I have been exercising since November and dieting since June. I have lost 35 lbs, but realize that this is no longer a "diet" but a "lifestyle change". What are some healthier foods that you substitute for less healthy foods?
For example, I used to love to eat pretzles, now when I need something salty, I eat 1 oz of salted roasted almonds instead.
I am looking to see what other items, people use to substitute for things that they "used" to eat.

Instead of microwave popcorn I eat Quaker mini rice cakes (60 calories for 7) in either Kettle Corn or Caramel Corn.
I also use Butter Buds on steamed veggies instead of regular butter or margarine.
I eat alot of veggies, usually steamed or raw. The calories are minimal, but its something to fill you up. I eat alot of salads as well.
Almonds are great for you, very high in essential fatty acids. But be careful, since they are all fat, they are very high in calories. They make a good sanck but those calories can add up quick.

i try to eat fish instead of beef or pork, low cal dressing instead of full cal dressing, lettuce leaves on sandwiches instead of bread, diet soda, sweetner in tea

I've cut back my sugars/carbs, so instead of "lite" dressings, cheese, sour creams, etc. I eat the "real" stuff. The "lite" products have added sugars.
Instead of lowfat milk, I use 1/2 & 1/2 or cream in my coffee -- also to cut back on sugar.
And of course, Splenda instead of sugar in coffee & tea. :)
I eat steamed or sauteed veggies instead of pasta and potatoes.
Wild rice instead of white rice.
Whole grain bread or tortilla, instead of white or plain wheat bread.
Butter instead of margarine -- to cut out the transfats.
50 pounds gone - 30 more to go! :banana:

I LOVE the Caramel Corn. They're a great snack! :flower:
