Well we travel (I hope) in 2 weeks for our first time in all things USA and Orlando. Unfortunately some bad luck has been coming our way over the last couple of weeks and we are not sure what to make of it.

First DW steps on one of the DD's feet accidently and puts her in loads of pain.

I damaged a Back Ligament and a Spine disc, cant move for a few days and have had to go private to get myself ready for the holidays. Still cant sit up properly for more than an hour or so, hmmm looking forward to that plane.

DW (Sarah) hurts her neck turning over in bed and cant move her head sideways too much without suffering terrible pain.

Plans for building a dormer on the rear of our already Dormer Bungalow fail miserably and we go into loggerheads with the draughtsman who submitted them. We arelooking at possibly having no roof present on one side of the house whilst we are on holiday. Hmm that should help when i am relaxing at the pool.

We may come back off holiday to the fact that there may not be a job for us. This will become clear eventually and follows the Government signing a new contract for running benefit systems when no one really knows what the blazes they have actually signed.

On the flipside we look at some of the terrible predicaments that are facing residents of the Gulf coastal areas and should be thankful for our overall safety.

I personally am holding onto the fact that we are not getting it too easy to make us feel more thankful that we are lucky enough to be able to go on such a wonderful holiday with our children. Something we both dreamed of as children but wont realise until 08/10/2005 at the ages of 34 and 33.

Hope you have the best time while you are away. I remember you had problems with your flights as well.

October is just the best time to go WDW and the first time we went was on the 8th October 1992 for our trip of a lifetime. We have been back six times since and are DVC members and are going back every year for 48 years.

I hope you love it as much as we do. We will all be thinking of you.

\cheers everyone, I think we are using up are allowance before we get there. Just been onto the Joiner who will be building our dormer and he doesnt have public liability to cover hime in case he damages anything to do with next door. We have to be careful now.

Anyway 13 days to go.............. :umbrella: :sick:

The holiday seems so untouchable because i have so much to do before we go, i have managed a complete re-work of our garden which has proved to be stupidly stressful and the cause of my back injury. Now i have to get the Dormer work off the ground from a week on Monday, i thought that i should be grateful that i had all this to do before we went to pass the time but i wont miss it.

*Thinks of the MK on our first Disney Day, riding the Monorail to the entrance :goodvibes *

How about looking at things positively....

...you have two weeks to wait for your holiday, so:

DD's "squished" foot will be better by then;
Your back will be sorted out in two weeks;
DW's neck will loosen up;
Whilst there is a possiblility of no roof on your house, the probability is that there will be one;
Wait till the government has signed the contract, you have no control over that and no amount of worrying will change the outcome;
The worst is probably over in the US..."Rita" was downgraded to category 1 very quickly. The US government are probably erring on the side of safety;
and finally, your bad luck has happened, you're going to have an excellent time on holiday. :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana:

Stay positive it sounds like theres nothing you can actually DO about any of this, try and push your builder to make some progress and then sit back with a dole whip and let it all take its own path! feel for you with the bad back tho' spend hours relaxing in the bath before you go!!

Cheers for the support, looks like the dormer work will start a week today, if all things come together we should have a secure house before we go but at least a day or so after we travel. My back is improving day by day and i have another appointment for treatment tonight.

Almost time for the single digit, not long now.

Not great, I agree - but better now than 11 days from now!! Just think how great that holiday will be in contrast to all these problems!! Hope you're all well soon and off to the Magic in fine fettle!!!

Hi Rob,
Bad luck only happens to people who think they have bad luck! Take a deep breath, sit back and look at what you have that's good. We have to realise that some not good things happen to us all now and again, and we do cope with what we have to. I keep telling people I know it's not the destination that counts, its the journey along the way (and I'm not talking holidays there!). It will all come together in the end, so why stress more than necessary (we all need a little stress to feel alive!).

And you have a wonderful holiday to the best place on earth to look forward to. Everyone in WDW is happy. One of the first things DD said when we landed back in Manchester yesterday morning (yes YESTERDAY!) was 'Mum why is no one smiling here?'.

Makes you realise what our kids value.

Hope all goes well for you Rob,

Lynn

I always try to think that, if problems arise before the hol, we should at least get them out of the way before we travel ;)
Have a great holiday.

:wizard: Good luck Rob, sending you Pixie Dust... :shamrock:

Hopefully you have got it all out of the way before you go...I'm sure you'll have a great time.

We went to DLP a few years ago leaving a builder in our house to finish our kitchen in our absence. It was my Mum's 60th birthday trip and I have to say I was worried he'd trash the house and do a runner leaving the doors wide open etc. But once we got to Disney I forgot all about it, and it was just great to come home to a new kitchen.... :teeth:

One thing I do have to say though; let's hope that you leave the bad luck behind, but that Man U still lose while you're gone :maleficen

Sorry, couldn't resist....have a great holiday :sunny:
