In all respect, is there really a need for these photos? (Not just posting them here, but having them out in the media at all.) They show the deaths of thousands of people, and passing them around like images of the latest celebraty seems wrong to me.

It is too late to not show the photos since they have repeated the videos of the crash a million times. They now have footage of the first plane crash into the World Trade Center and they may have found footage of the crash into the Pentagon.

I completely understand what PigSoldier is saying. Those pictures are pretty sickening. On tv they keep showing footage where someone is jumping from a window out of one of the towers...:( And I can't even imagine what it's like for all the people trapped in the rubble.
However, after seeing the footage on every news channel so many times, it's kind of lost its effect. I think they need to stop showing these pictures and videos over and over, because now it's just getting depressing.

I felt sickened by it too but I felt nobody would mind me showing them.

I guess that's why no-one cared when 3000 died in India. People aren't satisfied with just the news that people have died, they need pictures, to be able to see the suffering and pain, until they actually care.
I agree... this pictures are sickening... but it's reality... it's happening now... :( Now everytime they show that video of the second plane hitting the WTC, I have to look away... that image is haunting & it will be burned in my mind forever.
You don't really need to keep posting things like that. I say we just stop talking about and like on the bright side of everything- We (the US) will make who ever did this to our country pay. I think I've talked about it as much as I ever will. And besides, no offense or anything but, mickeymoose, I think we've seen the pictures on t.v., or at least heard about it so we didn't need to see any more pictures.

WDWfanatic has got a pic of the tower smoking in her sig and I dont see any of you ragging on her! Deal with the pics thats what happened. Moose is just trying to give you a little insight. I realize everyone has seen the videos and pics over and over again but you cant just brush it away. It's in mooses nature to be the first to fill his fellow board members whether its about the packers game, the movies or this!

Thanks DisJosh!
I guess they are right in saying that it is a bit sickening but it seems that they aren't saying that I am a problem.

HEY! HEY!
Let's not go attacking each other, okay? Please!
Ya know, I'm really trying to bite my tongue... & I probably just should keep quiet... but i just want to say that we (well at least I) in NO way were complaining or anything about the pictures moose was posting. We were just saying that the pictures are very sad & we've just seen them so many times... so please josh, just stop... there are more important things to get mad @...

I dont have a problem with them..showing them or not...those images will haunt me forever...watching them fall will haunt me
Suzi-no its not that! see...here in america..us the greatest country with the strongest military in the world..good intelligence and we knew nothing...thats a terrifying thought...thats why China and other countries are actually backing us in this.
and also..you might see it from a bit different angle then us but i dont see it as a passing around of pics of celebrities I see it as the darkest day in American History...and Im happy they are showing them...ppl need to know what happened.
and no i dont need to see pics but without the pics you couldnt really understand what happened..knowing that in my faovrite city the skyline is forever changed scares me and I really dont wanna see the pics when all the smoke clears b/c thats just an empty scary thought.

I'll start this out by apologising to everyone, I still don't see anything constructive coming out of posting these photos, but if other people can, that's fine, I wouldn't attack anyone for that (and I'm hoping I didn't come across that way previously).
I was feeling pretty angry when I posted on this, because one of my net 'friends' had just e-mailed me with photos far, far worse than this, with the subject line 'Exclusive!! New Photos of the Crash!! You Won't Find These On The News!!' I'm pretty sure the majority of them were faked, but it disgusted me the way these photos were sent out as 'a remembrance of all who died' when they were obviously just for us to gawk at.
I kinda equated that e-mail with these photos, and overreacted about everything on this thread.
Hoping there's no hard feelings,
Suzi

I just felt that people wouldn't mind seeing them because it was shown so many times on TV.

But you know what, the more we see them, the angrier we get and the closer we all
become, because we are all suffering together....I was just thinking how awful
it would be had this happened and they also took out all out media outlets, how would
it be if we couldn't see? If we couldn't find out what was going on every minute?
Because we can see, because we are informed and because we can see not only
the US but other countries feeling the same pain, the same outrage...i feel less scared
and closer to everyone in the nation....imagine if our media were knocked out and
all we had were newspapers...wouldn't that make u feel more scared? I am glad that I
can turn the tv on or off as I please, I am glad that I can get the info as it happens...
I WANT to stay informed...i would hate to wonder what was going on and what was going to
happen...because of the media, everyone was alerted to what was happening immediately and other cities such as Chicago where I live were able to evacuate the city and gear up for
a possible attack here....so while the pictures are sad and remind of the attrocity over and over again...it will make us stronger....and madder and we will get justice.

Well....
I disagree with hulabird, but I think now's the wrong time to argue about it. I don't think we can reasonably debate any issues surrounding this tragedy at a time like this.
I was never really talking about MickeyMoose posting the pictures, just the media's attitude to them in general. I never meant anything personally in this thread (and I'm hoping I didn't come across that way).
And to echo KingKobra, let's just forget about it, and all be friends again.
(Re-reading that, I sound like the most hipocritical person ever. I'm aware I started all of this, and again, I hope there's no hard feelings.)

The media has been stressing the pictures and the videos too much lately.
Oh a lighter note, and speaking about typos, I was copying stuff down in S.S., I was saying the words as I was writing them. We were supposed to write 'organization/ central government' and instead of government I wrote quiz! I have no idea why! And then when I read it to my class, I said it the write way (government). then when I put my notebook down, my friend allison said, um why does it say organization/ central quiz? I had no idea that I put quiz!! It was Friday though, and I was really tired : p

Oof.
I just read this whole thing and...all i'm thinking is, it's kind of refreshing to have some normal (or quasi-normal, considering the circumstances) debate going on; it makes me feel like life goes on, no matter what those anal apertures do to our cities. Though...it's the twenty first century, ya, even nine months into the "real" one if yer one of those (heh)...almost everything is bound to be on videotape. They say the average urban human being gets videotaped 10 times a day. In 10 years I bet it'll be 100 times a day. Some think people are too image-conscious now...holy hell, just wait. I figured that the next big (bad) thing to happen, whenever it would, would be caught on video. Hey, those tapes taken from the streets of the first and second planes hitting looked like cuts from a Bruckheimer or Spielberg movie. Gaah. I mean, New York is the most photographed city I can think of. People's justifications for showing the pictures of what happened mostly have to do with stomach, and...our own willingness to come to terms with something no one should be completely prepared to deal with.
And...is it me, or do parts of the media seem to make it look like they attacked all of America, not just New York and the Pentagon? UPN had this patriotic promo thing on tonight, and they had the words "Attack On America", with some nondescript photography of various parts of New York and DC burning...without specifying what they were showing, as if to evoke the subliminal image that the damage is more...widespread. Hunh.
I knew three people who eyewitnessed the World Trade Center attack...one of them, my cousin Frank, worked in the NYSE. Whoa. He's OK, btw. The other two were several blocks away, one at Columbia and the other in her 23rd floor apartment. Another person I know lost a family member in the plane that crashed into the Pentagon. Ya. My dad's buddy's son is in the Army, and will be shipping out soon...and can't tell anyone where or when he's going. To the people who think this is going to be a war like we fought in the twentieth century, I say how can we fight this enemy that way if we have rules...and they don't? This is a whole new ballgame. Pearl Harbor was a military target...and well, the Pentagon wasn't even their primary DC target. Kind of sobering, isn't it?
At home, here, where it IS safe, hard as it may be to believe...*rolls eyes*...this is America. We'll pull through. The hardest thing to think of is that no one had to die, but it happened. It's in the past. We gotta carry the afterthought through to the future, etc ad nauseum, but still. I listened to all the speeches and pundits and endless talk and...you know what? We actually have been through worse.

Today our student council gave out red white and blue ribbon pins to wear or put on our backpacks. I thought that was really nice. And in English we had to write an essay on what we'd tell our kids/future generations about this tragedy and why they should always remember it. I know I posted on this already, but I think that Uville story is so creative and touching. Well, just thought I'd share with all of you. :)
