People in my street have begun to put their outdoor decorations up this weekend. I think I will have to put my decorations up next weekend. I have my SIL's hen weekend the weekend after and then the weekend after that is our family Christmas dinner (as 6 out of 12 of us will be out of the country for Christmas) so the house needs to be ready for that. I've never put my decorations up in November before! But then again I've never taken my tree down before Christmas day before either which is what I will end up doing as we leave for WDW on the 21st. I don't feel Christmassy though now. Maybe I will next weekend when the stuff goes up.

My DD's went to see the lights being switched on in Nuneaton yesterday, they had a great time as there was a bit of a fair and fireworks. They said it was very busy, but I watched the fireworks from the comfort of my warm house :)

Good news on our xmas 'do'

The nibbles arranged at a bar in Leeds have cost us £10pp but head office have announced they are giving every member of staff attending a bank organised 'do' will be getting £30!!! thats a £20 profit :teeth: certainly enough to keep me in drinks :banana:

I love Christmas, the decorations, the presents, the food, but I am having a really, really hard time getting in the mood this year. It has always been our tradition to put up the tree the day after Thanksgiving, haven't gotten that done. Might go tomorrow. We did put up a few lights outside and a few knickknacks inside. I went to White Barn Candle and got one of those Christmas Tree smelling candles hoping to induce the holiday spirit, nothing...
Haven't bought the first present. Well, actually that isn't true, bought two presents for my nephew, but then remembered his birthday was in November, so those came in handy!

It was more of a get together for all the staff that fall under the same district as my own so it was nice to see a few people I have worked with in the past.

I've just got back from my Christmas meal with DH, DD's and my parents, we went to the local Brewers Fayre, the table was decorated with streamers, crackers, a camera and we had a free bottle of wine. We do a Xmas Raffle at our work every year.
The lady who organises all our suppliers, keeps all the gifts we get over the year and then they all get laid out on a table in the tea room.
Then everyone's names get written down and put in a basket.
We all pick a name out and whoever it is gets to choose something from the table. :cheer2:

I got pulled out about half way through (there's only 16 of us) and so I chose a nice bottle of white wine, which is sitting on my desk right now.
I swear I can hear it talking to me!

'Twas the Night before Christmas'


Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"
