It is hard to believe that it is getting so close. I am doing OK on the MFM 1/2 training schedule. I didn't get my long walk in yesterday due to Christmas Parade, Scout Popcorn, etc. but I will be getting it in today.
We leave for WDW Friday morning and I am not going to lose my focus on getting prepared for the 1/2.
I had the funniest thought yesterday, this will be my 2nd 1/2 WDW marathon, maybe I should think about participating in the full next year. Not sure where that thought came from but will have to really think about it.

Tammy, definitely go for the full in 2007!! It is the only natural progression. Go for it!

MelR-- I'm not running Goofy, but the lessons I am learning for myself is: a little extra speed means a lot less endurance. I don't know if that's true for everyone, somepeople might be more speed oriented and struggle more with distance. But, I would ask yourself what does it mean to you to run the half at 11:00 instead of 10:30. If there isn't a big difference in what it means to you I would say by all means run at 11:00 and feel good for the full. This past Thurs I ran 10 with my speedy friend from the gym. I knew I was running too fast for myself but I thought "hey, its only 10, I can push it out". I barely made the last mile. Once we hit the 9th marker I told her to go on ahead and at first she said, "I'm good, don't worry about it" at which I thought, "DARN, I want you to go ahead so I can lay down!!!!" :rotfl: Then Saturday was a totally pleasant 20 miler at much below my ability. I know one thing, I don't want to hit that feeling I had at mile 9 early on in the Full. I know I could blow the race if I get too lofty with my pace, and I know I can run it if I'm careful. So why do we keep pushing for speed anyway?
As for the iPod, I had 2 shuffles which both DIED prematurely (sent back under warranty, etc). I found out alot of people have trouble with shuffles using Windows XP so I'm a bit leary to go the iPod route again. Although I think its only the shuffles that have trouble. I'll think about it!
I had my second race nightmare last night. I was getting into my coral and realized I never got my packet, I never got my chip, I never got my WISH t-shirt, I never made arrangements to meet up with anyone, not even my family!!!!! It was very scarey.
Speaking of music, I stumble across a song called "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner" by Iron Maiden. I'm not an IM fan, but with a title like that I just had to download it! I listend to it every LR now but it doesn't move me like Scooter ;) Here's the lyrics:
The tough of the track
With the wind
And the rain that’s beating down on your back
Your heart’s beating loud
And goes on getting louder
And goes on even more ’til the
Sound is ringing in your head
With every step you tread
And every breath you take
Determination
Makes you run never stop
Got to win got to run ’til you drop
Keep the pace hold the race
Your mind is getting clearer
You’re over half way there
But the miles they never seem to end
As if you’re in a dream
Not getting anywhere
It seems so futile
Run on and on
Run on and on
The lonliness of the long distance runner
I’ve got to keep running the course
I’ve got to keep running and win at all costs
I’ve got to keep going be strong
Must be so determined and push myself on
Run over stiles across fields
Turn to look at who’s on your heels
Way ahead of the field
The line is getting nearer but do
You want the glory that goes
You reach the final stretch
Ideals are just a trace
You feel like throwing the race

I can always count on Sunny to send me listening to more great music! can't wait to check that out. Hopefully they have it on itunes.
Well, not much going on here in the way of training. I had shifted my schedule back a week because I was supposed to have an ugly spot removed this past Thursday. So, I did 7 miles last weekend and would only have to do 3 this weekend (can you imagine? ME? saying "only 3 miles?" unbelievable!) Anyway, the surgery will have to be rescheduled to January because of a death in my "family" -- my best friend's mom, who was a second mom to me from the moment I was born, was buried Friday. Long, sad story, but the bizarrest thing is it was a series of heart attacks after "routine" knee replacement surgery. Horrible.
So, Howard and I went to the Y yesterday morning (it was mid 30s here when we woke up). I did 3 miles on the TM in 42:36 (14:12 pace). That included a couple of jogging spurts. I was glad to be able to go back to 4 mph after each jog. It used to be that the recovery completely wiped out my pace. I am feeling optimistic this weekend. After a sad start on Friday and even having to be at work all day today, it's a bright sunny day. DS12's play was awesome and his performance drew "rave reviews!" His "soliloquy" stole my breath away -- thank God I've been working on cardio, because I don't think I breathed much of the 5 minutes he was alone in the spotlight!
Happy trainng everyone! No packets here yet, but 7 weeks still feels amazingly close! Looking forward to "training" at Disney's DVC Hilton Head Resort later this week. Then it will really seem real! :goodvibes

Melissa - You asked if I was sore after my doubles? Not yet. I have gotten up to 10 on thursday and 18 on Friday. It was hard, but I did it and with 10 min miles on the 18. DH and I plan to take the 1/2 nice and slow. I don't care about my time on a 1/2...I already have a good time for this distance. I just want to finish the ful the next day. I think going to an 11min mile is wise. We may even go slower.
At mile 13 of the 18...I told DH that I felt like I was at the end of a Marathon. He reminded me that my body thought I was at mile23 b/c of the LR the day b/4.

Morning all: did my 18 miler this weekend, pace was 3.40 which I was happy with - it would have been 3.30 if I hadn't felt violently sick at about 13 miles so had to walk for a bit. Worked out, I can't only run on powerade, I have to have water too . I'd taken three mini bottles of Powerade out with me, instead of my 2:1 ratio and I think I was just sugar loaded. Once I got to a water fountain and filled a bottle with that instead I felt much better- and it did convince me that I really am not missing out by not using GU, I just don't function well with that much sugar in my system. I was a bit stiff afterwards, but it had cleared after my nap which I'm thinking is good - I too had that 'I'm gonna do this aren't I' moment when I finished. My feet are wrecked though - I have two black toenails after my last half, a massive blister on my big toe and mini blisters on pretty much every other toe, I'm now running with my toes taped up, I feel like a boxer!
Anyway, that's all for me today. Oh and v happy to hear Colleen's 'discouraged' headphones' wordage - been having horrible visions of getting to the finish all ready to pick up my medal and being told 'no sorry, we have identified you as an illegal headphone user between miles 18-21 - no medal for you young lady!!!' Sunny and Christa - I did my LR for the week today b/c phil is on-call over the holiday and obviously the boy won't be in preschool. It was a shorter one (15 miles) I decided to take it slow b/c I did the 18 on thurs and was still sore (not bad. just muscle soreness, but no probs walking or functioning) yesterday morning. I think the climbing helped work the soreness out. Anyway, I averaged around 10:54 and my last 2 miles were by far my fastest. One of those has a huge uphill.
I guess I started getting greedy for pace and forgot my underachiever's approach. I'm planning on really cutting back the pace on the half so that I don't feel to tired. My real goal is just to finish both. I was thinking of you today, Sunny, while I was running my relaxed pace. I know you did the same this week and enjoyed it. I also know that when I try to push my limits for any distance, I am more prone to pain and minor injuries! Today was a slow enough pace that I did fine. I got tired, but finished stronger than I usually do and most importantly, I DON"T FEEL THE NEED FOR AN ICE BATH!!
Christa - you must have a bod of steel!!! I can't believe that you are not sore!!!!! You are my hero!!!!!! (even if you are the evil queen!)

Sunny - sorry to post again, but I forgot. I have never had any ipod probs, but we use a mac (figures doesn't it? I'm left handed too!)
Anyway, I was thinking, if you ordered one from the apple refub site, you might just get your old one back!!! :rotfl2:

Rest for me today!
I really enjoyed everyone's photos of their training course. I was thinking yesterday that I wished mine was scenic enough to post, but I just run through various subdivisions. I've been going back through the old posts to create a training journal and just got up to March, the weekend I did my very first race ever (a 1 mile fun run). We were out there today so I thought I could post photos of that place.

Had a great LR today! Did 7 miles here are my splits:
.5 (warm up) 18.20 pace
6.25 14.33 pace
.34(cool down) 18.23
I was very pleased with that :Pinkbounc
Now comes my confession time. The reason I was so please is because my foot is stil hurting. When I started out, I had a headache & my ankle hurt so I was worried I wouldnt finish at all. It feels like the tendon on the top of the foot going up to the ankle. Weight doesnt bother it, just certain movements. It had started getting better, but then got worse again after Friday's SR. I guess I'm going to have to break down & go to the DR. I dont know why I dont want to go so bad, I dont think she will tell me not to do this & common sense tells me that its better to get it taken care of now before we get too close to the race. I know she'll do what she can to keep me racing. I am also having circulation problems in the feet & hands when I exercise.
Still no packet for me.
Cam- I am so jealous you get to go to Hilton Head
Helen-good job on the LR. Poor feet!
Sunny-love the song. I still need to download some Scooter.
Mel-great pics, dont worry- I only have boring neighborhoods too! At least I wont ever have to contend with snow.
Keep up the good work everyone, we're coming into the home stretch now! :cheer2:

Confession--I was looking forward to checking the mail box today. Alas--I can still do that, but it is Sunday. :guilty:
Oh--and I am 15 pounds heavier than last year during training--6 or so of that since training got shut off for my knee surgery.
Today I am just saying NO! If it is a sweet--I don't even want to look at it. I call it the LISA Beach Diet. I still eat fruits--in fact, that's how I go through the withdrawall....just nibbling on fruits to satisfy me. I'm on phase 383. The first 382--just too boring, so I skipped them. Actually--this is inspired by my coach who got it from some book that I have no idea who wrote it, nor the title--so good luck with that googling. Anywho--anytime you are hungry during the day--eat a fruit or a veg as a snack--as much as you need...and eventually you will lose weight.
Now--what's the worse confession--stalking the mailbox on SUNDAY or that little weight thing? :teeth:

Hi everybody!
I started the week off great! I walked 11 miles today in 2:28 (my personal best). Before, my longest run/walk was 10 miles. I didn't plan on 11, but that's what it turned out to be. I'm a little sore tonight. Waiting to see how I feel tomorrow morning.
It's gonna be a toughie to walk that marathon. But hey - if it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

I thought I'd pass this along:
LizDotcom99's Dad is not well. I'm sure she could use some good thoughts. She was called to Florida to be with her dad. He's been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and is hospitalized. It doesn't look good. If you could spare some prayers for her Dad and all connected I know she would appreciate it.
He was recently visiting her while escaping the wrath of Katrina. She had a great visit with him. After he arrived home this was discovered.

Be safe everyone who is traveling this week. :moped:
Well, the great shoe hunt continues. We looked everywhere in the house on Friday. I think I might have left my Asics at the gym. When I called on Saturday, the woman who answered the phone said there were no purple Asics in the lost and found. I am going to go see for myself tomorrow. I sure hope I find them. You can bet if I don't I will be checking out the feet of every woman at that gym for the next month! ;)
I worked all weekend and did not get to exercise. Hopefully I will be able to get back on track this week.

I went by the gym this morning, and I had them check my records. I have not been to the gym since 10/31. Eek! That long? The bright side of the story is that I wore my Asics after that date so I did not lose them at the gym. I will have to tear up the house one more time looking for them. If we still can't find them then DH probably sold them by mistake at the garage sale for $1. :earseek: Can you tell I am a little obsessed about these shoes? I don't want to have to spend $90 to get another pair. (By the way, I only wore the last pair twice so that was like $45 per workout). Okay, I promise to let this go soon . . . well, maybe eventually.
Have a great Monday everyone!

Good morning everyone!! :sunny: I'm SO glad that it's a short week, although it seems that short weeks feel twice as long. I did 7 miles on Saturday--that was the furtherest I've ever gone, the run was good, but I was definitely tired!! I finished in 1:27:32, I don't know what my split times were, my Garmin pace lap function was acting up again, I'm wondering if I pushed a button when I was looking over my past runs last weekend. The only bad part of my run was that it was incredibly windy, I had on a knit toboggan (Helly Hansen--my Disney fix ;) ) and the wind was actually pulling the hat off my head!!
Mel--Those are awsome pictures!!! I love Siesta Key, other than WDW, that's my favorite part of Florida. I'm not even going to comment on the Steelers game, but I will say that Tommy Maddox needs to be cut. Today.
Sunny--How awesome that you had a break through!! Were you supposed to run 20 miles, or did you just do it for fun?? Oh, don't worry about me, I won't carry the pocket knife when I run, I just thought it was incredibly sweet for a co-worker who I know, but I'm not close to is that worried about me.
MelR--I've live in Ohio all my life, I'm pretty used to the cold weather, and I still will never (I know, never say never) take an ice bath!! :cold:
Terri--A personal best? :cheer2: :cheer2:
I better get off here, someone is going to notice that I've had the same piece of paper in front of me for half an hour. :) Happy training!!

Happy Thanksgiving week to all!! I had a great LR of 10 miles on Saturday and then I kind of bagged my scheduled 20 mile run yesterday due to feeling badly. I still ran 13, so I'm not counting it as a total failure. :sunny:
Mel-Loved the pics. They have me missing the warm FL weather.

Good morning everyone!
First :grouphug: :wizard: for Liz's Dad.
Terri-- wonderful job on the PR!!! That's fantastic!
I finally managed to get a run in yesterday. Just like riding a bike. I did 48 min (5/1). I have no idea about my pace or distance, since I left my Garmin and running shoes in my roomates' car (we carpool to work a lot)- and he wasn't here. :guilty: So, being a resourceful young lad, I put on my brand new running shoes and put my battery-powered alarm clock in my pocket and off I went. I have a 40 min (4/1) today... which should be a nice break.
Question: How long does it take to "break in" shoes enough to comfortable run the marathon in them??
Still no packet here. Hopefully today, since some of you have already gotten them. Otherwise, :badpc: to my mailbox.
Oh, and on the weather front here in Michigan, Snow showers in the forecast for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. :guilty: :guilty: :earseek: :faint: And because of work, I don't even get to go home to DC for Thanksgiving to avoid it. (Stupid winning sports teams. :) )
Just 47 days for you half-ers and 48 days for us full-ers. Wow, that's hard to believe.
Happy training!

Congrats to all on your LR/LWs!
Great to hear about the weekend races!

Mel - Cool pics!
So many I want to catch up with, but it's gonna' be a heck of a week and I need to get some stuff done. I hope reading through my marathon mail is one of them, but no luck yet.
I did my 16 on Sat. Pace getting better, but tanked near the end. May be at least partially due to very bad Friday night with little sleep. Nice day, though, and nice path to run on. If anyone's ever in Lansing, MI, the RIver Trail there is awesome!

Liz-- :grouphug: Sorry about your dad!
ETA: OMG---I respectfully apologize to Liz--I feel horrible--that was a misplaced smiley and in my haste to get out the door I didn't notice it. I am so regretfully sorry. I was in no way laughing at your situation.
Update on the plumber--well a sort of update.
Asked the plumber today and he says the guy that fell on Friday is doing much better and is not paralyzed. :goodvibes
And they aren't charging me for the repair (even though it is out of the 30 day warranty) but they did graciously offer to install a new main line at a later date for $463. :earseek: Considering it is a bunch of puzzle pieces anyway, it makes sense. But the good news for today is no check to right.
Training update: I am on the elliptical and starting to hit sub-12:00. Tried the running on the treadmill thing today--and I was a whole mile per hour faster than last week's attempt.
Busy packed day--b/c what kind of day would otherwise be expected as you are preparing to leave town.
Did the gym, PT, and doctor's appt this morning (E Pluribus Unum--I bless you as free to do all activities --insert sign of the cross here--I kid you not, Doc did this :rotfl2: )....came home--plumber is here...leaving in 15 minutes for the chiropractor on our way to go to a show at the King Center--something with Banana in the title....so.... ...then it is Tumbling at 1 and 3, Play Rehearsal at 5, and hitting the road at 6.
I really think my schedule today in and of itself is a cardio workout.
Happy Turkey Day to all!
Ooh--I just considered that stopping at the post office to hold the mail would be a wise move. Guess that will have to be in between classes. EEK!

Oh Liz, sorry to hear about your dad. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
An amazing thing happened to me this weekend. OK, it may not be much to you guys already doing marathons and such, but for a former non-athlete, it was pretty cool. :teeth:
Every morning I get up at 4:30 and every other day I do an hours worth of PT for my knee, and the other days I get on the treadmill.
I woke up Sunday morning and thought it was a TM day, but it was a PT day.
I could not believe this but - I was disappointed! :earseek:
I was so shocked - and pleased - at my reaction.
Guess I do really like this training thing after all! :goodvibes
I increased my speed over the past few days from 2.5 to 3. Not much, I know, but since a couple of months ago I could barely walk, hey I'll take it! I can only go up from here!

Lisa - Glad you hear that your repairman is ok!
Heather - I hope you find your shoes. I would be obsessed too!!! I don't know what size or style that your wear, but sierratradingpost.com has asics cumulus gel for around $45. They didn't have my size :guilty:
No packet for me today. I have been pretty emotionally patient, until now!!!! I think the trips back and forth to the mailbox should count as cross training! No run for me today. It was in the upper 40's, so I bundled the boy up and took him kayaking. I let him throw in his Jack Sparrow hat, but he didn't wear it because it would be humiliating for a pirates' hat to be blown off by the wind. We did sing some pirate songs. The lake is really low and since it is a man-made lake, there are structures that are generally underwater, but now exposed. There was an old political retreat, complete with hotels and an ampitheater at one time. A bunch of the ampitheater is now exposed, so we paddled out to explore it! He had a great time walking around on the remains of the structure, seeing fish jump, calling the birds, and leaning to make the kayak go all over, but when we got home he informed me "i don't like kayaking" He wants a motor! pirate:

The aliens got another one!!! TammyNC says "Well I'm doing my second half and the two together add up to a marathon so maybe I'll just do the marathon in 2007." Paraphrased, but that was the point. Got for it, Tammy, you can do it and you'll get a different piece of hardware.
Good job everyone on their LRs this weekend and to the folks rehabbing for making progress.
Still no packet.
Much better run today, did 5.15 miles in 49:42 and that was an easy to moderate pace.
Confession time- I was having kind of niggling right hip pain that had been getting worse after each run. It's something I've dealt with off and on since 2002 with varying times of pain and pain free. Since even the 'short'(with the exception of the TM debacle last Weds, even 'short' runs are at least 4.5 miles) runs started to bug me, I made an appointment with a NMM(neuromuscular medicine) resident connected to my school. I decided to bite the bullet last Tues and got in last Weds morning. She did an evaluation, some soft tissue, some manipulation, checked out my gait and my feet.
My very FLAT feet, so she gave me some supports to put in my shoes as a prelude to work me into eventually getting the orthotics I need that she knew I would balk at. I told her that I would probably get blisters. First run, the TM, hot spot but no blister. Second run, 4.6 miles outside, blister on left arch. Third run, 16 miles, surprise the blister grew. I could definitely feel it at times today too. What I'm not feeling so much though is the hip. Definitely getting better even though the mileage certainly did not go down.
Most of the rest of my legs hurt though, but not injury hurt, more muscle soreness from being used differently, hurt. So the inserts definitely did their job and changed my gait. That might have contributed to my relative stonker of a LR on Sat(got no sympathy from Mom for the pace) although the rolling hills for almost half of it may not have helped either. I really hope that the weather cooperates so that I can do the 10 mile Turkey Trot race on Thurs to get an better idea of where I'm at race pace wise. What's wrong with me? I'm hoping to run 10 miles Thanksgiving Day?!?!

Hi, all. Didn't see this posted anywhere (if it is, my goof) but I came across this on another board. It's an article about the Disney races, but most importantly is a pic of Goofy holding all 3 medals!!! If anyone wants to see the Goofy medal, go here:
Medal Pic (http://www.flrunning.com/news/10-07-05Disney.html)
Looks pretty cool. Kind of disappointed it's just his hat -- wish it could be his sillhouette like the others, but whatever, I can't wait to hold them all!!!
Did 8 and 16 this weekend. Took it easy on the 8 with a bout a 13 min/mile and did the 16 at just over 11 min/miles. Woo hoo. Resting today and it feels darn good.
Best to all!!!

Liz -- I am so sorry about your Dad. I will keep you both in my prayers.
Howard said our packets came today, but being the sweetie he is, he didn't open his and we will open them together tonight.
Insane with preparing for a trial next week, and more importantly, getting ready for Hilton Head.
Enjoy your Turkey Day, everyone, and stay healthy!

I got my package! I feel like I got the Golden Ticket.
I really want the Mickey medal though. Maybe i could do the Full marathon next year?
Liz - My thoughts & prayers are with you & your family.
Good 7 mile LR on Sat., went real easy w/ around 10:30 miles, then -splits, the last mile being 9:09. I'm kinda wishing, too, that I signed up for the full marathon. But I guess I should start with a half, huh? Earn the right to do the full next year.
Stonker 50 min. run today, in fact, I walked most of it. It's funky weather here in CT, gray & 45 & I was totally spaced out today. Oh well.
Uh, did I mention I got my packet??  Don't wanna rub it in though, for those who haven't. One thing I don't understand, it says that spectators can only take the monorail to Magic Kingdom...so if we're staying @ BCV, does that mean you take the bus to EPCOT, then the monorail over to MK? I'm a little slow today...
It sounds like all of you had a great weekend w/ your LRs
Lisa - keep goin'
Send more pictures of everyone's training grounds. I love seeing the beaches & beatiful paths you guys run on.

Seems like everything is progressing for our posters in a decent way. No packet for me yet either. Sorry if I don't mention everyone by name. I am way behind in this.
Holiday travelers, be safe and have a wonderful holiday!
MelR, tell “The Boy” that he is the motor! Tee hee! I love your family stories.
Disneefun, thanks for the link to the pic. I’m with you; it’s a “hat?” What’s with THAT? :earseek:
Seems your pace will have you among the owners of THAT HAT!
Lynne, glad the orthotics will seem to be doing the trick for you. I think it will be a short adjustment time and you will be feeling much better.
Mel, love the pics you have posted. Thanks for that.
Terri, that is a GREAT pace you have going there.
Heather, hope you find those purple shoes!
Solotraveler, speaking of shoes, I am told if they don’t feel good right out of the box that they won’t feel good. I’m still trying to decide that with one pair of Saucony shoes I have. They are new and I’m not sure if they are my happy shoes or not yet.
Lisa, glad you are cleared for take off. You know the drill, don’t overdo.
Honibee, your progress is fine. You will have plenty of time to build up that speed for sure. Don’t fret too much at this point. Just keep at it!
...I really want the Mickey medal though. Maybe i could do the Full marathon next year?Uh oh, looks like more aliens are getting our half team! Keep up with building your base and your training should be allowing you to partake in the full! Get ready as the sign up will most likely be open as we are all participating on our half/full events. Sign up early! Train all year!

I am finally starting to feel better with the back to the point that it has traveled to a different part, but I am guessing that is only b/c of my compensating. This is not nearly as debilitating. Whew! I am hoping it is over!
I have taken some pics of my “Happy Place” where I trek. I will try to post or make some available. I have fun taking the pics as I go along. The people on the trail laugh at me with my as one guy so kindly described toolbelt. I’ve got my camera, phone, and water bottles on the outside with my pouch as well. Oh well, I’m happy and don’t mind being the laugh of the trail.
My stonker weekend. {{insert huge frowny face here}}. Sunday I did my 16-miler oh so barely. I was hanging around a 16 min pace until the last quarter. Whoooeeee! I really hit a wall and almost totally fell apart. I literally crawled (ending with a 25 min pace!) and could not believe it as my body was shutting down. To say I am disappointed is a huge understatement. It was a most beautiful day on Sunday.--Cool, sunny, perfect. My mental self just fell apart now too. My average pace for the 16 miler ended up being 17:30. Over the summer I was humming with often less than 12 min for some of my times. I know I’ve been off the training for one week with nasty intestinal flu followed by a week of back muscle problem, but what the heck? Oh well thanks for letting me whine. I have some serious thinking to do as the next long event approaches. The good news is that right now after my day off I am not really sore as I was yesterday and earlier this a.m.
I was in Cleveland Clinic today for an esophageal manometry. The procedure was not as bad as I expected. I am grateful for that. Hoping the result is in my favor too.
Keep on keepin’ on team mates!

Lily - Sorry about your disappointment with your 16 miler. 16 miles is a long way. I'm sure your pace was off because your body was tired from the tummy flu!!!!!! I'll bet you'll see your pace improve after you are able to get back into the swing of things. I have felt a little worried about being able to finish the full b/c I've been sore and tired after the LR's. I talked to my marathon queen friend about it and she said she gets sore after our LR's too and she has done several marathons at a much faster pace than we are training!! WE CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hey guys I'm back agian. Physical theripy it going great. I got to run two mile today but then I got shin splints and had to get of the tredmill. Oh the woes. And my physical therpist thinks I might be able to run in January barring my physcains approval. That would just make my day.
Just got back from a two mile walk with DM. We got to do a walk tru of lights on the lake. It is kinda like disney's Osbourne Family Spectacal of Lights, but lower key and you normally drive through it. But it was cool none the less.
I got my CP letter today but it did not say what I thought it was going to say. Apparently they have changed policies recently and noone can do an advanced CP without doing normal CP first. They did not tell me till today that, that was the case. I found out that I got acepted for the normal CP as an operater even though I did not interview or anything for it. Lets just say this was a big shock :earseek: Now I do not know what I want to do. What do you guys think? :confused3

I did a 17 mile stonker LR today, and by the way................
I HATE RUNNING IN RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was really psyched out because of the cold raining day today. I ran 8 miles outside, which I hated!!!! I was absolutely soaked :umbrella: when I got home, I changed from head to toe and headed to the gym to do another 9 miles on the treadmill.
What happens if Marathon day is wet, rainy and cold?? I don't think I could do 26 miles. After 8 miles today, my shoes were soaked and my socks were soggy. It was the worst feeling in the world. I couldn't wait to get home and change. Another problem was my rain coat, yes it keeps the rain off, but it just doesn't breathe and I felt suffocated in it.
Does anyone have any tips?
Craig??? Are you out there?
By the way, is the Garmin rain proof?
Only 2 more long, long runs...........

Colleen - so funny (not really) that you should mention the worries of running in the rain! My 15er was in the drizzle yesterday and I had those same thoughts about the race! I wear a waterproof breatheable jacket and occasionally pants for the adventure races. I have run in it before as well. I have done 2 adv races where I had to wear the jacket and it was fine for both water resistance and breatheability. Here are some links to reasonably priced ones
TNF waterproof/breatheable (similar to mine) (http://www.backcountry.com/store/TNF0973/c12/s42/The-North-Face-Resolve-Jacket-Womens.html)
This might match your WISH shirt! (it is less expensive) (http://www.backcountry.com/store/SDS0089/c12/s42/Sierra-Designs-Hurricane-LT-Parka-Womens.html)
Super good price, more breathable and stretchy, not totally waterproof as seams arent taped and no hood (http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=39167637&memberId=12500226)
This is a good one too!!! (http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=39172827&memberId=12500226)
Guess who likes to shop on the internet!!!!!
Oh yeah, the garmin is water resistant. It should do fine in the rain. If it gets wet, I think you are supposed to follow the owners manual instructions for drying it out. I noticed that mine had a little water under the top left corner of the screen yesterday, but it worked fine and is ok today.
Sorry so long!!!!

Monte - 1/2 marathoners get the Donald Duck medal.
Disneefun - thanks for the pix of the medals. More motivation for me! I would have liked a Goofy silhouette. But if you look on the top portion of the hat, Goofy is there running. I'll take that.

got my packet, dh's too. :cool1:  Dancing for the rest of you.
Lily - I hit a wall at 10 and dh at 12 for our 16-miler. We didn't give a fig about pace after that. Just finishing. :wizard: on your results.
Erin - Woo hoo! Great news about running and about CP. Could you honestly give up that chance, even if it meant you were just an operator, you'd have a chance at the advanced and would be at WDW!!!!!
My Garmin's been rained on a few times and is fine. Waterproof to IEC 60529 IPX7 standards from teh Garmin website. I have no idea what that means, but water proof typically means submersible to a certain depth. Rain should be fine.
I got lucky yesterday, it started to come down really hard as we started our cool down walk. We were still soaked, but not for too long and at least we were doen running.

Well, I have accepted the fact that my Asics are gone. My DH must have sold them at the garage sale. I just hope they were purchased by someone who really needed them and could not have afforded them otherwise. :goodvibes
I have decided to go with the shoes that I wore for the 1/2 marathon last year--Mizuno Wave Precision. They are light and feel great. All I had after 13 miles last year was one teeny tiny blister on my left heel. Plus, because they are last year's model, I was able to find them 1/2 price at Kelly's Running Warehouse. Woo hoo! (I sold my old pair for $1 at the garage sale but that was on purpose ;) )
Oh, I forgot to tell you guys. I did it! I signed up for the MS150 bike ride between Houston and Austin. The course is 182 miles, and you do it in 2 days. I joined Team BP, and I am so excited! DH is going to buy me a new road bike for Christmas. I got lucky and the local bike shop has the bike that I have been dying to try. I am going tomorrow to give it a spin. :moped:
Still working like a :dog: with no time to exercise. :badpc: Hopefully I can get out there on Thanksgiving day and try 4 miles. I have got to get back to training.
No packets yet for DH or me. I have faith that they are coming soon. :wizard:

Good morning!! :sunny: Hope everyone is doing good and that training is going well. I "cross trained" last night by packing up summer clothes and unpacking sweaters and folding 5 loads of laundry for 3 1/2 HOURS!!!:earseek: This is the same laundry that Stephen swore he would put away a week and a half ago. I was planning on running on the treadmill about 10:00 last night, but it was midnight by the time I was finished. I did think about doing my 42 minutes then, but I knew I wouldn't get to bed until 1:00, so I just went to bed. Bad! Bad! Bad! :teeth: I'm running tonight, supposed to do 44 minutes, but I may go a little longer, I guess I'm doing the treadmill again. It's really cold here, which is okay because I have warm running clothes, but it's VERY windy. Stephen and I are doing the 96th Annual Thanksgiving Day 10K in Cincinnati, the 3rd oldest race in the US on Thursday. I'm excited to run it, but a little nervous, the longest race I've ever done is a 5K. At least at the start line there are signs with pace groups so I can get in with people going my pace, I hate getting too close to the front and being run over by the people who can run 6:00 minute miles!! :)
Heather--Sorry about your shoes! Like you said, hopefully someone who needed them got them. And now you get to shop some more. :teeth:
Liz-- :grouphug: for you Dad.
Cam-- :grouphug: as you continue to deal with your loss. Just think about your "Mom" when you walk, use her as your inspiration.
Lily--Sorry you had a stonker, but my goodness you walked 16 miles!!!! That is a long distance! And you were just getting over the flu? Most people would have stayed home in bed, or started and not finished, but you still did your 16 miles--got your steps in--that's huge!!
Colleen--I've been worried about stinky weather for Marathon Weekend too. We'll just have pray and rely on some good 'ol Disney magic!! :wizard:

Liz-- :grouphug: I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. Prayers and PD are sent your way.
Lilly-- I'm sorry to hear you had such difficulty on your 16 miler. I'm sure it was due to the flu recovery and back issues. The next one will ROCK :wizard:
Colleen-- I've had to run in down pours a few times. Yuck. I agree! As for the feet, I learned that if I grease them with vasoline (the whole foot), the shoe puddles aren't so bad.
Mel-- I love the pictures. Is that you demonstrating a cold water soak for the WEENIES? :rotfl:
Heather-- I hope you find your shoes. When my DS was 2 he threw away my car keys once. :confused3 I suppose shoes would be a little harder to sneak into the trash. The garage sale theory sounds more likely.
Lynne-- sounds like you found a much more helpful doctor. I hope you adjust to the inserts soon. I now know part of the problem with mine. I found his card in my purse and looked at his title: "Vice Chairman, Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, Lahey Clinic". He is too big for his britches and couldn't be bothered with a pee-on like me.
Who posted about race shoes? I put my first 7 miles on my race shoes yesterday. I put the sales receipt in my training log and I'm going to log the miles on them. I plan to put about 70-80 miles on them prior to the race.
I'm feeling a bit panicked about trying to plan the family vacation aspect of the trip when all I can focus on is preparing for the race! I still haven't bought our park tickets. I haven't made any dining ressies, I don't think I will.
MP3 UPDATE: I decided to go with a $50 napster flash mp3 player with the catch that I have to subscribe to napster for a year ($14.95/month). But with that subscription comes unlimited downloading. I haven't gotten my player yet, but I've downloaded everything scooter every recorded :teeth:
Yesterday was a wonderful 7 mile run outside at 9:38, plus spagetti arms.
On a whim I signed the whole family up at the Y. Our Y is newly renovated and I've been salivating everything I bring DS for his swimming lessons and pass by the weights and cardio equipment. The new renovations include boys and girls lockerrooms (separate from the adult locker rooms where nudies walk around) and familiy changing rooms. Yippee!
Now I can take up swimming and start preparing to become a tri :teeth:

I am still here. With the semester rapidly moving towards its conclusion, and yet somehow accelerating every week, I'm fighting hard just to stay above water. I'm looking forward to December 17 - my last final exam. After that I'll be more available and happier as well.
I have quickly zipped through the posts from time to time. The coolest thing is how so many have come so far in the last few months. The comments tend to be something like, "today I only did 6 miles." It is (1) an amazing change, and (2) absolutely accurate, as when your mind and body have done a few 10's and more, the thought of doing 6 is a breeze.
For what it's worth, today I'm in really strong half marathon shape right now. I've been averaging about 300 minutes per week of cardio vascular work, plus one hard session with the weights. Over the past 4 days I had a hard 1 hour bike session, 6.6 miles about 9:45 per mile, a hard weight session plus 1 hard hour on the bike, and then 10.1 miles at 9:36 per mile. The encouraging part is the morning after each workout I felt fine, so I feel my fitness has come up a lot.
My goal way back was to get into good half shape, and then see what happens on Sunday's full marathon day. I'm there right now, and hope I can build just a bit more in the next 4 weeks before I begin to taper off. The key for me is to not air out the half, leaving something for the next day.
Stay with it everyone. Just 46 days until the half.
Craig
Hi Craig!
Good to "see" you. I have to say, you're the one, way back in July/August who gave me the most valuable advice so far. SLOW DOWN. I was dying after just 6 miles, wondering how in the world I'd do 13 & you told me to slow down. I can now run 8 miles, no prob (well, you know what I mean) & am looking forward to my 10 miler in 2 weeks, the last of my LRs b-4 the half. My times for my 8 were something like 10:30-10:45 w/ -splits in the end. Don't get me wrong, I've had many a stonker as well, but I always seem to pull it out of.....fill in your own noun.....on my LRs & it's definitely b/c I took your advice to slow down.
Glad to hear your training is doing well, although school sounds crazy.

HI..............all, I have missed you all so much, i got twisted up and off plan with LIFE................. anyway my inspiration to get moving again was my marathon packet that I receieved yesterday........ I posted then tigerlily mentioned a pic she posted and I LOVE IT! cant wait to earn my second metal. so far, all I know is I am number 25079
not sure what corral etc. anyway, I am very excited about doing this again........ and I am not trying to sound like an old pro.......... but for all you first timers, I found it easier than I though it would be.
this time last year I was stressing and just going nuts asking Q's about traingin but most of all wanted to know if I should actually do 13.2 miles before that day just to know for sure if i could do it.
I never actually did, I did do 9 miles ( ibelieve ) in 2 hours..............
and honestly, I knew I could have gone further but i was so bored ( did it on treadmill ) as far as that (the treadmill) that was another concern......... are thing much different on the road than a treadmill.............
I found that I could diffinitly run longer on a treadmill, my Tm has shocks so its easier on the knees and you are pretty much forced to run when you set a speed.
to sum it all, I feel I went completely unprepared with out a plan ( I ran as long as I could then walked ) and I was scared as heck! but I did it! and so will you! see you there!

Thanks for all the suggestions for rainy day running. MelR thanks for the links to those rain coats.
One more interesting thing I noticed in my Marathon packet were the pictures of the runners. Each runner had his/her first name on the racing number thingy, big enough that spectators could read it. I thought that was pretty cool.
Major rest day for me today, the 17 miles in the cold and wet really wiped me out.
Craig, glad to hear from you! I knew you must have been busy with school. Glad you fitness level is coming along, you are right, 13 miles is now a short run, it is good to be so comfortable with that distance.

I had to take care of some personal business this morning before going to work. When I got home around (around lunch time) I checked the mailbox and I had a ton. As I was taking it out I saw a large white envelope with TinkerBell on it. Boy, did I start doing the Happy Packet dance :cool1: :cool1:
Then when I got inside and went to tear it open, I went from elation to depression in about 5 seconds. It wasn't my packet, but instead was my DVC 2006-07 planner. I never thought I'd be so unhappy to see mail from Disney. :sad1: It just wasn't the mail I was looking for.

Last year was the first year they did that. It was great because then everyone along the route could cheer you on by name. What was funny was my DH just put his first initial on the application form so his bib just said "K." He said everyone along the route kept yelling "Go K" "Way to go K" I told him to put his full first name on the application this year. Who knows if he listened to me? I think he kind of liked being a man of mystery. pirate:
Tiff- What's the weather like in CT? Just hoping that the weather is good for Nancy's Turkey Trot tomorrow.
Good luck to everyone with races this week, and Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

A Y membership is a dangerous thing :teeth: I went out last night to pick up stuff for the food I'm brining on T-day and since I always have a fully stocked spare gym bag in the car... and the Y was on the way... I stopped in for a quick 5 miler.http://www.livinglively.com/clipart/heehee.gif I was amazed at how many people came and went on the TMs while I was there. Here I was doing this "quickie" and outlasting wave after wave of people. My how things have changed!
I did lower body weights and elliptical trainer at my real gym at lunchtime. I scaled the leg press back to 420lbs. Next week I'll bring it down to 380lb. I'm not happy about it, but I will do it.
After work I'm bringing DS to go swimming. So far DD and Dx haven't been all that excited about our Y membership :confused3 I feel like a kid in a candy store :Pinkbounc
Oh my packet came :cool1: I should have put "Sunny" on my application. Oh well.
I can't wait to go for my early morning run on T-day. Last year was the first time I ever went running on T-day and it was sooooooo nice. Definitely a tradition I want to keep.

Still hanging out it packet purgatory with some of you :rotfl: To make myself feel better, I've told my DH (who received his packet last week) that they must be waiting to mail out the "elite runner" packets :rotfl2: With the long holiday weekend upon us, I'll be running to the mailbox daily.
Still nursing the plantar fasciitis, resting today in hopes of getting in some long training runs this weekend. Best of luck to all of you on your anticipated long runs.
I was able to change my flight into Orlando to a much earlier time on Friday, 1/6, which was a huge relief for me.
Happy Thanksgiving to my WISH family. I'll be counting my blessings as I am sure you all will be too.

Next time your found, with your chin on the ground
There a lot to be learned, so look around
Just what makes that little old ant
Think he’ll move that rubber tree plant
Anyone knows an ant, can’t
Move a rubber tree plant
But he’s got high hopes, he’s got high hopes
He’s got high apple pie, in the sky hopes
So any time your gettin’ low
’stead of lettin’ go
Just remember that ant
Oops there goes another rubber tree plant
When troubles call, and your back’s to the wall
There a lot to be learned, that wall could fall
Once there was a silly old ram
Thought he’d punch a hole in a dam
No one could make that ram, scram
He kept buttin’ that dam
’cause he had high hopes, he had high hopes
He had high apple pie, in the sky hopes
So any time your feelin’ bad
’stead of feelin’ sad
Just remember that ram
Oops there goes a billion kilowatt dam
All problems just a toy balloon
They’ll be bursted soon
They’re just bound to go pop
Oops there goes another problem kerplop

Good morning!! :sunny: Still no race packets. :guilty: Crossing my fingers for today. I had a good run on the treadmill last night, I did 45:20 and I ran 3.88 miles. I was kind of mad at myself for stopping so close to 4 miles. For my sr's I run minutes instead of distance, when I get to how many minutes I'm supposed to run, I stop and then after I stop, I look at my milage. I didn't know I was so close to 4 miles until I slowed the treadmill down to a 3.5 to cool down. Grrr. pirate:

Good morning everyone!
Yesterday I had what I thought was going to be my last post-op with my orthopedic surgeon. I passed my flex test. I passed my stability test. But I failed - miserably - at my strength test.
Nuts.
I was sentenced to six more weeks of PT.
Grrrrrr.
On a good note...I'm up to 3.0 on the TM. I'm very happy with my progress.

Sunny--What is your "real" name?
My real name is unique enough that if someone google's it, my WISH posts actually come back on the first page! I was horrified when I learned that and saw my WISH journal come up as number 2 on the list. I then went back and edited all my posts and started going by my online knickname, "Sunny". Plus, there is another someone with the same very unique name who has an "exotic" photography page of herself. That horrified me too, as I would hate for my online acquantences to think it was me.

I'm just back from the gym. I did 6.75 miles on the treadie. I set it at 6.5 mph and left it there for the whole run. It was quite comfortable.

Who posted about race shoes? I put my first 7 miles on my race shoes yesterday. I put the sales receipt in my training log and I'm going to log the miles on them. I plan to put about 70-80 miles on them prior to the race.
I use a website called winningstats.com (http://www.winningstats.com). On it you can log your mileage and time, and it computes your pace for you. My favorite part is you enter your shoes, and it computes the mileage as it adds up on the shoes. You can enter as many pairs as you use, and tell it which pair gets the mileage for that particular run. Best of all, the site is free and I never get junk email from them!!! :teeth:
Speaking of mileage, I did 16 miles yesterday. I was supposed to have done it Monday, but I, too, can't stand running in the rain, so I put it off a day. I got to about 11 miles before it started to get really hard. And, boy did it get hard. I popped Advil like candy all night, and am feeling much better today. And speaking of Advil, in the packet Disney sent, in the medical section, it says that ibuprophen and Naproxen (like Aleve) can affect the body's electrolyte regulation systems. This is news to me! Who knew that electrolytes were so darn hard to control. As it is, I decreased the Gatorade in my Camelbak, and relied to PowerGels for energy after the website that was posted last week warning us not to mix. I feel like I need a degree in nutrition before I can make this run! :confused3

Hi All - did my 9 miles last night, it was okay, I got all carried away during the first 3 miles (Which I run on my own before meeting the buddies) and ran 'fast'. I'd forgotten how nice a short, fast run can feel!!! Unfortunately, 60 year old running buddy was running the 6 miles with me afterwards and she won't let me slow down so I also ran those fast too - not so much fun.
I also wish my fourth toenail would just fall off and get on with it, it's driving me mad as every time I run now (without tape) it gets bruised again (remnants of my race 4 weeks ago). I would be worrying if this hadn't happened two years ago - then it fell off just in time for Disney (in the bathroom the night before). In any other forum that would be an odd post now wouldn't it!!!
Anyway, my packet still isn't here - the joy of airmail. I wonder how they're organising postage -you'd think alphabetically but then wouldn't our husband and wife team have got them together. And it can't be by entry date as I entered about 12.01am on entry day!!! Who knows what goes on in the world of the mouse.
Also, very upset as: Buzz Lightyears' Space Ranger Spin is in rehab throughout the whole of my trip. I'm very disappointed as this is the only time ever I beat my boyfriend at any kind of 'computer' game -thanks to some sneaky tips I picked up on this board that I have never, ever shared with him - and never will as it bugs him so much that I win!!!
So, before I sign off: Craig, nice to have you back. Liz - ditto, and I'm thinking of you, Sunny, aha another person guilty of vanity surfing (I share my name with a famous silent film star and a homicide officer somewhere in the US!!). HAve a good thanksgiving all - nice short run for me this weekend, just the 14 miles!!!! Helen

Monica...I don't think you need to worry yet. Looks like there's several of us that still don't have packets. That said, patience is not one of my 5 virtues...I'm giving them til Monday before I'm calling ;)
Colleen...there are tag fairies among us. Look under everyone's user name...anything that's done in color is a gift from the tag fairy. You can actually change what it says yourself, but only the tag fairies can do it in color.
Kiena...glad you're enjoying your Garmin. Running in the snow sounds quite lovely.
Erin...glad to see you around! The wild tod is just fine, thanks for asking. Tell us more about the offer you're thinking on.
Krista...What time should we be there for dinner? ;)
I host Christmas and do all the cooking for that, so Thanksgiving is at my aunt and uncle's and I slack. I only have to bring dessert...blueberry and apple cobblers from a local restaurant :lovestruc
It is kinda scary what info is out there on the internet. If you google me, there's many of the articles I wrote last year, some of my race results, and several people with my name, including some neat stuff on a girl who competes in equestrian events. Mom and I did the Turkey Trot in Bville this morning. Hadn't pre-registered so the decision came down to this morning. Got up and there was about 2 inches new white fluffy stuff but it wasn't actively snowing at that point. We decided to head over to Bville and hope that everywhere else had been plowed. We were in luck and most of the course was plowed for the 10 mile. There was one fairly steep downhill that was almost at the end of both courses that was treacherous though with the snow/ice. The 10 mile started 5 minutes after the 5 mile and the sun was trying to peak out while we were waiting. By mile 2 it was snowing again but stopped fairly quickly and then it was just cloudy and kind of windy. I wasn't happy with my time but made a new running friend that I did the entire race with, Brad from northern VA. That's why I don't wear headphones 'racing'- I'd rather talk my way through it. I don't know if it's the cold, not rested, the 2.5x1.25 inch oval of blister on the bottom of my foot from the arch supports, but I'm not happy with how I ran for pace. I was under 10 min/mile so it was okay for training but not where I want to be at for racing. Oh well, it's still 6 weeks to the marathon so plenty of time. It's not like I'm danger from the sweeper anyway.
Happy T-day to everyone. We have to drive to Grandma's house now.

I finished my first official race. Didi the Turkey Trot this morning;. It was supposed to be a 5 miler but the garmin says I only did 4.6 miles. My time was 1:06.  When I crossed the fininsh line, someone standing their "She's only a 5 miler." Some of the 10 milers were starting to come in also.
The temp was hovering around freezing and it snowede during part of the race. I didn't get cold until after I stopped.
My splits were:
Mile 1 - 12.52
Mile 2 - 14.22
Mile 3 - 14.05
Mile 4 - 15.20 (walked whole mile, no jogging)
Mille .6 - 7.44
If I can keep up that pace for the half, I will definitely get the Donald medal.
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone. Am off for a 2.5 hr drive to my Mom's even though she said not to come. It is currently snowing here and she is a worry wort. But she keeps saying I got my stubborness from my Dad.

Still on our trip but have a few min on a friend's computer. I wanted to check in and report on our Turkey Trot this AM. Woke up to that white stuff (snow) on the ground that we thought we had left behind when we moved to FL, but over DH's protests we went anyway. We did our 2 mile walk in what was a personal best for me. Now, please remember, I'm a very little dog here. I did a personal best for the 2 miles of 31:40! That's 15:20 per mile! I'd only gotten into the 16 min. range once before, and that was just for 1 mile! A lot of our walk was on slippery muddy grass, so I was really pleasantly surprised that my pace was good, but my legs really felt it after the race! Very shaky! :earseek: I might be able to go that pace for a 5K, but no way am I ready for a half at this point.
We head back home to warm, sunny FL tomorrow. I can hardly wait! I have no idea how I lived up here for 53 years, and this weather never bothered me much. 18 months in FL, and I'm in climate shock here! :sunny: I'll finish catching up when I get home but I do want to say I hope everyone had a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Good Morning and Happy Belated Thanksgiving!
Thanks for the well wishes and prayers for my father. He is out of the hospital and I am back home. It has been a long, hard journey for my dad, and unfortunately I think it is one that is just the begining of the end. Continued prayers for my dad would be much appreciated. All the signs are pointing lung cancer, but we have decided as a family not to go through with a biopsy. If my father were to go through with the biopsy, there is a very good chance he could colapse his good lung. He would then need to be intubated. He has told all of us he does NOT want that under no circumstances what so ever. I can't say that I blame him. Of course, if he were to go through with the biopsy all that would mean is that we would know what he has. At this point, it really isn't important to know if he has cancer or not. He doesn't want to go through chemo or radiation. Can't say that I blame him there either. He is 78 and in poor health to begin with. We all sat down and told my dad we would support whatever his decisions were. If he wanted to do chemo/radiation, we would be there for him...if not we would be there for him too. He told us he has lived a good life. Worked hard, played hard and now he is just tired. We let him know he needed to do what he needs to do and we would be there for whatever he decides and he could change his mind at any time....even though he is not a girl! (That is a big joke in our house. The women are far more abundant than men...and we ALWAYS change our minds!)
Anyway, Tuesday I left the hospital knowing that I most likely hugged my father for the last time. I didn't shed a tear until I got to the elevator...then I really lost it.
For those of you who are without your loved ones, my heart goes out to you. I think I am begining to know how it feels....and it is not a good feeling. Many hugs to you. May their memories be happy ones!
Anyway, I think I have go on about this enough, but wanted to give you all an update and a big THANK YOU for your concern and prayers.
Sounds like traing is really paying off! I will be starting again very soon as Lily and I plan on doing the Columbus Distance Classic on April 1, and the Chicago Distance Classic sometime in August.....and then hopefully onto Disney in January. We are calling this CCD....maybe we ought to dress up as nuns for these races!!! :rotfl2:
Again, many thnks for those keeping my family in your prayers. It is much appreciated!

Great job on the Turkey Trots!!!!
Well, I wish I could say I had a real stonker yesterday, but.... I didn't get my midweek run in and I still have speedwork to do. I did my LR on Sunday, because I thought I might have trouble getting to go. Yesterday, our company didn't arrive until afternoon and stayed late (which I enjoyed) I tried to run on my treadmill last night, but it is officially broken and I couldn't even get in 1/4 mile! Phil tried to fix it (because I have done all the work on it in the past) but to no avail! It was too late and too cold before I gave up on the treadmill. I then came up with plan B. That was to run this morning after Phil got back from rounds. I didn't realize that he has clinic today. His clinic is the only one open!!!!! He is also on call when he gets home :guilty: Hopefully, I'll get one run in today and then speedworkd tomorrow. BUMMER!!!

Liz - you and your family continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
OK - I'm the only person posting today, which tells you that I have had a lonely boring day. The boy and I hung out at home and avoided all shopping! Phil came home for a few hours this afternoon so I did get my 5 miler in!!!!! Anyway, he got called back in..... The lonely hours continue :-)
The run went pretty well. I kept a pretty good pace and had negative splits. I know how everyone feels about treadmills, but I am entertaining buying a good one to put downstairs. That is where the only TV in the house is, and I could easily get 5 miles in while the boy watches his morning shows! When the weather is mild, I can con the boy the get out and go in the jogger with me, but it is getting too cool for his liking. I think if he knew there were other people outside, he would go, because he is VERY social! I am too. I was stalking my neighbors as I ran this evening. There was one guy walking the block in the opposite direction, so I met him every lap and forced him to talk. One friend getting home from work with whom I had a fly by conversation and then the family getting back from bike riding that I tourtered for a couple of lap passes! Oh yeah, and the guys outside smoking b/c their wives won't let them smoke in the house, I did say hi to them too. I'll bet the neighborhood is glad I only had 5 miles tonight!
Liz - i will continue praying for you & your family. I don't know what else to say.
Hope everyone had a great turkey day & congrats to all our turkey trotters! CT was snowed on yesterday, about 4-5 inches where I'm at.
Kiena- No, I didn't make the turkey trot either. I'm too wimpy to run in that stuff. In fact, I'm putting tomorrow's run off until the afternoon. It's only 4 miles, but isn't it supposed to get down to 15 tonight? Ugh.
Just a quick check in, WTG Lisa on your walking & running :earseek:good for you.
Good luck on all the LRs tomorrow!

Thank you for sharing the philosophy of your Dad and your family about his illness. I cannot think of a better way to look at the last stage of life.
I think this will be far harder on you than you imagine. I lost my Dad when he was 56 and I was 35. He'd had a few heart scares so I thought I was ready, but I was wrong. My wife tells me that 13 years later I really haven't accepted his loss, and she it correct. There isn't a single day that I don't think about him, miss him, and wish more than anything in the world that I could see him and he could see what his son, beloved daughter-in-law, and far-more-than-beloved granddaughter were doing.
Good luck to you and your family. You have my best wishes.

Liz- I am so sorry for what you are going through. We are all thinking of you and hoping you & your family are able to find some peace & comfort :grouphug:
Nancy- AWESOME JOB  :Pinkbounc That was a great job on your race & the fact that you still went out there under those climate conditions says alot. Be very proud!!
Heather- I told DH someone in our training group got a new carbon bike for Christmas. He just rolled his eyes at me. I'm hoping to get a bike soon at least by the first of the year so I can start tri training. I dont even expect a carbon one, a good aluminum one would be fine.
Kathy-congrats on your first race. You did great. Doesnt it feel good to know that come January, we CAN do this
MelR- Funny story about being bored. I drive DH nuts when I get bored. I'm very social too!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Oh my! What did I start with the whole "secret name" thing :rotfl2: I'm glad you are all amused at the "other" one with my name! The secret isn't to keep you guys from knowing my name, the secret is to keep colleagues from linking my name with my DIS (and other OL) activities ;) There are alot of nosey people out there!!!!!
MelR-- I would have gladly been on the board yesterday. I had boasted to all at work how I wouldn't be caught dead at the mall this weekend and then DD managed to break me down :crazy2: So DS and I begrudgingly spent the day at the mall with her. But the good news is, Dx felt so bad for me that he suggested I go over to the Y if I wanted to :Pinkbounc So last night I got to try out one of their "cadillac" tms, Its really cool, it has a track around the display and little red arrows light up as you make a lap. Plus a personal fan and a personal cardio theatre. Star Wars Attack of the Clones came on so I was good to go for a long time. I did 7.5 miles. Dx is working today so no LR, I'll do my short LR tomorrow. This week is just 12 miles.
I finally made it over to WW for my November Lifetime WI yesterday. I was pretty proud of myself that I could WI the day after T-day
I was all disappointed when I projected my mileage and realized I will most likely come up about 20 miles short of my "Running to Disney Challenge" prior to the trip. Then I decided the marathon will be the culmination of the run to disney and that sounded pretty darn cool to me :teeth:

Sunny - I think your idea of using the marathon to complete your running to disney is an awesome idea!!!!!!! You should find a way to celebrate when you reach your goal along the course. Then you can have multiple victories along the way!!!!!
Since I got the packet and can see where we will be running, I have been trying to imagine the course as I run. That is really fun. Who gave us that idea? Was that you Solo????
Phil is off for the weekend!!!! YEAH!!!! I'm hoping that we have a relaxing weekend at home. We may get some mountain biking in if possible. I think it is too windy to kayak and I think we have decided not to go climbing this weekend. That is fine by me because i'm not the greatest climber anyway and I usually spend a lot of time breaking up property disputes amoung the children (the boy plus a couple of extras belonging to our friends)

Hi and congratulations to everyone training for January and beyond.
I just discovered this site and your forum. I wonder is there room for another runner in training and in need of extra support. I certainly understand if it is too late to join your group for this January.
I have been running for years and have been planning for Disney World Marathon 06 for quite a long time. I have been training hard until September when I developed a nasty case of plantar fasciitis in my right foot. I have been "resting" for about 2 months. The pain has calmed, however, it is still lingering. I want to give it a try in January and my DW and our 3 children DS (9) and DDS (TWINS 6) are rerady for our vacation. My last long run was a 1/2 marathon in September. I know I am not on a classic training schedule, however, I have run 5 other marathons and feel I can get ready in the next 7 weeks if the pain stays fairly quiet. I actually ran 12 miles over the last 2 days and can still walk this morning. This was the first back to back running days in more than 2 months. Plus my packet just arrived and is adding to my excitement.
Thanks for listening and please let me know what more I need to do in order to be part of this amazing group.

Welcome, Harry! We've always got room for more! Where are you staying for the marathon? Feel free to join us for the Trail's End dinner on Jan 6...we have plenty of seats available.

I think the aliens got me this a.m. I've been having allergy issues (not breathing well) and was dreading doing the W3/R2 pace today, even though I was only scheduled to do 6 miles. So...my brilliant idea was to do W3/R1 and do 9 miles instead since I did 8 last weekend. Then I thought, hey, since I'm doing 9, I might as well do 9.3 so I can tryout the Minnie distance. Ummm...9.3 miles is a LONG way. :worship: for all of you training for the full! My pace was 14:30, which used to be exciting for me, but now seems slow ;)
Congrats to all of you that had races this weekend! Our team's looking great!
Nancy...that's an amazing time, especially in those conditions! Way ahead of your Mayfaire time...what an improvement!
Liz... :grouphug:
Sunny...I love the TMs at the Y. Ours have cable, but the movie thing sounds really cool!
We're off for a daytrip tomorrow to WDW, so I'll be posting for next week later tonight. DD12 spends Thanksgiving with her dad on the other coast. We usually meet near Orlando to pick her up, then head into one of the parks for a few hours.
Good grief...is Thanksgiving really over? :scared1:

Liz - I will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers. I lost my Dad about 9 years ago after a long illness. He didn't want any extra measures taken either. :wizard: :grouphug:
I got busy with BF shopping and skipped my planned SW for yesterday. Although I probably walked about 4 miles at the malls and other stores I went to.
Got up today and did an 8.5 mile walk in 2 hours 2 minutes. Guess that's just about a 14:20 per mile pace. I can live with that. By race day I hope to be able to mix in some running spurts also.

WOW! This new look took me back! I did not know where I was at first!
I finally got out and exercised today. It feels great to be back after the long break from the hip injury. I got my Christmas present early yesterday (a new carbon fiber road bike). I rode 17 miles this morning.
OK, I am so jealous! I have about 1/2 the $$ saved for my bike! Trying to break DH down to pay for the rest. Send me :wizard: for this.
Only did 12 for the LR this week end. My MPM was around 9:35. I thought it was cold (32 when we started) but after reading some of these post about the cold weather, it was almost hot.
Next weekend is the Charlotte Marathon so wish me and Bree luck. I have vowed to only drink H2O this week and to eat good. That has not happened so far. Maybe I should stick to what works and just eat as much as I can and drink diet cokes. :rotfl: I crack myself up!
Melissa - My DH works long hours too, so I understand being bored! Congrats on neg splits! Love those days!
Liz - Prayers to you and your family! :grouphug:

Sunny--I missed the secret name thing. I feel so out of the loop. I like what you are using though to go incognito :). Congrats on your run to Disney--what a way to finish it up...AT Disney.
Harry--Welcome and sorry for your setback. I have a friend here who has done a few and has had an off training season as well. She's going to go for it anyway. Have you tried cross training? You might be able to pick your cardio up to speed much quicker. Today was my first normal run in over a month after knee surgery to remove a meniscus tear. I'd say as long as you weren't going for a win or a PR...but just for the fun of it--you will be okay as long as you take it easy.
Terri--I used black Friday as my excuse. But hey--I got my Disney snowglobe at Penney's :)
Christa--I love the "only" 12 and the Charlotte Marathon next weekend. Good luck to you! YOu are a powerhouse runner!
Ran 4 miles today---it was the MFM scheduled training. Was going to try for 6 or 7--but...a bit boring all alone in the basement of where we are staying.
My time was 51:54. Close to pace--the running is good...must get used to the walking at 4mph. The "pain" sensations (not really a pain--but the tender spots from teh arthroscopic invasion) are getting less and less. Doc says there is absolutely nothing wrong with my knee and it very much feels that way. The right knee is holding up well (was giving lots of problems pre-surgery due to imbalance). Strengthening is helping it. My legs saw a 6.0mph pace (only for about 15-30 seconds) for the first time in about a month. :) And they didn't complain one bit.
Sorry for not catching up with others--hubby is headed to the Altanta airport in a few minutes. I'm leaving dark and early in the overnight to drive back to Florida--about 1-2-ish in the a.m. And there is giving me the boot! Toodles all.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I just returned from taking my son to an ice skating birthday party and was thrilled to find your kind welcome message. I have kept up my cardio with some bike riding at the gym. I'm not concerned with a personal time, I just want to run, meet nice people, have fun and complete the Disney World Marathon in January. I also want to be able to walk the parks and enjoy a vaction with my family the week following the marathon. Your words of encouragement are helpful. I am going to run and be a part of the excitement of the Disney World Marathon.

Goodness, did you come to the right place! :cheer2: There is a good group of folk here. Try and make it to our Trails End Dinner, a lot of us will be there. The majority of us don't "know" each other, but over the past months, it has been a great source of encouragement and motivation for me. :grouphug: It will be wonderful to finally meet everyone.
There is a large contigent running/walking the half marathon, a good size group running the full and of course all the 'goofy's' running both.
Stop by often, it is a good place to be.

Today I was scheduled to do 4 miles. I cant believe my LR was only 4 & I cant believe i now think that is nothing. I actually ended up doing 4.7 and my pace rocked!!! 14:16 and that included a .5 mile warmup  For a good part of it I was walking in the 13's :cheer2:
Harry- Welcome! This is a great group of people. We always have room for more. This group is what got me into this 1/2 mary adventure & they are helping me with the training along the way. Glad you are getting better. I too am just excited to be a part of it all.
MelR- what a cool, active lifestyle you have!
Christa-I'm jealous of Heather too. I want a bike!!!!

Welcome Harry! I have great empathy for you at the moment, because after 16 miles on Tues and 8 miles Thurs, I am having severe pain in my foot. Feels like a pulled muscle. It is not swollen and doesn't hurt at all unless I am walking on it, but, boy does it hurt when I do. Shoes seem to make the pain worse. I am feeling very blue right now. I have two more weeks of 16 mile LRs and two of 18 mile LRs, and I am very, very nervous about having an injury right now. :confused3
I guess I'll try to get in and see the doc this week, but I am terrified he'll try and talk me out of the marathon. Um, no, that's not gonna happen, even if I have to limp the whole thing. Grrrr, I was doing so well until now! :headache:

Finally doin' the packet dance!!! Woo hoo. I guess it's correct... I'm doing Goofy and my card says "H/M Race #xxxx Race #xxxx." I guess that means race nos. for both the half and full. Somewhere in the book it says for Goofy people to present their "cards" at packet pick up, but I only got the one, but with the 2 numbers on it. So I guess it's right. Is this what other goofy's got?
Welcome Harry. You're certainly not too late to join in the fun.
Prayers for Liz. There's not much I can say except I'm sorry and stay strong. :grouphug:
Yay for everybody doing well on the training and get well soon for all those nursing injuries. I think this is the 1st Thanksgiving in a while I haven't worried about how much I ate. All of it will burn off in the coming weeks!!! Happy rest of the holiday all!!!

Disneefun - I just got the one card for the Goofy, too. I was so happy to get my packet today. I was feeling left out.
Is anyone planning to walk the full marathon? It's not my ideal plan, but if I can't resolve the problem with my leg, then walking will be the only option if I want to finish the Goofy. Hoping, if I have to walk I can keep up the 14 minute pace the whole way. Just don't want to get the weird looks or feel out of place for walking.

Hi, I haven't posted since the Marine Corps marathon - I was in Aruba for a week (great way to relax after 26.2!) Then I went to a racewaking camp in Clermont, Florida at the National Training Center - a great experience. If there are any other racewalkers here you really have to consider doing Dave McGovern's RWing camp next November!
I still have not received my packet :<
My registration for the Goofy is still listed so I guess its just taking a long time to get to Maryland.
BTW, Terri, I am definitely planning to walk the Goofy. That will be about 9 hours of walking for me that weekend - maybe longer - the MCM took me 6:30 because of some injuries interfering with training the last month. Whatever it takes!
After this marathon I'm planning to stick to halfs, 10 milers, etc. I want to do the National Masters Championship 20K Racewalk next year.

Harry and Leigh Ann - I'm stressing a little about injuries too. I have not felt too hot since the 18 mile run. I did a slow 15 but then rested for a few days and then did 5 last night and 3 speedwork today and my right leg hurts at the knee and ankle!!!!! I have been all paranoid about stress fractures!!!! I asked phil and he said that my points of pain would be strange for stress fractures. I have 2 20 milers left, preceeded by 10 milers. I'm thinking my taper may be more rest and less running than my plan recommends!
Christa - sorry you have the lonely hours too!
