Ruth,
PayPal should be be acceptable for "International" payments. We have paid for our rental this way and have used PayPal for many Ebay transactions both as buyer and seller.
PayPal do not make any distinction between countries of origin. You can make the payment to anybody witha n e-mail address and as long as you have verified your credit card with PayPal you should have no problems.

Try a different renter? ;)
I agree with Pat that Paypal should be an ideal method of payment in this situation, so it sounds as though maybe the renter just isn't comfortable renting to a non US resident. Points rental depends on a lot of trust from both sides, so it makes sense to have everyone comfortable with the set-up.
Good luck with your rental :)

I agree with Hilary and Pat. I've rented a few times now and always paid with Paypal. If you are a DVC member it's also possible to get the points transferred into your account. If you're not too happy paying the whole amount up front, you can try paying a deposit and the rest 40 odd days before departure.
There certainly is a lot of trust on the renters side. Having said that, I, for one, haven't heard of anything untoward happening.
Let us know how you get on,
Andy

I was just reading the posts and I'm thinking that the person you wanted to rent from doesn't want to take Paypal as a payment since they would have to pay the fees associated with your payment. Paypal charges the person receiving the money a 2.9% fee plus an additional 1% for International payments, maybe that is what they are concerned about. If you haven't finalized things maybe you could go in halfs with the fees? Just a thought.
