Last night my sister and husband came over for dinner. They have a 6 year old DD.
After dinner the kids went into the other room to play. 10 minutes later my ds (6) comes in and proceeds to everyone that she is saying the "F' word. My sister is so upset. She calls my neice in and asked where is she hearing the "F" word from. She says "You mommy, you say it all the time and I did not know it was a bad word"!!!!! My sisters DH looks at my sister and proceedes to tell her that he is shocked because she doesn't even swear at him.
She says "I don't use the "f" word in front of the kids"!!!!
As she's saying that I'm realizing that this is a huge misunderstanding. That the "f" word in our house is fart. I hate that word!!!! That she must have been talking about that. So I ask my neice if she said fart. She said "Yes that's what I said."
So needless to say my sister got the mother of the year award back and a funny story to tell.

That is really funny. It reminds me when my darling DS6 first said the word. He was into rhyming words and all of a sudden he says to my DH and I - F*** rymes with Duck. We didn't know what to do ( he was right after all). We actually had to walk in the other room so not to laugh. He said it just so matter of fact like and had absolutely no idea what he was saying. We then had to tell him that that was not a nice word and not to say that anymore and if he said that in school he would be in the principals office real fast (he goes to a Lutheran Private School). He has not said it again (thank goodness)

When our DD was little, she had trouble saying the consonant combination of "tr", it would come out as an "f" sound instead. (Can you guess where this is goibg?) I can remember being on a few roadtrips and she would pipe up with "Hey, look at that big red f***!" or "What kind of f***is that?" My DH & I were always laughing so hard and trying not to show it. If I were a nasty sort of person, I would have taped her saying that word in her toddler voice...

Of course, being a boy, TRUCKS were his favorite thing in the world. And everytime he saw one, he had to let everybody know, really loudly. Soooooo funny (well, expect to his mom, who spent those 4 months looking for rocks to crawl under.)

My dh had the same problem when he was younger! Luckily DD had no problem with the tr sound. Good thing too, ever since we moved and the movers let her blow the horn in the "big truck" she is mesmorized by them. All we hear from the backseat is Look, Big Truck! :rotfl:
My boys are at the age where everything is "OOOHHHH, he/she said a bad word!!!" and the bad words are stupid, poo-poo, shut up, etc.
I love having them still so innocent. They came home from school and asked me "What's a cuss word?" Obviously, hearing that phrase from a kid at school, so I told them that "shut up" was a cuss word. They still believe me, mainly because we don't use any real cuss words at home...except I do use the phrase "That pisses me off" sometimes and they've caught on to that one. They asked me if p- was a cuss word too.
A funny story about innocence....In the summers the ice cream man comes around our house at least 2-3x a day. When they were toddlers they wanted to know what that truck was. I told them it was the music truck that went around to entertain people and play pretty music. They would get all excited when they heard the music truck each day playing it's pretty song. :rolleyes1
Well, the jig was up when the music truck came by once when we were at the neighborhood playground. The twins were excited to hear his song, but all the other kids ran towards it shouting, "ice cream!" Now my children beg for ice cream everyday in the summer when they hear him come around...but we can say for a little while at least, we just got to enjoy the music.

We have remote starter on our car. My DH took them to the window and told them too yell "Hokus Pokus"! He hid the remote and pressed the button. They now think if they yell Hokus Pokus the car starts.
I still don't have the heart to tell them. They think its magic. I love the innocence of children.

All of those stories are too cute!!!
DD5 is in Kindergarten and learning to read. One night in the car DH and I were talking and I hear her say Dam. I stop and look at her and ask what she just said. She put her head down and said, "a bad word". Then she said that she was reading the gas station sign. Right then DH realized what it was and started laughing. She was reading the Dairy Mart sign with the big DM and sounding it out. I had to tell her that it didn't say dam, just DM. It was too cute. It took all I had not to laugh. She looked so sweet and innocent when she admitted what she said.
Well we were watching Meet the Faulkers and my ds(3) heard us all crack up when the baby's first word in the movie was a very clear A**hole. So a few days later- sitting in the diner- he belts it out loud and clear... and waited for the laughs.(I wanted to crawl under the table) and of course my other children thought it was hilarious. It went on for about 2 weeks and thankfully the ignore it and it will go away worked. no more potty mouth.

The 's' word in our family is stupid also. I wish I had a picture of my strict christain SIL at Christmas when DD corrected her for saying the 's' word!
DD is learning word families. We were in Wal-Mart around Christmas and she was looking at the singing deer head they had that was maned Buck. Well she started talking about the rhyming words. I was cringing because we all know where this is going. D makes duck, m makes muck, h makes Huck, S makes suck. All of a sudden her eyes got real big and she covered her mouth and said, 'Mommy, the F word.' What do you say, I just kind of laughed and said yes honey the F word is in the word family. Now whenever she sees it she points and says, 'look Mom the F word.' I am so proud of my 6 year old. She knows how to spell the 'f' word. :rolleyes1

Great story! My DD always mixed up "fort" with another F word (can you guess which one?) So, whenever she was under a blanket she would yell "Fort, Fort" but that's NOT how it came out. Her father thought it was funny so while he didn't actually encourage her to say it-he didn't DISCOURAGE her either. We were in the airport (getting ready to fly to WDW) when she peeked out from her blanket and yelled (in that piercing toddler voice) "Daddy, wanna F***!"--needless to say Daddy learned really quickly to ennunciate the "T" sound!

A while back when my nephew was younger, he was watching TV with my sister and BIL and the Aflack commercial came on (you know, the one with the duck that keeps saying "Aflack" over and over). But, my nephew must have misunderstood and looked at his dad and said, "Ha ha Daddy! That's funny! The duck said a$$crack!" He was 5, and didn't know it was a bad word at the time, but now everytime that commercial comes on, it's all I can think of! :rotfl:

I will add mine to the roster! My ds 5 at the time, and his 3 1/2 yo sister were riding in the back seat of our pick up, with me, dh, & dm infront, on our way home from vacation one summer. Well, my dd had figured out how to 'annoy' her big brother, with the yes, no, yes, no banter. He obviously had enough, when we heard him say, (Gracie is her name) Gacie.... STOP PUCKING WITH ME!! You can imagine our faces in the front seat! My dh looked at me and asked did he just??? YEP! He did! we tried so hard not to lol!

When DD was about 3 she would spend the afternoon with me at work.
At the time I owned and operated an auto body shop. Most of my employees were guys and were very good entertaining her. She got very attached to
all of the deliverymen we had coming and going. She especially liked when
the big brown truck would pull up. We would hear " Mommy, the PMS man is here!" She could never understand why everyone cracked up! The poor UPS guy never understood why we were always laughing at him! :rotfl2:

:rotfl: Oh, kids. Gotta love 'em.
OK, can't help but contribute one of my own. DD4 has just started karate after watching DD8 for months. They are sitting in a group and DD is asked the question "When we come to class we put our hand over our fist to mean that we come in peace and ....?" (the answer was friendship) Well, having only recently started, DD didn't know the answer. When prompted again with "peace and....." she responded "Quiet?"
Gee, guess everyone now knows that mommy occasionally asks for "a little peace and quiet in here please"

My best friend, her DH, and her DS (toddler) were sitting down to dinner with some very proper friends from church. Her son grabbed his fork and with it in hand started chanting "fork!fork!fork!" only he couldn't pronounce the "r" sound at the time. My DH and I were cracking up, but our proper friends looked like they wanted to call child services on my best friend. Very red faced she announced, "Yes honey, that is your FORRRK". :rotfl:
