HOW OUR TRIP CAME TO BE
As we're finally into 2006 and I can say "This year I'm going to Disneyworld!!" I thought it was time to start thinking about my next trip.

INTRODUCTION
Of course, for most of us, the thought of a second trip starts the minute we set foot home from the previous trip. In our case this was January 2005 (read incomplete trip report ). My husband was not ready to go again for a long while, and the kids had been quite tiring so I could see the logic in waiting. However, you can't get away from pixiedust for long, so how was I going to get back? There had also been a lot of detail I had missed out on from being in a large group (ie. compromising) so the thought of going alone and absorbing all I wanted was very attractive.

In the meantime, DH had already agreed I could go an an all girl trip to Turkey in the summer of 2005 while he looked after the children. I had wanted to have some girly fun for as long as I can remember and this was finally to be my year. The 6 of us going were fairly close but after booking in december had started to have problems and divides. Oh how I wished I had used my solo time for disney instead. At one point I even tried to back out of the holiday, but it would have been too costly for the others in the group so I agreed to keep my plans because DH said if I wanted to go to disney so badly to give up this longed for holiday, then I could have my trip sometime in 2006!!

I knew that I would only be able to go for one week because of leaving the children and DH taking holiday time from work, but when to go? I needed time to save enough money and I also wanted to go in a low season, without extreme weather. September looked good but I didn't want to be away while the kids were settling back into school, so I looked at the fun October, with Food and Wine festival and the Halloween party. Of course, there is a school holiday that falls in October, so I started rethinking the solo trip. Could I maybe take my DD with me? She loved thrill rides and would be 7 by then, quite old enough to eat in nice places and being mature, would be happy to look at gardens, displays etc. Yes our own girls trip seemed quite a good idea. DH was more than accepting ( well it is one less child to tend to) so we had a plan.

21 st to 28th October for mum and DD7
At this point, my mind started wandering. Wouldn't it be lovely if my MIL could come too? She has been nothing but wonderful to me and I have been officially adopted for the past 8 years. It would be lovely for her to have quality time with her grandaughter and she would appreciate all I wanted to acheive. Sadly on this occasion I was turned down for financial reasons. It was over sometime in the spring that DD's friend came to over to play. She is a delightful, intelligent mature girl and her mother, who is equally lovely and great company always, is sadly raising her alone. I wonder?... They were delighted to be asked and DD was even more delighted

21st october to 28th october for mum28, DD7, DD friend 7, 2nd mum 40

Do you see where this is going? Ok, so with the 4 of us onboard, I waited for the Virgin holidays brochure to be released. On may 16th 2005, I finally booked our holiday. I chose Coronado Springs for several reasons:

budget wise, I could not go higher than a moderate

I didn't like the look of Carribean Beach

The theming and pool of Coronado Springs won out over Port Orleans

being a convention resort, the buses would not be as full ( so I heard!)

Being the good girl that I am, I started sending Virgin £200 a month to cover costs. I also requested the dining plan and park tickets

BIG MISTAKE

And I'll tell you why. Firstly I should know that I am the best at ferreting out good deals on park tickets and I could have saved about £30 form the virgin price. Why didn't I? Well Virgin like to charge an admin fee of £25 every time you change your booking. For the sake of £5 not worth it. I did cancel the dining plan though because when I added up the costs of what I estimated us to eat, it was a big enough saving to go without. Me and DD just don't eat that much! Enjoy my £25 Virgin We have also booked Virgin transfers butI have been assured that I can cancel these when I get to Orlando without penalty. I'm holding you to that Richard Branson..

forward to october 2005...
DS4 was getting a bit upset about the thought of big sis going to disney and not him. Who can blame him? but do I really want to take 2 kids? Can I afford it? It won't really be a girls trip then will it? Ok, so Dh and me sat down and did some maths. yes, I could afford it at a stretch but would we get the booking? There was no availability online soIi rang Virgin to see what we could do. Now do you ever get the feeling that we know more than the professionals... First I held for 30 minutes (yes really silly me) then i got passed through 2 different departments, cut off, held again, then told that department was closed for the night, try again tommorrow...WHAT!!! Ok, breathe.... so I did. I'm not going to give you every gory detail, except to say my son is now coming but has his own booking which is attached to mine. I had to amend our holiday to stay a night extra and change our flight time going out so that we could accomodate him (another £25 for Richard!) Oh yes, and apparently since the original booking they have introduced ridiculous surcharges of £60 per person for fuel. So that will be another £180 on our bill then. The main point is, DS is coming, I get anothet night in Disney, and 2 kids to look after (lets go for the new heading then...)

21st to 29th October!, for DD7, DS5, mum27, friend7 and her mum40 at Coronado Springs with ripoff Virgin Holidays

Oh yes, just to add that friend and her mum have kept original booking obviously because why should they pay silly surcharges etc. but we are now on different flights both ways and friend of DD is none to pleased that a BOY will be on her trip. Quite right really. Wait for it, there is one more to come. Remember my lovely grandad from previous trip report? If you don't, he bought me a timeshare in Orlando and has supported my whole life in every way imaginable, well he would like to come on the trip too!! Seeing as its not just a girls trip anymore, he dioesn't feel bad about asking...oh well, lets book you up. In December, the week the flights were released from Virgin Atlantic, grandad got booked on our flights but in premium economy. Very nice for some eh!? We then booked hotel with disney online and ordered park tickets for him and DS from http://www.mercurytravel.net, they always give the best prices around and send actual tickets, not vouchers. So we now have...

All of the above plus Grandad73

Where did my peaceful, detail absorbing solo trip go?? Anyway, now I get to plan an itinerary for 6 people of all ages to enjoy. My family knows better than to try and interfere in my itineraries but I have yet to have the talk with the other mum. Let you know how it goes. BTW, no pressure or anything, but Disney now changed its policy to book restaurants 180 days in advance, so I have to get active. Only 113 days till I can start making those ADR's.. ah the yummy decisions to make.

And so begins my trip journey. Please check back often as I plan to keep this page a bit like a trip planning blog, updating everytime I do something trivial like change the order of attractions ( yes really I will, so sorry). please come along for the ride and thanks for reading this far...

happy planning,

Clairexx

Blimey Claire, you certainly know how to make life complicated for yourself ;) I would probably have stuck with the solo trip. Looking forward to see if anyone else joins your crew between now and October. We may even bump into you while we're there (arrive 10th October for 2 weeks) :)

I'm not quite ready to publish my pre-trip report yet but was happy to show DH that I'm not the only one who is already planning our trip for October :rotfl:

Thanks for your replies to my premature pre-trip report. i just felt like I had so much to say already :flower: To any DISers who are there on the same dates, a meet is definately on the cards. maybe dinner at Raglan Road?

Just a few things i forgot to add the other day (yes really there's more)

- I have booked a towncar pickup with ****** Transportation, $95 return journey. I thought about DME, but I know I will just want to get there as quick as poss. They were given great reviews so i thought I would give them a try.

-Pin Trading :flower: My new favourite hobby. I have started bidding for cheapie pins for all of us to trade in October. trouble is, I keep wanting to keep them. I have come up with a theme to my collecting too: park rides and shows. Didn't realise how many sliding/ moving parts pins there were. Must put a budget on this, ebay are doing too well from me.

-MNSSHP :cheer2: Let the costume hunting commence. Trawling through different ideas at the moment ( as I know other DISers are starting to as well), could be harry and Hermione, could be a Lilo and a peter pan for all I know at the moment. No sewing would be really nice please...

- I know that I will have to do the party on the Thursday because our friends are going to Discovery Cove on tuesday and won't be recovered enough, Sunday we won't be over the jetlag yet, so Thursday it is. This is the only definite space on my itinerary filled.

Anyway, will be back with more soon ( hopefull not every few days to October though, you'll all get fed up with me :guilty: )

Thanks for the update Claire. We, as you know, are there 10-24 October so if a meet is held before we depart I would be happy to come along and meet some other DISers.

We have 'spoken' about costumes already but I'm afraid I've no more suggestions. Just to add, though, that we have now thought about Pink Ladies and T-Birds (purely for the ease of doing costumes). Still open to other ideas though ;)

I actually thought you were going to say that you had added someone else on to your party for a minute. Glad to hear the basic plans are still the same :)

Hi everybody!

Now please don't think I'm crazy but I have the first draft (and hopefully last :teeth: ) itinerary for the trip ready to go to press :cheer2:
I based my info on the fact that so far for 2006, the park hours they are printing have pretty consistent EMH so I can make a good guess at planning. Anyway, here's the rundown.

DAY 1, TRAVEL DAY
Nothing much going on, just settling nice and early to bed with a foodcourt dinner

DAY 2, SUNDAY
Studios from 9am till parade finish (around 4pm)
Lunch at 50's Prime Time

Evening at DTD for shopping, dinner

DAY 3, MONDAY
AK EMH 8am till about 1:30pm
Lunch at Counter Service

REST, followed by early dinner at Whispering Canyon,
Mk evening with Spectro and Wishes

DAY 4, TUESDAY
Do our own thing day while friends are at Discovery Cove. Popular vote will be for Typhoon lagoon, followed by DTD afternoon with Disneyquest or a movie. however, recent reading has led me to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, where DD could get a makeover for:
Dinner at 1900 Park Fare

DAY 5, WEDNESDAY
Epcot 9am - 2pm, tour FW and a little bit of food and wine fest grazing

Take friendship launch to Studios to finish up stuff we missed and fantasmic with dinner package at Mama Melrose.

DAY 6, THURSDAY
MK EMH 8am - 11:30am
Straight back to CSR for pool, lounging and napping till

Dinner at Chef Mickeys (earliest seating poss) then over to the halloween Party. Want to try and push kids to 2nd parade time but here's hoping.

DAY 7, FRIDAY
Sleep in this morning, get up when we want, have some pool time, then head over to Ak to finish up and see parade. get bus over to Epcot when done for world showcase browsing and dinner at Teppanyaki before Illuminations. may be an EMH night so we could take our time leaving and jump on any attractions with a short line.

DAY 8, SATURDAY
DD friend and her mum will be heading home today. When they're all checked out, head to Ohana for Lilo and Stitch breakfast before a last few hours of fun at the MK.
Late lunch at CRT before seeing them home.

Eveniing for us will be at Fort Wilderness for a hayride and the campfire movie. have to figure out annoying transport home from here.

DAY 9, SUNDAY
Time to go home!! Check out and head over to Epcot to finish favourites, then friendship boat to beach Club for lunch at Beaches and Cream. Who says ice cream isn't real food ;) A last ride on Tower of Terror for kids (their favourie ride) and off to the airport we go. :guilty:

So that's how it sounds at the minute. Just wanted to say that originally I thought I was a bit crazy writing a pre-trip report so early, but judging by recent threads I am not the only nut in the tree :teeth: Loving all this planning and I'll be back soon,

I look at it more that others just followed your example ;)

Itinerary looks good Claire. It's a shame we are leaving pretty much as you arrive - would have been good to meet up :)

I must admit I followed your example - but it is nice to know that when DH moans about me "planning the trip when it is still 4 months away" as he puts it I am not alone in still getting excited about going to Disney even though I'm an adult 40 something!!

I also followed your example and am so glad I did! So many people have found it useful and interesting and made them think about doing things they wouldn't necessarily do :sunny:

Your plan looks great and I'm so looking forward to the next update! You've spurred me into doing my plan now :cool1:

and when will the tickets go on sale

anyone else deciding to join you yet :rotfl:

please keep us informed
and hopefully you won't need to give richard any more £25

:woohoo: My plans so far are :woohoo:
Booked in to Port orleans for 2 weeks :sunny:

booked a secert cruise for 3 nights on the Disney wonder 26th Oct pirate: have'nt told anyone yet ,not even DH just told him we will have a break at the beach , as no one will go with him any other time we have been
we went to Petes beach the first time we were there , he always wants to go back , but I'm sure he will love Casyway Cay much better

got tickets for US / IOA never been there before keep meaning to go but never get round to it , so decided if I have the ticket we will use them

So that is about all I have planned

We really just like to go with the flow
usual send most days at the water parks and go to the parks in the evening
we had a family Gathering last time , which was great but this time it will be more chilled out hopefully

glad to know i am not alone in the planning

Hi jackie,
Thanks for taking the time to read.I think the party dates get released at the beginning of May so I was just basing my assumptions on historical days of the week for the party. So jealous about the cruise, always wanted to do one but that could be many years of saving yet. Great that there will be one more UK DISer there at the same time. I was hinting at a meet a little while back, maybe a dinner at Raglan Road, I'll keep you posted :thumbsup2

Now about someone else joining our party :teeth: ....some of you will not be suprised when I say that our numbers may increase once again. My DS had a friend over to play this week and his mum saw my pins on display in the kitchen (got some very nice display boards from ebay but I digress) Anyway, she asked me a little about WDW and why I loved it so much. You can imagine it was a while before I stopped talking in an overaggitated Stitch on coffee kind of way :lmao: She said she had always wanted to take her son there while he was still young (the boys are nearly 5 now) and well...the words kind of slipped out..."you're more than welcome to come with us". She is very seriously considering the idea as I write. Will let you know the outcome soon.

I also talked to DD's friend & mum about planning and if they wanted to be involved, and I got the perfect answer. "We'll just go where we're told, you go ahead and plan" :cheer2: :cheer2: I love compliance in my friends.

Off to cook dinner now, really tired today as I hosted a sleepover for DD and her friends last night (8 stayed over). When did 6 year olds get so stroppy and hormonal? Nanny McPhee is a great watch BTW. See you all soon (especially those going to the meet in a couple of weeks),

Claire xx
