Just heard Congressman Jim Ramstad of Minnesota on the radio. He said that he believes Washington National Airport will remain closed for at least six months. IMHO, that is very sad news. I can understand all of the security issues that an airport that close to the seat of our govenment must present. I know that National is a hub for U S Airways and hope that the airline relief package just passed into law will somehow keep them in business. God Bless America!

has anyone else heard anything more about this? DH and I are to fly into National on Oct 26. Should I wait for the airline to call me?
TIA

Perdidobay, we're flying out of National on 10/5, and we still haven't heard any alternative plans. The airline said I had to wait until the flight is officially cancelled before they'll switch me to Dulles or BWI. My fear is that won't happen until 10/4! However, someone else told me some airlines are giving you a five-day-out window, which would put us at this Sunday, the 30th.
So, most definitely it's too early to shuffle around your late October flights.
I watch the news websites daily on this subject...nothing coming up except rhetoric. BTW, the agent said the airline would call me and double-checked my phone numbers on file.
Frustrating, isn't it?

talking with a friend with a top gov't clearance - whatever the highest level is. He's in dc - he commented that regan national will reopen eventually but implied that it wouldn't be as a commercial airport. He indicated either a private airport or a "congressional airport" or maybe as an expansion to Bowling AFB - across the river in DC.
Another friend who works for AA at Regan nat'l has been told to put in a transfer request to anyplace with less senior employees in his field. He was also told to be ready to relocate to any other area where AA has operations. They will go whereever they need to for him to keep his job. (Figures - his son is 6 yr old DS's best buddy - every best buddy he's made over the past 3 years moves away :( )
