We will be driving from San Francisco to Monterey, then from Monterey to Anaheim. I just came across a place called Solvang in the AAA tour book. We were thinking of making this our rest stop for a couple of hours. It looks so quaint though, that I am wondering if there is enough to do & see there to warrant a nights stay? Anyone have any information on this place????:bounce:

We FINALLY stopped at Solvang last year and it is a fun place to drive around and look at the buildings. We stopped and had a great breakfast and then we walked around. A couple hours would be fine... it was for me. My sister would have preferred shopping a while longer. There are LOTS of shops so be prepared! We talked about going back and spending the night there as there are a few neat looking motels and hotels.

We "happened" upon Solvang on a trip we took 6 years ago and spent the better part of the day there. I remember feeling I would have liked to have spent more time there.

A few hours would be enough... it would be a fine place to stop in the evening and stay overnight, much nicer than staying near the freeway. Be sure to read through teh thread about Other Things to Do In Southern California -- there are many nice places to stop on that drive. :)

My family often stops here on road trips. We have never stayed overnight though. I have always thought a few hours was enough time to look around, shop, and eat. It is a really neat place.

Things close up really early so during the day there is shopping but at night, not much to do. It would be a great place to stay for several hours, everyone is right about the lots of shops and good bakeries! If it is convenient to spend the night go, if not continue on, but spend a few hours there.
