View Full Version : What can you tell me about the Cheyenne?

Paging dlpSteve and anyone else who has stayed!!!

I practically live in 4 and 5 star hotels in North America most of the year. I'm not looking for luxury on my vacation; at WDW I have stayed in all the values (well, actually all of the WDW resorts over the years, sad to say!) I own DVC at OKW but will not be using points on my DLRP trip as it takes way too many points.

I like the look and the price, but don't see many reviews and it's not in the FAQs here.

So... what can you tell me? Some specific questions:

- are all the rooms with bunk bed
- how far of a walk to the parks
- I think that I read that there is a gas station at the entrance? yes? does it have a shop (I used to buy my emergency groceries at the gas station on a Sunday in Bavaria when I ran out :teeth: )

Please sell me on the Cheyenne, or feel free to tell me that I should move on to something else.

- are all the rooms with bunk bed

No - this trip we had just a double bed, I'm pretty sure you can ask for what you want. We've had rooms twice without a bunkbed - once with a cot and this time with nothing else - just the double bed - nice and roomy :)

- how far of a walk to the parks

About 10 minutes, we found it not much longer than Sequoia Lodge after you've walked up the path and over the bridge. We always enjoy the walk along the river because there are lots of ducks and swans. In all the times we've stayed at the park we've always walked to and from the parks.

- I think that I read that there is a gas station at the entrance? yes? does it have a shop (I used to buy my emergency groceries at the gas station on a Sunday in Bavaria when I ran out )

I think the petrol station is near the Santa Fe, which considering the Cheyenne is on the other side of the river to Santa fe then it's also very close to the Cheyenne too.

We use the hotels to sleep and shower in so we need nothing more than a clean room with suitable facilities which is what we get with the Cheyenne so it would be pointless for us to pay more. We also like that it's the least like a standard hotel than all the others - the wild west theming is fun and especially in the summer when the characters put on wild west shows on the courtyard stage.

The Red Garter Saloon is fun and they often have live music - country music would never be my first genre of choice but it's very fitting in the Cheyenne and suits the bar atmosphere perfectly.

We stayed at the Cheyenne on our first visit to DLP and were very impressed. The theming is excellent and you'll find everything you need. The Red Garter Saloon is really good in the evenings and there's a shop, restaurant etc.

I really enjoyed my stay in the Cheyenne- we had a room with bunk beds. The walk was not very long to the parks, and it is a nice walk, seeing the various parts of hotels.

We stayed there in 1996 and really enjoyed it. :) We had a room with a double bed and bunkbeds - WAY too cramped imo, but I'm sure it would be fine with just a double bed in it! The only real problem with it is while there is a ceiling fan in the rooms, it isn't nearly as effective as air conditioning, and so it can get quite unpleasant in the hottest days of summer. The walk is about 15-20 minutes, but not boring at all as there is loads of scenery to look at.

Wonderful!! Thanks for the feedback, as you have reassured me that this is a good choice if I end up going solo for my first trip....

Wow, all those hotels!! You must be an expert packer!!
We love the Cheyenne. The rooms are small and dark but good enough to sleep and shower before the off.
TV reception (if you into that) isnt great. The shower is power shower over bath which gives a really good pounding to sore legs after all the walking. Watch out for the wooden surround on the bed - you can easily bash your shins getting in and out. We loved the cowboy theming. The food hall was large but breakfast can get hectic if your planning to get there 8.30/9am. Buses were regular but it was just a simple to take the short 10 minute walk along the 'river' to the lake by hotel New York then its straight through the village and into the parks.

We love the Cheyenne.

I 'commute' to work via airplane, and live in hotels most of the year for work... :teeth: Some good things come from that (lots of airline and car rental points to burn) and some not so good things (some hotels are better than others!!!)

Thanks widget for all of the details about the room itself!

Cheyenne is great...its the best themed hotel at DLRP IMHO. The rooms are a bit smaler as the once at the values at WDW.

I personelly dont like the breakfast and dinner at the hotel..so my advice would be to go for the free Fantasyland breakfast.

Greets and happy new year

Another thumbs up for the Cheyanne. Breakfast consists of a very basic chose if I remember correctly. Fantasyland breakfast has paper plates and plastic knives and forks and when we did it last a right free for all ( ugh ) but it does get you into the park early - every cloud has a silver lining

It sounds like the Cheyenne would be ideal for you. The main differences between the 2 cheapest hotels (Cheyenne and Santa Fe) and the others are no swimming pool and no table service restaurant, plus they're slightly further away from the parks (although as others have said, it's walkable for most people or only a short bus ride away if you prefer). Having stayed in both the Cheyenne and Santa Fe, they are both absolutely fine if you just want somewhere to sleep and shower, but the Cheyenne's theming is much better in my opinion for only a little bit more money. We have looked round all the other hotels (except Hotel New York) on our trips so you could always do this on your trip and plan where to stay the next time!

Also I agree with Renate, it can be busy at breakfast so we always choose to go for the Good Morning Fantasyland breakfast - you get into the park early at no additional cost and the food is the same.

Base your decision purely on your budget and cost alone.
That is my advice.
We have stayed in the Cheyenne, Sante Fe & Sequoia Lodge and have to say that there doesnt really seem to be any nenefit in spending more on accomodation when you are out all day long.

Although slightly further from the parks, the Sante Fe is absolutely fine.
The breakfast arrangement is the same across all these hotels.

So, I would recommend a look at the price of the hotel before deciding which one to go for.
The Cheyenne is a nice layout and setting, but no enormous benefit over Sante Fe.

As said before I also think Cheyenne combined with the GMF - Breakfast is a great Combination. The Cheyenne has imho the best Theaming of all Hotels and the fact that the Parkinglodges are not seen from the hotels underlines this very great.

Talking of breakfast...

Can someone tell me what exactly is offered at breakfast, in particular at the Hotel Cheyenne as that's where we are staying. 'Continental breakfast' can range from bread and jam, right up to cereals, various breads, cheese, ham, even boiled eggs IME What should we expect to find please?

Many thanks :clown:

Breakfast consists of rolls, croissant, pain au chocolat, cearals, yoghurt, cheese and cold ham, juice juice, tean and coffee. You can pay extra for a cooked breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon :)

Thanks Cyrano!

Sounds good to me, do they limit you as to how much you can have or is it 'help yourself' so you can get a good feed up and hopefully need little until later in the day? I've heard eating at DLP doesn't come cheap, like most tourist places I guess

Last time we went, Cheyenne and GMF breakfasts were all you can eat on the continental stuff with an surcharge for the one off cooked brekkie. Eat enough pain au chocolat and croissant and you'll be fine til lunch!

Thanks Emmo, sounds just the ticket to me, I doubt we'd pay the extra for a hot breakfast since we'll be needing money for other meals :guilty:

Looks like you arrive the day after we arrive! Will make sure we leave you some food :stir:

You maybe have not a huge choice among breakfast items, BUT... the food you get is good food. I mean, it's not cheap ham-like meat, it is real, good ham. It is wonderful fresh bread, and FRESH FRUIT SALAD! In most places, you can get an apple, or fruit salad out of a can. It's rare you get such wonderful fruit salad.
I don't need a large choice (then you need tto think too much about what you are going to take), but I need it to be GOOD.

There is also yoghurt (all sorts) and flan caramel. And there are two kinds of cheese (yellow and orange, lol!) There is choco pasta, jam, honey, ...
As said, rolls, croissant and chocolate breads, and also multicereal sliced bread.

It is not the best of breakfast anyway. Eggs were somewhat runny.

As Sandra said the continential breakfast is nice. It is at least real croissants, unlike my supermarket ;)

Sandra, would this be the case in the Cheyenne, or are you talking DLH? :lmao:

Yes all the items Sandra mentioned are (usually) available at the Cheyenne, the cheese is nice and so is the bread but I just love the mini Pain au Chocolat and croissants, and as Cyrano said much better than any English shop bought ones!

Yes, Kevankiki, I hope you at least leave us one croissant each!

Depends how many of you there are :teeth:

Then again croissants may not be a problem... pain au chocolat on the other hand might be (says a chocoholic) :rotfl2:

I will forego my usual breakfast of Nutella on bread for pain au chocolat.... mmmm....

As my grandfather always said, chocolate is brain food. (he's pushing 90 and still going strong, travelling the world, so I will take his advice!)

My sister and I ate about 5 pain au chocolats every morning wit a cup of hot chocolate. Yummy! My little girl loved the ham and cheese and she also would have a muffin and yoghurt, so everyone manaaged to get a good filling breakfast!

:rotfl2: Actually, I should follow my diet because I must lose weight, but, I'll make an exception just for the holiday, so, I warn you, I'm chocolate-deprived, and I may be dangerous!

Teresa, you HAVE to make an exception when you are on holiday! Anyway all the walking you will do should balance out all those extra calories! :goodvibes Well, that's how I always justify it to myself! :rotfl2:
