I love staying on site because you get FOTL all day. You never have long waits for anything. It's also so convenient to walk from the parks back to the on site hotels for mid day breaks and fun at the pool.

If you are going at an off peak time, then stay at the Nick hotel. Otherwise, you would be better off with FOTL in my opinion. If you are doing more than Universal (say Disney) then stay at the Nick hotel. It is actually closer to Disney than Universal, at least to me it was.

If you do a search for Nick Hotel on the Orlando board, there are some reviews. Personally, after reading them, I changed my mind about staying there. It seems a little loud and crazy for me, and for the price, I'd rather stay on-site.

I just stayed at Nick Hotel in May for one night. I personally woudn't give up FOTL for the whole trip, but we were doing WDW this trip, not US/IOA. We saved serious $$$ by surprising our DS's with Nick Hotel the last night of the trip. The reason for saving $$$ was that once they saw the place, they were through with theme parks. We just hung out at the hotel and pools the day we checked in and the next day (we got late checkout). It was like spending $200 (w/tax) for a day and a half of down time. Mind you, it's not quiet and restful at the pool but the kids had a blast and we got to chill out on a lounge chair.

I don't think Nick Hotel is worth it for the whole theme park trip, because the kids won't want to leave the hotel. If you don't mind changing hotels, it makes a great end of the trip surprise. We actually left "clues" for the boys a day in advance leading up to checking into Nick. They loved the surprise. It was priceless to see their excitement as they followed the "clues" and their Dad drove into the Nick parking lot.

We are booking the nick hotel for the last day of our trip in Decemeber(our 6 year old is obsessed with staying there thanks to the many television commercials she sees on the nick channel). By the last day, I think, we will all be okay with a hotel day. I am worried about the weather though, does anyone know if the nick hotel pools are heated? Thanks!

You really and truly should stay on site. The hrh is a great place for children ... and you get to skip all the lines for staying on site. the nick hotel isnt worth it.
