We're looking into a possible change in our plans...we might try to be in WDW for Jan 1 to whenever...does anyone know when the Christmas decorations are taken down around the parks and resorts and if there is still a Christmas feel for the first few days of January? Any thoughts on arriving at that time of year?
thanks, Dave

Morning Dave,

Last year we were there for the marathon on January 9th and the decorations were all still up. They did begin taking them down that night though. At Wilderness lodge the tree was there when we went to bed and gone when we got up the next morning. They work fast!!

Hi Canadave!! We are going to POR from Dec 31st to Jan 7th, and I've heard that the X-Mas decorations are hop until January 2th or 3. But let's hope it will be longer!

I know the resort decorations were still up on Jan 6th, but I'm pretty sure that there were all gone from the theme parks. I think the parks are done around Jan 2nd or 3rd. We had a fabulous trip this past Jan. It was actually hot ... we were there 8 days and I didn't put on jeans until the morning we were leaving for the airport!

Hi Dave- when we went over New years in 2000 most of the decorations were down around the 3rd.

Man -we are just going to miss you guys by a few weeks. :sad2:

Canadave: We will be at POP Dec 31-Jan 8. From what I have read the crowds die down by around Jan 3 or so. BUT with school not going back to Jan 9 this year in a lot of parts of the US and Canada, I bet that this will effect crowd attendance (thats why we will be there then). And don't forget: the pools are all heated to 84 F so that is a real plus.

riu girl...I posted the question about when school is back after Christmas on the Theme Park Strategy board and someone said there was a similar post 5 months ago. Word is that the majority of kids are going back to school January 2.
We have to check the availability (with CAA discount) of rooms at the POP first before we decide for sure whether we'll change or not...I'll keep everyone posted :teeth:

Well that would be great (if most kids go back Jan 2). Maybe check availability soon. I was able to book POP Jan 1 -6 at CAA rate (70.25 US/night including tax), Dec 31 at rack rack . I called back a few days ago to add one more night (Jan 7th) and was able to book at CAA rate also. BUT when I asked about moderate hotels for that night (I thought I would treat the kids to a moderate our last night) there was NO CAA availability (perhaps because fo the marathon crowd??). I don't know. I also asked about some deluxes for Jan 7 but not much was left (and no standard deluxe rooms were left).

Well I wish I could go back but we will have just returned on Dec. 17th and I will be completely out of vacation time :sad1:

Sounds like you guys have the potential for a Dis meet. So far you have Manon, Rui Girl and now possibly Canadave.

We've made our decision...we are staying with our old reservations and going in February....however, we are talking about possibly going next year just after Christmas

riu girl...you'll have to give us the low-down on your trip at our next meet...maybe we can get some tips on planning our future trip and be a little more prepared
