May go to Disneyland... needs advice

Ok, we're looking into either a cruise or a trip to California. I really was going for the cruise, but I've seen a few negative reviews and our kids are little and stuff like the fact that the pools are dirty grosses me out.
So.... we're thinking of going ot California. (humming Led Zep to that! lol)
How far is Disneyland from Knotts Berry Farm?
What hotels are good???
What sites can I read about Disneyland and the area.

Knotts is only about 10 minutes from Disneyland.
