Thanks everyone!!!! :goodvibes

I did it in photoshop... you just make a duplicate layer of your picture, desaturate it, then put it under the orginial. now on the original one (color) you 'erase' the part that you don't want. Then to finish it off, I also blurred the black and white picture a bit as well to draw more attention to the color part. Hope this all makes sense :)

I'll add more pages in a couple days... :cool1:

That is AWESOME! I don't have Photoshop, but I can probably figure out how to do it in the program I use. How did you add Pluto's signature? Is it a graphic or font? And did you print it on the sheet, or print it and cut it out?

Hi everyone !!
I am a complete newbie to this board, amd I have to say I have beem absolutely blown away by some of the pages I have viewed you should all be very proud of yourselves.
I am very interested in scrapping and bought a starter kit from WDW last year,
I realise that a lot of what goes into producing such astounding work is a good sense of creative ideas but I was wondering were you get all the different font prints from. Like I said might be a completely daft question but I am a complete novice who wants to unleash all my ideas into a scrap book!

I am really interested in digital scrapbooking and have just signed up for an Adobe photoshop CS2 course - Would this benefit me in any way?

Thanx in advance for any advice you can give me :wave2:

Hi, I'm new to the board as well. I'm still figuring out the acronyms! ha ha.
But I have only been scrapping for about a year. BUT, I have been doing web pages and graphics for a long time, as a hobby. And yes, the fonts are great, and a Photoshop class will help you A LOT!!!!!! Photoshop is a VERY powerful program, but takes a while to learn to use some of the advanced features. But once you learn, you will be able to create some outstanding work. I have never learned to use Photoshop. But really want to. I use PhotoImpact. It's a lot less expensive and much easier to use. But, it is not nearly as robust as Photoshop.

As for the fonts. There are tons of free fonts on the Internet. That's where I get mine from. Just do a google or yahoo search on Free Fonts and tons of stuff will come up. Then, you just have to sift through them and find the ones you like. Once you download them, you'll need to make sure they are installed in your Font folder in Windows. Then any program you open, Word, Photoshop, what ever, the font will be there for you to use.
I made the below using only fonts I downloaded. One is Walt Disney Script and the other is Floralies.

I use this site a lot. But, you can also just search on Free Fonts in yahoo or google and TONS of sites come up. You just have to search through them and find what you like. You can also do a yahoo or google search on something like "Free Disney Font" and it will come up that way too, if you know the name of the specific font you are looking for.

I added Pluto's signature by scanning in the signature I got from him while I was there (he signed with a sharpie in an autograph book, and I scanned it in) Then just added it to my page and put a background glow on it to pop out. :thumbsup2

Hope that answered your question

I added Pluto's signature by scanning in the signature I got from him while I was there (he signed with a sharpie in an autograph book, and I scanned it in) Then just added it to my page and put a background glow on it to pop out.

I've been doing exactly this as well!

Some of the first pages I did were scrapping Princess/Mouse/Villian character meets that we did with my niece last year. It was her birthday, so there were many characters who wrote special messages, etc. So I got the autograph book, and have been color photocopying them with my scanner.

They look great! They even look better than in the autograph book, because the ones in those books tend to get marred by indentations from other signatures, or just being dragged around a park. It's still a great souvie, especially since you carried it with you the whole trip (I like to think the imperfections as character LOL). These look crisp and clear.

So far I've just been copying them out of the autograph book as I need them, but I'll have to give it back soon (and I'm making duplicates of all the scrap pages for a book for my niece for Xmas), so I'm going to scan them all in and save them for good. I've found a nice 5x7, the autograph (even blew a few up), and a few embellishments make a VERY lovely page! Especially when you can find character-specific paper/etc. (Can you tell I am addicted to Disney scrap stuff, LOL.)

I've started to suggest this when I see people spending time making beautiful, complex autograph books to take to the parks. Those are awesome, but a) you never know what characters you will actually see, and b) as much as I love "character" in items (i.e. little dents, etc. that give stuff history) I'd be too afraid of losing embellishments, etc. So I find the small Disney autograph books great for this. Plus you still have the "original".

I actually going to dig out my old autograph book from the 80's to bring on my next trip with me. It will be so much fun to compare character sigs from 1986 - 2006. I'm going to be so careful with that book, though - it's an artifact! ;)

:thumbsup2 NewEnglandDisney, those are just SPOOKTACULAR! Love them!

Where did you get those really cool background papers?

Thanks! SWSA is my favorite ride, and the Queen my favorite Disney character, so I had so much fun making it. I'm just learning scrapbooking so they aren't "professional" LOL, but I think they came out okay.

For the paper...the background on the lighter spiderwebs (the 2nd and 5th pages) is cardstock I found at my LSS. The webs photographed more defined than they are on the actual cardstock; on page two in real life they are more subtle.

The two pages with the brighter spider webs (four and five), the forrest (page one), and the "mirror" paper came from JoAnn's when they had that great 5/$1 sale. You can't tell from the pics, but the magic mirror is actually a "mirror" - you can see yourself in it. I wanted to get more detailed on the mirror itself, but my attempts came out poorly, and then I looked at the picture from the ride and the one that actually appears behind the queen is rather plain. This is one page I might re-do if I can get more creative - I even downloaded some line drawings of it from the Internet, but couldn't get it to work. I'm happy with how this one came out, though.

Thanks for looking at them!

Thanks! I was just looking at them and realized that you can see some pages from the book behind it...lest anyone think they are funky borders, I just wanted to point that out LOL. It's also funny what photographs well and what doesn't - for instance, the stickers with clear borders look transparent on the sheet, but they show up more in the pics. And a few of the imperfections are actually harder to see, LOL.

Not only am I learning scrapping, but now I'm learning how to photograph them hehe. I'm thinking for a big shoot I'd get the tripod out and turn it fully 90% and photograph them like they film animation.

LOL thanks for the vote of confidence :)

They were taken over many different rides through the attraction. On my solo trip in 2004 during MNSSHP I rode in the building totally alone (other cars were empty, no one in line) and got to take a ton of great pics with the flash.

Pooh is coming along now. I'm hoping I can keep it to 6 pages, but I have so many I want to use it may be 8...

DW and I are taking our Nephew, Niece, and 10 year old grandNephew to WDW in December, for their first WDW trip.

To build anticipation (as if they needed any more) we started sending them scrapbook pages of photo tours around the four parks and the resorts every couple weeks. I thought I would share some of the pages with the scrapbook community and the photo community on DisBoards, and see if anyone else does something like this.

I finally carved out a bit of time to catch up on this thread. Everything is great and so inspiring! Anyhow, Latharia, I really love how you put a title on EVERY page. I do my WDW albums sort of as a "book".... with mostly just a title on the opening page. They are in chronological order with journaling on every layout ( I work in 2 page L/O's). But sometimes the pages seem like a title would be nice.... but I have trouble coming up with a title for every page. Maybe I will "scraplift" a few of your titles. So simple, yet they say so much! Thanks so much for sharing!...............P

Great Cabo layouts. I love the Mickey heads with the brads - so easy and looks great!

Where did you get your Cabo, PV, and Maz diecuts? I looked at my LSS and they didn't have anything like it.

I am only on Monday of our Mexico trip. It goes so slowly, but it has been fun to "relive" the trip. :teeth:

Disney Day One: Monday, May 3, 2004

The Larson clan arrived at the Animal Kingdom soon after the park opened. The clan this day included Mom & Dad, Amy, Ben, & Ali, Kris, Nick, & Ben, Mindy, & Elizabeth & I. This was actually our second day in Orlando. Amy, Ali, Ben, Elizabeth, & I went to Sea World on May 2nd. We decided to do this because Kris and the boys weren’t arriving until Sunday night. Wally and Carl were both arriving on Tuesday night.

We were greeted outside the AK gate by many characters. My camera was in my car by the AC so when I first turned it on the lens were all fogged up. However, I didn’t want to miss out on the character greets so I took the pictures in the “fog.”

Breakfastosaurus

We decided to start our Disney week off by having a character breakfast at Animal Kingdom. Everyone had a great time eating our fill and visiting with the characters. None of the kids were the least bit frightened. We were one of the last seatings so we had plenty of time to meet and visit with the characters.

The Tree of Life

This piece of “artwork is so wondrous. I can spend hours just looking at it. Every time I do I see a new image. Even today as I printed and examined the pictures for this layout I saw new animals, like the jelly fish. I heard an interesting story about the creation of the tree. Originally there were 324 images on the tree. Jane Goodall was invited by Disney to visit their Animal Kingdom and, during her visit she was very impressed but noted one objection - that there were no chimpanzees on the tree. Imagineers went to work and not only added a chimp, they added Goodall's favorite, David Graybeard. They invited Goodall for another visit to Animal Kingdom and, as she walked to the entrance of It's Tough to be a Bug", there was handsome old David Graybeard. Goodall was pleased.

I got these done yesterday since we were trapped inside from the weather.

Sorry, these aren't very good pictures. I really need some advice on how to take good pictures of my pages. I've tried them in the sleeve, out of the sleeve, with flash and without, propped up and laying down, daytime and nighttime. All are bad so far. Help!!

Very nice :) How'd you do the lettering?

By accident I picked up what I thought was a pack of cardstock at Michaels and it turned out to be letters you punch out in all different fonts and colors and patterns. I've really ended up using them alot and really like them. I run them thru the little Xyron and make them stickers. On the Cabo ones I stuck them on cardstock and then cut around the letters.

Michele....the best way for me to take pics is I lay them on the floor next to a door that has natural light coming in. Usually around 2-3pm. Then I take the picture without a flash.(out of the sleeve)

Okay, ladies. I love looking at all your fantastic layouts, so I thought I'd contribute my favorite page as of late. This is my first attempt at posting, so please be kind. It was what they wrote our picture number on. A few years back they used to give you those really cool ones instead of just the white paper you get now. They gave out different ones at each ride, themed toward the ride. Im so disappointed they dont do it anymore.

Well, we haven't seen anything new here for a while, so I guess I should step up. I am still pretty new to the scrapbooking thing. I decided to start out by just scrapbooking our Disney trips. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v122/Yzerbear19/Tower2.jpg

This one is the opening page for the section on our visit to the Titanic Experience. I wanted it to look like the image from the movie poster. I made the ship out of cardstock then drew on the railings. I'm not the best artist. ;)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v122/Yzerbear19/Titanic.jpg

I really like this layout. It comes from my Chicago 2005 book. I used the brouchure we got from the Sears Tower for the one image. I think it turned out really neat.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v122/Yzerbear19/Sears.jpg

Also from my Chicago scrapbook is this two page layout for Wicked, which we saw in January 2006. I downloaded the pictures of Glinda and Elphaba from Chicago's website then printed it on my computer, so its the actual people we saw. :)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v122/Yzerbear19/Wicked1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v122/Yzerbear19/Wicked2.jpg

This one is from my favorite books, all about my friends. I was inspired by a song from Wicked, "For Good" which talks about how our friends have made us who we are. I was inspired to make a book all about how my friends have changed me and made me who I am. I picked 10 characteristics for each of them. My sister got 20 pages though. This is one of my favorite pages from that book, though I don't have the journaling done on it. The quote used is one of my favorite quotes of all time.

Here's a few more...I've been on a roll these last couple of days. Too bad I can't say I'm catching up....these are pages from our 2001 trip. I just started a Disney album.

I'm new to scrapping and I have been admiring everybody's handywork - your stuff is so great and I just hope I'm able to produce something half as good.

Michele, I would love to know, though, how you did the border on the first LO here - it's really effective :thumbsup2

Michele, I would love to know, though, how you did the border on the first LO here - it's really effective :thumbsup2 I'm not Michele, but it looks like she used a 12x12 sheet of the paper with the character's autographs, then layered a sheet of red cardstock/paper on top that she used decrotive scissors on to make the zig-zag pattern. Overall its a pretty cool effect.

Actually, it was even easier, Yzerbear19. I bought the red cardstock with that zigzag pattern already cut on the edges. Then put it on top of a 12 x 12 with the character signatures.

Thanks for the compliment!

Another great thing about that edged cardstock is I was able to cut out the center portion of the autographed paper that was hidden behind the red cardstock. Now I can use that autographed paper on other pagess too and not waste a whole sheet of it hidden in the back. Make sense?

I do that too when I double mat stuff!

I like your idea of using the solid cardstock over the sig paper. I have several sheets from our Mexico DCL cruise. It has "Castaway Cay" all over it, but we didn't go to Castaway Cay (wrong coast!) so I didn't know what to do with it. You have come up with a great solution.

Ppiglet...I love it. I'm trying to finish up my WDW trip from this year. Of course I don't work in 12 X 12 like most of you. I cheat and use a photo album and fill in the 4 X 6 holes. If you finished DCL 05..then I have some time to finish mine. I'm having a hard time finding different papers. Maybe I just have to let the companies come out with more papers.

For those of you who are wondering, the tag says:

We left the morning of the 28th of December at 2 in the morning! When we were packing, Molly decided that she wanted to go with us, and she hopped in the suitcase! Needless to say, she was not permitted to go and get the great big mouse!

It was a long long drive to the world, totaling 18 hours in all! We don't think we'll drive again, but the bonding experience we had will never be able to be replaced for all of the money and plane tickets in the world, and we don't regret for a moment sharing it with each other!

Baloosgirl23: Welcome to the Dis :) For page ideas, I used to agonize forever to make pages perfect. Still do this a lot, but I also get many ideas online (like this thread!), twopeasinabucket.com, creating keepsakes magazine, scrapbooks etc magazine, and I just got a Becky Higgins sketchbook from amazon.com - I LOOOVE it! I was hesitant to use paint, too, but once I tried it, I love it. I use the MM paints. I've used paint with foam stamps or to add color and dimension to my background paper. I've also painted around the outside of a picture. It appears that the "downtown" in Cindy's first page is painted with foam stamps, too.

I posted one in here a while back, but I'll post again because I am too lazy and short on time to go look :) Here are a couple examples of where I've used paints

Just the J is painted (foam stamp)
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b7df26b3127cce815f0089899f00000016108AbtWrJk5YtW

I used green paint for the title (Soccer) and the J in the journalling block (foam stamps and direct to paper, or in this case, picture, since I used a pic of grass to stamp the title on!)
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b7df26b3127cce815f01d5c95b00000016108AbtWrJk5YtW

Here is a Disney page. We rented a pontoon boat at POR. The yellow around the bottom right pic is painted on. I used a foam brush to brush yellow paint around the frame of the pic because I ran out of yellow cardstock, so I painted the white ;) I love the way the brush marks look on the edges of the photo. You can't see it too clearly in the pic though.

Yes, I used the Memory Maker foam stamps. Funny though, I actually stamped "Downtown" on my 12 X 12, but when I gazed at my completed work, I had actually grabbed the wrong stamp and spelled "Downtown" wrong, duh! So, I just grabbed a scrap piece of cardstock and re-stamped it again and stuck it on my paper. If you are not sure or worry about making an error, use a piece of cardstock not your 12 X 12. Just a tip! Good luck. :goodvibes

If you want to read the report that went along with this, it's here, at the DIS. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=979608

Hope it's okay that I posted so many in one day. Are we only to post Disney layouts here or any layouts we do. I have taken any pics of the ones I've scrapped this month.

You are so sweet. Thanks! Tinkerbell will be very busy when we get to Disney this year, so I'm pretty sure that she and the gang are going to be shipping a box to the boys, the day BEFORE we leave. I think she is going to have two big boxes inside that one. One labeled "For the drive" and the other labeled "In Florida". Each will contain more boxes. The ones for the drive might be labeled "For when you see the Louisiana/Texas border", then another for some city in Louisiana that we'll pass through, then the border at Missisippi, and Alabama, and Florida. It'll be worked out so that they are getting to open something every few hundred miles or so. To help keep them excited and hopefully make the drive fun. They will get things like new games for their DS's, Disney DVDs to watch, games, books, etc. They'll be getting Disney crocs, beach towels, pjs, t-shirts, hats, wallets with Disney dollars, etc. "In Florida" This way, Tink doesn't have to worry about getting around every night without them knowing she's there. It'll still give them the excitement in the morning, but life will be easier for Tink. That trip was very special. It was truly our first family vacation and I worked hard to make it perfect, but there was magic that happened that I had no control over, like Peter giving the boys some Tink tickets, instead of the tourguide and Ryan getting chosen for Temporary Ruler of the Realm and waking Tinkerbell, when we knew she'd barely gotten to sleep after leaving that morning's tickets.

I can hardly wait to see what this one brings.

Mary-Love seeing all your pages!! We don't only post Disney layouts here, anything is fun to see. You should post over on the Photography Board, you take great pictures. Maybe one of these trips I will learn to slow down and take pictures of my surroundings. I always miss getting shots of buildings and signs.

One question-how did you get Belle's autograph on the picture?

Thanks! Belle's autograph was one of the extra things offered if I ordered a picture from photopass. That was the only pic I purchased. Ryan was so completely embarassed by her kissing him on the cheek. His younger brother still teases him about it. I am trying to figure out how to get a note to Belle this next trip, to see if she can make him like her again. :rotfl2:

Thanks. Some were done by using sketches for inspiration. Either Becky Higgins or my own. I sketch layouts in magazines and then use them when I'm ready. Clara said one time to only sketch the things you really like from a layout. Maybe the whole thing or maybe just the tag. I love working from sketches. Actually taught an entire class on sketching layouts and creating a binder to use when inspiration is not coming so easy. Would love to hear any comments/criticisms, etc. you may have on particular layouts, when you have time.

Thanks. Couldn't figure out how else to scrapbook that many boys. LOL We had used wallet sizes for the spirit stick and at Walmart, you get two, so I had one of each left over and decided to scrap them all. We don't seem to be very good at cars and boats and such. My little one got 2nd place at last years Raingutter Regatta, but our cars just never do well. I think they need more graphite.

Mary ~ not only do you inspire wonderful layouts but you also inspire me to be a better person! I can't believe how much thought goes into making each day and vacation so special for your children. I know how long car rides can be, especially trips to the World (being from Ohio...lol) so it's amazing to me that you pay that much attention to making the trip so easy and fun!!! Bravo to you and thank you for the inspiration!!! ;)

Awe! You are so sweet! It's really purely selfish, though. I know that if I can keep some anticipation going and keep them constantly doing something different, they won't whine and fight so much. I don't really want to deal with meltdowns from the 5 year old or hearing the 7 year old saying "I'm bored!" And, some of it stems from me not having a very magical childhood. I'm living vicariously through my boys, doing things that I know I would have thoroughly loved as a little girl. I have almost as much fun planning and preparing as I do on the vacation. Kind of extends it for me. I get to enjoy it as I plan it, then enjoy it as it happens and then enjoy it as I scrapbook it. See! Purely selfish! :rotfl2:

Well, it's funny, actually. We went and were not going back. We were suppose to be going on our next vacation in February 08 and we were going to the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Giant Sequoia, whale watching, Disneyland for a couple of days, San Diego zoo, and Karchner caverns. 17 day road trip. All planned. Tickets are going to be like The Amazing Race. Boys have to read map and figure out where we are going based on clue in that days ticket. But, the whole time, I've been crying everytime I see a WDW commercial or tell someone about our trip. It's really pathetic. So, since my goal is for my boys to see the Top 10 National Parks for wildlife viewing and Everglades is one and we didn't get there the first time, it was a perfect excuse. Then, when I realized there was a shuttle launch, that was it. I've wanted to see a shuttle launch for almost 30 years. So, we are postponing the other trip and going back to Florida. I can now watch a WDW commercial and not break into tears. YEA! :cool1:

How awesome for you! I gotta dump this baby before I go back!! :lmao: We went twice last year and since finding out I was pregnant we were thinking we wouldn't go back til 08/09, unfortunately. Well now DH is really suffering from WDW withdrawal! :) He's been playing online at the Disney site pricing vacations and so forth. I originally didn't want to travel with an infant, but I might have to change my mind! Nothing is being officially planned, so it may not pan out... but when DH gets withdrawal, it usually ends up in a trip being planned. I just gotta be sneaky and keep Disney-ing our life with scrapbook pages and Disney stuff for the baby, etc. One trip was planned completely on the fact that he used my Mickey glassware at breakfast one morning!

Me: *sleeping*
Him: wake up, do you want to go to WDW in May?
Me: eh, we're going in January for our son's birthday.
Him: ya, we can do both!
Me: sure whatever, go away *rolls over back to sleep*

It was for a RnRC challenge on another forum and I made my very own elements for the first time. Very simple boring ones, but something nonetheless! These were made digitally.

Hey, your 02/08 vacation sounds like we have planned for this June - July. Leaving Michigan, Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Sequoia, San Francisco, drive the coast, LA, Hollywood maybe, visit family in Carlsbad, Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, Grand Caynon, Sedonia, St. Louis Arch, home.

Wondering what Karchner Caverns are. This trip is DD 8, DH and myself in a minivan. Hopefully we will all survive this trip. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That sounds like a lot of fun, but I wouldn't recommend going to LA/Hollywood with children. We went there before going to Disneyland in Feb. 06 and it was AWFUL!!! It just was not what I was expecting AT ALL. Just a thought, anyways, PPPiglet, your pages look really good. I agree too, your kitten is cute!

desiab - Awesome job on the photo coloring. It looks fabulous.

About my Valentine's LO, I intended the extra white space to be artistic. It was part of a challenge to have some white space, sometimes we are all just busy stuffing every corner of the page that we don't realize that nothing is sometimes better. :) It's something I never thought about until going digital, since pictures are much larger in paper layouts and tend to hog up most of the paper space, and I'm learning to try to do occasionally with my digital layouts.

Thank you for the compliments. :)

Mary those are so cool! Did you do those as a project or is that something you do often? Where do you get the larvae? My kids would LOVE that. The pages look great, too!

Thanks! Trying to keep the layouts kind of simple so the photos are not consumed by the layout.

We have raised butterflies in our living room for about 3-4 years, now. Started with a kit, then planted milkweed and brought the monarchs and raised the larva we found. Next year we began gathering the eggs and added Gulf Fritillaries and Black and Giant Swallowtails to the group. Last year we got our first Polydamas and Pipevines. Just raised 3 queens over the holidays, but the larva came from my MILs house. We have no butterflies flying here, right now. I'm so ready for Spring. Ordered more butterfly castles yesterday, so when they arrive, I'll be ready. We just keep an eye on the yard and when we find eggs or larva we bring them in and raise them. We release them in our yard once they emerge, hoping they'll mate and bring us more babies. It's pretty much an ongoing science experiment as well as a conservation project. We homeschool, the boys help me feed, clean, etc.

If you like those layouts with the butterflies, you might want to check out my layouts at www.photobucket.com. Search for album "tzuhouse" Those in the 12x12 disney sub album and 2007 layouts have already been posted here, but none from the other albums will be posted here, since they were done a while ago. I know there are a couple of butterfly layouts over there, but not sure which album they are in.

I use to take some albums to classes I taught and finally decided it was easier to just take pics of them and put them online. Sometimes students might not get done with their class project, so they could complete it at home by looking at a pic of the project.

I've got more butterfly pics to scrap. Went to the Texas Butterfly Festival in October. Have tons of pics to scrap from that. Looking forward to it.

Here are the Disney pages I've done so far. There are a few more, but they aren't quite done yet. And you will notice the some of the pictures or parts of them are blurry, thats intentional for privacy reasons. The lighting in the room where I took the pictures isn't the best, so some are a little darker than they are in real life.

Starting off with my favorite!!! :) Mulan!!! The flowers and letters for this layout were done with my new Cricut!!! :)

Lilo and Stitch. The picture of the second page of this one turned out blurry, but you can see the second page in the second picture which is the two pages together.

World Showcase. The only thing really missing from this one is some journaling/captioning, but I hadn't printed that off the computer yet. Other than that, its done.

Flame Tree BBQ This was the first page I did for my Disney book. I really like the colors in the paper that I used. This picture is dark, but you should be able to get the idea of the page.

Those are awesome! Love the color combinations you chose! Love that you have used the autographs on the pages. Did you just scan in the autographs and print on acid free paper? I'm going to have to scraplift the World Showcase one, for sure. Where did the flags come from that you have running across the top?

Thank you! For the autographs since my scanner is broken I took my autograph book and copied each page at work on the copier. Then cut them all done so I was able to fit four on a page and made a master copy for each so that I could copy them onto cardstock if needed, transperancies, etc for whatever the page needs. I think the ones in those are on Kodak matte photo paper that I copied at work. Some of them I shrunk down on the copier to fit the page.

For the World Showcase layout I had found this paper of world flags at the local scrapbook store. I had originally got it to cut the words out of, but that didn't turn out so great so I saved the remainder and decided to use it as a border. The paper used is World Traveler from Designs by Reminisce: http://www.designsbyreminisce.com/gallery_vacation.htm

Then on the bottom of those I typed up the names of the countries represented at World Showcase on the computer at work then pieced them together to create a string.

Like the layout. Is that digital scrapping? We haven't ridden Kali, yet. It was too cold when we were there, but definitely adding it to the trip for September.

Fran -- nice layout!!! :thumbsup2

Here's 2 lo's i just did today - Both are all digital. I am going to try to take advantage of www.scrapbookpictures.com 's sale on 12x12 lo printing this month -- i have a 12x12 printer, but for 2.00 each, it's worth having them do it for me.. then when i am done with my 2006 disney album, i am going to probably switch to landscape size..

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/sundries/minnieschaircopy.jpg
The above paper was bought by me today from scrapoutsidethebox.com , the kit name is Live out Loud.. i love the bright colors!!

The above paper and tag (the white one) was downloaded free from two peas in a bucket.

Ok, here's my last one for the night.. again, as like the others.. all digital!! (do you see a pattern here?? I am SOOOO lovin' the digital!)
Kit is called "refresh".

I also wanted to try to do a "see thru" black and white copy of the photo.. can you see it to the left?? This was my first attempt at doing this, and i really like the effect.. :)

Nice. Though if I could offer a suggestion. You might want to put a shadow on the words "Downtown Disney" because its difficult to read. Or change the color. Also the pink dot on your daughter's eye looks a little strange. Coll page though! :)

WOW I never knew digital scrapping looked so cool! I wouldn't even know where to start. Do the pages just look like a picture when you print them out? Do you not have all the "supplies" like print scrappers? I mean you don't need a whole entire room to store your stuff right?

the pages are really awesome!

Fran - I clicked & looked at your other pages too....

we're planning on going to Niagra this spring - I loved looking at your pages!

!

Well, i just discovered Digital -- so i already have a full room of traditional scrap supplies..LOL :lmao: The designers are so talented, that the pages look really nice when printed, just like you want to reach out and touch them.
Honestly, i think the main reasons i am loving digital - are:
1: No clean up!! LOL
2: you can pretty much do it when ever you want -- no effort , which makes it very relaxing - no draggin out supplies and hunting thru drawers for the right embellishments-- they are all on your computer!
3: It's quiet. I can do it at 11pm, without waking up anyone with an embossing gun, eyelet setter.. etc.. you get the pic!
4: (And my fav reason) - IT IS SOOOOOO MUCH CHEAPER!
You can buy kits for about $3-$15, with papers, matching embellishments, fibers, fonts..etc.. that all coordinate, and the best part is - you can reuse it all over and over again! No waste!
And, if you are anything like me, when i have a great "traditional" ebellishment, i seem like i am always waiting for the "right" page to use it on so i don't "waste" it -b/c they are so expensive! Well -- imagine being able to use your fav embellishment on as many pages as you want! It's wonderful. :thumbsup2

Oh and my other fav reason --- you can shop INSTANTLY.. lol.. I love instant gratification - you shop, and download right away -- no driving to the store for the perfect papers, or waiting for a shipment via mail!

That digital scrapping is very cool. I can certainly see the benefits of it, but what would I do with all my cardstock! I think I'd miss working with all the stuff. What I would like is to find someone that can scan in my Disney pages, convert them to 8x8 and print them for me so I could put them in the boys albums. I still haven't done albums for them for our first trip. Have one done, but need to add the pictures. Haven't even started the other one.

In addition to all of the above wonderful reasons, you can do things to your photos that you can never do on paper, like fade it a bit and use it as your background.

If you have an embellishment that you love but it's the wrong color for your layout, you can recolor it, no extra cost to buy the eyelet or ribbon in dozens of colors.

For me, one of the drawbacks of paper scrapping (besides the mess and trouble of getting stuff out) was the sheer amount of photos I wanted to put on a page, but they never fit and I didn't want to make 2 2-page layouts for the same thing. I hardly ever matted photos, so my layouts didn't look as good as they could, because I was busy stuffing so many photos on a page and you really can only put 3-4 on a paper page. And that doesn't leave much room for titles, journals and embellishments. I love digital because I can shrink and crop photos to just take the amount of room I wish to use. I can make a layout with a lot of photos this way, which can help me share my story.

In paper LOs I always did 2 page layouts and frequently ran out of room. In digital, I find myself doing mostly 1 page layouts and I can fit more on that one page then on 2 paper pages. I've also realized that I don't have to use "every" photo, so that helps too.

I never bought all the nifty tools for paper scrapping, I doubt I could ever justify to my DH spending a few hundred dollars on a cutting machine. I have thousands of digital kits and elements and most of them were free. I had trouble making calendar grids in Nov/Dec and I was making calendar gifts for Christmas, so I bought a grid set for 3.99 and then for my birthday I spent about $22 on digital kits, other then that my thousands of files have been free. There are so many beautiful kits for free out there. I don't plan to spend money too often, but I plan to occasionally buy a kit from the sites I download freebies, as a thank you for their free stuff. Other then the $26 I spent (no tax or shipping on these products too!) I had purchased a newer version of PSPX which I got at a extremely good price of about $30 after sales and rebates.

Especially with Disney pages, the embellishments are so cute and I loved buying the 3D stickers from Jolee's and they are not cheap. I would have easily spent that much on probably half of the amount of pages I have made digitally so far. I have a big stash of unopened Jolee's items that I just found that I am thinking of taking back to the store. I have scanned in several Disney stickers and plan to scan in papers (they are 12x12 so stitching them together scares me!), and I can use them on my digital pages as well. Unlike the Jolee's, I plan to give the nice Disney stickers to my son as rewards for whatever I might reward him with, he loves playing with stickers.

As far as souvenir type things like autographs and plane tickets and receipts and other little things you get at the parks, they scan in well too! My son took a toddler tumbling class last year and at the end of each session they give out ribbons, I scanned them in and used them on my digital page and the looked great. (below)

I can't rave about digital enough! I absolutely love it. My digital pages are much nicer then my paper ones were, partly due to laziness and wanting to get done quick and also due to lack of tools. After my Jan 06 WDW trip, I started to scrap it, got uninspired and stopped after completing about 5 pages of the trip, which was very disappointing, since it was my son's 3rd birthday trip. Later in the year, late summer I think a friend told me about digital scrapping. I poohpooh'ed it saying I had so much paper stuff and blah blah. But after a month or two, I finally tried it. Did some Google searches for sites and tried it myself. It was the ease and convenience that really sold me! I don't think I'll ever go back. I am seriously considering selling all my stuff on ebay, except for plain cardstock which I can use to print on or for cards, etc. With a baby on the way, we really need to get rid of a lot of our stuff, and that would certainly help the cause! :rotfl2:

How do you keep the papers and such accessible and remember what they look like? Especially if you have tons of kits like the previous poster? It isn't like you can just finger through your papers til you see one you like! Thanks :)

im alittle confused about the digital scrappin..... do you print the pages out and put them into a book.... you probably need an expensive printer to make it look clear??? do they go into a regular 12x12 book????

Fran98765

Organization: different people organize in different ways. I have all my backgrounds together but separated into different directories by color, so if I want a blue background, I go to my Background > Blue folder and use the thumbnails and find something I want quickly. My embellishments are in an embellishment directory and then sorted into things like tags, ribbons, etc. Others sort differently, ie by designer or kit.

Printing: There are many websites that offer printing, a very popular choice if you have one near you is Costco, they print 12x18, so you can print a 12x12 and then 2 6x6 on the same page and it is very cheap, under $2/page. Then you trim it and put into a regular scrapbook. Some people add real embellishments as well or something like park souvenirs. There are dozens of sites that print pages for you, cost and quality can differ. sbtoshare.com is another popular choice with good quality.

Some people bought 12x12 printers, they cost $400-$500. Another very popular choice is to create at 12x12 and then print at 8x8 on a regular sized printer.

There are sites like mypublisher.com and heritagemakers.com and shutterfly.com that print coffee table books as well. You upload your images, which are your sb pages and then they print them in a hard bound book.

You can also print at local print shops, kinkos or staples. I made calendars for gifts for Christmas and had them printed at staples. They turned out beautifully, but they had hidden costs, and we didn't know until I picked up my calendars, which angered me, so I don't think I'll use them again.

And to add to Fran - I got my 12x12" Epson printer with a nice rebate from Staples -- with the rebate it was only 299.99.. And the quality is great. However, let me say that i also love to scrap 8x11 or 11x8, which you can just print out on any good photo printer. However, to finish up my disney album, i am going to try to get them printed on line, with a sale.. so they will be about 2.50 each.. But, i only have to print like 10 layouts.

As for what Fran said -- it's true. I have downloaded so many free kits - but unlike her, i have already spent about $30 LOL, however, for $30, i have gotten way more than i would have in a traditional scrapbook store!! And i am somewhat a shopaholic, lol. I am letting myself buy one new kit a week now. (Hey, 6.00 a week ain't bad!) LOL Although, i might use some tax money and buy a bunch i have my eyes on! LOL

Now.............. why won't they come out with a 12x12 scanner!!??

The digital scrapbooking pages are neat because you can do more with the photos, but my poor little computer at home doesn't like the digital scrapbooking. ;) I need more room on my hard drive. A lot of the kits are very large in size. I'm going to scrapbook our September 2006 Chicago trip digitally, but just haven't gotten around to finishing it. I did one page that turned out really cool, but haven't really had time to work on the rest. Its nice that you don't have the actual stuff cluttering up everything, but the large size of the files really clutters up my computer.

Fran98765
02-08-2007, 05:53 PM
One more thing about organization, several people I know take the contact sheets that come with many kits (small pics of all the kit pieces on one page) and print those at a draft quality, so they can look at the things they have too to help decide what to use.

And a 12x12 scanner would be heavenly!

so after reading all your raves about digital i have decide to give it a try, i checked some sites and got some basci ideas on how to start. i currently have in my computer the following programs : microsoft Picture It, Microsoft digital image editor, and i have the trial version of corel Paint shop pro XI,
now will ANY of these be useful? or do i need to purchase another type of software to be able to do the digital LO?

any help is so welcomed seeing that i have no clue how to do this. I also looked at the tutorial on two peas in a pod but some of the things make no sense to me ( mind you i just started editing with corel so i am not all that familiar with all its tools) like when it says to use your loop tool??? :confused3
please anyone guide me!!!! i need serious help! i have a ostco near me me so printing isn't an issue, i need to be able to make the pages first:rotfl: also i know this is getting ahead of myself but once i do a page do i save it on a disc to be able to take it to cotsco? or do they have a website to upload to like snapfish w/ in store pick-up?

sorry to sound so naive but i am really interested and really clueless:sad1:

thanks!

Viv - i would check the scrapbook forum for the digital threads.. or post a new thread over here.. just to not hijack this thread, and i can help somewhat..lol.. I would suggest downloading a trial of PSE (photoshop elements) that is a very popular program due to effectiveness and cost. You can get it at www.adobe.com .
Again, definatley start a new thread in this forum, so we can keep the "digi chat" there.. ;)
