Do you need to get any type of license for fishing in the canals around FW? DH also wants to know if there is anywhere else around WDW for fishing?? He is aware of the fishing excursions but was more interested in going with just him and DD and fishing the shore. Thanks!

Only 5 more days until we check in to FW!!!!! :cool1:

Fishing is catch and release and you do not need a license.

There are some areas on Bay Lake where you can fish from the shore and the canal behind the 300 to 1900 loops can also be fished. Many of the small canals are covered with algae.

It is catchnrelease and what we caught were small sunfish, but we had a great time and spent several hours there.

We took pictures holding up our small fish like we were on Bassmasters!

We did go over to PO's Fishing Hole, but it was pretty lame and cost $7 for an half hour whether you have your own equipment and bait or not. The CM there was very nice though and if you want a really Disneyfied fishing experience, PO is it.

Normally I like Disneyfied, but my fondest memories of my father were times spent on the fish bank not on a umbrella covered pier with running water and hand sanitizer and laughter coming from the resort pool! LOL!! So we chose Fort Wilderness to fish.

Oh!! And Disney Fish know the difference between fake and live bait so dont even bother with the fake stuff! They like Hot Dogs (Beef not Pork) and lots of them!!

We joked that these fish had been caught and released so many times they were getting a free meal and a Thrill Ride! LOL! Disney's way of getting the guests to feed their fish! LOL!
