I hate to wear a fanny pack at WDW. I know I am weird, but I do not like the way they look or feel. I do need something to carry tickets, etc. Anyone have any other ideas of what I can bring?

I have one of those water proof beach safe things that my TA sent me awhile ago. It holds passes, room key, cash, etc. I tie it to my belt loop or wear it around my neck. It's a little bigger than a deck of cards and works great!

Maybe you could find one of those in the pool section of target or something!

If you are looking for something to carry a little more than just your passes - I bring a mini bookbag or I got a bag from the disney store a few years ago that says disney and the strap goes across my chest. BF will even carry the bag since it isn't really a purse. I can carry quite a bit in it and it stays in place on rides (just swing it around to the front). Sometimes we even use our camara bag to carry everything. Since camaras are so little now there is room for extra stuff in the bag too.

I'm with you - I just can't wear one of those fanny bags :o

For passes, money, etc. we have badge holders from the office supply store. They hang around your neck and the little "pouch" has a clear plastic front with a small zipper compartment behind it. It easily holds park passes, Fast Passes, AAA card, cash, the key to the in-room safe, etc. It wouldn't be practical for anything that isn't flat, but it is great for the things I mentioned.

I use a small crochet purse with an extra-long strap (that I can hook over my head and wear across my body). Because it's fabric, it has some stretch. It looks nicer than a fanny pack but serves the same purpose. Can fit my small wallet, cell phone, mini-fan, and disposable camera very easily.

No you're not weird at all. Majority of the civilization feels the same way about the fanny pack. they are for ugly tourists. :rotfl2:

Back pack, for ladies- purses you could sling on your shoulder, wear pants with big pockets.

I'm feeling the same way.... I bought a very small backpack the other day for 2.00 on clearance at Kmart- I think it's the right size for money, camera, a water bottle, and emergency ponchos for the kids... but it's not bulky, kinda like a large purse I don't have to hold-

DH wears the fanny pack...but, ONLY at WDW. He would not be caught dead or alive w/ one anywhere else.

I have a small backpack type purse. It is made of cloth so I waterproof it.

If you get to the parks or order by phone I found a great item in the park stores. It is a wallet that folds over itself. Closed it is about4 inches tall and open 8 inches. It s set up inside like a regular wallet with 2 zipper pockets on on each inside side and then also a zipper long pocket across the top for $$ or whatever. Tons of room for $$, fastpasses, tix etc. it has a lock/connector to hold it closed and a long strap to either use as a purse, or long enough to put sideways across your body. ALso has a belt loop on back. Best of all it has Micket and the happiest celebration logo on front. Very cute and useful. I believe it was around $14.00.

Ok after I wrote that long explanation I found a picture of it closed on a website but i dont have enough posts to post a URL so if you google "happiest celebration wallet" it will come up.

More expensive on website than what I paid.

Mom Possible-I googled the wallet and it does look nice, but it's $26. at Laughing Place. Where did you get it in the parks? I'm a confirmed fanny packer at Disney-don't tell the fashion police!-but that might do well, too, with the belt loop.

I used my camera bag. It was big enough for my digital camera and small enough for my ticket and cash. Thats all I need in the parks ::yes:: Got my bag from Target.

I saw it in several stores. Mousegears, was where I bought it but I also saw it in the store in the Toontown Fair and I think also in the emporium.

Hi,
I carry all of our tickets, money, extra film and 2 cameras (my video camera, and my small 35mm). My husband carries a backpack with kid supplies (water bottles, extra clothes for the kids-just in case. For what I carry, I use a professional photographers fanny pack. I love it- It can hold quite a bit, it has easy access, and it leaves me hands free.

Not that I am a slave to fashion, but HOW bad is it if I were to continue to use it? To me it just makes the most sense for all that I want to carry and still be hands free, without having to reach around to a backpack for what I want, or remove it every time I want to sit down.

I would love to hear from others who cannot give up their fanny/front packs.

How bad can it be? We're at Disney, for crying out loud! :cool1: I love my fanny pack (which I wear in front) for all of the reasons that momo2dk stated. As I turn 40 soon, I think it's time to think more about what makes me comfortable and less about what other people think. (Within limits of polite society, of course!) Disney fanny packers, unite! :grouphug:

I have to admit that I have tried to give up the fanny pack but I cant. It is just too easy to get to my camerqa $$ etc. We do bring a backpack which we leave on the stroller for big things but for the valuables nothing beats a fanny pack. I too wear it on the front.

My question to the fanny packers: How big is your fanny pack? I have a huge camping one that I have not been able to make myself wear and then various small/tiny ones.

I tried to do without it during my last trip. Tried wearing pants with lots of pockets. To an extent, it worked...my camera is one of those really small digitals, my cell phone is very small, too. But there were days I really wanted to carry more, so I wore a SMALL fannypack. I have the big camping ones, too, with water-bottle holders and everything, and unless you have small children with loads of paraphernalia, the big packs are just too bulky for comfort (I have enough bulk of my own, thank you!).

Pros of going bagless...no security lines! Crucial if going at park opening.
So much freer and more comfortable! No bulk when buckling in rides.
Nobody asks mommy to "carry this, carry that".

Cons of bagless...always putting my keycard in the same pocket as cellphone by accident ( big no-no, as you can demagnetize your card that way).
Depending on the pants I'm wearing, all the weight in the pockets can cause "droopy drawers syndrome" (you think fanny packs are a fashion nightmare???).

I'm so glad there are other fanny packers. I wear mine in the front. It's not a camping style one with room for water bottles, I got it through a photography equipment web site.

But this is great, I'll be there in April- fanny pack in front!!

No one looks good in a fanny pack according to my 16 year old so I finally switched to a sling bag. I love it and now so many of my friends have gotten them too after seeing and borrowing mine. This is the one that I have, in taupe. It is the perfect size. You can carry it over your shoulder in the back but I sometimes have it in the front across my chest. I love it. The Micro-Fiber cleans up so well too and it looks nice.

AmeriBagŪ Healthy Back BagŪ
Microfiber X-Small

Fabric: Micro-Fiber.
6 interior pockets.
4 exterior pockets.
Double zipped opening main compartment.
durable self-repairing nylon coil zippers.
interior key hook
Sizes: 16" x 9" x 5.5"
AmeriBagŪ guarantees workmanship of every AmeriBagŪ product.

I tied putting an image of the bag here but I just can't figure out how to do it.

Our first trip I "fanny-packed" it. Luckily by our second trip I bought (from disneystore.com) a wonderful sling styled backpack with the old Mickey Mouse club symbol right on it. Perfect. Not too big, not too small, just right....I even placed some of my favorite pins on it too. If you really don't want to use a fanny pack I suggest a sling backpack as opposed to a regular backpack. They are very easy to swing around in front of you to get on rides.

I love my "Disney" bag. It is a Baggallini sling bag that I have used on 2 separate Disney trips. It is small with a billion pockets for everything and never seems heavy. I fit everything I want in there including my baseball cap at times.

I got mine at ebags.com through the mousesavers site (you get an extra 20% off) and they come in a ton of colors (mine is teal blue)

http://www.ebags.com/baggallini/messenger_sling_bagg_rip_stop_nylon/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=18644 (thats not through the link)

I think you might be able to find it on ebay too but that guy only had black ones. I LOVE this bag!!!

on our first trip my wife bought us both fanny packs to use. i hated wearing it. i didnt like anything about it. my wife on the other hand loves it an will not go to the parks without it. even though it means wating on a security line. i wear a great pair of cargo shorts that have quite a few large pockets that i can carry everything i need.

Whoa-I hadn't even considered the droopy drawers issue. Don't want to look like the cable guy! :scared1:

I picked up a sling bag for $5 on the clearance table at ACMoore for our last trip. I really liked it at home-smaller size, very comfortable, held enough. Then when I used it the first day, I realized that wearing it across my chest was not going to be a good thing. Reminded me of the old "lift and separate" bra commercials-without the lift. Not pretty.

So I went back to the fanny pack. We have a bunch of them. I used to use our small brown leather one, about 8x5", because it has a fold down wallet in the front. This trip I used our black nylon one because it matched better. I like it so much better than the sling!

I'm raising a bunch of little fanny packers, too. Each of my kids uses one at the parks. Everybody has a tissue pack and hand wipe packets or gel. (Yes, I am neurotic about germs.) Every morning before the parks they are responsible to grab 2 snacks-fruit snacks, trail mix, pb crackers, whatever-to eat if they get nibbly between meals. We each have a sometimes-needed item, like bandaids. They have been very nice about providing for each other if one needs something the other has; they asscociate fanny packs with Disney.

DH insists on taking his trusty backpack. It's been all over the world with him on missions trips, and he is emotionally attached to it. I did notice on the last trip that he was more willing to put it in a locker rather than lug it all day; wonder what he'll do when it's just the two of us there?!

I have something by Ameribag. It is a little kidney shaped bag with a long adjustable thin strap. Mine is microfiber and pink (because I love pink!) They come in all colors, and I believe, even in leather. I chose the microfiber, because it is very light weight and I can throw it in the washing machine. You can wear it across your body or easily adjusts for around your waist but does not look like a fanny pack.
Anyway, I ordered it from their website for about $14.00, because I could not find a retailer in my area.

I am a fanny pack girl myself. I still have (and use) the one I bought for our honeymoon to the World in 1997. It has been to WDW 3 times and on 4 cruises and a number of other little trips. It has plenty of room for everything I need -I even put our camcorder in it on our last WDW trip (it's a small Canon ZR100 digicam). I feel better knowing that my stuff is on my person and no one is picking my pocket or backpack.

I just bought a Travelon bag from QVC. It is designedto sling across your body and rest on the front of your body. It has places for tickets money and is even big enough to hold a water bottle. I feel this is a great alternatve to the fanny pack which I also do not enjoy wearing.

I use a combination of my Ameribag small healthy back bag as some of the others mentioned and a small fanny pack. Depends on what I want to carry that day and how long we will be in the parks. My kids also have their own bags they carry if they want anything in the parks. I'm mom not a mule so if they want it they carry it. Both kids use them less as they get older, DS still uses his fanny pack or just carries what he needs in his pockets, 13 yo DD has a small drawstring back sling type backpack she carry sometimes.

Makes me miss the "stroller" days. At lease I always had somewhere to stick stuff. :earsboy: . Kohls and Target always have a nice selection of bags, often Disney themed.

Here is some "fanny pack" trivia for ya: One of my best friends is from Ireland and she told me that the word "fanny" is one of the worse (worst..whatever) swear words you can use there. My boss went to Ireland and I asked him to go to the gift shop and ask for a "fanny Pack" Ha ha ha. It was true!!! ha ha ha. he said the look the lady gave him was priceless...LOL

That cracks me up!!!!! I would have loved to see and hear that one go off!

Another option that I came across is a mini backpack from Jansport. It is the perfect size and super light weight...I would check ebags for it...

I just bought a back pack that has one strap that goes across the chest. I hate back packs so I'm hoping this will be a bit of an improvement. I want to have my hands free and I too hate fanny packs. The strap has a cell phone pouch on it, I thought that was cool. Leaving Saturday, so we'll see how it goes.

Try different positions in front of the mirror. I hate wearing my sling bag diagnolly because it does look like a very poor fitting cross your heart bra. I have found severeral comfortable positions and it does look way better then the old fanny pack.

Is it the Nike mesh one? We bought one of those! I also bought 2 traditional fanny packs today at Target for $5 each. I figure if DS wants to wear one he can, and if I want to stay in the parks while DH goes back for a nap I might want a fanny pack instead of the big Nike bag.

Imagine your embarrassment if on your first trip to the US a clothing sales clerk kept commenting on how nice a piece of clothing made your fanny look...or asked if it were too tight in the fanny...as happened to a Welsh colleague of mine years ago. She eventually figured it out since the clerk was otherwise a nice, polite older woman.

3 countries, bound by a common history, seperated by a common language. I'd guess the fanny pack/bum bag is originally derived from the military butt pack but marketing weenies figured that wasn't exactly appealing to certain demographic populations, hence the marketing of 'fanny pack' since the former word has a "cute" association in the North American English Lexicon.
