Airport Hotel?

We'll be arriving late (10PM) into MCO, and instead of checking into the BoardWalk, we're thinking about staying at a hotel near MCO. We are 4 adults, but could probably just stay in one room (2 double or queen beds + maybe a rollaway). We are looking for someplace clean, a decent room, and something inexpensive (around $60-$90). I know there is the Hyatt, but it is pretty expensive right now.

Based on Travelocity reviews, La Quinta looks like a good bet for the money. Avoid the Clarion Conference Center at all costs, we stayed there for 1 night and the room was old-smelling and dirty, the "free full breakfast" was toaster waffles and cereal, and the desk clerk was rude.

I really love the Country Inn & Suites near the airport ~ great breakfast!

You can usually get a 3* hotel with Priceline for $40-$50. Some of the lower rated hotel don't offer a 24 hour shuttle and a $10 cab ride will wipe out your savings. The La Quinta shuttle stops at 11:00 for example. Alternatively you could use Hotwire and select a suite hotel. I'd go with Priceline.

Bid low and increase your bid each time adding a zone that only offers hotels lower than 3*. It's called a "free re-bid".

We could pick up our rental car the night that we arrive, I'm really not worried about paying the extra day ($30) for it if we need to (that'll just mean we can hit the road the next morning instead of one of us going back to the airport, getting the car, then going back to the hotel).

What hotels are on Priceline? If we do use Priceline, I guess we could get two rooms. :) We've bid before for the WDW area (got Gaylord Palms), so I'd be open to using it. For May, how far in advance would you recommend bidding? 3* and $40-$50 sounds good.

Biddingfortravel.com and betterbidding.com give good advice. Some people bid as soon as they get their airfare. I usually wait until a few weeks before. I got Shearaton Suites. One room had 2 beds and the living room had a sofa bed. You shouldn't have any problem getting a room with 2 beds. Many of the hotels are just N of the airport in the same area as Hertz and Thrifty.

3* hotels include Sheraton Suites, Haytt, Marriott, Crowne Plaza, Renaissance, Holiday Inn. PL works great, for one night you really don't care which property you get.
