Xmas tree or not??

We will be spending Christmas for the 1st time at Disney this year :banana:
My question is: Do you put a Christmas tree up before you go? We will be leaving Dec.21-28. I feel we do not need a tree. My DD princess: is 9 and knows we will not be home for X-mas. BUT, I am having X-mas dinner at my home on Dec. 17 for my family ( thats my job) :goodvibes Do you think they will mind not having a tree up? I will still decorate the rest of my home.

When we went at Christmas time we were going to be gone for the full 15 days prior to Christmas Day. We seriously thought, we are not going to put that tree up. Then, we realized that we really needed that to be part of our celebration. My kids are all old enough, too...just didn't seem the same. So, we put it up, and were glad we did...we enjoyed it past New Year's Day!

We vacation a lot to WDW/DL in December and always put the tree up.

We put up a tree, then had a good friend put some extra special gifts under the tree from Santa. When we got home the kids were so surprised that Santa still visited our house while we were away.

We leave for WDW on December 20th and return on January 3rd. We too are hosting our family Christmas meal on December 10th. We have decided to just put 1 tree up this year instead of our usual 2. We will take the tree down before we go. We will also put a few of our usual orniments up in the lounge and hang our lights outside which I will be on a timer for when we are away. When we get back it won't take long to put the remaining decorations away. We will probably put the decorations up a week or so earlier than usual.

Funny because I was asking myself the same thing, do I make the tree, we will be leaving Dec 27th and returning January 9th, so I really dont know what to do :confused3

But X-Mas with out a tree is not X-Mas!!!!!! :rotfl:

You have to put up the tree. :flower: You will have plenty of time to enjoy it before you leave. Also you can put is on a timer for lights to go off and on so it looks like someone is still home while you are away.

We are going Dec 18-27 and I have decided not to put up a tree. We generally get a real tree and I would be concerned leaving it there for that long unattended and I have a feeling that I will not have time before we go to take it down. My DD is 8. I was thinking of getting a small tabletop tree while at WDW.

Thats what my dh :earsboy: said we should do! See now I'm really not sure of what to do :confused3 Do you think your daughter will miss not having a real tree Christmas morning? My dd princess: 9 said she would be ok with out a tree. I think she cares more about being at WDW then a x-mas tree.

We have an artificial tree, and I always put it up whether or not we're travelling over Christmas. If a full-size tree seems like too much hassle for a short time, you could get a smaller tabletop tree.

We take a table top tree with us. Last year we didnt decorate our home for X-mas at all. Kind of a bummer. This year I hope to do some but we won't have a big tree up. Just the table top.

We've decided to go the fake tree route this year (thought I'd never do that). We're going from 12/3 through 12/11. I know I could wait and do the real tree when we get back, but I think we're going to be enjoying the Christmas spirit and decorations so much at Disney that I don't want to spoil it by coming home to a bare house. So we're going to put up the tree and other decorations the weekend after Thanksgiving as always, and they'll be there waiting for us when we get back from our trip.

Oh, and someone else here mentioned a small tree for their room at Disney. I just bought a small Disney princess tree at Target (I think it was around $15 or $20 dollars) as a surprise for my girls. I plan to put in our condo when we get there and have planned some gifts for our trip (a new princess dress for lunch at the castle, etc.).

And I've already talked with Santa (another reason to put our tree up at home before we leave) and he's planning to come by on the Friday night before we hit the road for Florida. The girls will wake up to Pal Mickeys and Disney Dollars, along with some other items they might want/need for their trip. And a note from Santa saying he'll see them again on Christmas Eve.

Okay, yes, I've gone overboard. But this is our first trip and I'm the ultimate planner! :earboy2:

DH thought he was going to get out of putting up the tree and other decorations this year because we are going to at WDW the 17th-26th. Think again! We aren't putting up everything we normally do, but we are definitely putting up the tree. We are also taking a small tree with us for our resort room. It's a Pooh and friends tree that we bought at Lowe's for $20. It's so cute and it will be perfect for our Disney Christmas!

We're going the same dates (17-26) and I'm glad I read this thread. I had been thinking that we would skip the tree but I guess that would be bummer for the kiddos. I bought a fake tree last year, just wanted a couple year break from the chores of a real one, so it won't really be a big deal to put it up and leave it up. Plus, it would be depressing to come home the day after X-mas to no decorations.

We just booked our trip to WDW for Christmas. We will not be putting up our tree. Not just because we won't be here for Christmas, but because DS will almost be two and I have envisioned many times how the Christmas tree will be his daily target. I had already decided that this year the Christmas tree was going to have homemade ornaments by DS - this way what ever he was to get into it wouldn't matter as much as the 'real' ornaments we have.

It is a long time tradition that we go to the local tree farm the day after Thanksgiving and cut down our tree. When we were going to be a Disney two years in a row during the Christmas season (one year leaving 12/27 and the next on 12/17) we took the plunge and bought an artificial tree. I was a little saddened by the break in tradition, but still enjoyed the tree throughout the season.

Last year when we were in Orlando on Christmas Day, we also decorated our resort unit with a small artificial tree I bought at a yard sale and lots of Disney ornaments. Also brought along a lighted tree to put on our balcony.

If the tree means something to you, put it up.

I've lived all over the U.S. but always went to visit my family in Arkansas for the holidays. Sometimes for 2 days and sometimes for a week. I always put up a tree.

I finally switched to faux the year that I had to undecorate my live tree at 4 am before SuperShuttle came to pick me up. I went to water the tree and decided that it was SO dry that I didn't dare leave it there by a window while I was gone.

I'm going to be at SSR the first week of December and this year will be joining family in Dallas for 4 days. I'll put up a tree at home, but am going to find a small tree to take to WDW and Dallas.

When we went to Disney at Christmas. We put up the tree at home and it worked out well, because DD wanted the Barbie Christmas tree from Santa. So we set it up and it was our Christmas Tree.

We are also putting up a tree before we leave. We usually have a real one but I will be buying a fake this year. My best friend is going to come over just before we get home and turn on the tree and put whatever gifts the kids dont get from santa in Disney under the tree so it will be all ready when we get home. We told the kids that santa will only leave a few small gifts at Disney for them and then he will leave the others under the tree at home.

I'm an overgrown child, so I absolutely have to have a tree. We were in WDW last year for Christmas (22-29th), and I went all out for the holidays like I always do. For me, Christmas starts the day after Thanksgiving, so that's 3 weeks I got to enjoy the tree before I left. Of course for safety reasons we left it turned off while we were gone, but we had a neighbor come over to feed our cats, so she watered the tree too.

I say do whatever is going to make the holidays enjoyable (and not stressful) for you. But if you end up getting a tree, maybe you could get a small one that won't be as much of a hassle.
