I know exactly what you are saying. All the joy and excitement of the last 10 months has gone from this trip. I'm almost dreading it. My two sons, 12 and 8, started crying when they thought we might postpone it. We are still going...but it won't be the same. One week till we leave.

I feel robbed too.

We have been palnning for sooo long and now I dont even want to think about because who knows what will happen in the next 3 weeks.
We are still planning on going (we will drive if we have to), but I dont feel as excited as I was.

my husband says we are going. we leave in 13 days, but I am afraid. He doesn't understand why and says we must do as the president asks and resume our lives. But some of the magic is gone for me. And the flight is terrifying to me.

Disnee Dad says...................... I never thought I would say this but you women need to listen to your husbands. Go on your trips and have a good time. In fact spend a little extra money to keep our economy going, and this comes from a tight wad(except for Disney)! I'm not sure what I will buy, but I am going to buy a TV or VCR or video camara, or new furniture, just to help our economy. The only way for the average Joe to combat terrorism is to not let it affect your life. I would much rather die on a plane than cower in a closet and not go anywhere. As most of the husbands will agree, if you want some come get some. Well they got some and now they will get some!

My DH and I were trying to put a finger on the emotion (or lack of emotion) we've been feeling about our upcoming trip to WDW in 11 days, and it finally struck us --- we feel GUILTY !! How can we be planning such a happy time with our family when there are so many families torn apart ?!? But, as adults, we can feel like this --- our kids (8,7,and3) are innocent, and they deserve a wonderful vacation. I love planning a trip to WDW - it's a big part of the "fun" of the trip. That part has been taken away from me, but my DH and I will do our best to not let the recent events put a damper on our actual trip to WDW. We can start worrying again after we retun home !!! We will not let our kids be robbed of the Disney Magic !!!!!!!!!

I too feel robbed...I am so angry someone did this to our country. We were so excited before everything was DISNEY now we can't even hardly talk about it.
Luckily my 5 yr old didn't know exactly when we are leaving, we've decided to go as schedule unless something else should happen- before next Saturday. We always go to the Disney Store the weekend before and make a day of it at the mall buying our tickets, this year my husband will just pick them up on his way home from work Thurs.
We feel scared, guilty, selfish, disappointment....so many emotions you don't know how you feel. Most of all I feel mad it happened and ROBBED as you say.

We were going in 3 days, flying out of Boston on UsAir but have decided not to go as UsAir has given us the option of a full refund. Logan Airport in Boston is only operating a few flights at last glance and my husband and I have decided not to try and reschedule even after planning for 10 months and the great rate of $169 per night at the Poly. After things calm down (hopefully) in a few months , we will try and plan another trip.

We were at Disney last week, and just returned home yesterday. We were in Magic Kingdom with our 3 year old grandaughter when the parks were closed. She was having such a wonderful time and it was so hard to tell her we had to leave. She cried the whole way out because she wanted to see Mickey and had been talking about it for months. Of course, she is too small to understand.

We stayed for the rest of the week and went to Animal Kingdom on Wedensday and MGM on Thursday, but it just wasn't the same. It was very depressing and hard to enjoy ourselves when everything was so uncertain. Disney handled everything very well, but the vacation was really over on Tuesday.

Yes, I most certainly felt robbed. Everything happened the morning we checked out. Instead of leaving with that feeling of being slightly bummed which I call Disney withdrawl (but happy with those Disney memories), I left TOTALLY depressed, not to mention shocked. Like everyone else I will never forget where I was when it all happened... I was at WDW. So, we've already made our ressies for our next trip so that next time we'll just leave with the regular Disney withdrawl, but happy memories.

I can understand where we all are coming from. The mixed emotions are too much too grasp. Just wanted to share on an experience we had a few years ago.... On our last trip to WDW, which we always encounter with my in-laws (they're fantastic), was planned and booked for quit a while. Little did we know what was to come. Two months before our vacation my dear father passed away unexpected, my husbands grandmother (god bless her dear soul, what a wonderful woman) weeks later. We proceeded with our vacation plans, thinking this is what we all need. The day we left was sunny and clear and as the plane just got above the white, fluffy clouds my 7 year old son turned to me and said "Is this where Grandpa and Grandma are?" My heart dropped, all i could say was "Yeah, this is it!" When i think about the innocence of our children and their excitement, how can we as parents show them fear by intimidation. I believe in every individuals opinions and choices and just hope that anyone that has a vacation planned, a time to share with their families, a time to laugh and a time to smile, enjoys the precious time they have. As for me, when the plane I'm on on Sept 22, gets just above those white fluffy clouds I will think about all of the victims and their families and pray for a better tomorrow.

I have three happy, healthy children. We're going to Disney World in a little over a week. I haven't been able to enjoy the planning as much as I would have, but no, I don't feel robbed. I feel blessed.

You said it Barb!!! I am thankful I have my family....now I even feel worse for feeling bad about not feeling excited about our vacation. Got to keep things in prospective. I am truly blessed and will continue to thank God and pray for the less fortunate.

I told my DH about an hour ago that I feel really guilty about going. There are so many people who have lost so much that I just cannot get excited about our Oct/Nov trip. We are flying (usually drive) and I was really excited about it and now the the thought of being on a plane just terrifies me!

I think it's really normal to feel weird planning a trip...after all, it's the happiest place on earth. One day we'll all be able to look forward to happy times again, we just need our deep wounds to heal.

I would recommed to all to continue with your trips as planned..... I was in Disney when the disasters took place. We did not let anyone take away our right to what deserved... and that was to enjoy our much needed vacation. If everyone cancelled their plans then our economy would be hurt even more. I never felt in harms way while at disney. They added extra security... including bag checks at the gates. I was also faced with flying home on United.... I got on that plane. I knew that this was probably the safest time to fly... with all the added security. We did not suffer unnecessary delays at the airport. I urge all Americans to continue with their plans to travel to disney. Once you step through the gate it is a "whole new world"!!!!!!!!!! You will not forget.... but it might help in healing.

Opps.... I also wanted to add.... that thought it all ( the tragedy of the Nation and the tropical storm) We had the greatest time!!!! We did not let anything get us down or stop us. When it rained, we put on our ponchos. We did not forget... but we also did not let anything or anyone take away the magical moments we dreamed of. Again, I will say, I always felt safe at Disney. Even on the day the parks closed... there was control, calm and friendly glances.

We are still going. Unless the airline cancels our flight we will be flying otherwise we will drive but we will be there and we will have a good time (and I will deal with the guilt).

We are travelling from the UK in 3 days time, our 2 daughters have no idea that we are going (original trip planned for 09/13 got postponed) I cant wait to see their faces when we tell them that Mickey is ready and waiting for us!!!!!!! We are very excited and not at all nervous. What will be will be..... Safe journey to everyone.

I had just the opposite reaction- last week I got on the phone and scheduled a surprise trip to WDW for this weekend. My wife, especially, needs something wonderful to take her mind off of things. There's no better place to take your mind off of the "real" world, and I can't think of a time when we've needed to forget the real world so much.

We were also at Disney with our three children when the WTC tragedy occurred. It was difficult not to be in our own home security at this very difficult time. We did go back to the parks on Wednesday for the sack of our young children. But, Kate099, you are correct - it was difficult & "the vacation was truly over."

For people that have plans to go in the near future - GO!!!!!!!!! The airplanes are much more secure. You deserve this trip because you worked hard, planned long and sacrifaced somewhere to be able to go. Take your children & enjoy your family memories that you are creating.

God bless America & everyone!!

I understand that we shouldn't give in to the terror and most of us planning a trip have the guilt of going away to the "happiest place on earth" For me it's so scary. I am taking my three children and my husband on a plane to an airport not thirty miles from the site of the twin towers. It is going to be really hard. I know I will do it for my children who at 7,3 and 2 who truly can't understand. As I leave from NEW York's Laguardia airport my heart will be in my throat and my mind on the many souls who went to work and never came home. I hope God will be with us and with all American's.

Mouse- The fact is, though, that you are in much more danger driving to the airport than you are flying out of it.

(My wife is from East Setauket- love the seafood in your area!)

THEMOUSE, we're just back from WDW. While we were there we talked to three different families from the NYC area. They all said the NY airports are still ghost towns (some came from JFK and some from Newark.) BWI was not a ghost town. BTW, they were all glad they came.
