Well, we arrived yesterday and I will keep adding to this thread with reviews and photos until we leave (on Saturday 9/24)

Four of us: Two Adults, 2 children (4 & 3). We are on the Disney Dining Plan that they offered for free. So far, the Dining plan is fantastic. Definitely worth the extra I paid in rack rate verses discount, and even the room that isn't used for several nights. I would definitely consider paying for it on the next trip. I really hope that they allow DVC members to buy into the plan soon. Well, here it goes...

Sept 17th
Arrived and checked in right around dinner time at ASMo

ASMo Food Court - Dinner - ASMo **(2 stars)
Typical Mall Food Court type options. An Italian area, a Grill Area, a Bakery area, etc.

Order:

Myself: Philly Cheesesteak - Pretty good - Not REAL Philly (since I am from the Philly area originally, I am very critical), but good tasting.

Wife: Chicken Caesar Salad - She really liked it....of course we were driving in my truck for the last 8 hours, then spent an hour checking in, etc.....I think she would have thought cardboard was really good at that point! :rotfl:

DS4: Mac and Cheese - Typical Disney Kid's Mac and cheese but they had two sides in the Mickey Ears - I chose Mashed Potatos and Corn. He liked the potatos, but not the corn

DS3: Chicken Quesadilla - He didn't like it at all. I tasted it and it was ok...nothing to write home about. We took it back with us, but he never ate it. The trash can seemed to enjoy it pretty well, though.

Desserts: (2) Chocolate Cakes, Yogurt Parfait and a Pudding. All were good.

TOTAL BILL: 48.98 (WOW..glad I didn't have to pay for that one!)

4 CS Credits - 24 CS Credits Remaining

Sept 18th

Breakfast in our Hotel Room (Cereal, Fruit, Yogurt)

Pecos Bill's - Lunch - MK ** (2 Stars)

We were planning on Pinocchio's Village Haus, but with our touring plans, it just didn't make sense to backtrack to Fantasy Land. We ended up at our old standby of Peco's Bills.

First MAJOR complaint.....ONLY dessert available is a Peanut Butter something or other.....and my DS3 is ALLERGIC to Peanuts!!! NONE of us could eat dessert. I will be putting a complaint into Disney about this one. What were they thinking? At least throw in some kind of other type dessert as a substitute....we asked but were told there is no other dessert that we could get. They did throw in an extra set of fries...which didn't get eaten anyway and ended up in the trash. (I didn't put a complaint in while we were there because we were all hungry, the kids were getting cranky from hunger, and it would have caused more problems than it was worth at that point...I will be back in MK on Fri and may stop in there and speak to a manager)

Myself: Bacon Double Cheeseburger - Pretty good burger as far as Fast Food goes. They claim 1/2 pound, but I was able to eat it all including some fries and not be stuffed.

Wife: Chicken Wrap - She said it was good...but premade and had lots of mayonnaise and stuff in there. She is on Weight Watchers and would have preferred to have something that she had a little more control over. She didn't see a Salad listed on the menu, but later saw people walking with salads, so I guess they do have them.

Kids: Shared a Chicken Tenders Kids Meal. - Ate most of it between the two of them. Had lots of fries that filled them up.

TOTAL BILL: $28.25

3 CS Credits - 21 CS Credits Remaining

SNACKS - MK - Outside Pinocchio's Village Haus

4 Various Ice Cream bars

TOTAL BILL: $10
4 Snack Credits - 24 Snack Credits Remaining

Le Cellier - Dinner - Epcot ***** (5 Stars)

Wow...this was FANTASTIC...We couldn't get enough of the Pretzel Bread Sticks! All Breadsticks at our table were done within minutes!

Myself: Cheese Soup - LOVED it
Surf and Turf - Filet melted in my mouth...wished I had more. Lobster was good, but small. If I did all over, I would probably have just gotten the Filet in the larger size.

Wife: House Salad - She was happy with that
Surf and Turf - She RAVED about it for hours after the meal

Kids: Paid OOP for them with DDE card - Hot Dog and Chicken Tender meals. I know there are people who will preach that this is wrong, but I told the CM exactly what I wanted to do and she was great with it. Disney has this "loophole" and allows it, so I am going to use it to my advantage.

Here is the pic of the Surf and Turf
http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1456.jpg

Here's my son's Hot dog (not that anyone is really concerned with the presentation of a hot dog platter)

http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1457.jpg

Desserts: "Happiest Celebration" Canadian Club Chocolate Cake and Raspberry Sorbet.

Cake was VERY rich. I shared it with both my sons. My wife ate every drop of or Sorbet and loved it. (didn't get a pic of her Sorbet...she started eating it before I had the chance! :earseek: )

http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1461.jpg

TOTAL BILL (for 2 adults only): $123.86 (Whoa...that's a lot of dough!)

My wife and I had a few beers to go with Dinner, and we paid OOP for the kids....with the DDE 20% discount, that bill came to $34.02

Left $10 tip, so We paid $44.02 for $157.88 worth of food!

2 TS Credits - 26 TS Credits Remaining

Sept 19th

Breakfast in our Hotel Room (Cereal, Fruit, Yogurt)

L'Originale Alfredo di Roma - Lunch - Epcot **** (4 Stars)

Well, in light of saving 2 credits last night from Le Cellier, we decided to do a TS lunch using those 2 credits and paying for the kids OOP. Thus we ended up in Italy. It was relatively empty for lunchtime, but service was a bit slow. Our server had only been in the country for 2 months and was not great with his english, but friendly none-the-less.

Myself: Trittico di Pasta - The Pasta Trio - EXCELLENT. Perfect portions and some of the best pasta/sauces I've had in a while. I highly recommend this dish.

Wife: Lasaunga - She was very happy with this. The portion was a bit big for her, so she ended up giving some to one of my son's.

Kids: Pizza - Individual Pizza...was MUCH bigger than I expected. They LOVED it. Both of them ate a huge amount....we were glad to see them eat!

Here is the pic of the Pasta Trio:
http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1539.jpg

And the Lasanga:
http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1537.jpg

Desserts:

We chose the Dessert Sampler which our server said was allowed to be split on the plan. (1 sampler for 2 people's dessert). We figured the kids could have some, and we could have some without overdoing it. Our DS4 wanted to have the "lady bug", so we ended up ording that for him OOP.

These were ALL good...not a bad dessert to be found here! I don't think the sampler would be worth it if I was paying for it though.....the total amount of the sampler didn't add up to 2 individual desserts.

Here is the Sampler:
http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1549.jpg

and the Ladybug:
http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1548.jpg

TOTAL BILL: (for 2 adults): $77
2 TS Credits - 24 TS Credits Remaining

SNACKS - EPCOT - Near American Adventure
2 Icadoodoozie treats for the kids
TOTAL BILL: $5.00
2 Snack Credits Used - 22 Snack Credits Remaining

Cinderella's Royal Table - Dinner - MK *** 1/2 (3 1/2 Stars)

I gave this 3 1/2 stars but still recommend it to those who have kids that find the Castle Magical. Might not be the best food in all of Disney, but the magic of the castle beats that out.

Well, we had to eat in the castle...it was just a given since my boys identify that castle as BEING Disney World, not to mention it is shown on the beginning of every Pixar movie, etc. We got REALLY lucky. As we walked in, Cinderalla had stopped in before her show and we were able to get autographs and photos. My kids were in HEAVEN!

http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1595.jpg

Myself: Shrimp Cocktail/Green Lipped Mussels, The 14oz Prime Rib, Medium Rare - Good prime rib, but not the best I've ever had. It wasn't too fatty which was good, but just didn't have that "melt in my mouth" experience. GREAT for the Dining Plan, or just because you want to eat in the castle, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Wife: Caesar Salad, Fillet of Beef - 8 oz - My wife chose this because it was a smaller portion (although more expensive than the 14 oz Prime Rib :confused3 ). I figured it was going to be much better than the PR, but turns out it wasn't. She wasn't too thrilled with it. Nothing really bad, but if we were paying the
$28 for it, we may have had a conversation with the manager about it.hota

Kids: Pretzel Dogs - I asked about these, and the server said they were regular size hot dogs in the pretzel bread. We figured they would be small, so ordered 2 to pay OOP. They came with 2 hot dogs each along with accompanyments, so we ended up with lots of kids leftovers for the fridge.

Here are the shrimp and Mussels (After I ate one of the shrimp...I was hungry and forgot to pull out my camera!)

http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1601.jpg

And my Prime Rib:

TOTAL BILL (2 Adults) - $104.86

2 TS Credits - 22 TS Credits remaining

WELL, TOMORROW IT IS SCI-FI DRIVE IN AND SPOODLES....I WILL UPDATE THIS POST AFTER WE GO!

Sept 20th

Breakfast in our Hotel Room (Cereal, Fruit, Yogurt)

Sci-Fi Drive-In - MGM/Disney Studios - LUNCH *** 1/2 (3 1/2 stars)
Actually better than I expected. I was planning on paying OOP for this one, but ended up getting some of the more expensive dishes and going with the Dining Plan/DDE for kids mix.

Myself: BLT Soup, Shrimp Penne Pasta - The Pasta and sauce were good. The Shrimp were HUGE! I wouldn't compare this to a good Italian restaurant, but considering I was expecting burgers and such, this was a much better lunch than expected

Wife: Salad and Smoked Turkey Sandwich. She said it was good...but from my experience, you don't need a great chef to come up with a salad and turkey sandwich ;)

Kids: Mac and Cheese and Glow cubed drink cups

Dessert: Cheesecake for me, Hot Fudge Sundae for my wife/kids

Only complaint...cheesecake came with Cracker Jacks on top and surrounding it. I specifically told the waitress that my one son is allergic to peanuts....there are peanuts in Cracker Jacks so I could not share with him.

Other than that, the waitress was very attentive and very friendly and fun. She earned her extra tip.

Sorry, I didn't take pictures of the meals....we were just having too much fun watching the old sci-fi movies and trying to explain to our kids that these used to be "real" movies!

Here is the only photo I have:

http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1658.jpg

SNACKS - MGM - Street Of Americas
1 Icadoodoozie treat for the kids
1 Frozen Strawberry Treat
1 Mickey Mouse Ice Cream Treat
TOTAL BILL: $7.50
3 Snack Credits Used -19 Snack Credits Remaining
Ended up with another Frozen Strawberry Treat for free. My DS4 didn't want a snack. After we all got one, he decided he wanted one and walked up to the girl at the cart and asked her for one. She gave it to him and I whipped out my Card Key, but she said "No, it's on me!" Nice Pixie Dust moment!

Spoodles - Boardwalk - DINNER ***** (5 Stars)
WOW...just WOW! So far, the BEST meal we have had....in presentation, taste of food, and friendliness of wait staff and Chef (yes, I said Chef).

The Chef came out and went around talking to people. He sat down at our table and got our son to eat more of his dinner! He chatted with us for a little while. He did the same with many others as well. I was VERY impressed with this.

Our Waitress was friendly and helpful as well and she got an extra special tip because of her fantastic service.

Myself: Shrimp Appetizer, Fettuchini with add-on Scallops (they let us do the add-ons with the meal plan with no additional charge), Excellent....the Shrimp was to die for...only 4 shrimp, but they were HUGE, and the Fettuchini/Scallops were fantastic. WAY too Much food, though...had to leave about 1/4 of my plate.

Wife: Shrimp Appetizer, Seafood Stew (Paella) - She LOVED it. She said that it was by far, her favorite meal of the week so far (and favorite dining out meal for at least the past year or so).

Kids: Mickey Mouse Mac and Cheese.....they both ate a good amount and liked it.

Photo of the Shrimp Appetizer:
http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1738.jpg

Photo of the Fettuchini with HUGE scallops:

http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1740.jpg

Photo of the Mickey Mouse Mac and Cheese:
http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1743.jpg

Desserts:

We wanted the Sampler to share with the family like we did at Italy, but they said that it wasn't included in the plan :(

We both ended up with the Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee......mmmmmm . LOVED it! I ended up pairing it up with the recommended Grand Manier

http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1749.jpg

TOTAL BILL: $98.69

2 TS Credits Used: 18 TS Credits Remaining.

OOP: After a bottle of wine, some dessert drinks and the kid's meals and drinks, it was $61 after the DDE discount!

Well....Not sure what is for lunch tomorrow (Wednesday 9/21/05), but Dinner at Narcoossees with a Wishes Fireworks Cruise after (weather permitting). More to come!

UPDATE: Went to Olivia's in OKW for lunch and NArcoosee's for Dinner....couldn't add any more images in this post, so I added a new post to this thread...you can read it here:

thanks! nice reviews and your boys are cute! your dw will have to write a special weight watchers report for those of us on the plan (I have two weeks til lifetime so that week at WDW is going to be major for me not to screw up...but I am still going to eat my deserts!! :) ) We will be at the Poly, I see you have been there before, do you like the Poly?

TIA

unixadm
09-19-2005, 12:42 AM
We loved the Poly...wish they had DVC villas there! We've considered using our points to go back to the poly, but it ends up being more points than a villa, so the value just isn't there.

My wife's lost 20 lbs on WW over the past 5 months she has been on it. It is tough on her right now, but we have been doing a lot of walking so we will see how that goes. One her big things is that she has small portions, so she may end ujp get something that is fattening, but doesn't eat a lot of it. She is having trouble gauging the points for the food we are getting, but is doing her best.

Wonderful report. Thanks for the pictures, they are always a treat.

Isn't SAB the best!! We own at BCV and our boys (5,2,2) sometimes wanted to skip the parks and just swim. My 5 yr old loved the huge slide, he must have done it a 100x. :goodvibes

Great report so far! Was your wife able to order the salad with the dressing on the side? I love the chicken caesar salads in WDW and I'm on WW. If you put the dressing on the side it's much easier to calculate points.

BTW a Mickey Ice Cream bar is 9 points and a Simba Paw Print is 6 points.

Keep the reports coming! We'll be there in 2 weeks! :Pinkbounc

PS - I hope you speak to a manager at Pecos Bills about the dessert. SO many kids have peanut allergies! They should give you an extra snack credit for that one!

I agree with you about Polynesian Villas. Sadly, it doesn't look like it's going to happen. It's hard to get to the Polynesian when you have DVC points to spend, but we try to do a couple weekend days on cash when we can.

Ok....Tuesday's Reviews/photos are in....updated the Original post to include them. Enjoy

How are the crowds for the rides?? we leave in 10 days!!! :cool1:

Crowds are VERY light. I did sub to Tour Guide Mike and buy the Passporter Deluxe and created my own touring guide based off of the info I got. That definitely helped in MK. Other than the very popular rides, we have been able to walk on most rides with 10 minute or less wait. For those that were a bit longer, grabbed Fast Pass and were all set.

Thanks for your reviews and pictures. I will be arriving at WDW on Sat and can hardly wait. How was the Cinderella Slipper Dessert at CRT? I can hardly wait to hear/see about your dinner at Narcoosees. I had ressies there, but cancled them, but now I think I might try and add them back in.

Cinderella's Slipper was good....the chocolate moose in the center was heavenly....but not enough there ;) I don't think I would pay $10.00 OOP for this dessert, but recommend it for the dining plan. After a big meal it really was enough of a dessert (any larger would have been deadly!) , and the presentation is well done (as you can see).

So far I think my favorite dessert was Spoodles with the Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee....although Le Cellier's Chocolate Cake is pretty close as well.

Thanks for the fast reply. I'm trying to decide if I should go with that for dessert at CRT or just order the other cinderella slipper for tea at GF. I might have to do the CRT one just so I can say I had it.

If you don't mind - I have a quick question about Spoodles. My Dh is allergic to chicken and does not really eat too much seafood at all. Are there enough other items on the menu to keep him happy? I am trying to pick restaurants for him where he will at least have a few choices.

By the way, awesome reviews and I just LOVE looking at all the pictures.

Have a GREAT vacation!!!

we did the dining plan in June with our family (me, dh and ds#1..ds#2 was under 3) and really enjoyed it as well.

I have also been on WW for just over a year (lost 35 lbs) and while at WDW, tried to make intelligent choices for my foods. I shared when possible, only ate 1/2 if sharing wasn't a choice (like the wrap at Pecos Bill's) and tried to stay away from the really heavy, creamy sauces. Also didn't eat a lot of ice cream, although it was as hot as sin while we were there.

With all the walking, I didn't gain at all during the trip. Which I think is a great accomplishment. Hope you continue to enjoy your trip.

We are also new DVC members (taking our first trip home Nov. 06) and I'm hoping by then, they will have some way to offer the dining plan to us. My kids are not easy breakfast eaters (if only they liked a bowl of cereal!) so eating bkfst in the villa is ideal for us, but they like a good lunch and dinner (at least the older one does). So CS and TS are good for us.

Looking forward to your continued report.

Thanks so much for the great reviews! and Pics!

Im glad I stumbled upon your review with a child with PA, My DD has it along with allergies to tree nuts and im a little worried about desserts for her.

Looking at the ice cream snacks you have down for the kids looks like she will be bale to get her fill of ice cream!

If you have any other peanut related comments please share them
I would love the advise!

Those of you who have children with peanut (or other) allergies should consider getting a copy of the new "PassPorter’s Walt Disney World for Your Special Needs" (http://allearsnet.com/news/hnews.htm#78 ) I haven't read it but it sounds like it could be very useful.

I tried to add to my original post, but it said I had too many Images in a single post (imagine that!)

So, here is the continuation:

Sept 21st
We did no parks for Wednesday. Ended up stopping over at several of the DVC resorts and checking them out since we hadn't seen them yet and were trying to decide where we wanted to stay in April. (Loved OKW for the room sizes, got to see the Grand Villa In Saratoga Springs..wow!, and loved the foyer of Wilderness lodge!)

Anyway, it was lunchtime when we were at Old Key West, so we ended up eating at Olivia's

Olivia's - Lunch - OKW *** ( 3 stars)

For lunch it was really good (better than we expected when we had walked in) I gave it 3 stars because it cost the same credits as a Spoodle's Dinner, so it isn't a good value for the Dining Plan.

Myself: Sweet Potato Soup, Olivia's Roast Beef Sandwich - The Sweet Potato Soup was surprisingly excellent (my DS4 tasted it and loved it as well!)....I didn't know what to expect but really like it. The Roast Beef sandwich was good, above average but not anything memorable.

Wife: Sweet Potato Soup, Garden Veggie Wrap - As I was, she was surprised at the great taste of the soup. She said the wrap was good, but again, nothing spectacular or memorable.

Kids: DS4:Piglet's PB&J DS3:Eyeore's Grilled Cheese

Here is the soup:

Narcoosee's - Dinner - Grand Floridian **** 1/2 ( 4 1/2 stars)

I was really looking forward to this dinner....and it didn't disappoint. I didn't give it 5 stars...this is because it was 2 credits a piece and as you will see from my review, I thought that the Filets, although good, didn't beat Le Cellier's which was 1 credit.

The view was gorgeous though, and I think that is why they charge the 2 credits:
http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1776.jpg

Myself: Shrimp Cocktail Appetizer, Surf N Turf - The Shrimp were excellent..Jumbo and Tasty. LOVED the Surf N Turf. The Lobster Tail was to die for....Meaty, cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. Wish there was more of it! The Filets, although VERY good, didn't beat Le Cellier's. Basically, if we took the filet from Le Cellier (x 2) and added that to Narcoosee's Lobster Tail, it would have been the perfect Entree. Still EXCELLENT, and if I hadn't been on the meal plan, I would have rated this a 5 since I wouldn't have had so much excellent food to compare it to.

Wife: Shrimp Cocktail Appetizer, Grilled Wild Salmon - She loved the Shrimp Cocktail. It had a Mustard Dip along with the Cocktail sauce and she really loved that. Wasn't that impressed with the Salmon. She said it was VERY GOOD, but she has had better, for a much cheaper price. Considering this was 2 TS Credits, she expected better.

DS4: Chicken Noodle Soup, Kid's Filet - My son enjoyed the Filet and Soup. Definitely not worth 2 meal credits in my opinion, but we had the credits, and was glad to see my son eat something more than Mac and Cheese, etc.

DS3: Checken Tenders - He didn't seem any more impressed with these as the ones at Peco's Bills. Pay OOP for this or anything off the kids menu but the Kid's Steak (and even then if you want to save the credits). They should make this 1 TS credit for kids!

Myself - Expedition Everest Cake - EXCELLENT, not too much, not too little.

DW - Tropical Sorbet with seasonal berries - She really liked it....of course, she loves fresh fruit and isn't a sugar fiend like I am!

DS4 - Brownie Sundae - He LOVED it (what little boy wouldn't?!!)

Im glad I stumbled upon your review with a child with PA, My DD has it along with allergies to tree nuts and im a little worried about desserts for her.

If you have any other peanut related comments please share them
I would love the advise!

The main thing I do is mention his allergies to the server as soon as he/she comes to our table. Since he usually ends up with Mac and Cheese, Chicken tenders, etc, the main course hasn't been a problem. I've tried to be careful to get a dessert that I can share with him without worry. Something with Vanilla or Chocolate Ice Cream is usually a safe bet. (They had something with Rocky Road and I stayed away from it, obviously)

great reviews, cant wait to read the rest. I was especially glad to see the Spoodles one since that is one of the places I have really been looking forward to going to. Can you tell us what all else there is to do on the Boardwalk? This will be my first time going there. Thanks. QUOTE]

For Adults, there is the Atlantic Dance Club and JellyRolls. ADC is a dance club (imagine that!) and JellyRolls is a Dueling Piano Bar that is supposed to be really fun....I will find out tonight!

For children, there are arcades, some Boardwalk games for prizes (typical ones like throwing a basketball through a hoop, etc). There are Surrey Bikes for rent which my kids love, regular bikes, and the mini speed boats.

Hope that helps!

[QUOTE=megan4777]Thanks for the reviews (especially the Spoodles one since I was in charge of the family dinner and chose there!!)!!
I always mean to tell you how absolutely adorable your sons are whenever I read one of your posts!!
I hope you have a great time for the rest of your trip!!

Thanks!! Enjoy Spoodles...it is still our favorite dinner of our vacation. (and I think it will remain that way!)

NEXT UP: LUNCH SOMEWHERE IN EPCOT, and DINNER AT CORAL REEF

Sept 22nd
We went to Epcot on Thursday. We got a little late start, so we went to the Land to get Fast Passes for Soarin', took my DS4 over to the Nestle's Jr. Chef to make Cookies, and ate lunch there.

- The Land - Lunch - EPCOT ** 1/2 (2 1/2 stars)
I don't like what they did to The Land's food court. I used to love their BBQ 1/2 chicken. They have made it more "healthy", at least in appearance, most meals are in Pitas, sitting on green leafy stuff that is supposed to be healthy, etc (hey, you should know by now looking at what I have ordered, that if it is green, and healthy, it's not for me!!!! ;) ) I will say that their dessert counter had a pretty large choice of some good stuff!

I ordered the Chicken, got a side of Tuna Salad, and the Key Lime Tart ...this is what it looked like:

http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1851.jpg[img]

DW had Chicken Salad, and Fruit for Dessert. Got Mac And Cheese for the kids

TOTAL BILL: $48.60

CORAL REEF - DINNER - EPCOT ** 1/2 ( 2 1/2 stars)

The atmosphere was beautiful.....For those that haven't been there, It is built in tiers, sort of like a small dinner show venue with the Aquarium glass in the front where a stage would be. We got seated in a booth in the bottom tier near the glass. If we were at the top, I would not have been happy...the view from the top tier is definitley not worth the time/ credits/money.

The photo is a bit dark, but here is our view:
[img]http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1909.jpg

Now....I only gave it 2 1/2 stars....that is because the service was HORRIBLE. I have given extra tips for every TS all week, and for the first time, I left no extra tip (although the server added 18% into our OOP cash receipt and the meal plan has 15% added in already). If I could have, I would have left much less than the 18% or 15%. Did I mention that the service was HORRIBLE?

We had a 5:30 ADR. Showed up a few minutes early and they seated us pretty much right away. Had to rush out of there without eating all of our Dessert at 7:05 so we could get back to BoardWalk to meet the babysitter at 7:30! Over an hour and a half just for appetizers and main course! I waited through most of my dinner to get another beer. And no apologies...when we would ask, our server (Theresa) constantly blamed everyone else ("oh, the bar is slow tonight", "I don't know why your dinners aren't up yet, they should be in a few minutes", etc)

Myself: Crab Cake, Lobster Tail - The Crab Cake was ok...nothing fantastic...of course I was already starting to get in a crabby mood from the slow service. The Lobster Tail was very good. I do recommend it if you choose to go, but because of the poor service, I can't recommend this restaurant.

Wife: Salad Appetizer, and Tilapia with Crab Cake - Wife liked the food and the atmosphere, but was really upset at the lack of service and that we had to rush out of there without finishing dessert and literally run to make our 7:30 appointment.

Crab Cake Appetizer:
http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1914.jpg

Kid's Pizza - I tasted this and it was surprisingly good, and the kids loved it!

Lobster Tail:
http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1917.jpg

Tilapia:
http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1918.jpg

Desserts: DS3 got a "Make your Own Sundae" and LOVED it, though we had to leave most of it to rush out of there:
http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1921.jpg

I had the Adrift Chocolate Moose, and was able to take about 3 bites before leaving:
http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1923.jpg

and DW had the Bermuda Triangle - She said it was good, but small...although she didn't get to finish it anyway.
http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG1924.jpg

TOTAL BILL for 2 Adults: $123.18
4 TS Credits (2 Adults X 2 TS Credits Each) - 6 TS Credits Remaining

OOP: $31.41 (Kid's Meals and Beer)

Again, the atmosphere was gorgeous, the food was good, but the service was ATROCIOUS and even if it was better, this restaurant just isn't worth 2 credits per person, IMO.

Ok Folks....Final reviews!!!!

Sept 23rd
Went back to Magic Kingdom. We arrived later in the morning and hit Tomorrowland. After riding some rides, we went to Ray's Starlight Cafe

RAY'S STARLIGHT CAFE- LUNCH - MK *** 1/2 (3 1/2 stars)

After seeing it, I realized I had eaten here before, but never had their BBQ 1/2 Chicken and Ribs. Had that and it was FANTASTIC for a Counter Service. Wife had Veggie Wrap with Peppers & Beans - She said it was Very Good. DS4 had BBQ sandwich which he REALLY liked (surprisingly to us). DS3 had Chicken Nuggets which he did NOT like...the Trash can seemed to like them though ;)

My only complaint is that they took away the animatronic Aliens (Sonny Eclipse) that played music and had some live brass band playing that was VERY loud. Unfortunatly, it was pretty busy and when we arrived, there was no band so we sat at an open table right in front of the stage. Once the band came on, I couldn't even talk to our family without yelling. This is the stage now:

http://www.kpog.com/disney0905/images/CIMG2000.jpg

There still was a sign for Sonny Eclipse, but I didn't see them anywhere on stage or around the area. Maybe he is just being refurbished. I did read a post here from the end of August saying that in the middle of his set, he stopped working, so maybe he needed an overhaul. I hope they bring him back.

TOTAL BILL: $79.33
4 CS Credits Used, 13 CS Credits Left

Oh, since we had 13 CS credits left, I bought some people behind me their lunch using up 3 of those, leaving 10 CS left.

CONCOURSE STEAKHOUSE - DINNER - Contemporary *** 1/2 (3 1/2 stars)

We were all set for a 5:30pm ADR Chef Mickey's......We arrived about 45 minutes early, so we sat down and had a drink. My wife looked over at the Concourse Steakhouse and asked if we could switch. After eating all of the good food for the week, she didn't want our last TS dinner to be at a buffet. Plus, being on Weight Watchers, she diddn't want to have a buffet to temp her.

So, I walked up to Concourse and they were booked but able to give us a beeper and said they could take us as a walk in somewhere around 6pm. Our DS4 was a little dissapointed but he already had Mickey's, Pluto, Donald's and other's autographs as well as photos with them. I tried to get CM for the nexts morning, but it wasn't available, but was able to get Ohana's for Breakfast. Couldn't wait for that!.

At 5:50pm, we were seated. We had two servers that came up to our table. They seemed attentive at first, but EVERYTHING was slow. From getting drinks for the kids, to our appetizers, the fact that we asked for the kid's Mac and Cheese to come out with the appetizers, and they did not, etc. Just POOR SERVICE all around. Wasn't as bad as Coral Reef.....at least the waitresses walked by once in a while, but considering there were two of them, I would have expected some quicker service.

Myself: Shrimp Cocktail, Prime Rib - Both were Very Good, but not stunning. The Presentation of the Shrimp Cocktail was boring. Just 5 shrimp laying on a plate. After all of the other unique presentations, I expected a bit better. The Prime Rib was huge...after it arrived, I wished I had gone with the Filet since it was smaller and tasted better.

Wife: Salad Appetizer, 7oz Filet - She loved the Filet. She still said that Le Cellier was the Best Steak she had, and this did not beat it.

Kids: Split a Mac and Cheese. It was a big Mac and Cheese plate and we were glad we didn't order 2 of them.

Disappointing presentation (but good tasting) shrimp Cocktail:

Wife's Filet:

Desserts: I was tempted by the Chocolate cake which looked good, but loved the presentation of the Cheescake so I had to have it. My wife had the Creme Brulee...she didn't go wrong with that anywhere she tried it. The Kids split a Mickey Mouse Sundae.

My CheeseCake:- it was good. Very heavy though...doesn't look like much but I was stuffed. The Chocolate/white Chocolate Ears were good. I really loved the look

Sept 24th
Time to leave. We had plans to stop and see my parents on the way home (They are about an hour and a half from Disney) and had an ADR for Ohana's for a 10:30am breakfast, it would work out perfect....check out of Boardwalk, get all of our stuff loaded, stop over at ASMo to pick up our Express Check Out docs and drive over to Poly and have breakfast. We had 4 TS left, so we could use all 4 for Breakfast. Well, unfortunately, DS4 woke up and was sick. He couldn't keep any food down, not even water. (The previous day in MK, he kept putting his fingers in his mouth, and touching is mouth on things while waiting in line and I kept yelling at him and told him he would get sick from that....well...he did :( )

Well, called Disney Dining and cancelled Ohanas.....went to ASMo to pick up the Express Check Out stuff and I went to the food Court. Used 3 CS's for breakfasts with Juice and Power Aide (to help replenish the fluids in DS4) and fruit. That still left 7 CS left. I bought two people behind me breakfast leaving me 5, but everyone else behind them had the dining plan. I couldn't give away 5 free meals!!! I know if I really tried, I could have, but with my wife sitting in our truck with our two kids, one of them being sick, I couldn't spend much time in there.

I checked and still had 12 Snacks left! 4 Bananas, 4 Apples and 4 Mickey Rice Krispie treats later, I used up all my snacks.....they would be perfect for the trip home.

So, we still had 4 TS left and 5 CS left and my quick calculations put our food covered by the meal plan over $1200!!!!!!!

I will give the exact number after we get home. We ended up at the Urgent Care facility off of Rt 535 in Orlando with DS4, got some medicine and stayed at my parents Sat night to get him feeling better instead of getting home Sat night. We are now driving home (and thankfully, he is feeling MUCH better...and keeping food down!) and should be home tonight...with just enough time to unpack, get to bed and go to work tomorrow!

We will buy the meal plan on future trips if we can, although with DVC, we can't get it....I will definitely put my opinion in for the DVC to try to push them to allow us to buy into the plan. I don't see what the big deal is. Even if they have to give us a separate card instead of tying to our room key, it should be easy to do.

Well, Hope you all enjoyed my reviews and photos as much as I enjoyed posting, photographing and eating it all!!!!!

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Speaking for myself, I hope next time you wait until you get back to post, and spend all your time at WDW enjoying yourself. We can wait!

Since our boys are still young, we had them in bed early and I am usually a night owl. With the exception of the night we had a babysitter from "Kid's Night Out" and were actually out very late, I was sitting up in bed for a couple of hours either on the laptop, or with the TV on. I actually enjoyed doing it as a "Play by Play" because it was fresh in our minds and easy to put our thoughts down for the reviews. If I waited until I got home, many of the details would be harder to remember, and i it would take an enormous amount of time to put it all together verses a 1/2 hour each night.

I just wanted to say thanks again for your reviews, detail & pictures. They were awesome. Did you write a trip report too?
No trip report yet. I will write something up, just have to find the time this week. I did document every ride we went on (I had a detailed day by day touring plan of each park, and checked off things as we hit them, and made notes!)

Your poor DS. That happened to us ~ one of my twins (2yrs old) got very ill day 9 of a 12 day trip. He had a terrible virus and high fever. I couldn't leave his sight or he cried hysterically. I had to have a doctor see him twice. My Dh still cringes when he thinks of those days. That was in May, we're going back in December so hopefully this trip will be extra magical. It seems everyone I know that goes to Disney has at least one "sick" trip.

Thanks for sharing your awesome reviews and the pictures were terrific.

Well, we got home last night, got the kids to bed, and our DS3 woke up sick. I ended up getting a call from work at the same time and worked to 4am. Every hour DS3 was up sick. I got to bed at 4am. Got woken up by DS4 this time with him getting sick again...all over the hallway rug! I had to go to work today so I tried to get more sleep while DW cleaned up the rug.

I ended up getting up and being sick myself! :(

Oh well....I'm working from home, the kids are here and at least we had a great vacation before this. It could have been SO bad if this had happened while we were in the middle of vacation. Especially with the free dining plan....if we had to caqlcnel our food because of illness, it would have been a mess! So, even though I feel horrible today, I see the bright side. We ended up spending a night with my parents wihich we didn't plan on and that was enjoyable and having a great vacation. Let's just open this is over soon!

Oh no - you have an evil virus in your midst! I hope everyone gets better soon.

Thank you so much for your great dining reviews. I enjoyed them very much. They were a great escape from worrying about Hurricane Rita. We are paying for the dining plan in December, so it is nice to know you think it's a good deal.

OK...FINAL NUMBERS ARE IN:

The Free Food we ate came to $1184.48

We gave away 4 CS which added up to $52.60

TOTAL= $1237.80 worth of food

And we had 4 TS left and 5 CS left that were not used

My estimate is that if my son hadn't gotten sick on the last day, and we used the final 4 TS meals, we would have been over $1300.

Well worth it!

Tina

This was the free plan that Disney offered....book a room at a Disney resort by August 20th, and check in between August 21st and October 4th and buy any park ticket for each person in your group and they gave the dining plan for FREE! Only caviat is that you had to pay rack rates for the room, no discounts.

We were already planning on booking using the AP discount, so we gave up the discount and got the free food. We had to buy a single day/single park ticket for everyone (total of $220), but they are unused and can be traded towards the renewal of our AP next year.

This plan is usually $35/per day/per adult and $10/per day/per child....so the plan would have cost us $90 per day x 7 or $630 additional to our package had they not offered it for free.

Disneygrl36
09-28-2005, 07:01 PM
That's a nice big total for just food :earseek: & looking at what you stated the dining plan would have cost if you had paid for it, it looks like it's a good value. Hmmmm, will they ever give it to us DVC members do ya think :confused3, cause I'm thinking that looks like a good deal.

When we were there, we took the tour of Saratoga Springs and I asked about getting the Dining plan when using DVC points. The tour guide stated that the question has been asked many times and invited me to the members meeting that was happening that day to ask about it further...he said that the more people that show interest in it, the better the chances of it happening. We couldn't attend since we already had other plans for the time. I will be contacting them soon about this and at least make my voice be heard about it.

Considering that a family staying at a value resort for 3 nights, paying $231 for the room, and buying a few park tickets can get it, why can't those of use of are investing over $100,000 on them get it?? (+$100,000 when you take into account the dues over the next 48 years...see my post HERE (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=851966&highlight=Real+Cost) for the cost breakdowns)

Hi unixadm!! :wave2: We met you when you were in line at Chef Mickeys, you were cancelling your ADR. Sorry to hear you did not like your meal at Concourse. We ate there a few days before you did, and our service was excellent, we even tipped extra because it was so good.

Hi...it was fun meeting another DIS'er at WDW. Yeah, I've heard so many good stories about Councourse, my guess is that we were just an exception....all tables were booked, we were walk-in's, and maybe it was just an off night for our servers.

Loved your food reviews!!! We are going Jan 21-28 and they were very helpful.

But.....did you say that you got the Disney Dining plan for FREE and if so, how?
thanks..... :earsgirl:

Thank you for putting so much time and effort into these reviews. Most of what you said, I had expected to hear, the great meal at Le Cellier, Spoodles etc.. But its great to get confirmation that the plan works like I thought it would, and that the staff now seem to get it. I had heard that earlier on, the staff weren't too sure.... Thanks again!!! :hourglass

Unfortunately, the FREE dining plan was a limited time offer. In the summer, Disney decided that they would offer the dining plan free for those staying from August 21st through October 4th if they stayed on site paying rack rate and purchased any park ticket. Basically, it was to get people to come to their resorts during the slowest season which is also hurricane season.

No more free plan, and they raised the prices slightly from what it was earlier, but still worth it in my opinion. They are now offering the plan to DVC members (yeah!), and we will be using the plan in April when we go back.

unixadm, just read all you reviews, WOW you did anawesome job. I'm going to WDW at Christmas had ressie at Port Orleans Riverside. With the dinning plan. Then I found someone selling VWL points so bought them. I understand you can get the DP with VWL. I haven't cancelled my POR yet, waiting to I get conformation for VWL. I finally figured out what CS, TS, stand for but ?is OOP you got me there :confused3

See you December 2007 :dance3:

Queen2...thanks.

OOP=Out of Pocket....basically paying for a meal cash (or charging to your room) verses using a meal plan credit.

As far as VWL, yes, you can get the meal plan if you go under a DVC member's points....you would need to contact member services to do that. I recently rented some points to someone and they got the meal plan without an issue. We did the meal plan again in April when staying at BWV. It was great!

You mentioned that the Coral Reef was 2 credits per person?
I just printed out the 2007 Dining Plan and it doesn't state that it's 2 credits each.:confused3

Maybe in 2005 (when this TR is from) it was 2 credits.
