View Full Version : Where do you do your grocery shopping?
For those of you DVC members that actually use the kitchen in your room I was wondering where you do your grocery shopping. Are there any grocery stores or member stores like costco or sams club between MCO and WDW? Do the grocery stores near WDW have "disney" inflated prices? Does DVC run a grocery store on property with real world prices? As members have you ever thought of bringing this idea up? On any given day there are thousands of DVC guests perhaps they may consider it, even if it is not exclusive to DVC members.

We shop at the Publix near the Outlet Mall. We like the produce there the best, and the prices are not too much different than those at home. There is also a new SuperTarget nearby if you need things other than food. There is a Costco between the airport and Disney, just check the Costco website for the location. We've never bothered with Costco. Each DVC resort does have a small convenience market in the resort shop, but most of the prices are on the high side.

Publix is the best that we have found. There are two locations that are about 8-10 minutes from OKW and BWV.
On the Publix web site, they are listed as Regency Village Shopping Center (near the outlet) and Xentury City (near Gaylord Palms). The Xentury City store is smaller and easier to get in and out quick, however the other store is newer and very nice. Both locations have Walgreen's nearby as well.

There is an Albertson's off of Orange Blossom Trail between MCO and WDW. Very convenient to stop on the way to the resort. Prices are reasonable. If you don't want to spend much time shopping, you can fax them a grocery list and they will have it ready for you at the customer service desk. Numbers on on their website.

We just returned from a week at OKW and used wegoshop.com Marge is the new owner and did an excellent job buying our food. We used Publix add two days before we left and bought alot of two for ones and it really worked out well. She delivered our food on time and gave us the receipt as well. I would use her again even if we drive in next time.

I also really like Publix but on this last trip we just went to Winn Dixie which is probably a little closer. It was fine. I just avoid Goodings like the plague -- such a rip off and Winn Dixie is just a little ways from there and also has a liquor store in the same parking lot if you need that stop too.

We usually stop at the Albertson's off the Orange Blossom Trail exit between MCO and WDW. That's were I shop at home and it is just easier for me to go to a store I'm familiar with. We did try the Winn Dixie on the hwy as you turn left off Hotel Blvd. (sorry don't know the name). It was very nice and clean. Would use it again.

We used to shop at Goodings, close but expensive and the only supermarket that never seemed to have grapefruit juice.
Now we go to Publix near the outlets. Great store. Nice selection of prepared foods (I do so hate to cook on vacation). We get breakfast food, snacks, lunch/sandwich fixings and some prepared things to reheat for an eat in dinner.
Thanks to this board for all the directions to the supermarkets! :goodvibes

We were there at Thanksgiving and shopped at a recently opened Walmart that is 5 minutes away from SSR. The prices are great and they have everything you need from clothes, souveniors and groceries.

Has anyone tried the new super Walmart about a mile or two away from DTD?

i just had Goodings deliver and it was perfect, maybe a little more but everything arrived and no complaintes. I also ordered a birthday cake from them and it was the most ornate cake I have seen!! I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

We went to the Wal-Mart near DTD. I am not sure if it was the newest or not. It was about 4 miles away.
Very nice.

We're heading down to OKW in February....would love directions to the new Walmart. We usually shop at the Publix at the Premium Outlets, but this sounds closer...??

I have the directions at work and can post them tomorrow. But basically if you come in from the airport at the DTD area, take a left at the light where the CVS (used to be an Eckerd) is on your left. I think Gaylord Palms is on the right? If you take that left and go about a mile or so, you'll see it. I think the Vanity Fair outlet is somewhere down there, too.
It's a brand new super Walmart.

We use Winn Dixie.
Go out Hotel Plaza Blvd. to light at Crossroads & make a left onto 535.
Winn Dixie is a little bit (2 - 3 lights??) on right. FYI - There is an ABC (liquor) store in the parking lot for those of us who enjoy a nice beverage on the balcony at night!
I was able to get a frequent shopper/bonus/whatever you like to call them card from them on-line.
While I don't cook, we stock up on bottled water, soda, ice cream, snacks & laundry detergent, etc.

Publix over by the outlet stores. They have Boar's Head deli meats and cheeses which we prefer.

We also go to the Publix. You can go to the onsite store, but on our last trip, we bought a case of beer at Publix and had to go down to the store for a 6 pack of bud light and it was $12.50! OUCH. I might have been better to get a cab to go get another case!
Plan well so you don't have to go to the onsite store! Or drink less beer and more water!

We always stop at the Albertson's on our way to OKW from the airport. It's so convenient, right off 417. One time we forgot, then had to go out for groceries after we checked in, which we didn't enjoy. Once we check in, we like to unpack and start vacationing!

We shop the Publix by the outlets. I like the produce, meat, and especially the bakery! The key lime pie is a must every trip. :)

I get soy millk at Publix. They also have a health food aisle with plenty of natural foods. I'm not sure what kind of vegeterian selections other than soy milk you are looking for.

We are arriving after midnight and normally use Tiffany. I'm not sure if it will be worth it this trip, however, since I can't imagine any of the stores will be open late enough to use the grocery store stop.
I'd like to use Magical Exp, but my sister came in late last month and they waited in line for an hour and then on the bus even longer for it to fill up before they'd leave for the hotel. Since we arrive so late, I'm thinking it could take a long time to fill a bus!

They do very good cakes and have a better deli section than some of the other local stores. ::yes::

We drive down and buy Propel and Flavored water for the trip. I also bring some snacks from home. When we get there we normally stop at Gooding's across from Hotel Plaza Blvd. just because it's right there. We get milk and maybe eggs, bagels, bread, and turkey bacon, yogurt, etc. This year we may go to Publix to compare and to do something different. We rarely cook during our vacation. If we do it's a frozen pizza or a good breakfast in the morning.

We shop at the screen door general store at the boardwalk. The prices are about the same as we pay at home and they have what we need.

We use the Albertson's off of Orange Blossom Trail. We are from NJ and just another tip, you can use your Acme card to utilize any of the in store sales, Albertson's is Acme's parent company.

I use both Winn-Dixie on Apopka-Vineland near the Crossroads, and the Publix at Xentury City (near Gaylord Palms). Just wanted to add that I looked at the Publix ads on line and discovered I could order a holiday dinner (under Deli) and ordered our Christmas turkey that way. It did take them a bit to find the order, but helped our Christmas dinner a lot. I just did the green bean casserole, and our particular sweet potato recipe and it was *our Christmas, but in Florida* I know we visit way too often because I can tell when they've rearranged the aisles at the Publix! We also appreciate the Boar's Head deli. They even have lebanon bologna, a family favorite :)
Having shopped at Goodings on many previous trips(knowing their prices wer a bit on the high side but opting for convenience and high end selection), I trekked over there in November to pick up wine and snacks. We all thought the store was maybe getting ready to shut its doors for good because it looked such a mess! Shelves partially stocked, limited brand choices, etc. And the prices were not just a little on the high side...they were ridiculous. Won't make that mistake again.

I believe they just filed for bankruptcy. Sounds like they've been having problems lately.
