Check out this site. It gives animation graphics of the major hurricanes from this year and last, including Rita.

Rita is up to 165 ?!?! :earseek:
That's equal to Katrina!
The Texas coast is going to have some pretty bad flooding for sure. :earseek:
If it stays a category 5, holy damn :earseek:

Rita is going to be bad.
Here's what they are saying on MSNBC:
Forecasters said Rita could be the most intense hurricane on record ever to hit Texas, and one of the most powerful ever to slam into the U.S. mainland.

It's also a huge storm. We got a huge downpour from the feeder bands this afternoon - and we must be at least 600 miles from the center.

we got a part of that feeder band here too...the wind picked up a bunch with it. We needed the rain though.
Chad - LOL on the bigger in Texas.

Right now I'm glad that Texas is so big. Imagine all of the evacuees from Louisiana and the Texas coast hudded into an area the size of northern Rhode Island. ;)
We should be OK up here. At least that's what I keep telling myself. :cool1:

that was really cool, thanks for sharing. I'm not happy with the '3rd most intense hurricane on record' right now!
I'm really worried about the Galveston seawall and the Houston shipping channel, this isn't going to be pretty at all.

I have an uncle who lives in Beaumont - glad he & his wife got out. That's a big relief - he's had a recent bypass (at 72) and she is 17 years older than he is. My uncle has lived in Beaumont my whole life & this is the first time he has ever evacuated.
My cousin & her husband have decided to stick it out in Houston. Hope they know what they are doing! I think they live in the northern area of town, but still - yikes this thing looks scary!
