Trying to get ideas for a middle name for our soon to be son. We are kind of stuck as we have no family names that we want to use.
Our front runner for a first name is Brady.
Our last name starts with an R, so would prefer no R's for the middle name. Other than that, more concerned with the flow with the first name.
Would like to stay away from names starting with J or M because of the initials. Also would not like to use the names Michael or Thomas as those are the grandfathers names and we don't want to pick one over the other.
Thanks for any suggestions.

how about Ashton.....I am a huge Ashton Kutcher fan...LOL
I know you are not supposed to use the same syllables for 1st and second name but I think it sounds good together.

Personally, I like William or Daniel as boys names. John would go well with a first name of Brady (not sure how you feel about the initials BJ though).

Daniel totally came to my mind too. How funny.
Why not use your maiden name, or your mom's, or her mom's......?

A lot of us folks in New England think Tom would work great. Then there's Mike, Greg, Peter or Bobby. Or cut to the chase and give him Bunch as a middle name :)
On a slightly more serious note, I've always been a big fan of the mother's madien name.

What about using your husband's first name as a middle name? In our family, it is a tradition to use the father's name as the middle name.

How about Harrison?
We had named our first after all three grandfathers so we got to fully pick names for our second also. We also got stuck on the middle one. One nite, very late, I was driving and listening to a biography kind of thing on Bing Crosby (it was late and documentary things keep me awake :teeth: )
They said how he started in Vaudville always singing "H-A-Double R-I-G-A-N spells Harrigan" That morphed to Harrison. We thought it was kind of a cool way to pick a name and Harrison is what it became.
Wasn't until 2 days after he was born that we found out that his maternal great-great-grandma's last name was Harrison. :confused3
Congratulations!!!

With an "A" middle name the initials would be BAR.
I used DH's Mom's Mom's maiden name which is also my DH's sister's middle name-Joseph Gregg.
I was convinced my 3rd baby was a boy and we picked James Galbraith-my DH's middle name which is also his Mom's maiden name. For a girl we had Eleanor Rose but when we found out that baby #3 was a boy we changed to Emma Galbraith.
Just a side note-we went back and forth over the Joseph because it is my brother's name. My husband didn't want to offend my other brother or any other relative. We almost went with Thomas. I am so glad that we just decided he was a Joseph and stuck with that.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
My front runner was Alexander, so I was happy to see that on a few suggestions.
My husband's name is Troy, it just doesn't sound right witht Brady....that whole 2 syllable, 1 syllable thing.....plus, we don't want to give the kid a name someone else in the family has....I am a twin and big on that individuality thing. We both aren't big into using family names. I waited my whole life to get married to lose my maiden name, so I would never bestow it upon a kid!
The suggestion of Oliver cracked me up. My coworker has a dog named Oliver and just got a puppy and named it Brady. She had/has no idea that is our boy's name. She would probably think I was a little weird if I named my kid Brady Oliver after her dogs.......

Both my sons have their father's first name for their middle name.
I have a thing against jr.'s but still wanted to recognize my husband. BTW, how come girls aren't named after their mothers/grandmothers the way boy's are their fathers???

hey i like brandy alexanders and i'm not that old :rotfl: but seriously, you do have to take into consideration how names can be slaughtered or used for teasing (by other kids)-in my old line of work we saw thousands of birth certificates and there was lots we referred to as "demerol decisions" (mom must have been on demerol when she filled out the birth certificate :rotfl2:)- a few choice ones were:
his royal majesty
my prescious (this was a boy's name)
chasetitty (i think she was going for chastity :) )
(the twins) lemonjello and orangejello (yup, lemon and orange jello)
but the worst was:
fonda. (o.k. not bad, but when your a girl with the last name of "cox" ).

Nicholas!
Sorry, but that just doesn't "yell" well. Remember, this name will be used when you're upset. "Brady Nicholas, get your dying butt in this house this instant" -- See, it just doesn't roll off the tongue as well as some of the other choices. Nicholas works well for a first name as you'll probably get that out clearly, but it'll trip you later up as your blood pressure rises. :rolleyes1
I remember when someone asked our Evan what his middle name was. He didn't know until mommy followed up asking him "what we called him when we were upset with him." "Evan Matthew" was his quick reply...

This is a good point! When we were naming our son someone told us to go out in the backyard and yell the full name over and over. It really helped us to "hear" the name in a new light. We went with my maiden name for our son's middle name (which is also now my middle name and just happens to be a traditional first name for boys). I saw that you didn't like the flow of your maiden name, so that won't work for you!
Sorry for the hijack - back on topic. Some combinations I didn't see mentioned yet:
Brady Keagan (pronounced KEE-gan)
and
Brady Ellis
I think those both sound like the names of a cool kid!

My daughters both have family names DD#1 is Keri Elissa (Carey is my father's name I just spelled it different so they were not confused on paper)
DD#2 is Lillian Elisabeth (I named her after my grandmother on mom's side and Elisabeth is DH's mom's name also Dh's great aunt was Elizabeth Lillian, but we didn't know that until after we picked the name) We call her Lilli!!!
