View Full Version : Scrapping Game...

we haven't done one of these in a while -
and it doesn't look there are any great new products or sales to talk about -
so why not play a game -
maybe someone (um me) can learn somethin gnew -

Here it is
LOVE IT, HATE IT, or WHAT IS IT? (which would require further explination by op)

so I will start by posting a product, technique, or something scrap related and the next person will state if they love it, hate it, or don't know what it is!
then name another "thing" for the next person to post about...

If someone doesn't know what something is please try to put something in about what it is in the next post !

Prima flowers - beautiful flower embellishments made from mulberry paper. They come in a wide variety of colors. They originally came in cute milk bottles. Now they come several different ways. Becoming a new addiction of mine. I tried to just let my two bottles get me by. I gotta have more!

Paper bag albums - LOVE IT!

Sorry, the wizard is a die cutting machine. You can use the dies from it's own company- Spellbinders, or sizzix, sizzlets, quickcuts, accucuts. It embosses too (most of the spellbinders dies cut the image and then with a different set of plates or pads embosses the same design). You can use any brass stencil to emboss. Apparently you can set eyelets and squash bottlecaps too, but I have to get a steel plate from the hardware store, so I haven't tried that yet. I really love it so far.

Yep it is me that has the wizzard! Love it. It is a cutting system that embosses, cuts and can use all the dies out there!

Embossing paste! Love it....
I have transulcent and white

You take a template/brass stencils, which I have a ton!
Then tape it down. you then can
1. Just put the past over it with a artist knife so it fills in all the holes on the template. Remove excess and make smooth. Remove template let dry. While wet you can sprinkle glitter on it. Once dry you can chalk it or ink it. Just put the template back on.
2. Using the translucent paste, ink or chalk or markers inside the template. Then let dry if needed. Then pull the translucent paste over Let dry and it comes up very shiney!

Just a fun way to use brass templates....

So onto the game

Glue dots YEP Love them they are a necessity

Mulberry paper is one of the handmade papers. It tears nicely & makes a very nice effect. It's not cardstock - it tends to be more on the thin side. Even the heavier stuff I can see through if I hold it up to the light.

I have some slide mounts, but haven't actually used them yet. I like the look enough to have gotten the Sizzix slide mount die though. LOL

I haven't gotten the multipurpose tool & clips yet, but plan to do so soon. A friend showed me a better way to use the Titletopia Tool. She used those clips to hold down the Titletopia right where I wanted the title. It was much easier to get the alpha stickers on the paper that way. (I'm such a dope I was putting the stickers directly on the Titletopia & then transferring them to the paper.) :rolleyes1:

I've seen Perfect Layers but not used it/them. ETA: Oops! Took too long to answer. I love fibers, but some I've seen recently are too fat...don't like those. Is this a brand name - or just a type?

The CM Journaltopia is a straight edge with a series of plastic loops (sort of like fishing line) on one side that you use to write in a straight line without drawing on your paper. The loops kind of squish down when you write letters with "tails" - like g, p, q... I'd really like to hear if anyone really likes theirs. (I'll tell you why later.)

I use archival mist on newspaper clippings that I want to preserve. It is a spray for paper. I imagine it is for other items, too, but I don;t havethe box in front of me.

I liked my CM personal trimmer, but I found I also needed a 12" trimmer. I found a very goodone at my local photography store (which is now also into sb!). So,

I've not been impresses with the ones I've used - CM & Fiskars. I had gotten a Fiskars 12" rotary trimmer several years ago before I started scrapping & had gotten used to that. Although it's big & clunky I much prefer it to the smaller ones...mainly because of the ruling on the small ones.

Scrapbook alive sound recorders??

piratesmate
11-13-2005, 08:33 AM
To whoever said that using the Coluzzle looked hard, it did take some getting used to. The first few I did I wasn't happy with the way I had cut them out at the end. However, I really like them! The learning curve was easier than the CM cutting system was - for me at least. I was told that the biggest mistake people make is that they fail to remove the plastic film from both sides of the template. Evidently it makes it harder to cut with the film still on.

Patty - I think you'll love the tweezers & wonder what you ever did without them, but be sure you keep them up away from your little ones. The tip is very sharp! I even use them to pick up single pieces of the CM tape runner adhesive to put in tight spots.

OK - back to the game...

Scrapbook alive sound recorders - I haven't used any, but I love the concept!! I am so sad that I didn't record my kids when they were small. :( I have one short bit on a cassette of DS singing "Blue Moon" when he was 2...it's priceless. Journaltopia - Well, every time I've tried to use it I get "fly dirt" on the page. I mean the ink seems to "hang" on the loops & when I pick up the tool the ink then transfers to the paper. I hate the way that looks! I tried asking my CMC if anyone else had that problem, but she'd never heard of it. She used my tool & didn't have the same problem, but watched me do it & couldn't see that I was doing something wrong. (I was using a CM pen BTW.)

This may sound stupid, but I wonder if it has to do with being left-handed. :confused3 I have problems with ballpoint pens leaving blobs on the paper. I don't hook my hand when I write & fibers from the paper seem to build up around the ball. After a while they become dislodged & leave an inky blob on the paper. I wouldn't think that a felt tip marker would cause a problem like that, but it's the only thing I can think of. :confused3

About the Paddle Punches - I think a man wrote the instructions on how to use them. :rolleyes1 Seriously, it says to give them a couple moderate taps (or something along those lines) but I have to hit it harder than eyelets in order to get the things to punch! They work well once I stopped worrying about hitting them too hard. It's a good thing they were cheap though. I don't know how often I'll use them. :ssst: Don't tell DH please! :rotfl2:

CM snap packs - I don't like them. They're expensive, they have things I never use (like triangle pieces), .... I can't think of the other reasons right now. :confused3 I like the stickers in the Disney pack, but I'd rather just buy them separately. Oh - I know another reason...in the Disney pack all the shaped borders are yellow! I like to vary things more than that.

Jolee's

Are you going to believe me if I tell you that I am left-handed? How interesting that you would have that problem. I don't at all.

Those paddle punches are the pits. There isn't one thing I like about them. I think mine are going to hit ebay one of these days.

I love drywall tape!
I just used it on the christmas swap - lol
it is a lot cheaper than rolls of magic mesh and does the same thing - and you can even color it any way you like!

Chipboard letters can be bought or you can take the cardboard from the back of a pad of paper and cut out letters with a sizzix and decorate them - love them too

I have a ton of stencils -
and I don' relaly use them anymore - but i might if I get some of that stuff Spinning was talking about - molding paste or whatever - lol

Washers can just provide another hard visual element - you can rub letters on them - tie a ribbon through them... whatever you think of!
I have only used them once or twice - but I haven't done the new hosue album yet - so I might need them for that!

Vellum - love it! (But I'm afraid to use it now that we've had the LaserJet/photo discussion & I've seen they actually sell Vellum for laser printers. :()

I had no idea that you didn't use Magic Mesh on the Christmas swap Patty! I love it! I keep looking at the "mesh" when I place orders online, but don't like the price. LOL But when Maggie said "drywall tape" I was thinking of the stuff that looks like paper that we used to use with spackle to seal to pieces of drywall. :confused3 Have they changed it? I guess it's been a while since I've done any work on the house. LOL What did you use to color it? I'm excited about this now!

Acrylic paint, I can't live without it! I use it to paint everything, chipboard, metals, paper, drywall tape ;) , and cardstock. You can use it to edge photos or mats, stamp with it, just about anything you can do with ink you can do with acrylic paint.

just have to comment on perfect layers!
Love it! It is one of my most used tools! I found using a larger handle exacto (big red handle) helps!
But it makes the best matts ever!
Embossing anther one of my favorites! I think I did mention it awhile back! I love the look!

lets see what else:
water color pencils? I have them, never used them!

pppiglet
11-19-2005, 02:59 PM
Water color pencils....never used

How about decorative scissors! I have a few, but for some reason, never use them!

piratesmate
11-19-2005, 03:19 PM
I'm a sucker for those decorative scissors, but rarely use them - even my Mickey ones! :( It seems every time I have the perfect place to use a particular pair then don't make a "clean cut". Cutting tin foil helps, but not enough. Are you not supposed to use them on card stock?

And while I love the water color pencils (I've used them for years) I've never used them in my scrapping. :confused3 I just never thought about it...I'll have to find a place to use them now though. They're much nicer than just colored pencils & even markers, because you can get the "filled in" look more easily once you add the water. You can also do shading with them that is harder or impossible to do with markers or plain pencils. ::yes::
