)

Great shots ^^ (as always) DisneySuiteFreak!!:goodvibes:goodvibes I especially like the gingerbread coffin shot, not just because it reminds me of the gingerbread smell and of the ride itself, but also because you got a particularly clear view of it that I haven't seen in anyone's photos yet - you can actually see all the little evil gingerbread men at the base of the coffin, and the details of the plates and the things surrounding the coffin. That is a hard shot to get because it's so dark and you're moving and you have to get just the right vantage point to be able to capture the detail. Good job!

Thank you Sherry! Most of my HM shots are blech, because you're right, it's dark and in a constantly moving vehicle. Plus the way it moves is so jerky so it does make it hard to capture much of anything. There are some parts of the ride that I just haven't been able to capture in a still photo. Yet. :lmao:I guess that's all part of the challenge, eh? ;)

Can someone tell me what the rules are here about photos? Can we use peoples photos that they post here (say for our personal scrapbook) or would that not be cool?

DH is the photographer of the family and the last day we were at DL, the first official day of the Christmas season, he was back at the hotel sick. I'm not that great of a photographer anyway, but with 2 kids and at night, our pictures are really bad/blurry.

Even though the photos are posted in a public forum, the original photographer retains the copyright to them. To use them or download them without permission is infringement. It's not cool. You should ask the individual photographer for permission to use their photos via PM.

This picture is amazing. I am really now looking forward to going during Christmas season. At first I didn't want to go during any holiday season, because I have been to DW the last few years at Christmas, and wanted good old DL like I grew up with. But after looking at this thread, I am really glad I am going during the holidays. Except for HHM. I am sad about that overlay, as I LOVE the regular version and will miss it terribly!!!!
