Mary-Love seeing all your pages!! We don't only post Disney layouts here, anything is fun to see. You should post over on the Photography Board, you take great pictures. Maybe one of these trips I will learn to slow down and take pictures of my surroundings. I always miss getting shots of buildings and signs.

One question-how did you get Belle's autograph on the picture?

Thanks. I finally hooked up my external harddrive and dragged some trip pics back onto my computer so I could upload them. I've got a GF one posted on the Disney POTD thread. World Showcase at night will come tomorrow. Also posted one of my favorite tear jerker pics on the photography contest for this week. It won't win, but it makes me cry with happiness.

Trying to scrapbook today. Ryan is sick, again! Someone in this house has been sick for a month now. First me, then the boys, then DH, now Ryan, again. Nasty cough and fever.

I LOVE the Epcot layout!!! Other one is great too. Digital looks cool, but I have invested WAY too much in paper and embellishments to start now. I started scrapbooking when my kids were 8 and 10 so I just started buying everything I thought I would need to catch up, like 18 years worth of Christmas stuff, since I'm doing separate books for them. So it will be awhile before I jump into digital. Maybe if I branch out into other books, like our pets or something. Haven't bought anything for them yet.

Thank you!

Believe me, i understand about having money invested..I've been scrapping for 6 years now! lol.. However,i also like to think of it this way -- I am going to SAVE so much more money now! I will still use up all my fav embellishments, but i will also sell some stuff on ebay now, or donate some, or save it for my dd to use.. I am sure i will still paper scrap, but this is just a different kind of outlet. I am planning on doing my first "all digital" album after i get back from Disney HHI at the end of this month.. :thumbsup2

Yes. I 'm thinking that I'd be really open to it, after I've used everything I have. I wonder if it's faster than working with actual supplies or if it's about the same. Can you age the edges of your paper like I do with my Sepia pad? What about the raised aspect of heat embossing and using UTEE on the edges of blue paper to make it look like water droplets! I think I'd have to go into rehab!!!!!!!!!

jenr812
02-16-2007, 10:16 AM
Great LOs! Titles can be challenging. I love your third one and how linear it is. I thought to myself, "I like that LO - time to sketch it - but it needs a title" LOL One thing I'd do is maybe cut out 1" squares in either the green or red (or maybe black) and then put letter stickers or rubons on the squares to spell out something like BIG SMILE. I have used that on a few pages (just did one last night actually LOL) and then place the squares kind of helter skelter across the top. I will take a pic of what I mean and post it.

Anyway, I love how colorful your pages are! It helps when the subjects are adorable too ;)

I've looked through this entire thread, and love all the great pages. The digital pages are just beautiful, and I'm very intrigued by them. I'm new to scrapping, so haven't invested too much yet, mostly papers and stickers. I just figured out how to print journalling and words off my computer. Now I need to find different fonts. I'm not very computer literate. I'm going to post a few of my pages to share, if it works. I'm working on my first Disney album, and having loads of fun.

Wow...these pages are looking really good. I'm glad to see everyone was hard at work while I was at the World! We had a great time, even got to see a sneak peak of the Monsters Inc. show, sooo cute, and now have a ton more pictures for scrapbooking. Also, if anyone else is going soon, you MUST see the new Dream Along with Mickey show at the Magic Kingdom...they have new costumes where all of the characters mouths move, it is so neat! It looks like they are all talking to you, very cool! Well, now time to start scrapping...great work so far everyone! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the compliment. The little frames I picked up at Michaels and of course those glasses just followed me home from the Animal Kingdom. I kept all the glasses from the 3D shows. DH snipped the arms off and ground down where the arms were attached so they would lay flat.

We simply loved it. It has taken me this long to start because I had to just put my pics in order since I took over 700 pics and have to select the ones I really want to scrap so it will take me awhile but you will simply love it! Bon Voyage and have a great trip!;)

Journaling Reads: "We went over to Al’s toy barn and visited with Woody, Jessie, and the Green Army Man. Buzz was also there, but we had already seen him at the Magic Kingdom. Here is my first Digital layout. Everything was created by me, though I used several brushes to "Grunge" up the edges. The photos are from my trip to Antietam from June 2006. For anyone who doesn't know, the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862 is the bloodiest day in American history. More than 23,000 men were killed, wounded, or missing after one day of fighting amongst the corn fields of Sharpsburg, MD. I've been fascinated by the battle of Antietam since high school, have done a lot of research on it, and have gone to visit it twice. One of my favorite parts is "Old Simon," which is the name giving to the statue at the center of the Antietam National Cemetery. I can't explain it, but there is something about him that I absolutely love. For one I love the inscription on it, which I used on the page, because I think it sums up what happened there. I'm thinking I will do the Antietam book digitally since there are SOOOO many pictures that it would take forever to do as a paper scrapbook. I didn't use any embelishments because I didn't think they worked. Its not like a traditional scrapbook page, but I'm happy with it.

In a way I guess I've sort of done digital scrapbooking because its very similar to making desktop wallpapers, so it wasn't that difficult to create a digital scrapbook page. I've actually played around with some other pages for a few months now but haven't liked any of them.

I wanted to add to my previous post the text on the layout that is hard to read because I reduced the size of the image. Its part of a poem:

"The muffled drum’s sad roll has beat
The soldier’s last tattoo
No more on life’s parade shall meet
That brave and fallen few

On Fame’s Eternal Camping Ground
Their silent tents are spread.
And glory guards with solemn round
The bivouac of the dead."

The poem is actually on plaques around the cemetery. Gettysburg also uses this poem at their cemetery.

Here is another digital layout I did for the Maryland State Monument. Again from the Antietam National Battlefield. All photographs are my own and no kits or anything were used in creating the layout.

http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/MDState-SM.jpg

The text on it is: "Erected by the State of Maryland to her Sons, Who on this field offered their lives in maintenance of their Principles." This comes from the monument itself.

And just as a random fact the Maryland State Monument is the only monument at Antietam that is for both the Union and Confederate troops because as a border state, Maryland had troops fighting for both sides. It is one of my favorite monuments and the first time we visited in 2004 it was under repairs so I didn't get to get any photos of it. It truly is beautiful. I just read on their website that the MD monument is closed again because the roof is decaying from the elements. :( Its so sad to hear because it is a beautiful monument and a reason why we need to support our national parks and the work they do to preserve our past.

Now to purchase a 12 X 12 printer. Any suggestions?

I have the Epson photo 1280, it's their "older" model, but i got it at Staples with a rebate of 100.00, so it only cost me $300 - which if you think of it, you need to spend about $200 for a good photo printer anyway, so for an extra $100 i was able to get the 12x12. Not bad. And the pic quality is AMAZING. I truly love Epsons! :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2

Hi Caitsmama,

Your daughter is adorable. I really loved your pages, where did you get the crocheted flowers, they sure would make great accents. The Belle layout is perfect, so soft, what a princess!

I have basically taught myself thus far, I like how you tilted the photos and layers. I need to practice and keep playing. How did you learn to scrapbook digitally, classes, self taught?

Cindy, thank you for your kind word! I totally am self taught. The tutorials at www.scrapgirls.com , and www.scrapbook-elements.com really helped though.
I use PSE3.

As for the crochet flowers, you can get them here: http://www.polkadotpotato.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=46&products_id=767 They are only $3!
She also designs the kit i used on my other disney digi page that i posted on the digi page thread.. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=17517977#post17517977

Yeah, Mags is our old girl she will be 13 in July. It is so sad to watch them age, especially when she never wanted to stop playing or swimming. Now its a good day if she plays!

It was amazing that my lab made it to almost 15. He had hip problems that is what hurt him and he couldn't walk.

I have two more digital layouts to post.

20th NY Monument:

http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/20thNY-SM.jpg

I love the effect at the top of the flag draped over the monument. Whoever sculpted and designed the monument did an amazing job. I love the use of the black and white and color photography. As you can see, I like to keep it all very simple, because the photography is what should stand out.

The Irish Brigade:

http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/IrishBrigade-SM.jpg

Again, I love the black and white photo. I think this photo looks amazing in black and white. I love the stuble use of the green. This is another truly beautiful monument. It is actually the newest monument. There was a group of people who fought for years to get this monument made to honor the sacrifice of the Irish Brigade at "Bloody Lane." I'm glad they suceeded because the monument is beautiful.

Here is my newest creation. It is for the Philadelphia Brigade monument at Antietam.

http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/Philly-SM.jpg

I must be so weird, because each time I work on one of these pages I find myself with tears streaming down my face. :sad1: I never cry when I'm at the battlfield, but always looking at the pictures afterwards seems to make me cry. I just think of all the sacrifices all those brave men made fighting for their beliefs and to restore the Union. For instance the Philadelphia Brigade in the West Woods lost 545 men in under 10 minutes, many of the men unable to even fire their gun.

Part 1 of the Sunken Road (also known as "Bloody Lane")

http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/SunkenRd1-SM.jpg

This is my favorite part of the battlefield. When I was in school and learning about Antietam and "Bloody Lane" I never realized how the pictures of it never did it any justice. It was hard to imagine how so many men died here because the pictures never really showed how deep it is, how steep the sides are, etc. There are parts of it that are higher than my head. I have one picture where I'm on one side of the fence, with my sister in the middle of the lane and the other side is probably a good 2 feet above her head. There are also parts that are shallow. Walking behind the fences towards the lane there are dips and valleys and parts where you can't even see that there is a lane dividing the two sides. When we visited Antietam for the first time in 2004 it became so clear to me how and why there were so many casualties at this location. Walking through this area today leaves you with a strange sense of peace that is hard to explain. I had to look it up, but there were 5500 casualties during this phase of the battle, almost a quarter of all the casualties that day. After the battle some of the most iconic pictures taken by Alexander Gardner show how horrific the fighting in this location was. This was one of Gardner's photos:
http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/G-BloodyL2.jpg Be warned that the photo in the link may be graphic to some. Its hard to walk through the sunken road without thinking of that image, without thinking about all whose lives ended there and this thought seems to be the strongest walking through and along the Sunken road for me, more so than any where else. There is just a feeling of deep sadness here.

I also have put this on the list of places I'd like to take my children!! :) You should! It is a wonderful place to visit. You get plenty of exercise! ;) Especially if you are like my sister and I who stop a lot and get out and wonder around. There is just something about walking the land there that gives you a greater appreciation for what happened. The hike down to Burnside Bridge makes it very clear how just 400 soldiers could hold off a force far greater than their own because its very steep. Gettysburg is another really nice battlefield. I have some awesome pictures from there, but had already started doing that one the traditional way. We're actually going back to Gettysburg at the end of April. We only took pictures of 28% of the monuments last time (yes I'm anal and counted and figured this all out) so we need to improve those stats! ;) The goal is to see all the monuments. I have a list this time with locations for each. We will find them!

I've never been to those places, but, i think you take beautiful photos! Thank you. A lot of the monument pictures, though I haven't really used any of those yet, are actually taken from the car. ) My sister and I have gotten really good at "drive-by photography"!

Hey Yzerbear19,

Keep up the beautiful work! Thank you! And yes I guess I'm a Wings fan, though I haven't been the best fan this year. I don't think I've seen a single game from start to finish. I decided to do away with all superstitions this year, because they were terrible during the hockey season. I can't tell you how annoying I was during the 2002 playoffs with all the things I could and couldn't do. It just isn't the same without Stevie. :( Though I still like Zetterberg and Datsyuk. :) Z is a hottie! ;)

I've gone to twopeasinabucket before, but haven't ever posted. A bunch of us on another board I post on all members at scrapbook.com and I have my layouts posted there. For these digital ones I just go with whatever I feel is right for the pictures. No set layouts or anything. I also haven't really used any embellishments because they just don't seem "right" with the subject and pictures. I really want to show the photos. And there isn't a lot of text on them because there will be a whole page for each with the text about that part of the battle, etc. It was too hard to fit all the information and text onto my layout and have it look good.

I noticed that I've sort of done the layouts in reverse order of the way you actually tour the battlefield.

For anyone who wants more information on visiting Antietam, go to their site:
http://www.nps.gov/anti

I highly recommend going. Our national parks need our support. Antietam has done an amazing job perserving the battlefield to what it looked like in 1862, but there is still a lot of work to be done.

Yzerbear19,

I took a look at your pictures on your "vacation photos" site... WOW!!
They are beautiful!! :) My DS is actually going on a field trip to tour DC and Gettysburg this weekend... so I pointed out to him in your pictures what he will be seeing and he asked. "Mom do I need a list of pictures to take for my scrapbook".. I said well, honey yes you do..but you don't have enough time..so just take pictures of the monuments, bridges, cannons, landscape, and I definitely what to know HOW YOU FEEL for the journalling of your scrapbook.. My DD went on the DC/Gettysburg trip 2 years ago..and she still can tell me all of what she learned and how she wants to go back..

Can't wait to see you meet your goals w/ Gettysburg in April!!

I think we will be putting Antietam on the list for next summer's summer vacation.. I will definitely be visiting the link you provided.

Would love to see some of your photos of the sights you scrapped the traditional way!! These are very good!! :)

Call me a digital idiot;) but what do you do with the digital layouts? Do you print them out to put in an album, or do you keep your album online?! Or can you do either?!

Just curious! Those digital layouts are amazing, and are probably easier to do than the original way...?

Thanks!

Yes, you can print them out -- I have a 12x12" printer (but usally, i print them out in 8x8 format), or you can store your album online, or burn it to a CD or DVD. Either way! :thumbsup2

As for easier? I don't think so. It does take a big learning curve as anything does.. I honestly would say that paper scrappin in a sense is "easier" for a newbie, but, I guess digi is just "different".. that's all. :)

You can print out digital layouts yourself and put them in regular top loading scrapbooks or you can have them printed out by another company. There are several that do single pages or they now have photobooks that you can get printed too, which look like coffee table books. Once I have a whole book finished, that is what I plan to do, there are several companies that print these books too.

Yes, digital can be easier in some ways. If your files are well organized you and you have an idea in your head, you can get a LO done in just a few minutes. If you don't know what to use and are having trouble finding things, it will take longer. But there certainly is no mess to clean up off the table!

http://home.insightbb.com/~baity-scrapbook/niagara2006behind.jpg What is on the ledge of the cutout? It is looks kind of strange, almost like dog poo, but I'm sure thats not what it is.

It's rocks, sticks and other debris that came down from the upper levels of the falls. I don't think anyone wants to walk their dogs that close to the falls. :lmao:

I finished two more digital layouts:

Sunken Road, page 2:

http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/SunkenRd2-SM.jpg

The Cornfield

http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/Cornfield2-SM.jpg

This one is a bit different from the others, but I *LOVE* the bottom picture I used. We went in June so the corn wasn't very high, but when the battle took place in September it would have been as high as the men's heads, making it very difficult to see. This is actually where the battle started. If you look closely in both pictures you can see the NY State and Maryland Monuments. This entire page would be from the perspective of the Union army since the photos are facing the Dunker Church. There were an estimated 8500 casualties from this phase of the battle. The fighting here was absolutely horrorific.

This will be first post anywhere on these boards! But I have really enjoyed reviewing all 64 pages of this post. You are all very talented - and make me wish numerous times to be at home working on my books instead of being at work! I have printed out layouts to scraplift at a later date. Our family has never been on a Disney cruise - but I printed out pages just in case we do one day!

Yzerbear19 - your layouts are great. You have a great photographer's eye and an appreciation for history. I grew up in Va. Beach and went to Williamsburg quite a few times - and even went I went 5 years ago I read all the historical markers like I had never seen them before - so I have enjoyed reading all of your journaling.

Its actual quite the challenge to get some of the photos because you drive around the battlefield and are suppose to stop at certain "spots," but my sister and I would stop more frequently because we saw what could be an interesting photo. A lot of the time it involved pretty abrupt stops. ;) This is how we got the cornfield photos because there wasn't a tour stop there, but it was such a neat view. I think I actually got out of the car though for those. Some are taken from the car. The best truly are the ones the driver takes while driving! ;) :lmao: I truly believe we annoyed some of the cars behind us because we did stop so much, though it was worse at Gettysburg. That tour is suppose to take you 2-3 hours. We took 6 and started to rush a bit at the end. I started my Gettysburg scrapbook the traditional way, but stopped when I realized that we are missing quite a few pictures, which is why we have to go back in less than a month! ;) I will have to see if I can get some pictures of those layouts, though they don't have the journaling on them.

Some more! :)

Antietam Title Page

http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/TitlePage-SM.jpg

I really liked how the picture at the bottom of the Cornfield page turned out that I decided to use it again for the title page along with some lyrics from the Civil War Broadway musical. And some of you might actually recognize the lyrics. ;)

Cornfield Avenue Monuments: Confederate

http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/Cornfield-CSA-SM.jpg

Some interesting information about the monuments. Both Georgia and Texas used the same design of monument at Gettysburg. There are fewer Confederate monuments because most of the monuments were built and paid for by the states or regiments. After the war was over, there just wasn't money in the south for such things.

Another new digital layout. This is of the William McKinley monument. President McKinley served at Antietam as part of the 23rd OH Volunteer Infantry and brought "hot coffee" and "warm food" to the troops during the batle and had to pass under fire to do so. The monument was dedicated 2 years after he was assassinated.

He went to DC few weeks ago on a class trip and said he wanted to go back and tour Gettysburg and Williamsburg more.. as well as DC... so I offered up the idea of seeing area battlegrounds and He jumped at it! So next summer we are headed out for our adventure!!! ;)

I'm such a slacker because I haven't even started my pages for DC from June, though I have pictures, paper, and supplies. DC is such a fun place. I've been there twice now and STILL haven't seen everything. The Smithsonian museums alone could each take a week.

My sister and I are going back to Gettysburg in less than a month! I have my list of monuments I need photos of all set to go! I looked through the pages I had done of Gettysburg, but not sure I like them. I know I'm going to get different pictures and can't help but think that I might even get better ones. I'm torn. I think I might finish that book with the pictures I already have printed out then do this upcoming trip digitally since I love how the Antietam ones are turning out. I don't know though. AHHH. I had being torn and undecided.

Battlefields are completely addictive! Once you've gone to one, you want to see them all. There is just something special about them. I've totally turned my sister into a battlefield junkie! She wasn't too excited to go the first time, but loves them now. I think I've even managed to talk her into going to Shiloh and Vicksburg sometime. :)

Another digital layout. This one is pictures from the Observation Tower at the end of the sunken road. I have to give credit to my sister for all the pictures. I've never made it up to the top of the tower. I always chicken out part way up. I did make it higher this time than I did the first time, but not anywhere near the top. I love the pictures. I love how far you can see from the top of the tower. I love the mountains in the background. :)

I finally finished a few more digital layouts:

Dunker Church

http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/Dunker1-SM.jpg

The Dunker Church has become one of the most noted landmarks of the Antietam Battlefield. It played a pivotal role during the course of the battle. One of the most famous photographs taken after the battle by Gardner shows Confederate dead in front of the battered and beaten Dunker Church that somehow withstood the fierce shelling of the battle. The Union troops used it as a guide during the battle; it was their goal to reach this tiny house of worship. Afterwards it was used as a medical station. It is amazing that it withstood the battle. The original church was destroyed in 1921 by a violent storm. It was rebuilt and restored by the battles 100th anniversary in 1962. It was built on the original foundation and with as much original material as possible.

Visitor's Center (Part 1)

http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/Visitor1-SM.jpg

All the pictures in this layout and the next are taken from the observation deck at the Visitor's center where you begin your tour of the battlefield.

Visitor's Center (Part 2)

http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/Visitor2-SM.jpg

The quote used on this one is actually from the dedication ceremony for the 20th Maine Monument at Gettysburg, but its one of my favorite quotes and fits so perfectly. What Chamberlain said that day in Gettysburg is true for all the battlefields. I think it works here. The paper that the quote is on is from a kit I downloaded, but I can't recall from where. I will have to see if I can find that info.

Another digital layout:

http://members.aol.com/Yzerbear19/Scrapbook/Barton-SM.jpg

Clara Barton was called "The Angel of the Battlefield." She helped to tend the Union wounded. While tending to one soldier during the battle a bullet passed through her sleeve and killed the man she was tending, which is what the quote on the page is talking about. The brick in the cross is taken from the cimney in the house where she was born. The one photo is from the Library of Congress, which is the small text next to it.
