Planning an impromptu trip to DL for DH's birthday/ spring break. Have never been and sadly the only guide book I have for DL is from the year 2002. Besides all the character meals we want to do (we have 3 small DDs), the one that looked the most fun to me was the Soap Opera restaurant in DCA. Is that still open? I like fun places to eat. If it's closed, any more suggestions? Thanks!

Sorry to say that it is no longer there. Instead, it's Playhouse Disney Live On Stage.

Yes, that place is closed. It became the stage for the Playhouse Disney Live Show.

If you have an old guidebook, you may not know that the Avalon (formerly wolfgang puck) became Ariels Grotto Character Dining. A good choice, in my opinion.

The vineyard is also quite good (especially the lunch foccacia sandwiches).

I am a fan of (counter Service) taste pilots grill. If you are getting kids meals, there is popcorn chicken served with happy potatoes (fried round potato slices, with happy faces imprinted in them...I'm 25 and I Love them!) :)

Are you only going to DCA? Interested in Hotel Dining? Looking for Table Service, or Counter Service?

I can suggest more, if i know what you're looking for.

-Tina.

I am looking at 4 days/ 3 nights with the kids (their first trip to Disney anything!). We'll be at both DL and DCA and must go to DT Disney also. I would like to do all 5 character meals (is this overkill?) since I don't know when we'll make it back to California. Ideally, we'd love to stay at GC for the convience but $$ may be an issue (I'm still waiting on my TA quote). Can anyone recommend a more affordable place to stay that is still pretty close by. We are renting a car but will have a one year old in tow...
Thanks for the offer of help Tina!

You should get a new 2006 guide book, since it is full of information from 2001, it is very outdated. It is well worth the $15 for a updated book with (mostly) current information.

From what I have read by the time the book hits the shelf in August - October of the year prior to the the edition year, the information is already about 6 months old.

I am glad to hear about someone else intending doing all 5 character meals, I intend doing this when I go there next Easter just me and dd, because I can't choose between them, they all sound great
