I finished another digital page. This is from a new book I started. I know, I haven't finished the other one yet, but I was inspired by my recent trip. This book is all about the Michigan Monuments at Gettysburg. We found 9 of 10 of them. And the one we didn't find was more a flank marker than an actual monument. So its all good! The first page is the first monument we found: the 24th MI Infantry.
http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/MIGettysburg/IronBrigade-SM.jpg
This layout is of the monument for the 24th Michigan Infantry at Gettysburg, PA. The 24th Michigan was part of the famed "Iron Brigade" who were known for wearing the black "Hardee" hat instead of the regular issue kepi. At Gettysburg on July 1, 1863 the 24th MI suffered the highest percentage of loss of any unit engaged at Gettysburg. Of the 493 men who started the battle, only 99 reported for duty the next day. That is an 80% casualty rate. They fought bravely and with honor. The words on this page are from the dedication ceremony in June 1889. It is a fitting tribute the state of Michigan has given to the men of the 24th who gave their lives for the cause of freedom. I did use some elements in this layout that I downloaded, but at this time don't have the names to give credit to the creators. I will try to look them up later and add them.

Yep, this was a "Preferred View" 1 bedroom unit. We usually get "Boardwalk View" but this was a really nice alternate view.
I suppose I really should get around to adding the journaling some day. :)

I did a couple more digital layouts.
The first is from my Michigan at Gettysburg book: the 16th Michigan Infantry
http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/MIGettysburg/16thMichigan-SM.jpg
The 16th Michigan Infantry was part of Strong Vincent's brigade at Gettysburg whose task it was to defend Little Round Top. Little Round is quite steep and rocky. The 16th Michigan monument is located on the edge and difficult to get to. With the help of the brave men of the 16th MI the Union army was able to push the Confederates back and avoid defeat. The words on the page come from the dedication ceremony on June 12, 1889.
This one is from my Antietam book: New York State Monument
http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/NYState-SM.jpg
This is my favorite monument at Antietam. One of my favorite photos is included in this layout, see if you can guess which one. One-fourth of the Union army at Antietam was from New York. The state of New York suffered 3,765 casualties during the battle. This is the largest monument on the battlefield. You can see it from many different parts of the field. It is an amazing monument.

I was so inspired by y'all and my new Cricut, I finished my title page to a little CM 7 x 7 book I'm putting together. It's going to contain pictures taken at the same place in the parks or with the same characters through the past 6 Disney trips. The "now" pictures will be in color and the "then" pictures are all going to be in black & white. I've got some of the comparison photos on my blog (link below). It's amazing how much my kids have grown.
I still need to clean up some of the glue residue around the squares. I use the little X xyron when I do mosaics, but it's hard to get all of the glue off around the edges. I try to rub around each piece before I pull it out of the plastic and backing, but it still manages to have this residue.
I embossed the Disney letters from the Circut with silver and also embossed stamped "THEN," brackets, and a pocket watch on the lower right. You can't see the pocket watch clearly in my picture. I apologize for the bad photo.
Thanks for all the inspiration and for the heads-up on the Cricut deal last week! It has helped me get the ideas flowing again!

Thanks! The Disney is the Circut Mickey Font at 1 inch, I believe. I thought it would be one big piece but it was individual letters. I took each black letter and embossed with silver. It was crazy. I had to hold each little piece with a toothpick. I kept losing the pieces to the "I". LOL!
I'm loving the Cricut! I wonder what the hype was, but now I konw. It's a great tool. I still love my Sizzix, too. In fact, my dh asked about my Big Shot he just got me for Christmas. He asked, "Is it obsolete now?" Heck no, I told him. I need it all! :yay:
BTW, I showed dh this layout and he liked it. He had to comment about my tall head! He's a crazy guy. I hated having to split us up, but with mosaics and a group photo, someone is getting the axe. It really made my head look very tall but it's funny to me.

Susan - I got the eyelets at Walmart in their sewing section. They even have larger ones. The ones you see really aren't so big - I was able to set them with my crop-a-dile. They're a little larger than you would normally use the crop-a-dile for, but it did the trick. I was trying to get it done the day before we left and didn't have time to rummage around for my large eyelet setting tool.
Thanks for your comments!

Thanks so much for showing your work and the ideas!! I love, love all the pages you guys have done and look forward to seeing more.
The itinerary book you have done is giving me inspiration for my next project...
I'm currently working on my DD2's scrapbook/activity book for the airplane ...it's something new for me b/c I want to make it nice but also realize that DD will be able to color and sticker all the pages to give it "her personal touch!"
A question for you all -- what is the strongest glue/tape out there that is safe for scrapbooking?? (I fear little hands will love grabbing all the ribbons, etc and would like to keep them on as long as possible...currently using Tacky Tape).
Thanks!

There is a great double sided adhesive that is very aggressive-- it is made for attaching beads. I can't remember the brand name but it is like a clear red because of the backing. I used it to attach ribbon to velvet, plastic to fabric, etc. Hope this helps-- I looked on a couple of websites to see if I could find the name, but to no avail. I got it at Michaels.

I haven't posted in such a long time. Mostly because I haven't worked on anything Disney. But just to let you all know I am working here are a couple of pages I have finished this month. These are my favorites! http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o311/Madisonznana/scrapbooking/JulyLOs063.jpgMy little princess: My dgd Madison!
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o311/Madisonznana/scrapbooking/Myfavoritesflowers.jpg Pictures taken at Cawdor Castle in Scotland.
The next is a set of pages that are going into my me book.
Page one has me on top at my First Communion and Confirmation, then my oldest daughter at her confirmation.
The following page is my son and younger daugher at their confirmation.

I did 3 more pages in my "It's All About Me" album today. The vellum over the photos is just for privacy reasons. I don't know if you can read the journaling on the sister page, but it's a quote I found online somewhere that says:
To the outside world we all grow old.
But not to our sisters.
We know each other as we always were.
We know each other's hearts.
We share private family jokes.
We remember family feuds and secrets,
family griefs and joys.
We live outside the touch of time.
Since all the photos of us are WAY old, it seemed appropriate somehow:).

This last page is entitled Generations Photo because it is a picture of me, my sister, and my grandmother holding my elder daughter when she was a baby. My mother died before I had children so the photo skips a generation, but it was as close as we could get with the people we had available:).

It's hard to see in the pictures, but I used pop up squares to have the sections of the Pop map that applied to our stay pop up from the page(i.e., the building we were in, the pool, Classic Hall). I also have the room number plate and the towel animal popping out.

This is my sister when her beautician didn't get her hair color right. Needless to say Sue was really upset, I couldn't help but laugh. Of course, always the scrapbooker and photographer, grabbed my camera and scrapped this immediately, just so she wouldn't forget this day! :rotfl:

Great page of your sister! how funny that a scrapbooker would find humor in your sister's hair being dyed the wrong color. LOL! I would have done the same. In moments like those my first reaction is to grab the camera and snap away. LOL! Great layout.

What I did was, for the very last page (i.e. since there's only one) I did a page called "odds and ENDS" for it being the end of the book and the fact that it contained miscellaneous items. I just picked out a cute paper and glued stuff randomly around the page. I ended up loving it!! I think I would have put in a random picture of the two of us if I were repeating this in future books to kind of give it a little more cohesiveness, but since I was doing an 8x8 there wasn't space.

I originally posted this in my Disney scrapbook thread, but will also post it here.
I finally took a few pictures of new layouts. :) This one is for "It's A Small World." I scraplifted the layout idea from Tomianne on the Cricut board. When I saw the layout she had done for a family vacation I thought it would lend itself well to IASW since you can fit lots of pictures in and it doesn't look too crowded or overwhelming. I used Opposites Attract for the letters. It took quite a while to glue all of them down. Ugh. For the first set of pages each picture was cut at 2x2 inches, but I had less photos for the second set of pages, so I cut those 2x4. It was sort of a pain to cut out the pictures because when I did it I used my Fiskars trimmer because I don't have a 2x2 punch, which would probably make it easier. If I was to do a layout like this again, I would use a punch. I would love to get the Paper Dolls cart and create some people for the sides, but I will be patient and wait until its not exclusive to AC Moore.

My scrapbook is a Creative Memories 12x12 album. I use the same album for all of my trips to Disney, so It has a lot of pages. Not really sure how many. I would suggest instead of using a 3-ring binder get a bound scrapbook. They are expandable, so you can put as few or as many pages as you want. You can get them at any craft store and even Wal-Mart has a pretty good selection. Good Luck with your first scrapbook. We would love to see pictures when you get a few pages completed.

I don't like that because of the 3 rings, there is a huge gap between the pages. I think it looks much more scrapbook-y to have the pages lie close together, so the two pages almost make one big page.

I made this book for my cousin over the summer for her bridal shower. I felt it was a better gift than some usless kitchen appliance that she will never use, but registered for since she had to put something on her list of gifts. It is supposed to represent her life till that day. The last page was incomplete when I took the photo, but I had her mother and 2 other bridesmaids write little words of wisdom on squares and I afixed them to the last page right before I gave it to her at the party. Her wedding is next weekend and I am making her an exploding box to complement this book.
She has already requested a honeymoon book, so I think that will be Chrsitmas 2008 gift since she is going away for a month (imagine the amount of photos!:scared1: )and I will never be able to get it done before this holiday!

Here are a couple of pages I finished today. I cut the title using George with the shadow feature at 1". I used my Big Shot to cut out the stars behind the letters. I really like these pages....it felt like they kind of laid themselves out...in fact, I may have seen the title idea somewhere on here, but I don't remember where. So, if it was your idea, thanks!

I worked on this layout at the Scrapbook convention my sister and I went to, but finally finished it. My kitten, Cassiopeia, LOVES to play in boxes. A while ago she found the outside box that my Cricut came in. I lifted the lid and found a CriCAT instead of a CriCUT. :lmao: I used the instructions someone posted on the Cricut board to create the Bug using George. The tag is also from George. The title is Stamped. The brads I bought at the convention.

Before we went to WDW, I cut out a whole bunch of icons and tags. The autographed genie lamp and princess crown are from the Paper Dolls cart (the Dreams Come True cart hadn't been released yet). I carried it all around in a ziploc bag with Sharpies velcroed to the back of a small clipboard. I had plain tags, like the one Belle signed, for characters that I didn't have an icon for in my cartridges.
I'm glad you all like the borders.....they were fun to do. I flipped the teapot one so that the taller part of that border would be next to the tall part of the genie lamp border. Doing it backwards was a little bit of a challenge since I am WAY new to doing things like this, but it was a good learning experience. I am hoping to one day get good enough to participate in a swap:cutie: .

my Disney Autograph book (http://www.houseofpaper.com/custom/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=17147&sort=1&cat=500&page=1) and a couple of the interior pages (http://www.houseofpaper.com/custom/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=17165&sort=1&cat=500&page=1)
The first page of our album: 2007 Walt Disney World (http://www.houseofpaper.com/custom/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=17163&sort=1&cat=500&page=1)
and using my favorite PhotoPass picture: A Magical Meeting (http://www.houseofpaper.com/custom/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=17145&sort=1&cat=500&page=1)

So I have to ask you a question.
Your user name is macphrsn and your home town is about Henry Ford, hve you ever heard of MacPherson College in Kansas??? My dad lectures there about the restoration of Model T's and he works on Model T's for a living.
Is it just an odd coincidence or is there more to the story?
macphrsn
11-24-2007, 10:12 PM
Buffy,
The MacPherson (macphrsn) was my Labrador's name, which really comes from my family's clan (my Grandfather was from Scotland).
I grew up in Dearborn, Michigan and my Great, Great Uncle (Robert Rankin) and Aunt worked for Mr. & Mrs. Henry Ford. My GG Uncle was their chauffeur and lived at the HF Estate in a cottage. My GG Uncle and Aunt were at his bedside when Mr. Ford died. My dad grew up playing at the estate and fishing with the old man, who he later found out was Mr. Ford.
Most of my family worked or works for Ford Motor Company, including my DH and myself. I grew up with cars and just love owning many (9). My dad had a 1928 Tudor Model A from the time I was a baby until I was a teen, then we began collecting Mustangs. I worked for Saleen (like Saleen Mustangs) and was a part of the Ford GT build team.
We live in a car collectors meca, always something new and exciting roaming the streets. Don't forget the Woodward Dream Cruise, awesome event!
Coincidence, yes! Has your dad ever been to Dearborn to the Henry Ford Museum or the Automotive Hall of Fame (my Dad volunteers at the Hall of Fame). There are tours of the HF mansion, we just love the estate. I'll have to post my 3 pages I did on it.
That is so cool that your dad lectures on the Model T and restores them as well.
Thanks for asking!
Cindy

Yes, my dad has been to the Ford museum many times. In fact he restored an engine for them not long ago.
DH and I used to own a 1926 Fordor Model T and my dad currently owns 5 different Model T's now. I'll have to repost pics of the party we have here every fall. we also host a huge pre 1930 car show at Mystic Seaport, I do know that one of the guys from HF museum came out for the 100th anniversary of the Model T. We had a car from every year that Ford was in production before 1930. It was very cool!

Here are a couple of more that I finished today. I know I scraplifted the Al's Toy Barn idea, but I can't remember where I saw it so I can't give credit where it's due. I used SIX cartridges for this one:
-Topper letters, Mini Monograms
-Film strip and stars, Mickey and Friends
-Al's Toy Barn, Mickey Font
-the barn, My World
-spaceship and cowboy hat, Paper Dolls
-autographed tags, Jasmine (I think.....I took them pre-cut to WDW in August)
I'm not sure it shows in the photos, but the yellow paper is embossed with stars:).

Wow, nobody has ever asked to scraplift something of mine..........please, feel free!!!! The trees were cut from Paper Dolls (traditional tree), SYI (the green with red Stickles ornaments), and Christmas Cheer (all the other trees). I ran some of them through my Xyron and then used Martha Stewart glitter on them. The title is Mini Monograms.

These are great designs, you guys! I'm so inspired to get back to my scrapping. I was doing physical scrapping before and came up with a big disney book. But now I think I'm more into digital scrapping.
Just curious... some of the examples of y'all's work that you've shown. It's pretty obvious when a picture is taken of a scrapbooking page from an angle while it's laying on a table or something that it's a physical page. But these images that are dead on face forward and trimmed to just the page -- are those all digital scrapping? Or is there some way to tell?
I'm not saying either is better than the other or anything. I'm just trying to know which is which. Thanks!

Here is the album I made of Pickle the Koala from Hawaii visiting us here in Ohio. He had been on a cross-country trip with about five stops before us. Unfortunately, Pickles didn't make from our house to his next destination. He is lost in the postal system.
I made this scrapbook to help make up for the lost journal that was with him. It is fairly simple. But everything is double matted, as per swap directions. :rotfl:
On the last page, because you can't see what I wrote, I have that Pickles left here and went to Australia to see the homeland of his ancestors. He is planning on going walkabout along the songlines. He IS coming home, but the his owner may not recognize him as he will be all grown up then. I have someone from Australia sending the owner a new and little bit larger koala from there. It doesn't bring back the real Pickles, but maybe it will help heal the broken heart a little.

Hi Shauna,
I just have to ask.... I've seen it somewhere else (can't remember where) and it's driving me crazy. What's WPASADI?
It stands for "Wickedly Perfect Amazing Survivor Apprentice Disney Idol" or something close to that. It's a game they have had here on the DIS for the past few years. It starts out with teams who complete challenges. We had to do things like design a new Disney cruise ship, write a prequel to a Disney film, and design a new sister hotel to the Swan/Dolphin. Here's the website we created for our hotel: http://www.rockwall5.com/index2.htm
After passing through 6 rounds of team challanges, everyone left went to individual challenges were we had to write tabloid articles about cartoon characters, write a new scene set in the 70s for Carousel of Progress and create a mystery set on Disney property.
I made it through the 5 round of Individuals in the 2nd Round of Extreme WPASADI. I ended up winning an 80-gig Video Ipod. It was definitely fun but very hard work. The best part is that I had the chance to meet some great new people from my team and participate in a fun (and challenging) creative game.
I hope that gave you everything you needed to know. I can answer any other questions you have. :goodvibes

Shauna, I love it! Love what you did with the dates - may I scraplift? :)

I would be flattered to have you scraplift something I did. Honestly, the dates were not planned but you know what they say about necessity being the mother of invention. I didn't have enough room to spell the whole date out so I had the idea of laying the month/days over the year. I'm delighted with the result and thrilled that someone else likes it too! Thank you!

Shauna, I love the title. Is that all one thing or did you make it? If so, what is that gold paper, and where is the castle sticker from? Great page!

Hopemax made it. I received it in the special Hope-made group in the last Surprise swap. I requested it specifically in mind for that page and it turned out exactly how I envisioned it. It is totally paper-pieced. You can even tell that she cut the letters out by hand.
Thanks for the compliment but it should really go to Hope as she is the mucho talented one!

Does anyone have a layout of Pop Century? We stayed in the 50's section in June and I am having the hardest time trying to come up with ideas for it.

Thank you! Before our last vacation in September, I got several customized designs from the awesome folks over on the Disign board to use for personalized t-shirts. I printed them on iron on transfer paper to make t-shirts and printed them on cardstock for the scrapbook.
And yes, please scraplift away!:goodvibes

What system do you use for paper cutting? Like all the flowers in your layouts and the CROCs title? and how did you do the jungle cruise title?

All of those were done using my new best friend...The Cricut. :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc
All the flowers and lettering (both Crocs & Jungle Cruise) were from the George/Basic shapes cartridge that came with the machine.

Thanks again!
