If CRV or AKV comes true, I might unload the 40 and do a 50 pt or so add-on at one (or both) of those! :goodvibes
Or who knows, maybe I'll just keep it all and add on anyway!

That is enough for us now, we like to do WDW, then the beach, then WDW, the beach.. etc.....

Three things you should never ask in a polite society:

1) What someone's religion is;

2) A lady's age; and

3) How many DVC points one owns.

Although... I'm not sure if DVC'ers pass for polite society.

Luv, luv, luv our BCV. I thought we would just use the SSR points as "last minute" points for stays that we don't plan well in advance. Instead, I've found myself stressing over the potential planning problems using the 130 points, since we've finally come to terms with our BCV addiction. I don't think SSR points will be in our family much longer. Hope to add on again to BCV once we sell SSR.

I don't think you can trust those numbers, 80 is not even 1% of all members! If I understand math correctly, (which could be a major issue!!!) If you really want to know, do a pole, and keep it stuck to the top for awhile.

JimC
10-08-2005, 06:00 PM
Based on the detailed December 2004 budgets for calendar year 2005 there were about 23,650,000 points. Divide that among some 75,000 members as detailed in the 3/05 POS. That would be about 315 points per member. The individual resorts ranged from 250 to 360 points per member.

Admittedly this is off because two different dates were involved, but the results don't surprise me.

If you really want to know, do a pole, and keep it stuck to the top for awhile. It really doesn't matter how many people reply to his poll. The only conclusion that anyone can draw from any poll like this is that the "average number of points held by the posters who responded to the poll are xx".

Without selecting an appropriate sample size according to very specific principles (and self-selection isn't one of the priciples, LOL), you cannot apply the results of a poll to the entire population of DVC members no matter how many people respond.

I guess I never thought of it that way. I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to be impressed even if I had 2000 points (which I don't). I think for the most part, people are just proud they own DVC. We just sold a contract of 25 points to first time owners. Hopefully, they'd be just as proud to post about their points as people with big numbers.

You're likely not the only one to feel the thread is pretentious, though I don't find the question OR the answers pretentious at all. It was a simple question, with straight-forward answers. I've had no jealous fits after reading of someone with more points than I, nor have I felt superior to someone with fewer, and could care less what username is associated with what response. Still, even though it's not statistically accurate, I've read with interest, as I'm curious as to how many points people feel they need, where they've chosen them, and why. As I see it, it's not a "contest" -- just an interesting insight.

No....but, I do think it is fun!! I LOVE to see where people own, how many points at each resort (and no, I am not one of them that own at several...just one for us), and most importantly WHY they own the number of points at each.

We're doing okay with the number of points we have...I mean I would LOVE to have more....but, I am really happy (and, a bit jealous) for everyone who has more than me. But, I also realize life is full of choices. We could have more points if we had a smaller house, older cars, didn't go out so much, put my dd in fewer activities, etc, etc, etc. I think that is true for everyone.

I never really thought this thread was more pretentious than any of the "Who's going in (name the month here)" threads. Obviously, some people can plan to stay longer than other...but, that doesn't make the thread pretentious.

BTW....we have added on over the years, and I was just as proud to have fewer points as I am to have what I have now. My mom has 50 VWL points...she is SOOO stinkin' proud that she tells everyone. She would like to have maybe 15 more points and she is DONE!!! She only stays in studios (it's just her and my stepdad), and 65 points would give her 5-6 nights in a studio....that is ALL she wants, and she considers any more to be "wasteful" (although, she does come once a year as our guest).

I think Mary Poppins said it best..."Enough is as good as a feast"! If you have what you want, you are rich...whether it is 50 points or 5000 points. To own any DVC points at all is such a blessing!!

I think it's interesting to see the number of points people have. I also think it proves that DVC is addicting to many people. I have to say I am suprised at the posts. So many people with so many points and many at different resorts. I am in the minority here. We have only 150 BWV and just sold 50 VB. It's getting harder to get to Disney with our kids at the ages they are right now and the money issue. I considered selling BWV also but hate to. We love it there. I even considered buying SSR at the current special but slapped myself back to reality. We sold VB because time and money were issues so...why buy more right now? It is addicting though.... and tempting..... slap, slap, slap!!!!

We have 160 points at SSR. It's just the right amount for us. My husband has his own business so vacation time is scarce. Our "main" vacation each year is two weeks in Key West. I wanted DVC to treat our two grandsons to a gramma and grampa vacation! Right now, they're too little for that (2 yrs 4 mos and 4 mos) so I'm using the points for F&W! Quite clever, I thought! :goodvibes

I don't care if people know how many points we own. I'm happy to have points. There is always gonna be someone out there with more.

Sometimes I think we're stupid to have DVC with the price of dues, etc. To be honest if we didn't have DVC we probably wouldn't be going as often and we'd be staying in mods instead of deluxes. We're really not saving money here! ;)

But, my Mom said to me she thought it was smart. (I was almost embarrassed when I told them we bought.) They bought land in the mountains they were gonna build a cabin on years ago and never did. They still pay dues on it and it has been for sale forever. At least we're using ours. They have even been contemplating buying DVC themselves.

We originally bought 150 at BCV and IMMEDIATELY realized it was not enough and bought another 50. A few years later we seriously regretted not buying at our love VWL so we added 60 there. 200 at BCV will get us a two bedroom for five nights during the summer when our kids grow up and 60 at VWL will get hubby and I five nights in a studio during the winter. Sounds good! Course, right now we're about a year borrowed out...

I would like to buy another 40 at VWL so we can give the girls an even split of 150 points each when we get old.

Sooo,
200 BCV

I am a curious person, it doesn't make me jealous or feel like people are bragging, but I want to know even more. What do you like to use your points for?

week stays, studio, weekends, 3br, I know dvc is flexible that's the joy but when you bought what did you intend to use it for? and when you bought more then what? and how many are you usually traveling with?

I am a 30something mom to 4, so when we travel it's 6 of us. It will be 2br always until we aren't traveling with everyone. We just did a school year vaca and I'd like to stay away from that for now. My 9th grader just can't miss that much.

So we are buying!!! FedEx guy is supposed to come tomorrow with my package to let my dh review (not the computer type-even though I told him he'd learn so much on the dis) We are starting with 158pts at SSR, this will allow us a 2br in "magic" season (i.e. Spring Break) or early summer every other year. Once in a while we might rent our points to cruise or stay m-r then do the 3n wonder.

Thanks all for sharing!

When my Mother died in 1999 I decided to take my kids & gk's on a xmas cruise as xmas was a time when we all got together with my parents. We enjoyed the cruise so much that we bought into the club with the idea we would go on a family cruise every other year. Well, we have so much fun(there are 8 of us) that we decided to try to go every year, since I'm paying for everything, including flights it's a little difficult. We do have a 1,000 points and we sail on off season and everyone now uses usair credit cards so 2/3 of the flights are free. It will probably cost me 5,000 for the cruise, my wife retires next Oct and we plan to cruise several times a year, just us. Although in July we went to WLV for a week as we couldn't swing a cruise as we are scheduled for the Alaska Cruise next year. This is their inheritance I'm spending. I decided I'd like to enjoy it with them.

First, Welcome Home....you will LOVE it.

We bought 200 points early this year, then added an additional 120 in the summer when they offered a great add-on deal. So we have 320 points.

We did 5 nights in a 1BR Beach Club Villa in May
We did 5 nights in a 1BR Boardwalk Villa in September (and purchased a 6th night cash)
We did 2 nights at Hilton Head Island this past weekend (1 discounted cash, 1 points) without the kids (my sister flew in and watched the kids for 2 nights)

We have the 7 night Eastern Carribbean Cruise set for the 4 of us in January, then Boardwalk again for 5 nights in April.

We may do a Grand Villa in Old Key West (sleeps 12) either in the Summer of 2006 or 2007 to have a family reunion of my two sisters, myself, our parents and our kids. ( If we do 2006, I will borrow the points from 2007 use year)

We also want to do Hilton Head Island again next year without the kids again....it was a really nice getaway.

We bought into DVC because of the flexibility. So far, we love it!

As of today am proud to say we are new owners of 150 points. Currently, this will be enough points for 2 WDW trips per year. Once our boys get a little bigger we may add on for larger accomodations, right now, no plans to add on. 1 bdrm. SSR in Oct.'05 for MNSSHP (1st Oct. vac.)
2 bdrm. SSR for Jan."06 for Marathon week

:cheer2: My husband and I "jumped in" (ok, walked in VERY slowly) with a 25 point resale VWL. We could not be happier.

Yes, we love Disney, yes we are visiting once a year and yes, we know that 25 is not enough for much, but we are so happy to just be in. We figure that we can now add on at our leisure, renting as we need to until we find exactly what we want. The plus is that we don't pay a lot of $$ for maintenance.

We definitely expect to add at least 150-200 points points in the future, but we don't know where. We LOVE WL, we're staying at OKW in a 1 bedroom for a week in January, and have dinner plans at BCV and the Boardwalk so we can look them over. Not a lot of interest in SSR, but that may be just because I haven't actually see it.

I have a 150 point contract every year, reminber if you go every other year it is a 300 point contract. I only get three weeks vacation every year, so it hard to go more then once a year. We go every other year, or a 5 night studio trip to HH and then a big WDW trip the following year with more then 150 points to work with. Unless you have a lot of extra money to spend on airfair, food and park passes, I would suggest 150 to start with. You can always add on later, or rent points to add on a trip.

We'd like to add on but don't want more points at SSR. We'll wait on the next resort built...please be AK!

200 at SSR

We haven't even closed yet, but in the last few days I'm starting to have second thoughts about whether we should have gotten 150 at SSR and 50 at BWV instead. C'est la vie! Maybe a BWV add-on in a few years. I'm actually only worried about having some of our points there in case Eagle Pines is added and it starts to be really hard to get into the smaller resorts. I just want to be able to stay at BWV occasionally, since we were married on the Boardwalk and honeymooned at BWI.

Congratulations. You can always add on if necessary. The difficulty will come if you want to stay at a smaller resort during peak DVC times. Otherwise you are probably fine.

that is what we have love SSR...whatis eagle pines thought it was a golf course??? new resort????
Eagle Pines was an announced new DVC resort by Eagle Pines golf course. It was supposed to be the next resort after BCV. But Disney, suffering under depressed profits, decided to put Pop Century on delay for phase I, hold for phase II, hold on DVC Eagle Pines and to close the Disney Institute. DVC picked up the old DI property with much of its infrastructure intact and SSR was developed instead of Eagle Pines. Disney rarely discards ideas (look at what CA borrowed from the cancelled Disney America park) so Eagle Pines or something similar may resurface at sometime.

Here is the offical press release. Note that they define the style as "Spanish, Moorish, Romanesque and Gothic" forms of architecture.

Disney Vacation Development, Inc., operators of Disney Vacation Club (DVC) -- Disney’s innovative vacation ownership program -- announced today that it will expand its timeshare resort presence at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida by building a seventh DVC property (subject to obtaining necessary approvals). This latest development for the growing Disney Vacation Club product marks the Company’s largest ownership resort project to date.
The announcement heralds a time of exciting growth for Disney Vacation Club, which now boasts a membership of nearly 60,000 member families from over 60 countries.

The proposed 600-unit ownership development is slated to occupy a 61-acre site along the award-winning Disney’s Eagle Pines golf course at Walt Disney World Resort. All rooms will feature either a pool, golf course or forest view. Initial plans call for the construction of a main Inn building encompassing a check-in area; accommodations; restaurant/lounge; theme pool with feature slide; retail space; arcade; common living room area and a health club, as well as Villa buildings containing vacation home accommodations. Development will begin this fall with an estimated opening in spring/summer 2004.

“We are very excited to expand the Disney Vacation Club concept to an entirely new resort area here at Walt Disney World Resort,” said George Aguel, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Development, Inc. “I am confident that this new offering will be a successful addition to the dynamic vacation options we provide.”

The theme of the proposed DVC resort will complement and enhance the beautiful setting found at Disney’s Eagle Pines golf course. The new resort will be inspired by the architecture of Addison Mizner, a celebrated early 20th century architect who led the renaissance of Florida resort design. The property’s design will reflect a variety of motifs found in indigenous Florida buildings of this era, including Spanish, Moorish, Romanesque and Gothic forms. The atmosphere and elegance found in the coastal communities of southeast Florida (including West Palm Beach and Boca Raton) will be found in the resort’s architecture, ranging from tile roofs to fountains to lush, tropical landscaping.

Commissioned to design the resort was renowned architect Graham Gund, who created the architectural look for such Disney projects as Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort and Disney’s Vero Beach Resort -- another Disney Vacation Club property. Gund designed the resort to take advantage of the pristine setting found at the Eagle Pines golf course location while maintaining the integrity of the existing golf course. Guests at the resort will have views to Disney’s Eagle Pines golf course but golfers’ view of the property will be buffered, with resort buildings “stepping down” in height as they near the golf holes.

The new resort is scheduled to open in phases, with the first phase consisting of the Inn building and five Villa buildings for a total of 360 units. The Inn and one Villa building are expected to open in spring/summer 2004, with the four additional Villa buildings opening throughout the remainder of that year. The final phase of five additional Villa buildings containing 240 units are anticipated to open by spring/summer 2005.

As Disney Vacation Club approaches its decade mark on Oct. 1, 2001, the Company is celebrating a number of achievements, including the expansion of its resort collection through the proposed addition of the new resort at Disney’s Eagle Pines golf course and the completion of Disney’s Beach Club Villas, which is currently under construction at Walt Disney World Resort next to the popular Disney’s Beach Club Resort (expected opening in September 2002).

“These latest expansions of our successful vacation ownership program will allow us to provide still more magical experiences for our guest and member families,” added Aguel.

The current collection of Disney Vacation Club resorts includes Disney’s Old Key West Resort; Disney’s BoardWalk Villas and The Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge -- all located at the Walt Disney World Resort -- as well as Disney’s first resorts beyond the Disney theme park locations; Disney’s Vero Beach Resort on Florida’s Atlantic Coast and Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort in South Carolina.

My husband and I bought 160 points at SSR in October....we will most likely add on at least another 50 points over the next few years...it is just he and I right now, so 160 is enough. However, with kids in the near future, we will need more points for larger accomodations.

100 at VWL.

Yeah, I know, we're pitiful newbies from Oregon. We have yet to make our first trip. We plan on taking a 200 point trip every two years until we have the cash saved to add on somewhere.

We're hoping to make it to Disneyland this May. I just gotta get there before the 50th is over!

Shouldn't Disneyworld have a 35th coming up sometime soon?

25 at OKW as of last Spring

Would add on a LOT more but DH isn't a huge "Disney" person and thinks this is enough! I love to be "in the system" and control how many points we need each trip by having them transferred from another member as needed. Our first trip was in a 2BR at OKW and we loved it. I'd like to add on there to have enough points for a 2BR every other year. We'll only pay cash so I have a separate account in ING called "DVC"!

well pretentious............yes it is............but here goes...........total 2250.............360 at SSR and i cant remember the rest.............i know i have alot at BCV...............that is my favorite spot. Sorry about the pretentionness???? I love neologisms............six weeks ago we added 1000 more that we got from a very unfortunate IRS/DVC member situation...................so we now have 3250, but we are now thinking o fselling all of our original contracts we bought in 91 which would be at a large profit since the latest 1000 were all from SSR and we have in effect bought 12 extra yrs at SSR and used the OKW original points for sixteen yrs and bought in at about 41 dollars a point.............so the point total may come down quite a bit in the next 6 months too.
