I know this is off topic, but everyone on these boards are so helpful.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any boards like this for New York City? We are planning a family cruise next July out of NYC and would like to spend three days in the city beforehand to show the kids. I am looking for a nice decent hotel that will fit 5 people in a room. I know about the Doubletree at Times Square, but it's over $400 a night!!! Just a little out of the budget.

Any help would be so appreciated.

Thanks so much!

You're probably going to be better off getting two connecting rooms. Not many NYC hotels will accomodate five in a room that's not a suite.

http://www.edisonhotel.com might be an option--I've stayed there in the past (not in the past 6-7 years though) and it was clean and comfortable, although value minded.

WE have stayed at the Double Tree on TImes Square last year. Found it cheaper to get the rate from expedia. It was around $270 a night.
We have also stayed at the Belvidere Hotel. I can't remember what the rates were for that hotel, but MUCH cheaper than Doubletree.
One thing I did discover was that the rates fluctuated from time to time. Keep checking the travel sites until you find a rate you can live with.

I usually don't stay over night for our trips to NYC. I do travel there with my 4 kids. It's a 2 hour drive for us. We have a blast!!!

When I went to NYC a couple of years ago, I got a lot of information off Fodors.com. I pricelined a beautiful room for $75 a night. You'd need to do two rooms with a family of 5 but that might be an option.

Go to Fodors and type in NYC and you can do a search of hotels etc. I got a lot of great info from that site. Also, I had reservations in August of this year (had to cancel the trip) at Radio City apts. I guess it's a great kept secret in NYC. It's an apt. style hotel in Times Square. You can get a studio or one or two bedroom. I had a studio booked for $119 a night which is a steal for NYC. Do a search on Fodors to get more info on them. I guess it's not the ritz, but clean and walking distance to the theater etc. There web address is radiocityapartments.com Good security too, I read.

Hope that helps, and good luck.

The flagship Embassy Suites Hotel in Manhattan is very nice and you can sleep five people in one suite (two double beds in bedroom and fold-out sofa in living room). A full hot cooked to order breakfast is also included. Don't know what rates are next year, but this is a nice property.

I've only stayed at the DoubleTree once and it's very nice, but I was there on the company. I've mostly done day trips, but I always use www.NYCTourist.com to get a lot of information.
