Of course there is so much to comment on; so I will start with the one of the lowest figures; Those people who would not evacuate without their pets. While this may seem trivial to some, for many people, particularly the elderly, their pets are their whole lives. I think that in the future, provisions need to be made to evacuate pets with their owners. The guilt of leaving a loyal and trusting pet can adversely affect the survivor's will to resume their lives. I am happy that so many animals have been rescued.

I completely agree with you there!

Thanks for sharing this, Bet.
Did anyone else see where they're running out of shelter space/resources for the abandoned pets? It made me so sad. People are putting dog food and water out until they can come back and get the pets. :sad1: The Humane Society of the US is asking people to ask the President and other officials to respond by visiting https://community.hsus.org/ct/CdzF-v71fR5v/

Everyone should read all the poll questions (over 70) and responses. Despite the fact that the poll was conducted at three different shelters, 39% of the respondents thought that NOT ONE GROUP, not the Coast Guard nor the City of NO nor the Red Cross nor the Salvation Army nor any other entity Federal or Local or State or private, had done anything to help them. (Question #61, I believe.) It breaks down the respondents by various demographics and is very enlightening.
I had thought there were more elderly people, but only 6% were 65 or older.

Very interresting indeed. Now we can see how the victims really feel, straight from their mouths. Here is just a sampling:
56% said they could have found a way to leave before the storm.
42% said they just waited too long.
9% didn't want to leave their pet behind.
87% feel hopeful towards the future.
57% have enough clothes with them.
64% were renting, not living in a house they owned.
81% said this experience has strengthened their religious faith.

I think I only saw part of the poll, too. I didn't read some of the things mentioned in the OP's post.

Sorry I am not able to post the link. You need to register for the WP and the complete poll results are with the article which referenced the results. The article was on the first page yesterday, but I would think the complete poll would be available today, too.

The most interesting to me was the 56% that said they could've found a way to leave. That means that those people chose to stay. I can understand those that were unable to leave-the sick the elderly those with pets- but still 56% of them could've left and didn't. Imagine if they had done so, surely the problems that have been happening down there would have been greatly minimized.
