We are supposed to go to WDW on 11/2. Would you be afraid to fly then? Or is there ever going to be a time were you feel it will be safe.

We're leaving 11/29... and here's the way I look at it... I'm not going to let terrorists run my life... Sure, I'll be nervous, but I've been planning this trip for WAY TOO LONG to stop now! My bigger concern at this point is, with all the airlines cutting back the number of flights (and staff), will I still have a flight out?

I think each person needs to make up their own mind as to whether they feel comfortable or not. If my trip were tomorrow I'd be fine with it. I like to fly, but have noticed that I'm more axious as I get older (I have my kids to think of now). I think I'd be more afraid of engine problems or something like that than of being hijacked. Just my thoughts. I'm actually looking forward to my flight in December (kids not going) so I can get some of the anxiety over with. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

I'll be a little nervous about it, but I'm still flying to WDW in Dec.
Airport security will be tighter than usual.
If many people live in fear, then the evil wins.

My husband and I talked about this just yesterday. We are supposed to be flying to Disney Nov 28 at 9:55 PM and returning on Sun, Dec 2. After what happened last week (on my birthday), I was ready to cancel and just drive. My husband thinks I'm being silly - its too long of a drive for just a short visit (we're going to see the Christmas decorations). I'm a very nervous flier to start with, and I know he's really right, but I'm still scared. I don't want something like what happened to dictate my whole life, but again, we're flying with the kids and I'm concerned.

Agree -- everyone needs to determine their own needs and wants regarding travel.
We are planning on continuing our January WDW trip, which includes flying.
I usually fly to my mothers over Thanksgiving. That I am re-considering. But one reason I am going to wait and see what the holiday travel will be like. It may be very light.
But my mother doesn't live in a place where it is easy in/easy out, so that's part of my reconsideration.

Our trip is slated for Nov. 5 - 12th and unless they close down the airports again, we will be on our flight. As others have said, I refuse to let terriosts direct my life. My DH and I will start our morning with prayer, put our trust in God, and begin our vacation. God Bless the USA!

We are going to WDW on Nov. 17th with our two kids--We are nervous (to say the least). We will never feel totally safe again--but we can't live in fear. My kids haven't expressed any fear about getting on a plane & I'm glad--I don't want them to be upset about flying.
My husband just flew out this morning on a business trip for the first time since this tragedy. I was very nervous all morning--he knew that I wouldn't relax until he landed in San Diego. When my cellphone rang I nearly jumped out of my skin! He is fine--no problems what-so-ever! There was a noticable increase in security though--everyone was VERY quiet. We need to get used to him traveling--he usually flies at least twice a week. Life goes on...

We are flying out on Nov 29th as well. We have been planning this trip for a year and a half. Yes, we will not enjoy the flight as much (not that I ever really ENJOYED flying..I get sick, so have to drug myself up), but I figure, if we let it stop us now, we'll NEVER go anywhere. This could go on for a very long time and it's just something we'll have to adjust to. I'm sure when I get on that plane I will be feeling it and remembering and we've got a LONG way to fly, comin' from California. I'm hopin' for a good long movie to take my mind off :)

My sister & I are flying down on November 10 (54 days!) and we are still planning to fly as scheduled. We're just hoping the airlines don't go bankrupt or cancel half their flights!
But if they do, we'll drive down!

We will be going in December as well and I will not be feeling anything about the flight. The only thing is what the security situation be in December. They are telling people to show up 4HOURS before your flight. I think this is excessive. If they cannot rely on the xrays then they should close down the airports all together. I don't think that searching carry ons by hand will improve the situation. I don't mind security but there has to be a point not to go past but as it stands now there is no point. I figured when God wants you, you are going to go so wether it be in a plane or on the ground you will be there. Everyone have a good flight and I might see you there in December.

I did quite a bit of flying before the events that took place last Tuesday and I feel this way about it. Air travel is no safer now then it was before Tuesday's events ... If anything, it has improved a little.
The surreal possibility of a Hijacking or even something as catastrophic as Tuesday’s events has always been a reality. Although, it is a reality that the majority of us had NEVER fathomed until it occurred.
I do admit that before Tuesday's accidents, I was more worried about the shape and condition of the aircraft that I was riding in, more so then the possibility of whom could be plotting to use that aircraft as a weapon of terrorism.
After carefully pondering air travel and the question, "Would you fly again?" I would have to say, "Yes, I will definitely fly again" ... Although ALL of the airlines have sustained not only devastating loses of revenue because of the terrorist attack, but they have also taken a MAJOR hit on their credibility and the safety of flight travel. My only hope is that our air travel industry will be able to pull themselves out of the financial devastation that they suffered on Tuesday. I would hate to think what would happen to our trips to Disney if we no longer had the luxury of air travel.
So I ask you to please take into consideration my words that the industry was just as safe to travel with before this disaster as it is now. I understand that probably the majority of this board doesn't view the air travel industry as I do, but if we were to lose it altogether that would be another devastating blow to America.

We are flying to WDW on 11/5. I'm not going to be worried about flying. Security will be better then ever.

Afraid? Nope. We're planning on flying to Orlando in early November and then again over New Year's Eve.
My family is flying Nov 4th and they are nervous I keep telling them that I think now is the safest time to fly. Security is very high. I am a little nervous but I have planned this trip for almost a year and I want to go. I will not let some rotton people controll my life. Michelle
My family of 4 is still planning on going to WDW in November. In my opinion, I'm going to get there one way or another!!! I think everyone needs to do what they are most comfortable with. For those of us not leaving for awhile I think its good to have a little cooling off period after last week. I think we may still fly, but with all that's happened we started checking on driving plans. For us we still have 50 days before our trip and I'm sort of glad we have time to think about what we want to do.
The first time I ever flew I was with my grandmother and she taught me to always say a short prayer before take off and landing. I've always continued that with every flight I've taken since. It was sort of just a routine that I did quietly in my seat. I was thinking on my next flight it has a lot more meaning to it than ever before.........

My wife is more nervous than ever before about flying. If she actually thought about it, she is a little safer now than she was before. Technically, these probably weren't the first domestic flights that these horrible individuals took. We could have been in danger on any number of plane trips. I told her we would take it day by day. If she was not comfortable with flying, then I guess we need to prepare ourselves for a long drive. Life still is worth living for despite the sorrow, pain, and anger that many of us feel.

I hate flying. I have never felt comfortable in a plane, but I want to see the world. About 7 years ago, I asked myself which was more important: seeing as much of the world as I can or not flying? I had always dreamed of traveling, but never did because I didn't feel uncomfortable flying. I took a short trip from Florida to St. Thomas and another trip to Las Vegas. Even though I hated it, I realized that I could keep myself distracted reading or sleeping for a few hours. My next trip was a 8 hour flight to Spain. I hated the flight, but my few hours of discomfort were worth the experiences I had. A year later, I suffered an even longer trip and went all the way to Egypt. I had to switch planes twice and spent countless hours in the air. It was worth it! Since then I've been to Central Europe and Belgium. A friend once asked me if I was ever afraid to fly. What would I do if the plane was in trouble or going to crash? "Yes," I replied. "I am always afraid when I board a plane and if the plane was in trouble, I would be crying and praying. But at least I would face death knowing that I died fulfilling my dreams. So few people have that chance." Now I have even more reason to be afraid. But I won't stop. There is too much of the world that I haven't seen. I will be damned if I let a crazed fanatic keep me from that dream. That is how I feel because that is how strongly I feel about traveling. Should you fly? That depends on how strongly you feel. Is this a routine trip that can be replanned or are you fulfilling a dream?

We also are flying out Nov 29th from Indy. We are going to wait until closer to the time to make the decision about going or not. We are going to war, and I do not know what life will be like on Nov 29th or before. We will have to pray about it and see how our country is doing at that time. I don't drive and dh would have to drive almost 24hrs straight to get us there or take lots of days to get there if we drove. At this point I think we will go, and we will fly. Children age 7&5 know what has been happening and they too have not said anything about being scared to fly. I agree that every person has to decide for themself what is the best thing to do. Just remember that facing our fears and conquering them makes us stronger. God bless you all! :) ;) :smooth:

Gee, I wish I had your resolve. We have a trip planned 10/17 and have decided to drive down from Massachusetts. It will be a long drive, but I'm just too nervous to consider flying at this point. I hope my nervousness disappears over time......:(

We are still planning on flying down in Nov. although I am pretty nervous about it. I have not liked flying since working a summer for TWA and have had numerous plane explosion nightmares since then. Although this past week was worse than any nightmare I've ever had.
I am a little concerned about my 4 year old DD. She saw the footage over and over last Tuesday cause I needed to watch in order to get my DH home from the city. She knows d*mn well those planes hit those buildings in "daddy's city" but I'm hoping she doesn't understand the full implications.

Everybody says...don't be afraid, we can't let this change our lives, but I personally feel, until they have "defenses" IN THE SKY, me and my family are staying on the ground. I once seen on a 20/20 program, this America young respectable man had a "panic attack", and he got sooooo out of control, it was up to the passengers to take care of him, cuase he wanted in that cockpit! Here the passengers ended up killing this man to save the plane, and of coarse his family is now suing the airline, probably the passengers too. None of this HAD to happen. It's simply unthinkable to me to not have SOMETHING, not necessarliy a gun- although I like this idea too, but at least something to tranqualize them from a distance (heck we do it for big animals - TO SAVE THEIR LIVES, to give them shots, etc)....then the passegers could handcuff the troublemaker or terrorists and nobody would have to die in the air.
When I see this in place, I will gladly fly with NO fear. Chances are you'll be just fine, I am a "worrier" by nature and even a little risk is too much for me.

I agree with some of the posts here -- they will not make me a prisoner of my home. We leave 11/4, return 11/18. I may be more apprehensive, but will still fly. What bothers me most is having a good time while all this is happening. I know it won't be the same.

Will I fly again? You betcha..:) Would I drive to Floriday from Ohio? NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS...ugggh...lol Myself and my boys leave Sept 26 for 6 wonderful days with the Mouse. This will be both boys 5th flights...and they are so excited (and yes they are aware of what just happened in the US) They are ages 6 and 9. We have discussed the whole trip and they are not concerned. Its always been my theory if you teach kids fear as a parent, then its going to be there. I as a parent try to never do that....I teach my kids to be careful and cautious but never to be afraid of doing something that they love. We love Disney and look forward to every trip.
My thoughts on all the safety concerns....
Its not going to matter where you are...what state....what location. If terrorism strikes..it can strike anywhere at any given moment. A train...a mall...an amusement park....a hospital....where you work...etc. Anywhere that there is a large amount of people; a terrorist has no boundaries of where or when they will strike. If we walk around in fear the rest of our lives...that would be really tuff. I feel horrible for what happened to New York and the Pentagon and the planes but by giving in to fear.....thats exactly what these pathetic excuses for humans want and I just refuse to do that.
Life is too short..as we have all seen in the last week...don't let it pass you by...
:p
We're flying on 11/23. I'm a nervous flyer anyway, and I have to admit that I am more nervous now. BUT, I won't let that stop me! A couple of days after last week's tragedies, my DS8 did ask me if it would be safe to fly. He knew that the airports were closed for quite a while. I told him that it will be safe and that the reason the airports were closed last week was because they wanted to make sure that it's very safe for everyone to fly.
Now if I can just make myself believe that, too!

I am B3LM's sister and I am getting on a plane Tuesday. Hopefully, this will help my nephew and nieces be comfortable enough to get on a plane. Wish me luck!

Each person must decide for themselves what they are comfortable with. It's not about "letting the terrorists win" - it's about following your "gut instincts".. We (my son-in-law, daughter, 3-year old granddaughter, and myself) flew to Orlando from upstate New York on September 9th. We were due to fly back home on September 22nd but instead opted to keep our rental car and drive home. Took us 24 hours - 12 hours each day - but in the long run felt we made the right choice.. Our decision was based on the fact that over 400 FBI agents had been sent to the Orlando area due to the large amount of terrorists at large in those surrounding counties.. Add to that the fact that once MCO re-opened it was evacuated not once, but twice, due to bomb threats and a "suspicious" package - as well as a passenger being hauled off a flight to New York because he was being unruly, making threats, etc.; - and we felt we owed it to that little 3-year old girl to opt for a more cautious avenue home.. I'm sure that the flight we were scheduled to take made it back here to New York with no problems but our "gut" feelings said "don't fly" so we didn't.. Now - having said that, will I ever fly again? Yes - I'm sure I will - but I just don't feel that this is the time to do it and until my "gut" tells me otherwise I will keep my feet planted firmly on the ground. Try to set aside your fears and base your decisions only on the FACTS that are at hand and what your instincts tell you and whatever avenue you choose will ultimately be the safest one for you and your family. God bless all and have a safe and happy trip..
