Here we are in our new home! We'll be continuing on after the Full/Half as the WISH Walking/Running Club, so you'll continue to find us here on the new board :flower:
I discovered yesterday that my bad ankle is not fond of the 10 mile distance. Actually had to drag out my old ankle brace just to walk in the afternoon. I'm planning on lots of icing or maybe that cold water soak for next week's 12 miles :cold: Good news is, based on my 10 mile time yesterday, I should be well ahead of the sweepers by then. And the pacing calculator lists my finish time as 3:09!
With only 4 weeks left, are there anymore planning thingies we need to do? Does anyone want to exchange cell phone numbers so we can find each other before, during and after the races? Is there anything else we need to think about?

Sunny great pics. What fun you had there!
Lynne, Oh my what a driving experience. Glad it was worth it and that you made it safely.
We are going to dinner party in a couple hours then to see Broadway play "Love Janis." I did my LR today 8 miles in 116 min which is a 14.5 pace. Pacing calculator says the marathon at that speed will get me to the finish in 7 hr 18 min.... :earseek: oh so close. Still hopeful though.
Must go soak and get ready to go.

Great job Lily & Mel!
I did my 6 miles today. 14:06 pace!!!!
That bus can't have me!! Well, until after the race, then it can take me wherever it wants.

MelR, awe, glad to hear I was thought of in my absence. Yes, sometimes on my long runs I would really need a distraction so IMing would be cool.
We just got home from DH's marathon. It was really perfect running weather. I think it was around 40 at start and around 50-55 when he finished. We went with friends and had a great time. DH didn't sleep much the night before, tossing and turning, but he pulled it out in the end and qualified for Boston with a time of 3:28:31!!  He is 44 years old (he needed under 3:20 time to run in 2006), but his time is good for 18 months and so when he turns 45 years old in 2007 he can use this marathon result (45-49 yo's need to qualify under 3:30:00).
Lots of washing to do!

I've grounded myself from the DIS--so I won't be posting. I've been "dry" for 3 days--and had to bust on in since I have Marathon duties to you gals.
I know with my most recent postings on the knee saga--I didn't want anyone to be worried about me....
I did 10.75 miles yesterday---run/walk the first 8--and for some reason decided to walk the last portion. My knee was getting aching--the skin was very hot to the touch since I wear compression. So I decided to walk while I had some distance left just to see how "fast" I could go.
My run was 12:46 (not a record--but first time on the road for quite a while!).
My walk was a wonderful (if I do say so myself) 16:10 pace. And that includes a little longer than normal stop for water (it was even in site when I started walking--I should have waited to start the garmin!) and stopping for a teammate who was cramping or something from stomach virus (yet--still insisted on trying for his 20---he was 11.5 in...we picked him up 2.5 miles later)--his knee swelling...and later locking....hmmm, I know what that is. But he's one of those type of men that won't see the inside of a doctors office unless it involves a collapse and an ambulance. Very sad!
Any who---so for the first time in my LIFE---I had a marathon regulation walking pace! Very exciting stuff for me. I guess in my guess that moderate meniscus tear really inhibited my abilities. I had no idea--I just thought I was stuck in granny mode on the walks.
Okay--back to resume my grounding.
I PM'd Mel (Chimera)--I will update the Trails Ends list the week before the marathon and print it out and bring it along. At some point--I may get in and PM reminders to all our reservation specialists and DDE card holders. At this moment, I anticipate on being at Trails End myself at 4pm. And somewhere along the line, I recall someone volunteering to bring labels and Pen's so we can ID who's who with Real Name and DIS Name.
Toodles!

I'm in charge of labels and pens, don't you worry.
Have been extremely label and pen like today cutting out little pictures of Segways to stick on the boyfriend's birthday card - he's got the Epcot tour as his present. It's a big birthday week for his - one of his best friends is 40 today, his birthday is Friday (not sure how well that's going to work with a 22 mile the morning after) and in 7 hours and 38 minutes, I'm 37 - not sure I'm taking it well, have been applying moisturiser in hourly intervals.
This weekends 14 miler went well - although I am confusing all running friends by training in miles. One of my friends said 'I'll run with you this weekend, what you doing' and I said 14 - it was only 90 minutes in when we didn't seem to be stopping that she twigged I meant 14 miles (ie 23km) not 14km. Anyway better go get ready for tonights 6 miler - Helen

Hi everyone-
DH and I ran the Florida Beaches HlafMarathon yesterday. It was no Disney but we got the miles in. I have to say I really struggled the last two miles which made me nervous about the upcoming full. Its weird though, we did 16 miles last weekend and felt fine. I guess every run is different.
Also, my headphones went kaput during mile 1--not good. Can anyone recommend headphones that actually stay in your ears and last??? I have the ipod and their earbuds don't stay in my ears. I've tried a few other headphones without much success. Suggestions??
I've got today off--yeah!! Can't believe only one month to go!

kaf - I know what you mean. This weeks 8 seemed just as hard as many of my L-LRs.
mel - Tarzan rocks? rotflmbo!
We did our 8. We are currently checkingo out warmer places to do our 20-miler, as I need to finish it to have my head in order for the marathon. It's looking like Indy, unless I can find a bargain flight w/hotel.
Have a great weeke everyone!

Just a quick pop in to say "hi" at the beginning of a very busy week.
Tiff -- Hope you had a great time at the circus!
Sunny -- You look awesome! :teeth:
I have to 'fess up (now that I know everything is okay ;) ). I hurt my foot pretty badly about 4 a.m. Saturday morning when I stubbed by last three toes on a very heavy box during the night in the dark (they actually pulled away from my big toe and there is still a big separation between my second toe & third :confused3 ). By 9 am, I was in a lot of pain and it was so swollen and discolored-- I took some aleve and went to the gym (so glad my shoes are so roomy). After 6 miles on the TM (14:17 pace), I could barely walk and ended up in the urgent care center for xrays Saturday night. Fortunately, I only bruised the bones and didn't break them. The doctor was a bit perturbed that I had waited all day and had TM'ed, but, with a huge smile on his face said he understood an athlete's commitment to training (I told him I only finally showed up there out of fear I'd damage the foot if I continued to walk on it and I only had 4 weeks to the 1/2). I really liked his attitude. He prescribed tylenol for arthritis for the pain alternating with ibuprofen and said to elevate and ice it. He also said to take it easy for a few days. So, I was good yesterday and will be off it at my desk most of today, then will do 60 minutes on TM tonight and see how that goes. I was really concerned because I'd broken this foot 5x over about 26 months when I was a teenager, multiple fractures every time, in that same spot (base of the toes). Soooo glad this is only very painful and not broken.
Have a great day everyone!
kaf -- I had the same problems with the earbuds. No one in my family can use them. We use the SONY ones that hook over your ears. They are about $10 and the sound is great.

Colleeen-- congrats to hubby! :cheer2: I have a pipe dream of running Boston 2007, too. I'm still banking on the theory that once I get the excess fat off I'll be fast enough! I think Lynn is contemplating 2007, too.
Kaf-- I have tried every type of ear bud including the hooks over the ears one and NONE work for me. I use the over-the-ear headphones with the behind the neck band. It makes me mad that so many people can use the buds with ear hooks and I can't :confused3
Cam-- So sorry to hear about your foot mishap. Sending :wizard: for a speed recovery.
Lisa-- Why are your grounded?
Carrie-- I wish I could fly to a warm place to do my last really long LR. Good luck!
Time to get working :(

Sunny - More than likely, we'll be driving to Indy. It's nice to dream, though.
Cam - I'd give yourself AT LEAST one more day off! It will only help you! The last thing you want to do is keep it from healing. More important to have a good LR this weekend than to have a Monday workout. :wizard:
Forgot to tell you: I think I will have 2 of my cousins at the marathon! This is amazing, because they are more than 8 years loder than mye and we were never that close growing up. On lives in the W. Palm Beach area and one lives in MI, but can fly and stay free. It's still and efort for both of them and it's pretty cool. :goodvibes The problem is, I won't have my info packet until Saturday and that's what ahs the instructions to watcher.

We are getting so close!!!! I'm really looking forward to training this week, I really think not running from Saturday-Thursday last week helped me out, if I wasn't in the mood this week, I would be in BIG trouble. :) I did 6 miles on the treadmill Saturday morning, it was a nice run, I really like the constant speed on treadmill, because then I can't slow down. There were a couple times I wanted to slow my running pace down, but by the time I finished that run cycle and walked for 2 minutes, I talked myself out of the slower pace. I don't know my exact time, when I was at 3.88 miles, I hit a button and it stopped the treadmill and reset the time and mileage. ARGH!!!! I started the treadmill back up and did 2.20 miles, but I don't know my exact time. It was kind of heartbreaking because I had been watching the minutes and the mileage go up and all of the sudden I was back at 0:00 again. Oh, well, I get another crack at the treadmill tonight, since I have 50 minutes (my first 4r/1w!! :Pinkbounc ) and the high today is 29 degrees. :cold:
Cam--Ouch!!!! Sorry about your foot!! I hope you are feeling better. Don't push yourself if starts hurting tonight. Can you tape it up or anything?
Sunny--Great pictures!! And look at all that snow!!! Wow!! You probably laughed at me when I was talking about getting 6 inches of snow and how it basically shut Cincinnati down.
Carrie--I hope you can find someplace warm for this weekend. Check the weather before you book Indy though, they were saying on the news last night that Cincinnati might get another snow storm later in the week and we're pretty close to Indy. Of course snow to you and snow to me are 2 totally different things! Good luck!!
Colleen--Yay for your hubby!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: Tell him we're all proud of him. Is he running Disney?
Terri--You have 20 nieces and nephews??? How many siblings do you have??? I have 4 sisters (my poor Dad had to live with 6 women :teeth: ), 7 of the 8 nieces and nephews are "mine" and the 8th is Stephen's sister's little boy.
Mel--I bet you're happy today with the Bucs (although I know how sad Susan must be), Stephen and I are crossing our fingers for a wildcard spot, but do you know when wildcard weekend is??? Grrr. Good luck with 12 this weekend. :wizard:
I better get to work, I'm excited because this is my last full week of work until January 16. Good luck training today!!!!

I hope everyone had succesful long runs this weekend. It was a short training weekend for me with 8 miles on Saturday and 12 on Sunday.
My treadmill was injured in the line of duty, so I have the serviceman coming out on Wednesday. I admit to being in a state of panic without it :rotfl2:
This weekend will be my last 20 mile run on Sunday, with 10 miles on Saturday. I'm just hoping I don't succumb to the cold that is trying to invade my body before that time.
It is unbelievable how close the race is now. With the holidays nearly upon us, it'll be here before you know it.
Best of luck to you all on the remaining training before the taper.

Krista - I only have 2 sisters. My oldest sis has 3 kids (and her oldest has 2).
My other sis has 12 kids (she always wanted a dozen) and her oldest has 3.
Makes for a fun (although expensive) Christmas.
Cam - I'd give that foot another day of rest. Better safe than sorry. Sending :wizard: your way.
Colleen - congrats to hubby for a great marathon. :cool1:
Well, I'm off to therapy for the darn quad. Think I aggravated it last week on the TM. Hoping the ultrasound and electric stim work today.

I did 10 miles on Thursday...walking one and running one (my lifetime high). But I've been having fairly significant knee pain ever since and I'm mildly panicking about not being ready for the half if I need to cut back on training in the coming weeks. I need advice!
I have a distant history of knee problems in my early 20's that was so bad I even walked with a cane for a while until I got PT and chiropractic help back then. I assumed then that I would/could never be a runner. When I started training for the half marathon this year (at the age of 35), it was the first time I had run in 15 years...I researched and bought motion-control shoes (Brooks' Ariel)...I slowly built up (very slowly, I was only at 1-3 miles for months until recently, my longest distances have been 6, 8 and 10 miles, mostly walking--and those distances have occurred only once each in the past 3 weeks). I thought I had conquered my knee problems--until last Thursday when I pushed my distance higher.
I've been resting ever since and haven't exercised since Thursday. From reading a little, I think  it is a combination of illiotibial band and patello-femoral type problems...I know that I'm supposed to stretch by putting one leg over the other to the side, but I can barely feel any stretch from that (I do it anyway). I'm not savvy on the ice vs heat issue...is ice helpful at all at later stages or just right after a run? Should I use ace bandages...or open-patella compression devices...should I walk-only for a while...should I keep jogging/walking...should I rest-only until the pain subsides completely? I'm feeling time pressure because I was planning on doing my "real" distance training this week and next but I don't want to make my knees worse before the half!! Any suggestions?? :scared:

OK, so last week I was hating everything. I was one big whine. I hated the weather, I hated my route (too many hills), I hated "having" to go out and run, I hated the cross training, I hated my runny nose, I hated my clothes, I hated my shoes, I hated my blisters, I hated pretty much eveything to do with this race. On Sat. I had to drag myself out to the road to do my eight miles.
BUT... somewhere along that road, my attitude improved. I had a good run and must've gotten enough endorphins to quit hating everything. I guess it had to happen sooner or later... I'm a little surprised it took this long to get to the point where I just balked and started hating life. But today I'm back on track and actually looking forward to this weekend's LR's of 10 and 20. After all it is basically the last step on a very long, strange journey that we've all been on this past year.
So I'm excited but also a little sad. I'm happy to have made it this far and be completing the training and I'm so excited about the races, but I'm also a little sad that it's almost all over. I'm an emotional whack job.
BTW does anyone else feel like the long distnaces might be giving them more vivid dreams? Lately I've been having really vivid and stange dreams (not necessarily marathon related, just generally weird) and the only thing that's changed is that the mileage has ramped up. It's like being on some strange drug trip. I wake up going "What the... was THAT all about?" It's probably just me.
Happy training all.

Good afternoon everyone!!
Colleen- Wow!! WTG to your husband. Congrats!  He must be very excited indeed.
Carrie- LOL... you weren't kidding about going somewhere warmer!! I don't know how much warmer it'll be in Indy, but it HAS to be warmer than here.
The Alabama trip was amazing. So glad I had to opportunity to go (even if it was definately a working trip)-- and I even got snow free runs in!!! It was fairly cold, but not nearly as cold as it was here. Our entire group just groaned on the plane yesterday when we came through the clouds and saw the snow. Sigh.
I'm keeping to my plan of just doing the best I can in the time I have available to me. I'm going to do indoor track runs Mon-Wed, then hit the dreaded treadmill Thurs-Mon when I'm in Toronto. My 20 miler will be Tuesday 12/20. Trying to stay confident about being able to finish, even though I should be doing more than I am to prepare.
Back to work--
Happy training all!

How old are your shoes? When my shoes get the least little bit worn I have both foot and knee pain. As for treatment, rest and ice plus an anti inflammatory like ibuprofen do the trick for me. If your pain persists I would see a doctor. That way you will get a proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment. You could do more harm than good if you try to self-diagnose. I was lucky and very basic changes got rid of my knee pain. Good luck!

I did 8.3 on the TM today. The first 7 at 6.3mph/0.5 incline and the last mile at 7.2 mph (8:20) with .3 cool down. It was nearly effortless. I'm loving it

Good job on the long runs this weekend everyone. Take care of those aches and pains(including Sara's injured in the line of duty dreadmill ;) )
Congrats to your husband Colleen. Sunny's right, I don't think I'll make my Boston time at Disney so I'll probably try for 2007 with a fall marathon. I have to run a 3:40.59 or faster. The age group-related time won't change for me until 2009.
Helen wrote, "This weekends 14 miler went well - although I am confusing all running friends by training in miles. One of my friends said 'I'll run with you this weekend, what you doing' and I said 14 - it was only 90 minutes in when we didn't seem to be stopping that she twigged I meant 14 miles (ie 23km) not 14km."- rotfl over this.
I've raced up in Canada enough that I'm used to translating the distances back and forth. If you think 42 k for a marathon sounds long, the 180 k for an ironman bike sounds even worse. In metric, an ironman is 4 k swim, 180 k bike, and 42 k run and you'all thought 2.4 miles, 112 miles, 26.2 miles sounded bad. On the bright side, km splits make it seem like you're flying compared to mile splits.
Cam, glad to hear you didn't break your toes/foot. I have another song for your inspirational collection. It's titled Welcome to Wherever You Are and it's off Bon Jovi's newest album, Have a Nice Day.
Maybe we’re all different but we’re all still the same
We all got the blood of Eden running through our veins
I know sometimes it’s hard for you to see
You’re caught between just who you are and who you want to be
If you feel alone and lost and need a friend
Remember every new beginning is some beginning’s end
Welcome to wherever you are
This is your life; you made it this far
Welcome, you got to believe
That right here, right now
You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be
Welcome to wherever you are
When everybody’s in and you’re left out
And you feel you’re drowning in the shadow of doubt
Everyone’s a miracle in their own way
Just listen to yourself, not what other people say
When it seems you’re lost, alone, and feelin’ down
Remember, everybody’s different; just take a look around
Welcome to wherever you are
This is your life; you made it this far
Welcome, you got to believe
Right here, right now
You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be
Be who you want to be
Be who you are
Everyone’s a hero
Everyone’s a star
When you want to give up and your heart’s about to break
Remember that you’re perfect; God makes no mistakes
Welcome to wherever you are
This is your life; you made it this far
Welcome, you got to believe
Right here, right now
You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be
I say welcome…
I say welcome…
Welcome…
Probably ought to study some more for tomorrow's exam, so long for now.

Disneefun, so glad things turned better. Hoping my long one is good this weekend.

I have so not been able to keep up with you guys since our trip last month. Amazing how far behind one can get in 10 days off the boards.....
Cam, sorry to hear about your toe. Hope it heals quickly.
Chimera, yup, Tarzan Rocks! DH thinks Jane rocks! Too bad they will be closing that show soon.
Sunny, I remember chooing our tree under those conditions. This year we got ours at Publix. Just not the same here in FL. The good news is that so far the furbabies :cat: :cat: have alloed it to stand! Only lights on it though - ornaments would be way too tempting! You should see what they do to the magnets on the fridge!
Did some fun xtraining Sat. Went to Busch Gardens for an ACE (American Coaster Enthusiasts) event on Sheikra. We had 90 min of ERT which means we were the only ones riding and there were only about 60 of us so it was sprint to coaster, sprint up 3 flights of stairs ride twice, sprint down stairs, sprint around to ride entrance, repeat about 10 times. Spend the rest of the day walking around the park and riding other coasters. We were exhausted after the long day and 90 min drive home! Good news was that I was able to keep up with the group which I would not have been able to do before I started training with you guys!
Good luck everyone on the final weeks of your training! You are all such an inspiration to me. I am really looking forward to being a participant in 2007. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hey, Lily! congrats on the 4 in an hour. You are way ahead of the sweeper! Wish we were doing the half together!
My foot held up fine tonight on the TM. Did 4.09 miles in 1 hour exactly (14:40 pace). Don't you hate that you lose 12-18 seconds at the beginning when the TM is getting up to speed? I feel like it is crawling! Had to change TMs after the first 20 minutes tonight because there were lumps under the belt and some dragging and I figured if I was going to be reading a book and listening to music, I couldn't worry about my footing.
Have a great night, all! :grouphug:

Mel or Cam - I forget which of you was looking for the Snickers Marathon Bars awhile back. I know you found them in a store. I was out shopping tonight and saw a different bar. This one is the Snickers Marathon Protein Bar. First time I've seen that one. It's a little bigger than the other bars (and pricier $2.89). It's got 26g of Protein. May come in handy. I bought two to check it out and see if I like it as much as the others. Just an FYI.
Oh - I saw them in a Dicks Sproting Goods store by the register lane.

OK - I was supposed to do 10 wed/ 20 thurs, but Sarah (EC's mom is sick and she is having to go out of town) so I did my 20 today (Sarah watched the boy) I have only done 2 back to back LR's one 8/17 and one 10/20. Should I try to do 10 tomorrow or should I just forget it and call it good???? I'm not sure what my bod can handle after the 20!
And finally... I wanted to convey this story to everyone. (I might be emotional from the 20 miles alone and the scrapbook I spent hours working on for family Christmas presents - don't worry, my family does not read the disboard) (picture me tearing up - i am) I was telling Phil this week about how john bingman was going to be a disney and he grinned and said he thought it was cool that i had all of these new running heroes (referring to jb and hal higdon and whoever else there is) Anyway, I told him tonight that I do have a bunch of new running heroes. They are you guys. I really admire everyone for all of the hard work and excessive commitment! I especially admire the self-proclaimed former couch potatoes (sp? where is dan quail when you need him?) and everyone who has worked so hard to make changes in their lifestyles to become true atheltes. You guys really are an inspiration and I cannot wait to meet my new running, wogging, walking heroes in person in just a few weeks!

O.k. Mel R- picture me tearing up as I read your post. You & everyone else on this board is my hero.
I am a former couch potato who is doing the 1/2. I am proud to have gotten myself off the couch! This event has kicked it into gear for me. I plan on being "fit & fabulous" not "fat & flabby" I have found other races to do in the coming year to keep it up until WDW comes around again. You guys have been my inspiration! I thought only elite runners/athletes could do what we are training to do. You guys showed me that even a SAHM who had never even done a 5k could train to do this really cool thing (and actually enjoy doing it) I am in awe of all of you and thank you for getting me off that couch and saving me from myself. I will not have a heart attack or diabetes by 40. I will have completed several 1/2 marathons, tons of 5k's,a 15k, a few Tri's and maybe even go for the Mickey in 2007! And it is all because of you. Everyone has been so supportive & helpful and I would not have gotten this far without you.
Everyone in my life has been very supportive of my new hobby, but it's different because you guys are actually going thru it with me. So-THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I can't wait till Trails End! Maybe talking to everyone will keep me from overeating the night before the race. Because one thing I can do better than eat is talk. :goodvibes
Lisa-why are you grounded? come back to us, we need you.

Good morning, everyone!!! Are we ready for another fun-filled day? :sunny: I had a great run on the treadmill last night (did I just type that??), it didn't start out so wonderful--I was a dummy and drank 24 oz of water from 3:30-5:00, I went to the bathroom as soon as I got home at 5:30, took Hines out and fed him, put on my running clothes, went to the bathroom again, and then got on the treadmill. Literally 1 minute into my run, I had to go again and I knew I couldn't hold it for 50 minutes, so I had to stop the treadmill and go upstairs to use the bathroom. So I used the bathroom 4 times in an hour's time. Moral of the story: stop drinking water at 4:00!!! :rotfl: Okay, so bathroom issues resolved, I get back on the treadmill and about 4 minutes into my run, my foot starts cramping. Grrr. So I stop the treadmill AGAIN, get off and loosen my ankle brace and my shoe laces. We are finally ready to rock and roll. :rockband: After I worked through all of my issues, my run was great. I did r4/w1 for the very first time and it wasn't bad at all, for the first 25 minutes, every run period I alternated running at 5.2 (11:32) and 5.3 (11:16) and I was walking at 4.3 (13:57); from 25 minutes until 40 minutes I ran at 5.3 and walked at 4.4 and the last 10 minutes I ran 5.4 for 4 minutes, walked 4.4 for 2 minutes so it would even up and I would end running, the last 4 minutes I ran at 5.5 and then 5.6. I ended up doing 4.24 miles, which I was happy with, but tonight my goal is to go a smidge faster and do 4.50 miles. Oh, and let me tell you how to guarantee a cry during your run or walk: watch the WDW planning DVD's--it's a sure fire sob fest!!
MelR--You are so sweet!!! You are a inspiration to me!! I can't believe all the adventure races you do and taking the boy kayaking and rock climbing--that's the kind of mom I want to be!! Even though you make me sick with all of your "I'm so skinny" stories. :teeth: I'm pretty thin too, but I definitely work at it!! I can't wait to meet you in 24 days. I can't wait to meet all of you in 24 days!
Carrie--THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all of the work you've done on our shirts. I know what a headache it must of been!! Have you figured out what you are doing this weekend?
Lynne--Good luck with your exams!!! :wizard: Did I read that you are doing your 20 miler in WDW? First the Bon Jovi concert and now you're going to WDW? I just want you to know that I hate you. ;)
Cam--How's the foot?
I'd love to chat some more, but we are short staffed at work today, so I may actually have to earn my keep. Good luck training!!!

Hi, everyone! Thanks for all the good wishes and concern about my foot. It is so much better today and the bruising is yellow now and the swelling is much improved -- good thing since I am in heels today! :teeth:
It is insanely busy at work, but I wanted to thank Carrie for all her work on the shirts -- it is going to feel like Christmas when they arrive! And I wanted to second Melissa's sentiments about heroes. It has been such a horrible year for our family in so many ways; having you all here to encourage me in my quest to take control of something and to maintain enthusiasm for such a lofty goal (for me) is absolutely a miracle. So, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. :grouphug: :lovestruc

Holy cow! It was 2 degrees here with the wind chill this morning. Going out to feed the horses at 5:30am I HAD to wonder what the HECK is wrong with us? Why don't we move South?!?! :sunny:
Well, I know why. My husband has four reasons. :flower:
But anyway....
Cam...Wow, sorry to hear about your foot. And I so hear you about those first few seconds on the TM getting up to speed. I like to think that my impatience is a good thing in this case. :teeth:
I have a funny story that only my DIS WISH friends would appreciate...
Sunday I was so tired and sore from SHOVELING SNOW (UGGGH!) that I didn't get on the TM until later in the afternoon. We have a small tv in front of the TM (Hey, two episodes of Golden Girls and I am done! :rotfl: ). On Sunday morning I had been reading Hal Higdon's book and had just finished the chapter on focusing, which quite honestly I don't do much. My walking is mostly mindless wandering then an "Oh wow, I've been on the TM for 35 minutes!" It's always a nice suprise but probably a bad habit. So I was determined to start paying attention.
However, I turned on the tv just in time for the start of the Travel Channel's "Behind The Scenes At WDW" :Pinkbounc :bounce: Which I had never seen! :earseek:
So I watched the entire show while on the TM and I couldn't tell you a THING about my walk. I was so engrossed in the show I never even payed attention once to my walking. :rotfl:
Say, does anyone know if you can buy a DVD of that show? :bitelip:
But this morning I did pay attention. OK maybe not for the entire 40 minutes. But at least I remembered that I was supposed to stay focused.
Baby steps, Honeibee, baby steps.

I went to a specialized running store last night and inquired about my knee pain/illiotibial problem...the little cute running guy had me try on 3 different pairs of shoes, including the pair I already own (Brooks' Ariel) and then watched me run (his initial thought was that my current shoe might provide "too much" motion control). After watching me run repeatedly, he finally came to the conclusion that the Ariel was indeed probably the best shoe for me (he said it provided the most over-pronation support of just about any shoe out there) and probably my knee problems were a combination of upping my milage and worn shoes. My Ariels are only about 3-4 months old, so I thought I'd get a little more wear out of them, but at this point I'm willing to try anything that will solve the problem and keep me training--so I plunked down another $110 for a new pair. I also ordered a set of "PattStraps" (that go above the knee) off the internet after doing some research. He also showed me a different stretch for the ITB (putting your leg up on a table at a weird angle) that I could actually feel (versus the ones always suggested in the books/internet that I couldn't feel).
He advised me to only use my running shoes for running in order to extend their useful life...I guess you're not supposed to use your good support shoes for walking around WDW for 3 weeks (my big trip 2 months ago)... :rolleyes1
I hope this works...

I'm getting in on the group hug here! :grouphug:
It's funny how I feel more accountable to you guys, who I don't even know, than to people I see everyday. Sometimes I feel guilty posting on here if I haven't done my workout that day (what will THEY think?).
Most of my family and friends think I'm  for trying the Goofy. But you all understand.
Since others have posted their fave songs, I'll tell you one of mine. It's not a fast, up-tempo song but I take it as kind of my new motto. It's Tim McGraw's "Live Like You Were Dying". It's just the message of don't take anything for granted. Never know what's around the bend. So pick a challenge and just do it. No what if's, no regrets.
I'm thinking of putting that on my ipod, about every 15th song, to motivate me throughout the races. If my song calculations are right, I'll hear that song about 5 times during the marathon.
Just wanted to say THANKS! for being here and providing support and accountability for me.
Carrie - Thanks for a great job with the shirts. Can't wait to get them. :)

It sound like I hear taper coming! It sounds like everyone has just 1 more LLR and/or SLR and then taper time! :cool1: Just a warning....I can see some of you thinking you will not taper like you are supposed to. It freaks some people out to drop milage, but DO IT! Evil Queen says just do it.....or you will be sorry come the day of the 1/2 or full marathon. princess:
Bree, DH, and I have our last biggie this weekend. 12 and 24 :earseek: miles Thursday (if we don't get the ice storm) and 24 Friday. If the ice comes we will do 12 Friday and 24 Saturday. Most programs do not take you to 24, but Ron's does. If we do this, I will feel great about WDW Goofy!
Just been swimming, running SLOW, and biking this week.

I've been thinking about my favorite running songs and some inspirational sayings since we've been talking about this lately. So I thought I'd throw my favorite into the pot and see what you think. I highlighted my favorite parts. :)
We're Not Gonna Take It--Twisted Sister
Oh we're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
Oh we're not gonna take it anymore
We've got the right to choose and
There ain't no way we'll lose it
This is our life, this is our song
We'll fight the powers that be just
Don't pick our destiny 'cause
You don't know us, you don't belong
Oh we're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
Oh we're not gonna take it anymore
Oh you're so condescending
Your gall is never ending
We don't want nothin', not a thing from you
Your life is trite and jaded
Boring and confiscated
If that's your best, your best won't do
Oh.....................
Oh.....................
We're right/yeah
We're free/yeah
We'll fight/yeah
You'll see/yeah
oh we're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
Nh we're not gonna take it anymore
Oh we're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
Oh we're not gonna take it anymore
No way!
Oh.....................
Oh.....................
We're right/yeah
We're free/yeah
We'll fight/yeah
You'll see/yeah
We're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
We're not gonna take it, no!
No, we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
Just you try and make us
We're not gonna take it
Come on
No, we ain't gonna take it
You're all worthless and weak
We're not gonna take it anymore
Now drop and give me twenty
We're not gonna take it
Oh crinch pin
No, we ain't gonna take it
Oh you and your uniform
We're not gonna take it anymore

Have I ever mentioned how much I love roller coasters? Fast ones, tall ones, ones with loops, ones with a really neat theme- oh wait, that's the new Expedition Everest that the DVC preview weekend is Jan 26-29. I actually looked up the cost of airfare on Southwest after I read the dates in the Vacation Magic email.
X-trained by watching the pilot for Surface that I downloaded in iTunes. Up until Sunday night I had been really good and only spent the money that I had put into it in iTunes cards but I really wanted the Bon Jovi cd so I finally put credit card info in. Bad Lynne :badpc: I didn't really want to watch anything I owned tonight while riding nor was I all that motivated to ride so I bargained with myself that I would download the episode and watch it while riding.
Motivational music- the new Bon Jovi isn't my favorite it just seemed kind of appropriate for this group. Another one is Melissa Etheridge, I Run for Life that was written for the Komen Race for the Cure series.
It's been years since they told her about it
The darkness her body possessed
And the scars are still there in the mirror
Everyday that she gets herself dressed
Though the pain is miles and miles behind her
And the fear is now a docile beast
If you ask her why she is still running
She'll tell you it makes her complete
CHORUS
I run for hope
I run to feel
I run for the truth
For all that is real
I run for your mother your sister your wife
I run for you and me my friend I run for life
It's a blur since they told me about it
How the darkness had taken its toll
And they cut into my skin and they cut into my body
But they will never get a piece of my soul
And now I'm still learning the lesson
To waken when I hear the call
And if you ask me why I am still running
I'll tell you I run for us all
CHORUS
And someday if they tell you about it
If the darkness knocks on your door
Remember her remember me
We will be running as we have before
Running for answers
Running for more
However, my absolute all time favorite motivational music is Van Halen's Right Now. Check it out in iTunes. USA Swimming, back when it was still USS, made a video to this at the 1986(I think) Olympic Trials, and the summer I worked at Stanford Swim Camps we showed it to the kids to really hype them up. Our secret though was that it did the same thing for the coach/counselors(we were both). It's one of the few videos that could choke me up.
Thanks for the PD for the exams. Today's went well- the ones from that department can be variable in quality and this seemed okay. We have 7 hours of lecture tomorrow, 5 of it on AIDS, 1 on lymphomas(for the 3rd time) and an hour on the immunocomprised patient. Then we have Thurs off to study(pack for break and WDW, let's prioritize now) and the Hematology system exam is Friday at 10. It seems that this semester has flown by since we came back August 3rd. Training for the marathon and trips to WDW and DC on October probably helped. Next semester will be: cardiovascular, renal, gastrointestinal, reproductive, endocrine, and then 3 days of emergency medicine, 2 of ACLS, and capstone. Pharmacology is a longitudinal course embedded in each system plus Experiences in Doctoring and Osteopathic Principles and Practice II run all year. Then it will be Boards. :scared1: That will require mega PD because I'm headed for a competitive specialty. Believe it or not, I actually do something other than surf the net and train. Mom doesn't think so at times but I got invited into the Geek club so I must be doing something right. Oh well, time to cook some din din, study a little more, and watch the finale of Amazing Race.

I couldn't decide if i needed to try the back to back lr's in reverse order after i hastily did my last 20 mile lr or not! I ended up putting on my running clothes this evening and set out for an 8 miler (around the block about 20 times) I ran two miles - having no trouble maintaining an 11:00 min/mile and then i thought about how long it was going to take me and how much i had to do and how phil told the boy we would go look at Christmas lights tonight, so I came inside and ditched the run! I'm just going to start my taper and call it done! I hope that was enough, but I'm sure not doing any more lr's to see! I did the two lr's a few weeks ago and it was fine!
I'm thinking that my body will do better with the rest than the tearing down!
Colleen - i can see how taper time would mess w/ your mind! I don't think i'd be too worried if i was like christa and bree and did a 12/24 but i think i'm going to obsess as to whether the 10/20 was enough! OH WELL. I guess i'll find out. Awesome songs, awesome statements. MelR - It must be the scrapbooking. ;) You're 100% right. I am in awe of everyone here who has changed their life and is on their way to accomplishing what they once thought was impossible.
Lately, I have been telling more people abbout the marathon Yes, it seems to be ruling my life. My boss, who is in his late 30s and use dto run asked me how long I though the marathon would take. I told him 5 to 5.5 hours. His jaw just dropped. "That's a long time." Duh....
Another story, my dh and I were talking as we started our 18-miler that was not to be. He told me that his friend at work thinks I'm amazing. OK, why? They were talking and she asked how far he was running now. He told her we had just done 16 miles. "16 Miles! CArrie too? That's amazing. Tell her she's amazing." Now, I've never met this woman, but she thinks I'm amazing. OK.
The best part was Monday after that 18 that wasn't. He came home and said,"Trang wanted me to tell you that she still thinks you're amazing." How nice was that?
OK, on to more important things. Last night was the worst night on earth for dh and I to add an extra chore. DH gladly took on teh post office trip, though. He is a saint. My end was just finidng the nearest post office to wher he was gettign his hair cut. That was even hard to fit in yesterday! Well, his stylist was behind, which never happens. She had had a very eventful day, so she talked long and he was a little late getting out. He stillw ent out of his way to get there, but did not make it until 5:05. It closed at 5.
I have a post office that I can see out my window today, though. I know it's open much past 5 too. So, they will all be mailed today. It's been a rough week, so I should mention that the shirts look AWESOME! My nightmare that Sunny, teh shirt place and me all missed a typo did not come true. Dh said he was impressed by the job teh printer did. He does not impress easily. They do look great!
The othe rthing I wanted to mention was that I intened to hav enoce little personal notes in there to everyone. Well, it was get them in the envelopes to get them mailed or delay until tomorrow to mail with little notes. I took the quicker route.
So, here's my message to you all:
Thank you for getting me though this year of ups and downs. Thank you for picking my up after a stonker and sharing in my joy fo rthe big runs. We've all come so far adn I am so proud to be a part of this team. Each and every one of you is a big dog to me!!!!! (Blame MelR for starting this stuf. ;) )

I need to go back and read my underachievers philosophy from earlier to remember that i just want to finish :sunny:That is currently my goal! Please, somehow.
Carrie, THANK YOU! (DH too) for taking on the massive project. I am sorry that it got a bit overwhelming this week. …asked me how long I thought the marathon would take. I told him 5 to 5.5 hours. His jaw just dropped. "That's a long time." OMG! I can’t believe it! I am planning on the entire 7 hours! :earseek:
Right now I am feeling overwhelmed. I am terrified of doing my LR this weekend (first 20-miler). I cannot wait to have the weekend behind me. I am afraid because I began to slow with my last LR (18-miler) and I fear my pace will even be slower and I will have the realization that I won’t be able to make the time. I will have a full load of determination, just wish it were over and that I will KNOW and FEEL I can do it.

At least you completed your 18 Lily. I am planning on going very slow to start the 20. Getting the steps in is teh major key mentally and physically.
You will get there! You must believe it to achieve it!
Side note: Not harping on teh bad 18-miler. I think I needed that to get my non LR training in gear again. Mentally, I think it helped me turn a corner.
I'm sure the adernaline rush and run-deprivation will pick me up (pace wise) at WDW. Dh adn I are trying to fgure out a max pace for the marathon. I'm thinking we stick to that pace until after we hit 20. If we feel great tehn (lol), we'll pick it up.
Wasn't trying for synmpathy when posting about the shirts. I just feel bad that they did not get mailed yesterday as promised. Dh helped. It really has not been that big of a deal.

Carrie - thanks so much for tackling the shirts project - much appreciated!! Especially with the time of year and the intense training right now.
Lily - Loads of :wizard: for your LR this weekend. It truly is mind over matter. I get scared too sometimes by the number. Let the mind lead and the body will follow. Fear is the only thing that limits us. Dare to dream!!
You guys are killing me getting all sappy :grouphug: Even though I am a latecomer to this wonderful group, I want to thank you all so much for your inspiration. That's why I get emotional about the marathon - It's just a bunch of ordinary people deciding to do an extraordinary thing together.
My treadmill was fixed this morning so I am looking forward to getting on it this evening.

Carrie - thanks for your (and DH's) work with the shirts. I can't wait to see them!
Sara- I've never run the Philly marathon. WDW will be my 1st. However, I've worked the marathon for the past 6 years. It takes you through all parts of Philly, along the Kelly and MLK Drives (which is my 8.4 mile training loop), and through parts of Fairmount Park. There were about 11,000 this year.
They also have a relay category, if anyone is interested. The legs are 10 miles, 4 miles, 6 miles and 6.2 miles. There were 150 relay teams this year.
If I can find one of the brochures, I'll send it to you.

Thanks Terri - I'd really appreciate that :sunny: I am 99.9% positive at this time that I'll be running it. It's between that and the Marine Corp Marathon in October.
I've lived in the Northeast all of my life and have never been to Philly. I think it's high time I went.
Hey all!
Lots of PD flying around here. I'm amazed @ your dedication, what with your demanding jobs & school work, you still get time to train. I've been sneaking out of work early quite a bit lately, to get my runs in b4 DS gets home from school.
A word of caution - a 44 y/o jogger went missing here in CT on Mon. evening. Her husband said she left around 4:30, as usual, & when she wasn't home in 3 hours he went out on her usual route to look for her. I'm sure you know where this is headed...well, they found here body in an old shed or barn on a remote part of some guys property in a tiny town here in CT. :guilty:
Maybe w/ the onset of darkness so early, we should all carry some pepper spray or somthing. I did carry this, back when I was running early a.m.s, but since the weather & time change I run in the afternoon. I never thought I had to worry about that time of day, until now. Stay alert out there.
It's getting down to the wire, huh? I'm so nervous about my 10 LR this Sat., I hope it "feels" good. Every time I run well on a LR I always thin it's a fluke & the "real" Jodi's body will kick in soon & I'll be doggin' it. But so far, that hasn't happened.
I hate to admit because you all are so upbeat, but I'm getting tired of staying on this training schedule. It's getting harder to get excited about the 2 runs during the week, the CT I don't mind. Am I the only party pooper here? I keep thinking about the Polynesian & just getting there (1st time). It won't be long now. I need to run this 1/2 marathon soon b4 I start thinking I can't do it.
Yay, more snow & freezing rain tomorrow!!!
Jodi
Boy that's one depressing post...Sorry, guys!

I'm starting to think of composing my race playlist now, too. Definitely need to strategically place the major motivators! I'm loving all the lyrics that have been posted lately.
MelR-- I'm sure your early taper will be fine. You've been training hard for so long I bet your body needs the extra rest.
Carrie-- Thanks for the shirt update and all th work!
Lilly-- I am terrified of my LR this week, too. Not because of the distance but because it will be on the TM. I am thinking about it constantly. Will I be able to force myself to stay on it? Doing an out and back run is so much easier to force because you only have to force the first half, the second half is mandatory!!!!! But the TM can be stepped off of at any point
Well I am making the most of my final push week. I have racked up 25.5 miles in the past three days plus two solid hours of intense "jello-izing" weight sessions! I did 8.3 miles on Monday, 8.2 miles yesterday and just back now from a 9 miler. All on the TM  I have to say, though, I am now conditioned to think on hour on the TM is no big deal. I did the first two runs at 6.2mph/0.5 incline with small burst at 7.0mph, today I did at 6.5mph/0.5 incline with one mile at 7.2 mph. I'm icing the knee as I speak
I'm doing the mLRs just incase I wimp out of my 22 miler!

I have to join in the motivational song thing. Here's my current fav. It's called "All or Nothing" by Athena Cage and it's from the "Save the Last Dance" movie soundtrack.
All or Nothing
Heres the chance of life
Get ready, set, fly
High
Above the fear of your mind
Go for it its hit or miss
Too late for you to quit
You gotta show them how bad you really want this
Live your dreams
It's not as hard as it may seem
You gotta work to get the c.r.e.a.m
On your hopes you must lean
From your fears
You have to win yourself
It's all or nothing
Give your everything
You are what you believe
You've got to bring the heat
Set the pace
Competition: take the lead
This is it all eyes on you
So stay on point and prove
That you deserve what's long overdue
Live your dreams
It's not as hard as it may seem
You gotta work to get the c.r.e.a.m
On your hopes you must lean
From your fears
You have to win yourself
It's all or nothing
Give your everything
My heart is still recovering
From Heartbreak of another kind
I'm still drying my tears
Getting over my own fears
In my life
I wanna make sure this time
That I'm strong enough
To give it my all
Live your dreams
It's not as hard as it may seem
You got to work to get the c.r.e.a.m
On your hopes you must lean
From your fears
You have to win yourself
It's all or nothing
Give your everything
Live your dreams
Live your dreams
It's not as hard as it may seem
(no, no)
You gotta work to get the c.r.e.a.m
On your hopes you must lean
From your fears
You have to win yourself
It's all or nothing
(I say it's all or nothing)
Give your everything
Live your dreams
(You gotta live your dreams)
It's not as hard as it may seem
You gotta work to get the c.r.e.a.m
On your hopes you must lean
From your fears
You have to win yourself
It's all or nothing
Give your everything
You know you've got to live your dreams
So don't you be afraid
Sacrifice
take the lead
It's your time to shine
Please believe
'Course I'm also in love with "Playing with the Boys" by Kenny Loggins from the Top Gun movie soundtrack. Partly because of the inspiring lyrics, partly because it makes me remember a certain time in my life when I was really happy, and partly because it makes me remember the scene from the movie when all the guys were out playing beach volleyball and getting all sweaty. Whew! It doesn't make a bad way to pass a long run, thinking about that!

Jodi - think of it as only having one long run left, then the taper. I can't wait to get out there this weekend as as soon as I finish that 22 miles, that's it. I'm done, I can train no more....I'm even going to have a little taper party with myself (not quite sure what a taper party involves but....). Helen

Me, too! I have to admit my "Taper Party of One" involves snacks
Jodi-- I heard about the jogger this morning on the news. How horrible. The scary thing is knowing if a sicko is out there, it won't take him long to learn a jogger's paths and habbits. After the race I am taking up Jujitsu. My son is at a phenomenal studio. Its pricey, but I'd like to think I knew what to do if I was jumped. Aside from that depressing news, 'Be of good cheer" the hard push is almost over. You've accomplished 90% of the process by this point. The rest is the fun stuff :cheer2:

I need to go back and read my underachievers philosophy from earlier to remember that i just want to finish :sunny:
Melissa - You have done enough. It is best to taper at this point. I know you will do great...WTG for putting family first...hard to do sometimes.
Xterratri - You are so cool! I want you to be my doctor! :teeth:
Right now I am feeling overwhelmed. I am terrified of doing my LR this weekend (first 20-miler). I cannot wait to have the weekend behind me. I am afraid because I began to slow with my last LR (18-miler) and I fear my pace will even be slower and I will have the realization that I won’t be able to make the time. I will have a full load of determination, just wish it were over and that I will KNOW and FEEL I can do it.
Just start slow then taper your speed. The LR is not supposed to be fast. Take race pace then add a minute to the MPM. that should be your pace. Also, everyone has to have at least 1 hard run. Mine is normally 22, but I skipped that one this year and did the marathon.
OK...SLR is going to be Friday and LLr is Saturday. We are going to get rain/ice/snow....something so trying to wiat on the LRs. It is :cold: here. Well for us in the south.
Sunny - :wizard: to running on the TM! :scared:

Helen, Sunny, & Carrie - Thanks for the pep talk. I suppose you're right. Only 1 more LR to go, & it's only 10 miles. I'll take it down a notch & be happy w/ a 10-10:30 min. mile. I never thought of having a party for myself!! Good idea!! Hmmm....what should it include? (by that I mean what type of junk food). Maybe I'm getting a little wiggy b/c I know the training will be over soon...I need "a goal" to keep me motivated. Oh well, guess I'll have to sign up for the "Minnie Weekend" :rotfl:
Thanks guys, I truly feel better now (except for our weather).

Evil Queen - thanks for the words of encouragement. i think I will be able to get into a mentally healthy taper mode pretty soon. (by that I mean, short pleasurable runs and lots of chocolate and food!)
Lily - I know you are going to do great on your LR this weekend! It is a big deal! I would post the lyrics to "eye of the tiger" encourage you, but all I can think of are they lyrics to Weird Al's version called "Rye o'er the Kaiser"! Anyway, it worked for Rocky! Maybe if you get bored on your LR you can hum the tune either way and you will go faster
Sunny - Good luck on the treadmill!!! Maybe you can rent the Pride and Prejudice DVD and play it while you run. You would only get to Mr. Darcy's 1st proposal before you finished and then you could take it home for the grand finale!!!!
Hope everyone has a great weeked filled with THE LAST LR!!!!!!! Can't wait to hear the reports.

From reading a little, I think  it is a combination of illiotibial band and patello-femoral type problems...:
I had a lot of knee pain that turned out to be weak muscles. if i stood on one leg i was stable on just left foot but wobbly on just right foot. PT had me do single knee bends to strengthen muscles and no problems since.

Everyone is doing great. Here are my song lyrics. "Hand That Feeds" Nine Inch Nails
You're keeping in step
In the line
Got your chin held high and you feel just fine
Because you do
What you're told
But inside your heart it is black and it's hollow and it's cold
Just how deep do you believe?
Will you bite the hand that feeds?
Will you chew until it bleeds?
Can you get up off your knees?
Are you brave enough to see?
Do you want to change it?
What if this whole crusade's
A charade
And behind it all there's a price to be paid
For the blood
On which we dine
Justified in the name of the holy and the divine
Just how deep do you believe?
Will you bite the hand that feeds?
Will you chew until it bleeds?
Can you get up off your knees?
Are you brave enough to see?
Do you want to change it?
So naive
I keep holding on to what I want to believe
I can see
But I keep holding on and on and on and on
Will you bite the hand that feeds you?
Will you stay down on your knees? [8X
Hope you all like it.

Could I make a shameless plug for myself here? I have a site that does affiliate marketing, if you click through to Zappos (or any other merchant I have on there) and end up making a purchase I get a commission. It doesn't change anything about pricing/service etc. for you. Thanks!

I am in such a dilemma about it! The bike path is a xt ski path now. Someone at my gym suggested I run Mass. Ave from Lex Ctr to Harvard Square and back (19 miles) but that would be all on the road running which I have a stern rule against, especially when the roads are narrower than usual with snow banks. The sidewalks are fully cleared. Plus, it would mess up my Saturday plans. Looks like I am doomed to the TM tomorrow for hours and hours and hours.... I've actually been thinking of a way to tell the person on staff at the Y that I'm not crazy, I'm training for a marathon. I feel quite conspicuous camping out on the thing for 3 1/2 hours or more! I'll be so glad when this one is over. I never dreamed December would be so hard to run in. It was -4 dg F this morning and just now got to 22! These are January temps :cold:
What about you? Are you running outdoors?
Hey Sunny - Yeh, I'm running outside Sat. a.m. It should be a little warmer down in here in CT, about 25 or so first thing. I know what you mean about running on the road, but I don't have a choice (except the dreaded TM). I've found a route that I like, and in light of recent events, have written it out explicitly for my DH, along with my expected arrival time home. Don't forget though, Sunny, I only have 10 miles to go, not 20+. Maybe one day. Anyway, could you take a picture of that treadmill so I can see the torture chamber up close??? :rotfl: GOOD LUCK, let us know how it turns out. When I start to whine about my 10miles outside, I'll think of your situation & shut up! I swear, all of you that do LRs on TMs deserve medals NOW. I went 8 miles on one once & thought I'd die.

So I should have another nasty driving day tomorrow based on the forecast, hopefully not as bad as last Friday though. Based on the forecast, the school moved our exam from 1000 to 0800 so I'll get on the road 2 hours earlier. Ideal conditions, it will take 6.5 hours to get to pick up mom(NYcpa) and erin(Stitch_lover_Sith, who for the record I don't hate, just a little jealous of) and then another 2.5 hrs from there to Grandma's house. Then Sat morning we'll head up to the airport in Buffalo. By about 1630 Sat afternoon, we should be on the ground in Orlando, then over to OKW to check into our 'home' for the next 7 nights. I'll do my 20 miler and my 10 miler both at the World along with 1 tempo run. Those 3 workouts are probably the only ones I actually bother to do though.

Well like many of you, I am also dreading the long run this weekend--20 miles for me. But I'm looking at it as the pinnacle of training and its all downhill from there. I am also doing a great playlist for the run as well as wearing the new shoes that I got last weekend that I am loving! Want to make sure they work out before the real thing.
Did 4 today and have 5 tomorrow--nothing to sweat about. I don't know how you northerners do it in the cold/treadmill. That is one thing I can't complain about with Florida weather. Thankfully I don't have the elements working against me too.
Good luck to everyone this weekend!!

One more picture- I'm calling it double moon.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c103/xterratri/P7200004_1.jpg
I have a question though, why is it always low tide when we have the awesome full moon sunsets? There's probably a geological/meterological reason that I don't know because I'm a bio weenie.
It's nights like tonight and last night when I road home from school(I have no parking permit and it's a $100 ticket so I ride my bikie) that I love to go cross country skiing. It's so bright from the moon reflecting off the snow that you don't even use a headlamp. The only downside is what the temperature tends to do on those crystal clear nights. When it gets to zero or below(F, not celsius) it's really hard to wax skis to glide so you end up doing classical rather than skate. In some ways, I am looking forward to the marathon being over so going out skiing won't make me guilty for going off program. I'll be doing triathlon pre-season training until March when I will start the 10 week half ironman program I'm doing.
Can you tell that there is a reason I'm a multisport athlete? I don't do very well training for just one. If I didn't know the criteria, I would swear that I'm adult ADHD due to my attention span and it's not just for sports. I used to love summer school classes and grow to hate spring and fall semesters because they just went on too long. Medical school has been great because there is constant variation in the schedule especially this year with the systems.
Thanks for the PD for the drive. Hopefully I won't need it. I try and check in one more time before we are off to the World.

Lynn - I don't know the criterium either, but i'm almost positive im adult ADHD too!!! It is definitely not just with sports! And I wonder why the boy is a wildman???
Terri - Do it tomorrow!!!! You can do it and you get to take a break soon! I liked Solo's idea of picturing where we were along the course with each mile. (I'm not too good at it yet though b/c of my disney world ignorance!)

Well that's that over then, I have now officially trained for a marathon, it's time to taper. I did my 22 miler today as I have a big party to go to tonight and couldn't face doing it the morning after. I can safely say it wasnt the best run I ever had - in fact, after 15 miles it became a rather pleasant walk, and stayed that way, but I did it - and I've now practised being on my feet for 4 hours and 47 minutes!!!!!. I'm blaming my need to walk on being a year older than when I ran 20 miles two weeks ago (guess who had a birthday this week?).
So good luck to all this weekend, then that's it - after this we can do no more, we are trained up as much as we can train - woooo hoooooooooo!!! Helen

Good morning!!! Happy Friday!!!!! Guess what, last night I had a double cheeseburger and fries from McDonald's for the first time since Dec. 2004!!!! It was so good!!!!!!!! Stephen and I were driving past McDonald's and he pulled in the parking lot. I looked at him like "what are you doing?", he told me since I was training so hard this week that I deserved it. Isn't he sweet? When the cashier gave us the bag, I just stuck my head in and inhaled--the smell was heavenly!! And it was so good, I told Stephen I was tempted to not brush my teeth before going to bed so I could taste it all night. Don't worry, I brushed my teeth! :teeth: Which brings me to my next exciting news: I am having the best training week!!!! I may have become a treadmill convert, we are best friends now. I ran (well r4/w1) 50 minutes on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and I've run 13 miles so far this week, that's the furtherest I've ever run in a week. I am so pumped to do my 10 miles tomorrow morning. That my change by tomorrow morning, but right now I'm really excited. :Pinkbounc

Just a quick note -- anyone who can or is flying southwest should check for reduced fares. We just saved $120 for the exact same flights because they are doing internet special fares for January to select cities and Orlando is one of them! YIPPEE!!! No code necessary.

Cam - I thought you were gone for the weekend so I didn't post this, but I found this quote in someone's signature and I thought you would really like it!
"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." Winston Churchill
Mel - I just got it!!!! Tarzan Rocks - HA HA! Someone was merciful to give me a smaller disney guide that has pictures, so I'm reading it. You are funny!
Krista - I think I could find treadmill nirvana if mine worked! I get so antsy sitting around the house on days whene the boy is not in preschool! It would gave me a way to burn off some of my nervous energy!!!! I am trying to convince him to go kayaking with me, but he wants to stay home today. ICK - I may have to lift weights to XT today (I'd much rather con the boy into doing something outside!!!!)
I CAN"T WAIT TO READ EVERYONE's REPORTS FROM THIS WEEKEND!!!!!

Hey WISH Team Mates!
Lynne, those pics you supplied are fabulous! Thanks for going back for the lobster pot tree. :rotfl2: Oh and the double moon. Spectacular!
Safe travels and have an enjoyable trip to our travelors.
Krista, West Alexandria Road...actually I guess it is a Middletown Post Office, can't remember exactly the town/city/whatever. I just know how to get to the farm! (We are planning a trip there either the 21st or 28th of Jan--not sure which.)
Helen, Happy belated birthday!
Can't wait til this weekend is over to hear from everyone. I am going to do mine on TM, and going to try something...let ya all know how it works.
PD to us all! :wizard: :wizard:

Really rough week mentally this week, so taking it easy today, wrapping gifts for the kids. Missed my SR on Wed, then had an exploding migraine last night. The day after a vicious migraine, I always feel pretty drained, but I'm looking forward to 12 miles tomorrow. After this week, I'll be doing the regular MFM taper with everyone else.
For anyone interested in shopping at Target, they've got Champion stuff half price. I got a lime green and black long-sleeved Duo-dry jacket for 12.48, a teal one for 9.98, and a fleece hoodie for 8.98.
Helen...happy belated birthday! :wizard:
Carrie and Cam...enjoy your respective trips this weekend!
Lynne...love the lobster trap tree, but the moon picture is really cool! I'm really enjoying running at night these days with everyone's holiday decorations to look at.
Kathy...how are you feeling after your accident?
Erin...great to see you!
MelR...sorry, didn't mean to be obscure...I forget not everyone goes to WDW as much as we do ;) TheTarzan Rocks show at AK is actually closing for good sometime in Jan, so if you get a chance to see it, it's pretty cool. I love the skating 'monkeys'. What your guide may not tell you, is that Tarzan performs all his aerial stuff in just a loincloth. I always wonder how much that guy works out 'cuz I'd swear he has zero body fat :earseek:
:wizard: for all of you doing your long runs on the TM...that's BIG dog stuff! :dog:

Lisa-- Why are your grounded?
I DIS too much--and I will not say how long my session was prior to my grounding.
I popped in a bit to check on my reality tv threads as the happenings were too delicious to pass up.
I'm back off and won't be checking over the holidays.
So everyone do well with their Long runs this weekend.
I'm between a rock and a hard place as I believe my babysitter has stolen for me. All my Mary Kay cosmetics in a carrier that I had (looks a bit like a shaving bag). In all my years--I've never misplaced makeup. I was a bit harried yesterday coming home from the gym and the sitters were already here. In 15 minutes I showered, dressed, did my hair and makeup. I go today to put on my makeup and it has vanished. I have searched everywhere but there is really no place it could be. We totally decluttered last weekend and we had a maid service come on Wednesday. So the house is in tip top shape. :guilty:
I called the girls mother to ask her to ask her daughter if she knows anything about it--but I was just short of accusing her of stealing...I mean--how else do you say that it is impossible for it to have been misplaced. My usual MO for when I'm in a hurry is to just leave my makeup as is on the counter.
No idea where it could be. So terrible!
Any who--I'm sure this mother will think I'm a real prize now for even thinking it possible for her child to steal. But sadly--that's the burden of doing a service in someone elses home. :guilty:
Mel - :wizard: PD on the migraine thing, my sister gets those wicked bad.
Helen - Happy BIRDTHDAY!!!! Hope you had fun at your party.
Ok, 10 miles tomorrow. First time since August I've done this much...I'm scared :earseek: Tomorrow night I will be on :cloud9: knowing that we are only 3 weeks away from the 1/2.
Can't wait to check in tomorrow to see how everyone did w/ their LRs.
Cam - You'll almost be done with yours by now
Sunny - Good luck on that TM. ugh

I'm dying to hear from everyone after their last LR. I know I got a little emotional. I think from weeks of exhaustiion and or course the looking through old photos for the photo book. But it really was an emotional thing to be done with that last lr and to know that was all i could do to get ready. !!!! I'm partway there with my last LR's. Today I did 10 miles at a very easy pace. It turned out to be a nice day, so perfect for taking it a little slower (no rushing to get in out of the cold or wind). Tomorrow I go back out and do my 20 and then I'm done. Then it's Goofy here I come!!! Adding to the excitement of the weekend -- I got my park tickets from Ticketmania today!!! That makes it real (not that the whopping charge on my CC for the tickets wasn't a dose of reality, but there's something about having them in hand...)
Good luck everybody on your LR's this weekend!!

Helen
Helen, First, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Second, Thank you and THANK YOU! First you brought me Scooter, then you posted this innocent little post-- probably typed off the top of your head. I read it last night right before going to bed and it struck me as so profound. I could totally feel the sense of satisfaction you were feelling having completed your training and getting in that final 22 miler. So off I went this morning, determined to do the same...
I DID IT!!!! 22 miles on the TM. I have to admit, I hope to never ever, EVER run 22 miles on a TM again. It was beyond grueling. The first 10 weren't too bad but the body part I don't speak of was screaming "stop it or I'll tell Dumb-dumb on you" and I was screaming "Shut up!". It finally did, but that was about when the unbearable mental torment started. From mile 10 to 19 I kept thinking, "there's no way I'm going to make it" but I kept thinking of how Helen did it and how happy I would be went I could claim I did it, too. I kept telling myself, "this is it, this is the final push, the LR you've been working upto and it will be over soon". Have I ever mentioned the Y is really warm and humid from the two indoor pools? I drank 96 oz of fluids and still ended 4 lbs lighter than when I began. I had gel problems. My hands were so sweaty I couldn't open the Cliff Shot I received in the Cliff Pace packet and barely got one of my Accelerade gels open. PLUS, I broke my sacred rule of never getting my hands near my face at the gym (major germ phobic). By the time I got my gel open I might as well have just licked the TM http://www.livinglively.com/clipart/acyuck.gif
I was pressed for time so I didn't take the time to stretch properly or do a cold soak. I went straight into marathon Christmas shopping, moaning and groaning all the way!
Stats: 22 miles in 3:49, first 14 at 0.5% incline then FLAT!
ETA: Oops, major type-o I finished in 3:49 NOT 3:29!!!!!!!
I'm done!http://www.livinglively.com/clipart/0trampoline.gif

:wave2: Remember me? I just have a moment as life is busy, busy busy here! I read the past few pages and the excitement ont eh thread is fantastic! It sounds like you all are doing so well! Way to go on all that training!!
Carrie, I got my shrit today!!! I  it!! Thanks to you and Sunny both for all of your hard work! I can't wait to wear my shirt in April with Lily at the Columbus Distance Classic!
It has been decided that I NEED to get some exercise back in my life. I found out Tuesday that I am a borderline diabatic and the best way to treat this is with diet and exercise....so I figure I work best at exercising if I have a goal....I think training for a half will take care of that.
For all of the kind word and prayers that were said for my father, thank you so much! You all have no idea how much you mean to me. Your kindness is overwheming!! My dad is home and seems to be tired a lot....he had a PET Scan done Monday, so we are anxiously awaiting the results. I will definately check back with news on that.
Sorry my post is short and all about me......but I wanted to let you know that I know where to come and get my inspiration from....right here with the best bunch of people I know~~~You all inspire me so much! Many thanks!!
And one last note.....
Happy Belated Birthday Helen!! Hope is was a good one!

Hey guys! I had a busy week and still haven't caught up on all the posts that I missed. I did 18 miles Tuesday and my last 18 mile LR is this Tuesday. I can't wait for the last LR to be over. 4 miles in I thought this one was going to be a real stonker as I was starting to feel my toes rubbing the inside of my shoes. Luckily it was a trail that is 2 miles each way, so 4 brought me right back to my car, where I applied a bunch of A&D Ointment to my toes, and they didn't bother me again. An easy 5 miles yesterday, and I am trying to figure out how to get my 8 miles in today.
Helen- Happy Birthday! Hope it was a great celebration!
Sunny - I can't even imagine 22 miles on the TM. You poor, poor thing! 5 miles on it last week was enough to make me brave the 38 degree weather for my LR last week. I'd rather freeze than spend that much time on the TM. Of course, I don't have snow or ice to deal with. Great job!! You really are a BIG :dog2: !!
So, is anybody else dealing with blisters on their blisters? I have over 50 miles on my marathon shoes now, and am tempted to switch back to my trainers that have close to 250 miles. They weren't causing blisters. Then again, maybe the cause is the increased mileage in each run. Can I just state for the record how ugly my feet are right now? One black toenail and three blisters! I'm glad it is not sandal season!! :earseek:

Stopping in for a quick visit. I have a very busy weekend planned so I'll check in when I can.
Did 6.3 mile walk this morning (had to cut it a little short since I got a later start than i planned) Did the 6.3 in 92.48 minutes (just about 15 min./mile pace). Slower than I wanted. Funny thing is I felt good the whole time during the walk. Nothing bothered me (except my iPod battery dying 1 1/2 miles in). Maybe that's why I was slower ;) . I wasn't even stiff afterward. :Pinkbounc
Here's a little tip in case anyone has a similar problem. Even though I used Bodyglide, in my longer walks I would still have a chafing problem. That irritation was a pain in the you-know-where
I was in the store the other day and saw these panties called Moving Comfort. They claim no seams, no chafing. What did i have to lose. Of course they looked like they wouldn't even fir my teenage niece, let alone me :teeth: But they did. They were very comfy. I still used the Bodyglide, but I had no "other" problems due to the undies. So, if anyone had the same problem, you may want to check these out. Don't be scared by how small they look. They stretch and fit very well.
Good luck to everyone this weekend.

12 miles in 2:49:23 for a 14:07 pace overall. I'm thinking with adrenaline and excitement, I might actually make it in 3:00 :faint:
A question, how should I feel after this distance? I've certainly never done any distance like this and I'm trying to figure out if this is appropriate or I should never, ever plan to do a full. I'm still physically and mentally tired...kinda feelin' like my legs got run over by a truck. For y'all doing the full, is this supposed to be how it is after this distance? I think of you doing 20 miles this weekend and am wondering if I wouldn't be able to work up to that, since I feel pretty poopy after 12.
The run itself was a bit surreal. It was 55 degrees this am and had rained off and on all night. I went out in two long sleeved shirts and long pants. By mile 6, the rain found me. By mile 8, I could see my breath. By mile 9, the serious rain found me...got to a point where there wasn't even a dry spot on my undershirt to wipe the rain out of my eyes :umbrella: After about mile 10, I could feel I was really fatigued, but my mind was clear and my pace stayed good...almost like my legs were on autopilot. I guess that's the 'flow' they speak of in the Non-Runner's book?
Seems like I've been lucky so far...no blisters or black toenails and I solved my chafing problems early on. I did have a slight rashy looking thing on top of my thighs when I got back today, but it was raining, so I'm blaming that.
Looking forward to seeing everyone else's LR reports! I can't believe...after nearly a year of conditioning, then training, it's almost here :goodvibes

Melissa- Thank you for caring! Yes we have power...but not everyone does. The ice storm was not as bad as expected but did push the double LR to Friday and Saturday.
WE DID IT! :cool1:  :cool1:
The double LRs are over!
Friday - we did 12 at a SLOW pace (mainly b/c of ice). Around 2:30 :earseek: !
Saturday was 24. I had to pick up DD at 1200 so b/c of time, Bree and I did a little over 23 at 11 MPM. That is SO cool for me. I was wet at the end from sweat! DH did 25+ miles around Freedom Park. It is .8 miles around the park so he ran this over and over and over. Six miles of this was getting to and from the park. He is crazy!
Congrats Sunny on your TM LR! Glad you could get 22 in. :cheer2:
Good luck to everyone else. I wish I had time to read other posts, but have to get ready for my production tonight...I am Mary and ride a donkey :rotfl2: - This is xtraining!

I am officially trained for the half marathon!!!!!!!!!!!!! My 10 miler was awesome, I honestly think it was best run I've ever had. Who would have thought??? :goodvibes I did have a minor problem at 4.88 miles when I ran past a "road closed" sign and a piece of metal was sticking up, I caught my shoe on it and down I went. I busted both of my knees (again!!) and ripped my favorite Nike tights. I was so bummed. I got up and started to walk it off, trying to think when I could get my 10 miles in. I came to the conclusion that today was the only day, since I didn't want to cut into the taper and if I fell in the half marathon, of course I would get up and keep going. And that's what I did. My knee was a little stiff for a few minutes, and going up hills was a little painful, but I was okay. I finished my 10 miles in 2:02:28--I was VERY excited about that!! I think I'm going to be ready for Disney. :teeth: Stephen is doing his 20 miles tomorrow, he said he'll post tomorrow afternoon. Even though he doesn't post all the time, he does read the thread.
Sunny--You are amazing!! I can't believe you ran 22 miles on treadmill. Awesome job!! :cheer2: Did you get all of your shopping finished? I finished up on Wednesday, but I cheated, doing most of my shopping on-line. :smooth:
Liz--Hi!! Nice to see you again!!
Carrie--I know you won't get this until you get home from Atlanta, but I just wanted to tell you that Stephen and I got our shirts, they look great (and fit great too). Thanks again for undertaking that huge project.
Mel-- :cheer2: for doing 12 miles in the pouring rain. I did 8 miles in the pouring rain and that really drains you mentally. Good job for keeping at it.

Sounds like everyone is doing great. I finished my 10 miles on the treadmill in 2:51:00. That wouldn't keep me ahead of the sweepers, but I know that my outside walks are always faster than on the TM. I am just glad it is done because I have lots of stuff to do around the house.
Take care!!

I am have been a little hesitant to write, not really my thing. However, I have learned sooooo much from this group and you all have really helped me feel part of a team...
I did my LR today, 20 miles, in horrible icy, MA conditions. When I was feeling sorry for myself that I would have to wait for the roads to melt this morning, I remembered that Sunny did 22 on a TM and I had nothing to complain about. My run was much harder than my 18. As I finished, running up to "tag" the mailbox, I checked the mail and there was my shirt. Thanks Carrie. It was the best timing in the world. Yes, I cried.
Thanks everyone for keeping me going and teaching me about ice baths!

Quick visit to report on Today's LR.
Let's just say--IT finally happened....I FELL. :(
But as Woody would say--I fell with style ;).
You see--evidently the quad brakes do not work yet. I will call PT on Monday and ask what is up with that. I'm usually pretty good at catching myself from some serious spills--and pretty much avoiding them while looking like a dummy in the process.
Well--today--I now have learned how to slide into home plate. You see--after the first few steps....I knew the fall was going to happen.....so as I pass the stumble part and ease into the fall.....My hands reached forward in a dive...the legs lengthened out--and I fell flat on the concrete sliding a smidge into the grass (the arm brakes still work apparently). I do not know how--but by the grace of God and a sprinkling of pixie dust from the marathon faries---I managed to scrape (minorly) my thigh and it took the ground..somehow--I managed to hit the ground flat and my knees didn't even kiss the surface. My poor walking buddy was freaking out (bridge today 2X--so walking it was)---I told her I did that on purpose...she said "oh no you did not do that on purpose"--I replied...well actually--HOW I fell was on purpose. A bit shaken, but not stirred mind you! I did elect to stop.
After driving past the spot later--clear as day--that particular section of sidewalk was raised---and in the perfectly manicured grass mohawk--you could see where I landed as the grass was lifted.
Oh--and by the way--even before the spill..the run/walk was a stonker--but it actually turned out to be kind of fun. Drenched to the gills--I am now ready for rain conditions--and I have practiced graceful falling ;).
I fell at 7.4 miles--and then called the coach to hitch a ride back to the start. My garmin conked out (replaced the batteries last weekend even)--and I forgot to ask my partners in crime the time.....post fall after the "I'm all right" bit--My next thought was--so how far did I go? Priorities I tell you! Priorities! :)

Just a quick post to report I got my shirt in the mail today. THANK YOU CARRIE!!! I'll be wearing it for the 20 miles tomorrow.
I did a 10 mile LR on the treadmill this am and will be doing my 20 miles on it tomorrow. With the terrible NY weather, there's no way I'm chancing getting injured on my last long training run.
I made a great shrimp & pasta dinner tonight to carbo load a bit and to celebrate the hard work being nearly done. 20 days from today I'll be at WDW!!!
Best of luck to you all this weekend on your LR's.

I'm back from my 20 miler. It was good, although the top of my toe is now missing (just the top layer of skin, due to the fact that the bandaid I put on to cover an earlier blister decided to remove the skin for me, so now I have a blister and missing skin on that toe. Great).
Otherwise, all was good. I finished in 4:32:40, or an avg. 13.6/min./mile pace. Not great, but not too bad. Ahead of the sweepers and since I'm goofy'ing, that's all I care about. I might have been able to go a little faster, except the temp. kept dropping all afternoon and I never do as well when it's cold. Our weathermen seriously lied. They said it would be sunny most of the day and 50. Well, the sun never came out and it never got above 40. Phooey. But still, it's done and I cried a little when I came around the last corner, just from knowing that it's all done.
BRING ON THE TAPER!!!!
Congrats to all who've successfully completed their runs and PD to all of you who still have to do them!!! We're almost home!!!! Yay!!!!
